We toured the Newland barn as a wedding venue rental. The Newland barn is owned by the city of Huntington Beach and offers hourly options with an array of prices depending on date and type of event. While it is a good option for a smaller wedding, I don't see it being a good fit for a larger wedding. They offer a barn with a smaller capacity (50-60 people I believe) and up to 200 people on the lawn. For a wedding ceremony, there's a gazebo. Parking is limited at the actual Newland barn site. However, parking is offered at the shopping center as an alternative. read more

He walked us through the grounds with such warmth and care, and it was clear how much he enjoys meeting people and helping them feel at home. He's polite, kind, and truly a blessing to work with. The grounds themselves are beautiful--well-kept, spacious, and full of charm. All of our guests had nothing but positive things to say. The wedding under the stars, surrounded by the soft glow of the Huntington Beach lights, created a magical atmosphere we'll never forget. We feel so grateful to have rented this place. I hosted an event at the Newland barn on 11/23/25. What was supposed to be a wonderful experience turned out to be a disappointment. We were hosting a baby shower for our first grandchild. The event was not as planned as the aesthetics was ruined due to a very large tent left by a prior event. According to the contract the facility is supposed to be left clean and no overnight items left as it is a rental and event as happening on a daily basis. Upon arrival we realized the large tent was left and we contacted the onsite manager and although he was kind, he informed us it was out of his control and the tent was too large to take down as it required multiple people. We lost money on our rental items that we were unable to use because we rented umbrellas and putting umbrellas under a tent was going to look very odd and ugly. I contacted the city of HB and they pretty much told me not my out problem. They told me to contact the vendor for the prior event to ask if they would be willing to cover a portion of some sort of reimbursement and mind you, I have not contract with those vendors. I only asked them to reimburse me the cost of the umbrellas and stands that I incurred and they refused to do so. No one called prior to the event to notify me or give me a heads up to avoid having that additional costs. The facility told me they refunded me my deposit of $500.00. The deposit is already refundable as we left the facility clean as required. They should have forfeited the prior event's deposit as the facility was not left unoccupied as stated in their contract. The rental coordinator was aware earlier in the week that the large tent was on site and no one failed to notify me. It was a horrible experience and I understand it could have been a mistake, however the fact that they did not provide any sort of remedy was the worse customer experience that I have experienced. This was supposed to be a wonderful memory and now it has left a very horrible experience instead. Shame on the facilities staff for such a terrible and unprofessional service. This is a really cool place to get married. Last night we attended a marriage ceremony at the Newland Barn in Huntington Beach. This place doesn't really have a restaurant or other amenities other than just a nice outdoor wedding area which you can book with tables and chairs, then order catered food. We had a blast. I was part of a faith conference today with After the Rain Christian Counseling and the place was tucked in behind Mother's Market. Quaint and pretty grounds that we prettied up with some rustic boho style for the tablescapes and backdrop. The seamless indoor/outdoor flow proved to be necessary as nature decided to gust some hella high winds tonight and knocked most everything over. So that was a downer. But there's ample parking and a beautiful event setting for 150 people or less, although they did say max 200. Discounts for non profits. read more

We had the most amazing wedding ceremony and reception here. We had 200 people, it was in October and the weather was perfect. Affordable with all the right vendors. We went with Harbor Rental for the Chairs and Tables, Taco Surf for Food, Nick at Socal DJ for the tunes, Nothing Bundt Cakes for the sweets. Me and my husband got married here. We were at MAX # of guest, and that includes your staff. We had chairs set up for the ceremony in front of gazebo with the tables also set up to the Side in front of the water tower. We had the same chairs moved over for the reception to the tables. Dance floor and DJ set up: the DJ was set up INSIDE per the rules inside the middle doors, facing outward. We used the side doors for exiting and entering. (See pictures) We used the concrete area in front of the barn for dancing. INSIDE THE BARN we set up 2 buffet lines, a dessert table and a photo booth with a little room to spare. CLEANING: hire someone to clean BEFORE & AFTER (Required) because you can't guarantee the bride from the night before hired a good cleaning person! Catering and rentals: we used OCSA culinary program for our catering, which was fantastic and they coordinated the rentals via Signature party rentals! Located behind the Newland House Museum is the hidden gem I discovered for my wedding: the Newland Barn. After years of looking out the windows while eating at Mother's next door, vaguely aware of the weddings going on, I hadn't really thought about getting married here until I started looking for venues and came across this one online. I knew it was meant to be when I realized it was next to Mother's and found out that one of the few dates they had available was the date we had chosen! I was very happy with selecting the Newland Barn for my wedding location. Everyone I dealt with was nice and helpful, from the people working at the city office (where I filled out the paperwork to book my reservation) to the custodian who met us at the location. Their website is really good at going over the rules and requirements pretty thoroughly, so it's a great resource if you are considering this location. This location was perfect for the wedding I had in mind, but it may not be right for everyone. The way I see it, there are two basic wedding venue types: ones at a hotel or similar venue, where they do pretty much everything for you, but may leave you with pretty limited options; or a location such as this one, where you have to do pretty much everything yourself, but you have more options and can be more creative. We had both our wedding and reception here. There is gazebo available for rent and a rose garden which is great for pictures. Our wedding was in front of the gazebo, our appetizers, dinner and drinks were on the lawn, with the cake, dancing, etc. inside and on the patio. Some of the reasons I chose this location: *You can have alcohol (for an additional fee; beer, wine & champagne, but no hard liquor. I made homemade sangria also!) *We could have both the wedding and reception in the same location (easy for guests and for us too!) *Natural, pretty environment (if you ignore the shopping center next door) *We could (had to) bring our own (veg*n) food, so no boring hotel menus to deal with! Some of the reasons you may not want to choose this location: *You (or your wedding planner) have to plan everything and you have to hire people to do everything for you (we had the chairs/tables delivered, catered food, and hired people to do serving, etc.) *Larger events need to be held outdoors so you have to deal with the weather/temperature ~ ~ I had to make my 100th review a place that held some meaning to me; what better place than my wedding location? ~ ~ read more

