My SO and I went to visit this location after work today (our first time going in several months) and it was an experience like no other! We had an excellent service! The lady at the counter was so inviting and was amazing at making additional suggestions for us. The food came out timely and was beyond tasty. When paying I asked "who gets the tip?" (I don't ever leave a tip at eateries like this simply for the person taking my order lol) and this is when I learned that she was the manager of the location. I proceeded to with my tip even though she could receive it knowing it would be split amongst her amazing staff. The facility was clean, bathrooms were tidy and the atmosphere was quiet and quaint. I tried the Newk's Q pizza and my SO got my usual for the 1st time the Newk's Q sandwich. They both tasted delicious. The pizza is always placed on an unheated pickup shelf, and by the time I arrive, it's already cold. Today, I ordered both the pizza and a Caesar salad. The salad was sitting on the top shelf, which is not temperature controlled, and it was noticeably warm when I picked it up. The pizza, on the lower shelf, was cold as usual. After experiencing this multiple times, I decided to leave a review. Shortly after posting, I received a text message--presumably from the owner--that came across as dismissive and rude. I want to be clear that I'm not looking for anything free. My concern is simply about food safety and quality. A pickup station without temperature control raises valid concerns, especially when items like salads contain dairy products that shouldn't sit at room temperature. As a regular customer who orders takeout often and dines in about once a month, this experience was disappointing. The mac & cheese that I received was not hot at all, and it definitely was not baked as the picture on their app implies. Additionally, the app does not indicate that the pizza is thin-crust, yet it is served that way. And it's too expensive for what you get, as the app doesn't specify that the pizzas are personal size, which is very misleading when you receive the item for the first time if you've had it before and don't know their menu when ordering online. We've been to this restaurant twice in one month where the employees pretended not to see us and never acknowledged us standing up front waiting to order. Both times they were in the back of the restaurant on their phones or mopping. Once was an hour before closing but the second time was at 12:30 for lunch. It seems there's no manager on duty so you just have hourly-paid employees who'd rather not have to take an order. Really sad. Very friendly staff but the food was blah. Got the chicken salad wrap and a side of fruit. Fruit was good but the chicken salad was VERY bland. And it was also pretty pricy. It is more than enough food, but $20 for a wrap, a small bowl of fruit and an iced tea is a bit much at lunch. ***UPDATE*** I recently got a black and blue salad from here and I noticed the meat looked a little grey rather than the more appetizing way it usually looks. The server let me know that they no longer grill their meat and cook it in an oven instead. It's disappointing, hopefully it still taste good, because it doesn't look good anymore. *I've eaten here several times before, it's a nice casual low key place. My miL loves this place after I brought her for the first time. She really enjoys the thin crust pizzas. This visit I noticed they added a new Spinach and feta soup, it's nice not too thin or thick. It's a little on the salty side. But it tasted great with my sandwich. The bathrooms are nice, usually very clean. I like the fact they have an extra sink outside the restrooms so you can just wash your hands and not have to go into the bathroom. I love their fixin's table! They have roasted garlic, capers, peppers, pickles, and lot of other stuff. It's really nice to add things to the salads. My favorite one is the black & blue salad. Came here for the first time (we are new to town) today. Ordered two kids meals and two adult entrees. First issue - they charged full menu price ($2.49) each for kids drinks. Second issue - The food was ok, but not particularly flavorful and portion sizes were small. Third issue - inside wasn't well taken care of (tables need refinishing and they clearly aren't cleaned well/often as the things that hold your order number stick to the table). I could have lived with all of that... but as we were walking out my wife noticed that "Monday and Tuesday kids eat free (with purchase of an adult entree)" - when I asked one of the employees about it she asked the manager then came and told me "there's nothing we can do about it" - I understand that the transaction was complete but they could have offered a gift card, a future discount, or even just an apology! We left hungry and disappointed. When a new restaurant comes to your neighborhood, particularly one you've never heard of, you hope for something unique. Whether it's a twist on the food, atmosphere, or service, you hope for something that will bring you back. Sadly, the only thing unique