The customer service at Newport Pack & Crate was almost non-existent. I requested the cost of shipping after giving 2 emails full of every bit of information, waiting for 4 days, regarding an antique art piece being shipped to Colorado, but in the end was dropped like a hot potato and was never answered. I told them that if it was a reasonable cost, that I would loyally use them for all my shipping needs, but never got an answer after several attempts. I've been using this company for the last 3 years for various crating/shipping and have always been happy with their services. Today, I had the most rude, unprofessional customer service experience to date. I called to ask how busy they were, as I was interested in dropping off materials for crating. In a rude, condescending tone, the response was, "uhh well ya, we're swamped" in which I responded, "uhm ok thanks" and hung up. None of that was terrible but this is where it got really bad. I couldnt help but feel uncomfortable with how the conversation played out with a company ive utilized for years. I called back to try to move forward with using their services regardless if it came across rude, I mean hey everyone has bad days and everyone perceives things differently. When i called back (I felt the need to explain because we had just spoke) that I had cut the conversation short because I felt his tone was rude/offensive, that it frankly made me feel stupid as a customer, but also felt that we got off on the wrong foot. He laughed, proceeded to tell me that i need to grow some thicker skin, im part of the problem, that hes sick and tired of everyone being so offended in the world, he doesnt need this, he doesnt understand why I was calling back, and to go find someone else to pack my things. This review is for my 2nd use of Newport Pack and Crate. In both cases they picked up art, crated and shipped to my new location in Nebraska. I am amazed at how well they can crate items. In this case I had 17 items. 1 went in one crate due to it's odd size and the remaining pieces were all placed into one large crate. All were snug in an extremely well constructed wooden crate and they all arrived with no issues. Both Chris and Doug were of great help. I highly recommend the company. All items I had insured as very valuable. No issues with such. Some of the negative comments post seems like people prone to whining. My experiences have been the complete opposite. I also found their prices more than reasonable. I use to do a lot of art crating back in the mid 90's. I could not build a crate back then for the prices they charge today. A real bargin. read more

From beginning to end, they were prompt, professional, and kept me informed about when my items were picked up from a third party and when they were being shipped to TWO different addresses. They didn't think they'd be able to help me, but they referred me to someone who they thought might (and ultimately did, excellently). I have been working with Doug and Chris at Newport Pack and Crate for many years. They are the "go to" if you are shipping art. I have used them for deliveries and "pick ups" to galleries and collectors across the US. I was surprised to read the reviews as they have very good customer service. If a person has never worked with them before or dropped off art I can understand their confusion/frustration. They are usually in back crating up art - often sculptures larger than me. Much of their business is repeat, galleries etc and they are always super busy. read more

They built a crate that was essentially indestructible and stayed late on the Thursday before Thanksgiving long weekend to make sure the carrier picked them up so that they would move over the weekend. I could not think of a worst experience dealing with any company than Newport Pack & Crate. I retired from my company after ten years and the company had items packed up and shipped to me. I received a note back in July 2017 stating there were three pictures left to ship but I had to pay $ 387 to ship them. I've had a car shipped from California to my home for $ 450, so the entire situation sounded a little odd and more so fraudulent. The note went on to say..."if you do not pay this invoice in 30 days we will dispose of the items". So, needless to say I was not going to pay $ 387 to have three pictures which hung on my office wall sent to me so as the letter stated in the July time frame, I let them dispose of them. Then today Jan 24, 7 months later I get an email asking me to pay the invoice again. I am assuming they forgot about the original letter stating they were going to destroy the items. All along, I never asked for any items to be boxed up, shipped or stored. I explained this to Chris Moore in my email - the two quotes are from him. These were two of Chris Moore's quotes: "Company has advise that it is your personal property and you will be responsible. You have acknowledged ownership via email. Apparently you are not a responsible person, but we were warned of that when picking up your trash." " As for your items. We will add the storage fees on of $80.00 per month which will bump this invoice over the amount need to sell the debt to our preferred collections agent. In short we are turning this over to collections. Get ready for phone calls and bad credit, which you are probably already familiar with." Chris then follows up with a threatening phone call to me. He in another email threatened to contact 7 of my relatives including my deceased father and contact everyone on LinkedIn I'm connected with. Not what I would call a good business owner. I have since contacted my attorney, the company I formerly worked for to let them know of Chris Moore's actions and forwarded over his quotes. Not a sunny day in California for Chris Moore - stay away from this company and from Chris Moore. read more

BEWARE! Do not use for valuable items! They will leave your crate at the delivery location without a signature, and insist that you verbally accepted the item for delivery even when you did not! They also (and this is the actual language they used) told me to go f*** myself when I called to address the issue. Incredibly unprofessional people. Before I say anything else I do want to give credit where credit is due and say my item appeared to be reasonably well packed in the crate since it arrived undamaged. But, because they delivered it without notice and didn't provide the uncrating service I had requested, I had to leave an antique on my front porch in an urban area overnight. Not cool. Since I had contacted them about, and received my quote for, an antique to be picked up, crated, transported to another state, and then uncrated, I was quite surprised by this. It turned out they had only charged me for basic crating and transport. So, I didn't get overcharged, but I didn't get the service I had requested. Mistakes happen. I would have been willing to let it go if they had just arranged to provide the service I had gotten my original quote for and charged me the difference. But instead they decided to yell at me for an extended period and insist I was trying to get something for free (huh?) I also later found out they had only insured it for loss, not loss and damage as I had asked about. It turned out ok in this case, but if you are shipping something valuable I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. Very misleading business practices. Unless you want to be misled, yelled at, told to go f*** yourself, and told you're "everything that's wrong with this country" I'd take your business somewhere else. ***LOL...after reading the company's response, I need to reiterate how dishonest this place is. I'm not sure who the "elderly parents" are who could have "apologized for my behavior", since my parents live overseas and I shipped this item from my house in California to my house in Texas. Also, as I stated in my review, I left two stars because I am an honest person and the item did arrive in one piece, in spite of their terrible service. read more

Awful, just awful. I ship art (antique) and I too am terribly disappointed with their customer service. Antique frame had gesso losses. I paid for insurance. They self insure and thus decide what they will cover. I offered to split the cost of repairs with them, $250 and despite purchasing insurance they refused. Before and after pictures clearly reflected the damage. I will never do business with them again. read more

I needed to ship a large and very valuable piece of artwork across the country. I obtained 3 quotes in the Irvine/Santa Ana area. Newport Pack & Crate got the business. I met with Chris at their shop and he was professional , knowledgeable and efficient. They built an strong crate, and took care of the shipping quickly and accurately. Painting traveled 3000 miles and arrived quickly and safely. Because of the value of the item, they chose an appropriate service where the box would be stored in an appropriate warehouse at both ends, and was delivered with what I'd call "white glove" service (signature required). I would say this was a perfect experience for a nerve wracking situation. An added bonus: Newport P&C was very substantially less than the other 2 quotes for both building and shipping the crate.