Great venue and very affordable. Daughter got married here and we had a BLAST. Venue is beautiful. The office on the 5th floor, where you rent the facility, they are okay to deal with... Rick is a REALLY cool guy that does the Wednesday night tours. Garrett, who runs the barn on weekends was excellent to deal with. We had our event on a Saturday and he was there and he provided GREAT customer service on our hectic day. He also called and spoke with us leading up to our event which was very helpful. I have been to several different functions here at The Newland Barn. It's on the same lot as The Newland House and was the actual barn to the original farm house. Now, it serves as a local rented hall for indoor or outdoor weddings. The hall has a full kitchen and enough space for banquets and a dance floor. A big open glass door allows for use of the concrete patio and large grass area leading to the house. There are full time renters/caretakers living upstairs and a large parking lot. I actually have viewed the fireworks here when I did not want to fight the 4th of July crowds at the beach. It's on a pimple of a hill in an otherwise flat city. read more

Just had my daughter's grad party for 200 here and it was wonderful! Rick was a real pleasure to work with, more than accommodating. He took great care of us. Not only is the venue beautiful, it is also very affordable. We cooked all of our own food and rented tables and chairs from Harbor Party Rentals who are very familiar with the venue. Our DJ set up right outside of the barn doors and we used the concrete as our dance floor. The amplified music was not an issue when he was facing toward the grass where the tables were. We set up at 2pm and it was a bit gusty. It didn't really die down until about 5:30 or so. I'd advise putting out centerpieces last to avoid the wind blowing them over. I'd also advise shorter centerpieces...we lost a couple of our tall ones when the wind knocked them over. Also, we had a party crasher who wore an orange vest posing as a worker. He carried a flashlight. Said someone reported a leak. We caught him looking in purses. Beware of some of the folks that hang around the parking lot, this probably wasn't the first time they've tried this. Other than that, I'd highly recommend this venue. Need to pay in advance for lighting, than when it's not needed because you change to a tent with lights it's very difficult to get the refund , not much but just the principal. The oven didn't work so our chef charged more for the inconvenience, the managers solution of transporting the food back and forth to heat it up was not acceptable , was promised a refund of a few hours , still no refund yet . Bottom line is this place is really a 3 star location not the 4.5 in the pictures, it's just ok . read more

Came here for a friend's wedding and like Gene D I also didn't know this place existed. Situated behind the Mother's Market on Beach Blvd, it is a simple venue with a "barn", a gazebo, and an outside grassy area. This isn't anything fancy. It's somewhat of a "do-it-yourself" wedding venue. You bring your own caterers in, you set up your own tables and chairs, you do everything yourself -- and then at the end of the night, you take everything down as well. If you are looking for a venue and don't mind doing most of the work yourself, it is a really decent place to hold your event. I wouldn't suggest during the summer when it gets too hot because you're predominantly outside though. read more

WIND, WIND & WIND. The Newland Barn is on a hill and exposed to the wind. And if you look at the weather in Huntington Beach, It's almost always windy in the evening. Needless to say. We had a problem with things flying around. Ladies Dresses. Ladies Hairdos Table Clothes Paper Plates That combined with all the other rules make this a very bad venue for any event. :( read more