here is the name. The food was pretty good, though the portions were quite small for the price. Think snack machine portions at Panera prices. A $9 "meal" consists of half a sandwich and a cup of soup - not a Subway half, but more like half of that. It doesn't include the drink, either. Oh, and no military discount. It's not that it's too expensive, it's just that if you want expensive soup and sandwich, you can go to Panera just down the road. If you want a unique sandwich, Momma Goldberg's is right across the street. If you want standard portions at a reasonable price, Chappy's is a block away (and kids eat free!). Where's the hook? It's laughable that the staff actually encourages patrons to "try the round table." This will pique your interest until you realize it's just standard condiments for your sandwich - parmesan cheese, peppers, croutons, and yes, salt and pepper (since there is none at the table). If that doesn't get you to come back, then maybe the free plates and napkins will! Seriously, though, this isn't anything that most sandwich shops won't put on your food for you. Enough of the negative... The staff was very friendly and the service was fast. They have a good location, albeit awkward to access. They do have take-out, so those in East Montgomery have another stop-and-go dining option. Oh, and the pizza did look pretty good, so I'll try that next time. As long as I'm not very hungry. I love the idea of Newk's. Fresh salads, soups sandwiches and pizza served in a casual atmosphere with friendly staff. The staff is always pleasant, but the food is hit or miss. I have been coming to Newk's for years and sometimes I get a perfect salad and other days they drown my lettuce in dressing. I guess it just depends who's in the kitchen that day. I will still come here because I love the crab and corn chowder (wish it was on the menu every day) the staff are so nice and the location is convenient. read more

First visit to Newk's for a Friday family dinner. We ordered a Royal Sandwich with Pasta Salad, a Club Sandwich with potato chips and a Pepperoni Pizza. For joining the online Roundtable Club I received an e-mail for a free slice of $3.45 cake. The sandwiches were fresh and hot on soft rolls. The pizza was marginal using what we guessed was frozen dough. By the time we sat down after retrieving our self-serve (with included refills) drinks, our food was served. The Red Velvet cake had vanilla icing, not a cream cheese icing which defines a Red Velvet. It was tasty for what it was. They do have others which I may try on a subsequent trip. This was my first visit to this restaurant. I placed a curbside order with Newk's at 3:40pm they said it would be ready at 3:58 pm it is now 4:20pm and I still don't have my food!!! I then called them back after 4 other people walk in and out in a manner of a few minutes. The guy then asked me if my order was under another name i said no they finally bought my food out at 4:25 pm along with 2 free dessert . The young lady that bought my food out was very nice and apologetic. I gave them 3 stars I would have given them 5 stars if I received my food in a timely manner. Ps. Good, casual place for sit down sandwiches and small pizzas. I like the sandwich rolls -- nice and crusty. The pizzas are thin crust and can be a little on the soggy side. You order up front at the registers when you walk in. There's a nice large menu, and they typically have a couple people taking orders, so the wait is short if there even is one. They give you a number, and bring out your food when it's ready. You get your own drink, so feel free to get as much as you care for (as long as you're willing to get up and get it yourself). Good for carry-out, too, although I have gotten irritated that they forgot about me when I was waiting when my food was ready and sitting right behind them. read more

This was our first time here. (My husband and I) I was not impressed in fact, I don't think we will be back. As I said when we walked in we had never been here there was no employee in sight we were not sure if we should seat ourselves, or where to order. After 5 min I saw several as in more than 2 sitting in a back table and I went up and told them we have never been here where do we order and one girl responded oh up there she's just busy right now. I turned around and walked back to the front ready to leave but another girl followed me to the front. She never spoke to us we looked at the menu and I asked are you ready for us to order and she said go ahead. I ordered the Greek salad with chicken and my husband ordered the Royal. I asked about drink sizes, and she said we only have one size do you want a drink? No, I thought; we don't need a drink, but I replied "yes give us both drinks". We then asked what we do do we seat ourselves and she handed us the number and said yeah sit where you want and make sure you put this number up for them to see. The food arrive rather quickly. And despite the service I enjoyed the food. The salad is very large. Anyway I feel like the service we received as first time customers was not good.
