I stopped here for smoothies on a beach day. I got an acai smoothie and a strawberry and mango smoothie. They use apple juice as the base liquid and I'm not a fan of that as you always taste it and it messes with the flavor. And it was a little bit thinner than my preference. And they only have boba straws which are way too big. Otherwise they are decent smoothies. As a liquor store though, they have everything imaginable and a little Beer Cave in the back for cooled drinks. Staff were friendly and drinks were out pretty quickly. Ambiance wise, it's a liquor store so I wouldn't really hang out there. read more

Can't believe I've lived here and haven't gone sooner! Walk by this place all the time. They have amazing acai bowls that are super big and super cheap. Any other place will charge you $12 for a small acai bowl but you get 32oz bowl with all of the toppings you really need added by default (topped with banana, blueberries, strawberry, granola, coconut, honey) all for $8. Can't wait to try their other items, everything on the menu is like under $10 read more

I love this little spot or more specifically the "Cafe Bella" coffee shop on the corner of New Port Ave. and Cable Street. The ladies who work here are very hip and friendly and have not problem striking up a conversation. I ordered a iced coffee for $3 and a lox on a whole wheat bagel. If I remember correctly I think it was around $7. The lox on wheat was great. It was a little non traditional in that it did not come with onions and capers, but it did come with fresh spinach, the smoked salmon, and cream cheese. The smoked salmon was delicious. I just wish they would but just a little bit more of it. The wheat bagel had a very good toast and was moist inside. I liked it very much, The iced coffee was very good too. I liked it smoothness and full bodied flavor. It had no bitterness what so ever. They offer some tables and chairs outside and you can park in the Newport Quick Stop's parking lot if you are visiting the shop. Great little place. read more

Stopped here for a quick and lite breakfast. Ordered a smoothie and an acai bowl. The items ordered were good. However, the female staff that took my order did not have on gloves while preparing my acai bowl, and went back and forth from preparing food to taking orders without hand sanitizer, or anything. Lastly, when I saw her grab my straw with her bare hands I could have literally threw up. It was too early in the morning, so I had no energy to even bring it to her attention. But pure disgusting. I would skip out on ordering food here. They are not implementing COVID-19 precautions. Very unsafe. read more

This is like the closet into the Narnia world that is acai bowls. An unassuming convenience shop is what you think it is. But open those eyes a bit bigger and you'll discover that OB's best kept secret is this joint. Fish tacos for about $1.50 EACH!! and one of my top 3 acai bowls in San Diego is right here. The fish tacos weren't the best in the city, but they really got me drooling as the first meal of my day. They have salsa verde and rojo, and both were delicios. They are very generous with the toppings, and do not skimp on the fish. Their acai bowls are TO DIE FOR. Yes, I love me some OB Smoothies acai, but Cafe Bella does acai bowls with better quality, coconut flakes, and nut-free granola! THAT is heaven to my ears. Their acai consistency is the best and it isn't overly sweet. It's legit, and so is their staff. Let's talk about service too. Came here to catch up with a few friends, and we enjoyed such sweet service from the young girl working at the register. She is the friendliest and nicest girl ever, and totally cracked jokes with us even in an early/cold morning on a Sunday. Props to you girl, you deserve all the stars of this review! There isn't seating for your meal, but they have an outdoors bar top area for you finish your purchases. And most people just walk to the beach anyways since the proximity is literally a block away. Every morning since they opened, I have been driving through to grab my tuxedo mocha with caramel sauce. The girls are so amazing, they have it ready before I'm even pulling up to pay. Friendly, fast, and super sweet. Kassie has even taught everyone how I like my drink so I don't even have to try to think in the morning. This helps- I am NOT functional before I'm caffeinated. Today I stopped by and wanted a salted caramel mocha. Caroline suggested we add that to my tuxedo- brilliant! It is delicious. Thanks ladies for making mornings less painful for me! P.S. stopped in to the Quik Stop to grab a sandwich and service there is also awesome. I ended up with a garlic mushroom burger that was bigger than my head. So yummy. finally made it back here after being urged by its #1 fan, glenn g. first of all, why doesnt OB have a frozen yogurt place open at night on the main drag? i wanted a guilt-ish free desert with lots of fruit and that was on my radar. but luckily not having success made the light bulb come on about newport quik stop and their acai bowls. never had one before so nothing to compare to! but very impressed. an acai sorbet, basically, with loads of fresh fruit (straberries, blueberries, banana), honey and coconut shavings. it was delicious. $6.75 flat for a 32 oz, only options. I *think* I read then used to have a smaller size and did away with it. such a shame because 32 oz is massive and way too much for a person. i ended up sharing with 2 other people who were with me! the cafe portion of this place didnt exist with i reviewed before...it appears to be a welcome addition with lots of great grill options, smoothies, and their famous acai bowl. worthy of a try! read more

