The counselors were understanding and knowledgeable. My assignments were based on the 12 steps and I completed the first three steps during the four week stay. The groups were designed to educate the clients on the disease of chemical dependency. Families visited and participated in their loved ones recovery and were invited to keep coming back afterwards at no additional cost. The aftercare program at Serenity Knolls is a great way to stay connected after leaving the center. I've attended the alumni meetings at both the San Francisco and Marin locations. The facility is located in the beautiful hills of West Marin, and a perfect setting for a new beginning. Between treatment sessions I participated in a vast array of recreational activities: hiking, swimming, volleyball, basketball, and ping pong tournaments. I made a host of clean and sober friends whom I still stay in contact. I would recommend Serenity Knolls to anyone inflicted with the disease of addiction.

I do pro bono career counseling. My observations are based on multiple full days spent on site…read moremeeting with clients and staff. This review reflects what I personally observed and experienced during that time. Clients arrive and spend one to several days in Detox. Up to six people share one bathroom, and each client has a roommate. Nursing staff brings in food and checks on Detox clients around the clock. Then, clients move to cabins or two shared houses, and have to be driven to and from the main site at the start and end of the day with backpacks and no access to their rooms for about 15 hours per day. Clients spend from 9 am until about 9:30 pm in sessions, which consist of various types of therapy and AA-based meetings. There are occasional off-site activities including horse therapy and hikes. LISTENING TO SHARES is common. I witnessed various levels of staff preparedness. Taking attendance and dealing with paper appointment reminders can take significant time. There are three meals per day, and clients are served in two shifts. I heard clients share that the food is good if high in calories. Breakfast includes a daily scramble with various ingredients and there are sometimes short-order items; clients can also have instant oatmeal, smoothies, yogurt, fresh fruit, toast, coffee, fountain drinks, tea. Lunch and dinner are served hot and usually contain meat; salad is always present. Fare is generally American-grilled salmon, sandwiches, ribs, grilled vegetables, nachos, chicken breasts, pork cuts, etc. Special diets are accommodated, often with tofu. I witnessed many closures and significant waits with the office and nursing. Clients are required to do chores daily, such as working as dishwashers in the kitchen with professional equipment for 45-90 minutes. Clients get one nicotine run per week, rare haircuts, access to laundry every 10-14 days, and unannounced urine tests and K-9 visits. In my time there, I perceived the client base to be predominantly white. I heard multiple mentions of Burning Man, "spirituality," Jerry Garcia (whose death in or around here spawns many rumors), Buddhist centers in Berkeley, temples in the woods, henna, travels to Asia, dharma recovery as Buddhist rather than Hindu. I witnessed many racially-implicated incidents, as well as white-male shares numerically dominating many sessions. Sometimes there are readings from the LGBT AA book; flags went up for Pride Month. I witnessed some clients being allowed to curse at others publicly. There are views of a valley, and deer walk through daily. There are significant hills and stairs. Many of the 12 acres are off-limits. There is a small gym. In summer, you can use the pool, but it can be closed by staff due to client behaviors. At times, there are not enough seats for clients. After five days with no device access, clients can use their phones and/or laptops from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm during free time. There are rules around vaping, smoking, device use, sleeping during sessions, but I witnessed a wide range of compliance, staff response, and staff breaking rules. Families can bring clients ONE bag ONE time per 30 days with various supplies, which are checked. Clients can order FIVE Amazon items per 30 days. Family or friends can visit every Saturday, and are expected to participate in some programming. I often felt very upset in this space.

And the best drug counselor I've ever had. I've been looking for therapy like this, and the answers I got at Olympia House, for 20 years. They are the most skilled, caring, and professional team of people I've ever worked with in mental health. I'm dual diagnosis, so I've been seeing professionals for my mental health for 25 years. Some of their curriculum is custom, developed in house by the psychologists there--you won't find tools like these anywhere else. I have a custom designed "addictive system" I use every day to track where I am in my recovery and mental health. I use this not only to prevent relapses, but correct myself if I run off course, and this works not just for substance relapses but also things like depression, anxiety, and anger. Their website doesn't reflect this, but they take Kaiser Permanente insurance now. That's the only reason I was able to come here. I know reviews are inflated on the Internet, but please trust me, I swear with every fiber of my being and every ounce of integrity I have, this is likely the best rehab in California. If you have trauma, and most people do, or some form of PTSD, this is the place you should go. They also focus on finding meaning and purpose in life--and they will definitely help you with that. They also allow you to come back to the rehab twice a year for 2-3 days for free! They call it a "tune up". No one else I know of does this. There's also free group therapy for alumni (a process group led by one of the therapists there) once a week via Zoom. I would wake up many times in OH in disbelief that this place exists at all, and that I got to be a resident here. They've made an enormous difference in the outcome of my life.