I photographed a wedding here in 2014 and I like to try and review locations I have photographed. The Newland Barn is special to me because I photographed my very first solo wedding here many years ago. They were awesome back then and they are awesome now. Well planned, attentive staff, great food (BBQ YEA!) and really photogenic grounds. It's tucked in a parking lot and once you are on the grounds it's like you are out in the country. really comfortable in the summer with the beach breeze (even though you are a distance away) and the building is positioned perfectly for the light. If you're planning an event here, specifically a wedding, you need two crucial things: PATIENCE and a great wedding coordinator. My (then) fiancee and I had reserved our wedding date when the process for Saturday weddings was still first come first serve. After reading tips on various wedding boards and a failed attempt at booking - we knew what we had to do. Show up at 5:30 a.m. with folding chairs, blankets, our iPads and plenty of patience. I had already pre-filled out my application and we had our credit card ready. It literally took us 10 minutes to book once we were escorted up to the parks and rec department. The ladies helping us out couldn't have been friendlier and more encouraging, kudos to the HB Parks & Rec department! I've read that it is now a lottery process. Also, you get a discounted hourly rate if you are a Huntington Beach resident. Rental for the gazebo is through the Historical Society of Huntington Beach - that process was relatively easy. It took me a while to find a phone number for them to confirm my rental of the gazebo/garden space but the city will have the correct contact number for you. As for the venue itself, the general public can visit the venue on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Which I did a few times before we booked the venue and then numerous times during planning. You'll meet Ron at the open house - he is awesome. Get on his good side - and if you aren't on his good side, shame on you because he's great. Your reservation also includes an hour for the wedding rehearsal which will be on Thursday. You are at the grace of mother nature when it comes to the weather on your wedding day and the condition of the grass. You'll want to have tenting, umbrellas and space heaters on standby at any given time of the year if you're hosting your event on the lawn. For everything else (rental items like chairs, tables, flowers, catering, serving staff, lighting, etc) - it's ALL ON YOU. I coordinated all of the vendors (Harbor Party Rentals for our rentals, Top Catering for food, Hula Girls Shave Ice, Behind the DJ Booth, etc.) but picked up an on-the-day coordinator (Mele Amore) to help make everything move smoothly during the event. Our wedding day was truly a blessed and happy day. We couldn't have asked for a better venue. We rented the space from noon until midnight; in the morning and early afternoon we had the perfect overcast weather (maybe even chilly) for pictures; then we had sunny, warm weather during the ceremony (perfect weather for shaved ice) and in the evening it was perfect balmy weather for the reception. It's A LOT of hard work (it's seriously no joke) and if you are patient and surround yourself with a great team, it's so worth it. read more

One of the best days of my life was spent here. We had our wedding here on 09/24 and we were more than happy with the outcome! The venue is ran through the city so talk about affordability! This venue was the perfect size for our wedding (approx 100 guests). There is plenty of parking and there are bathrooms as well. The kitchen was used for our "raspados" during cocktail hour and our catering set up inside the barn to serve our guests... My favorite feature of this adorable venue is the string lights from the water tower into the barn. Makes such a lovely atmosphere at night! Newland Barn - 09/24 - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Huntington Beach, California

We rented out the Newland Barn for our June wedding. The space is absolutely gorgeous, and is the perfect setting for a summer afternoon/evening event. Since it is owned by the city it is very affordable, but that said you do need to note that everything about the space is DIY. We used this to our advantage, as we were able to design unique decor to fit the space, as well as save $ using our own preferred vendors for rentals, catering, as well as supplying our own alcohol. Definitely saved a pretty penny while adding our own personal touches- that we would not have necessarily been able to do if we decided to go with a 'package'-type deal at a more traditional venue. Perfect for the bride on a budge! Helpful tips: - We had to reserve our date a year in advance, and the only reason we were able to swing a summer date is because it was 'Friday the 13th'. If you're interested in the venue, I highly recommend researching the booking process (I think it has changed since we booked, but I know it entailed going to the Parks & Rec Dept at a specific day/time with your checkbook in hand and basically praying you were the first one in line). - You can only go inside the space without a reservation for 1 specific hour per week - Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30pm. Ron is always there, I believe he is the caretaker for the space. He is extremely helpful (which is no easy feat considering how many frazzled brides he must see on a weekly basis!), so be sure to visit early and often when planning your event. - Renting out the gazebo is a separate $100 fee, so be sure you make this separate reservation if you plan on using it. We almost forgot about this, but thankfully were able to mail the check in time. - Reserving the venue for your Rehearsal is also a separate reservation, they allow you one hour complimentary with your event reservation. We did not originally know that so I thought it was worth mentioning; all you have to do is call and speak with someone at P&R to reserve your hour, and they will email you your permit. - There is one guy that strings the hanging picnic lights up (from the water tower to the Barn) the day prior to your event, you just pay him in cash after he sets up. Also an optional separate charge, but a complete 100% MUST if you want lovely dusk pictures :) - The venue supplies a small quantity of multipurpose-type tables and chairs with your reservation. We used 4 of the tables for welcome, desserts, gifts, etc., and I don't think we ended up using any of the chairs. But utilizing some of the tables saved us a little bit of money on the Rentals side of things. - That said, the inside of the Barn is not exactly 'elegant' per se, so we opted to get a drapery wall to cover the interior walls, supplied by our Rentals company. There was more than enough room for our dessert table and photobooth, and it offered a nice indoor space for people to congregate. Bonus that it has a small kitchen inside too, so we were able to heat up appetizers before cocktail hour and store perishables in the refrigerator during the event. - Plenty of parking in the adjacent lot, and you can even have overflow in the Mother's parking lot. Nice to not have to worry about that! - BYOB (beer & wine) and guests can serve themselves :D !!! - City requires you to hire security guards :( But we used Gold Shield security, and Steve there was very friendly to us. I am so pleased with the way that our wedding turned out, and the Newland Barn lent a unique, rustic, and picturesque setting to our big day. Highly recommend! read more