I got called out on my so-called "racist" take on this place so I did a little navel-gazing and decided I would reflect more on my love of the $5 Acai Bowl than I would any kind of perception of ethnic differences. The grill is always going here and for hungry beach-goers, the Quik Market is the spot to fill up before a day at the beach. Plenty of other convenience-store essentials and a pretty good cup of coffee too. I like that there is a small amount of outdoor seating and have now re-evaluated the Quik Stop to 4 YELP STARS since I have been shamed into it by my a Yelp critic who claimed I lacked "self-awareness." Just keep churning out the wonderful Acai Bowls and we are good! read more

I always saw this liquor store busy with people eating things. I finally decided to find out what the F the hype was all about .... ahhhh so I hear they make great tacos, good acai bowls and amazing burritos . If there is anything I know a thing or two about it is burritos and acai bowls. The acai bowl was very good and a good price Point. But honestly what takes it home is the damn breakfast burrito . I don't say this lightly when I say it was literally the best breakfast burrito I have EVER had.. and ... my family owns fantastic Mexican food restaurants. I got the veggie breakfast burrito. I miss Cafe Bella being in the parking lot nearby.. it was a really convenient spot. This place has the absolute best Acai Bowls in OB. Good price and much easier bowls to eat out of. A place nearby is also known for acai bowls but they give them to you in tall containers where you end up finishing all the toppings first and then eating the acai. At Newport Quik Stop you are able to mix your toppings better in the bowls they give. Other than the acai bowls, there is a lot of food options. I've had a few off the menu and they weren't terrible but most of the food has that unhealthy, kind of greasy feeling. But obviously, you shouldn't expect gourmet from a liquor store. read more

I was in OB for the Farmer's Market on Wednesday (08-28-2013) and boy was it hot out. I had some time to kill before the Farmer's kicked off and I needed a place to sit down, enjoy some H2O and people watch so of course I stopped at the Newport Quik Stop Market. The Newport Quik Stop Market has all of basic needs. You can food shop here; you can pick up ice cold beverages, wine, hard alcohol, cold beer, play the lottery and even order food yes order food. The Newport Quik Stop Market has a fully service deli in the back of the store and you can order anything from cold sandwiches to hot sandwiches to soup. I picked up a bottle of 'Solar rain' water (review pending). It was nice to see this business supports local businesses like 'Solar rain' and does not try and break the bank when it comes time to charge the consumer. After picking up some food or your basic water needs you can step out the front doors of this establishment and find yourself in an enclosed patio area. The patio area is for customers only. The patio has fans to keep you cool. The best part of the patio area for me is the shoulder high bench seating that faces out towards Newport Ave. As you sit and enjoy your food or beverage you can 'people watch' which is always a lot of fun on Newport Ave and even better on Farmer's Market days. I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. The staff that works here was top notch and super friendly. The place was super clean and you know me it always has to smell clean. If a place does not look & smell clean you have problems. If you are visiting the beach and reading this know you can get all of your beach needs here including purchasing body boards for your children. Please also know the locals and surfers depend on you to clean up and make sure all of the items you brought to the beach you take home with you. If you are feeling extra special pick up some of the items others left behind. If you are traveling to this location by car you can park in front and park for 'free' for 2 hours. I haven't tried the food here. This place used to be a hookah lounge too, which was nice since it was the closest hookah place near me. But due to licensing, they can't do hookah anymore. I bought one of their old hookahs for only $50. I got fries here for 99 cents. They were delicious, greasy, fat fries and they fried them right up before my eyes. Super nice every time I go in! They don't wait around and talk to random people if you are waiting to pay. If I'm with my daughter they always say hello and are so kind to her! This is a review of their cooked food only, based on about 15 visits the past three years: It is pretty good overall. Prices are quite low, and get crazy low with their daily specials. The outdoor seating is prime people watching. Some favorites: GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH, STEAK SANDWICH, FISH TACO, and everything with PORK AL PASTOR (taco, burrito, sandwich), . The counter clerks and the Mexican guys doing the cooking are warm and friendly. They smile, try to be as helpful as possible, apologize if anything goes a little wrong. We come here at least once a week for the Al Pastor burrito. It is a great price, the burrito is HUGE, and it taste better than any other burrito I've ever had. The cashier, Fadi, is hands down the most polite person in the customer service industry. He remembers our order, name, and always has a conversation with us (big plus)! I'd be lying if I said we didn't come for him, too! The place offers more than just burritos, too! The açaí bowls and smoothies are delicious and my boyfriend loves the steak here! They're open late and they have cheap delivery! I always call my order in and it's ready within ten minutes! Parking isn't always the easiest, but hey it's OB. Definitely coming back (as we do multiple times a week) for burritos and Fadi! read more