Cell phone use is allowed and encouraged, so you never feel too disconnected from home and can effectively take care of business (it isn't realistic to be disappearing from the world for 30+ days). Tons of fantastic healthy snack options, along with the unprecedented option to have a small personal stash of your favorite snacks (again, helping me keep that connection with home). Amazing counselors like mine, Eddie and Joey, get you through the day-to-day. Every person there, from the Program Director to our "sober fun" escorts, short of the cook, is a certified counselor in recovery (at minimum, if not an LMFT); and is a fabulous sounding board and source of strength for your daily struggles in early recovery. And the cook is fabulous (man, did I eat well there)!!! You can tell everyone there, right down to said cook, really cares about the clients while they are there and beyond. AVR's program includes a wide breadth of education and therapy including: one-on-one sessions with an LMFT, family/couples therapy with an LMFT, tons of counseling staff onsite at any given time, public outings in the real world with various recovery meeting formats and "sober fun" events, CBT (how to handle those nasty thoughts), DBT (how to handle those rough emotions), traditional Process group therapy (get your gears grinding and open your eyes to reality and life), relapse prevention, anger management, self-esteem, top-rated-recovery-literature study groups, transition planning and assistance, and even alternative/eastern medicine therapy like Qui Gong Tai Chi, yoga, acupuncture, and eco-therapy. There is even regular visits from a certified personal trainer to make the most of the fantastic gym/exercise equipment! The environment is bar-none. The grounds are huge and beautiful for taking a walk or exercising. A wonderful garden to work in if you like. The house is spacious with multiple TVs for downtime. Along with board games, a pool table, a basketball hoop, a pool, and a hot tub. Lots of extra space for personal time and personal calls. And no more than 6 clients at any one time. Don't get me wrong. Recovery is hard. Lots of emotions, realizations, and work to be done. But the environment is incredibly comfortable and fosters personal growth. I spent 60 days there, and they flew by. Between the staff and the environment, AVR makes all that hard work as painless as possible. If you want to not only sober up, but get the tools to stay sober and enjoy the rest of your life with your family, this is the place to go for residential treatment.

I didn't care for my time at New Bridge. The place is old and cold. Drafty windows and only a few…read morebathrooms. I did get sober but had a lot of medical issues in which the nurses on duty have no medical training on. The nurses only know how to take blood pressure and temperatures and give out meds that's it. One nurse Miquel who isn't a very sympathetic person doesn't care about the people there and it shows. The food is horrible they tend to cook alot of fish and Asian vegetables. Alot of people bring their own food to eat. If your spending good money to go to this place you would think they would have better food. A more rounded menu. This place isn't good for handicap people because it's not ADA . Lots of stairs. There was one nurse who was awesome there, his name was Feral not sure on the spelling but thats how his name sounds. He was the night nurse and he really cared and loved to talked. I won't miss this place and this wasn't my choice to go to. Kaiser made me go to this place. Just do your homework before jumping into any rehab.

First off I was sexually assaulted multiple times at the direction of the staff. Multiple times while I was living at Aisha house my medication that I kept in my drawers were switched. At night I would take them and I was assaulted multiple times. On one occasion I remember being passed out, more like paralyzed. I remember my face being held into a pillow while being r@ped. I can still remember the pain till this day. After this, the head counselor at the time Richard was making fun of me in group laughing indirectly saying that it was one of the roommates at Aisha house at the time Ricky. Ricky was one of the Federal Clients. In the Bridge One Program people who are facing serious Federal time undergo "Behavioral Modifications". The experience I had made me realize the extent to which the Federal Government holds control and the 'keys to freedom' for these people. I can only image what else goes on behind closed doors. This program can only be described as government experimentation and exploitation and all the staff are complicit. Bridge One follows a cult like format in which everyone refers to each other as "family" like Manson or something And they have to be completely obedient and submissive to all the staffs desires. In addition to this I had been fighting the VA for my pension and disability at this time. Whenever I went to the VA after these assaults, they would just write me off, Strange. None the less, I would not suggest going here at all. Especially if it's on the governments dime in someway. Given the wrong medicines, double-dose administered on record, male staff not announcing that they were barging into female quarters, individuals from off the streets just able to walk into unsecured buildings, where residents sleep, nothing was done about these problems while I was there as a veteran, their veteran liason was overwhelmed and would not address me, acting like if they did not acknowledge me and the constant trauma incurred by their failure to execute ANY appropriate protocol, even for suicide watch, then it must not have happened. When interviewed by State investigator, I wanted a veteran counsel in the room with me, he shut down the meeting and claimed "it just must be too soon and you are too messed up to talk". Wowie-WOWWOW. I urge ANYONE CONSIDERING NSRS TO FIND A SAFER FACILITY FOR INPATIENT CARE, ANYWHERE ELSE BUT THERE.

Who is he to determine that another doctor's prescriptions should be destroyed...without telling me!?! They destroyed 10 full bottles of unopened medication without my consent. I would have had family pickup the medication had I known it was going to be destroyed. Shame on them.

She retraumatized me by making me write out my trauma and reread it every day to myself and her while I was currently in an unsafe environment. I can say that this did not alleviate the trauma symptoms and rereading it and reliving it every day only made my symptoms worse which she gaslit me and reassured me that it would subside. The trauma has not subsided and I got fired from my job for having severe symptoms which I experienced alone loosing the ability to afford therapy. This is absolute negligence and comes from a dangerously uninformed non- trauma-informed lens. This approach is not empirically supported and she touts. This experience added to my trauma and I spent an insane amount of money only to be gaslit, retraumatized, and revictimized.

Golden gate recovery integrates their clients into the community instantly doing step down system which really benefited my brother. He had been to about three rehabs with no success. I spoke with a guy Quinn and another Aiden who work here. Great experience and my brother has now been sober just over a year. Extremely grateful. It's funny because I went to a meeting with my brother when he got his one year chip and it's like this program has their own community/ fellowship. All the guys knew my brother and said hello and most of them previous clients. It was like these "ggr boys" were everywhere in the meeting. Just super cool idea for treatment