During that time, I watched multiple people walk in, place orders after I had already checked in, and receive their food before me. The crazy part? It wasn't even busy. There was no line out the door, no rush, no obvious reason for such a ridiculous delay. After waiting long enough, I finally went up to an older gentleman working there (I'm assuming the owner) and politely explained that I had been waiting a very long time and was confused why people ordering after me were getting their food first. Instead of apologizing or even acknowledging the mistake, he was rude, dismissive, and acted like I was inconveniencing him for asking about an order that should have been ready ages ago. Then, after another 10 minutes, my bowls were finally ready. In total, I waited about 35 minutes after checking in for pickup. To top it all off, the older gentleman practically shoved the bowls at me without so much as a "sorry for the wait." Look, delays happen. Mistakes happen. What bothered me was the complete lack of communication, accountability, and basic customer service. If you're running behind, just be honest about it. Don't tell someone 10 minutes when it's really going to be over half an hour. The açaí is good, but not nearly good enough to make up for being treated like an annoyance. There are plenty of other places in San Diego serving great bowls without the attitude.

To the business owner: I have a handicap placard that was clearly visible in my windshield. But I'm happy that you showed other customers who are as a business owner and why they should not frequent your business. As you can see from my picture the croissant was not edible. Newport Quik Stop is by far one of the best convenient stores in OB! The Quik Stop serves hot food, acai bowls, smoothies, coffee, beer, wine, spirits, groceries and so much more. It is literally your one stop shop down on Newport Ave. Frank and his staff are always so friendly and inviting. He takes the time to get to know you and really cares about his customers. Because Newport Quik is one of my favorite OB spots I convinced my boss to cater them for our staff meetings. Frank and his team go above and beyond to provide our staff with a wide variety of delicious and affordable food options. This week Frank catered our staff with a build your own taco bar. The food was fresh and so flavorful that the staff devoured it all! Their wide variety menu options are all amazing. My absolute favorite thing is their Pitaya bowls! I guarantee you their bowls are the best you will ever have--never watery and always topped with lots of fresh fruit. You MUST try this place!! read more

So my "quik stop" for some ice cream turned ugly once I got home. I picked up the ice cream from the freezer that seemed to be blasting out cold air thinking I was going to go home and be in for a nice friday night snack. I drove home (about 2 min) and opened up the ice cream and to my suprise saw that it was very melted and very soft. Prior to picking out the ice creams I had felt that it was a bit soft but I didn't think it was going to be basically melted and gross by the time I got home! Usually when I pick up ice cream its as solid as rock. Its bad for them too since they have a ton of ice cream just sitting there! Oh well, I doubt I will make my way back to this place anymore get your ice cream freezer straight guys! read more

A little hidden gem in OB! They have the best acai bowls and for the best price. It's a great spot for a quick bite to eat and also nice to sit at the curbside bar top and watch the town go by. To match the name, different shades of green paint were applied liberally to the exterior and made it stand out from its neighbors. Parking was available curbside, or you could use a pay lot to the south of the building next to Starbucks. The inside had about half a dozen tables for seating. Two menu screens hung behind the service counter. Sandwiches, salads, acai bowls, smoothies, and some breakfast fare were offered. I chose the Turkey Avocado Crunch from the list of four sandwiches. The ingredients were sliced turkey, avocado, provolone, coleslaw, and tomato on sourdough bread. The order came with a choice of sweet potato fries, regular fries (my pick), or a side salad. The sandwich was sliced diagonally and placed in a takeout container with the french fries. The coleslaw provided a crunchy texture, hence the description in the item name. The fries were of the steak cut variety with light salt sprinkled on top. They were still warm from the fryer which made them more enjoyable. As we approach the summer season, there will certainly be sufficient foot traffic near this busy corner. I hope Green Fork can take advantage of the volume and succeed in the long term.
