Margarita flight
Krissy W.

The dining room is festive and colorful. Only the first serving of chips and salsa are free - refills are at a charge. The chips and salsa were the best part of the meal. The waiter's demeanor was flat and monotone. The menu has an impressive vegan selection. The waiter didn't offer any additional information about the selections (the vegan entrees are a la cart and it's only 1 to the plate. ) The food was ok - not spicy nor flavorful. The margarita flight was high on syrup and low on tequila. Overall - come for the vibes, not the food nor drinks. *EDIT Another waitress brought a refill of chips and salsa for free!

Vegan Carne Asada Fries

I came here with my family for brunch on Sunday. The restaurant was spacious and beautifully decorated. We sat at a table near the back, which gave us a nice sense of privacy. The service was friendly, and the staff checked on us often. The chips and salsa were really good and salsa flavorful. My dad and husband both ordered the Trio Enchiladas and enjoyed them. The rice and beans on the side were also tasty. As the only vegan in the group, I ordered the carne asada fries. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The fries were soggy and not crispy at all. The dish felt dry and could have used some crema or beans for moisture and flavor. I wanted to love it, but it just didn't hit the spot.

Chicken Enchilada and Carne Asada Taco

Sat down not expecting too much but I was quickly greeted by one of the servers asking if I wanted chips. He then quickly brought out chips and salsa. When it came to my main meal I landed on the Chicken Enchilada with salsa verde and the carne asada taco which really blew me away. That would be my choice if I went again. The place was well decorated with very good service. I would rate the overall experience a 8 out of 10.

Chips and Salsa (complimentary)

This restaurant is bigger than you might think! Once inside, there's a lot of tables and booths. We were promptly seated and greeted and provided chips and salsa. As you can walk in and order it sit down, it took a good while to get our order in. I almost thought they forgot about us - but as soon as I made eye contact with a team member - we flagged her down. The food is really good! We did a La carte on grilled fish tacos, a chicken enchilada with green sauce and a pineapple tamale. The a La Carte items are big! You don't even need rice and beans because I was stuffed! The grilled fish in the taco was a great portion size and it was piled with cabbage, veggies etc. The chicken enchilada was really good! The green sauce - yum! Big enchilada! The pineapple tamale I wanted to try because I hadn't seen it before. It was good - the sweetness makes it like a dessert tamale. I think I would prefer a meat one next time. All in all - solid food, big portions!

Bean Tostada (Vegan) - add cheese, side of beans and rice

Fantastic vegan Mexican food! Huge portions, quick service and insanely large menu. Great area very walkable; huge inside seating area and great for large groups or a quick bite before a concert. Amazing prices - tons of food and great servings for the cost!

Patio dining

Fantastic food, excellent service and a beautiful (dog-friendly!) patio. Definitely recommend!

Hugo's was my first date after baby #3. All I wanted was Mexican food and I am so glad we chose Hugo's. The food was exceptional, with top-quality meats that were perfectly prepared. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The margaritas were soooo smooth, perfectly sweet, and incredibly refreshing...and they have the cutest vibe both indoor and outdoor, we ate on the patio, it was so serene also a great family vibe and family owned restaurant with great service. I loved everything from the vibe, the food, the drinks etc we will be back.

Stumbled in out of the heatwave and smoldering sidewalk to find refuge in a cool dark yet cheerfully decorated restaurant. Everything was fresh and delicious. Also on the light side which was perfect for summer dining. Chips and salsa plus guacamole were on-point! Loved the Jamaica- so refreshing! I had chili rellenos and it was fabulous. They offer a large menu of vegan items as well. Great place!

Carne Asada Torta (so yummy)
Nancy I.

I have found my new beach meal - their Carne Asada Torta is a great option when you aren't feeling like a burrito on the sand. The meat was flavorful and tender. Paired with the pineapple agua fresca, it was the perfect summer lunch. I should also mention that they are thoughtful and have developed a vegan burria taco and offer a steamed veggie plate for our vegan friends. The beans are blended smooth and made without lard but are still packed with all the flavor. The giant tostada looked tempting with the tortilla fried in the shape of a bowl and filled to the brim. They have both inside and sidewalk and patio seating options. If you opt to sit there, they will bring your agua fresca in a cute glass cup that resembles a bee hive. It family run and the mother daughter duo were both very nice and attentive.

I'm in my 40s, so it's appreciated as I get old. It was a Sunday and they had just sat two large parties, so they said it would be a 45min wait. Luckily we got 4 seats at the bar. Our bartender was super friendly and attentive, even though she was busy. There's a decent beer list and full bar, so everyone was happy. My go-to is the woco moco. I remember it being larger and needing to split it with a friend, which wasn't the case this time. Order your egg sunny side and fried rice. My brother got the chilicilas, half green, half red with carnitas. He loved it. My step dad is traditional and got the standard breakfast. The hash browns are the patties, like at Trader Joe's. He cleaned his plate. I use to always order wings. Not sure if they are still on the menu, but if you like wings, order them. Salt and pepper style.

She didn't make us feel rushed despite the growing line behind us (we were truly trying to hurry, though, because of it). If you like sashimi, get their sashimi appetizer! We haven't been able to find a good place for sashimi since we moved to Southern California 5 years ago. Don't get me wrong, we've gotten good sashimi, but not cut thick & with good quality that is worth the price like this place. The price wasn't even as high as many of the other sashimi places we've tried! They give you only 2 fish choices on the plate, however. They have listed about 5 or 6 different kinds, but it depends on what is available. We had salmon & tuna. Salmon is my favorite, but their tuna was fantastic! First time I can say I may have liked it better than the salmon!! Their other dishes we had were also yummy. My daughter loves scallops & they were cooked to perfection. I don't usually like scallops because most places cook them till they're rubbery. Not this place! My husband had swordfish & I had the sea bass. Both were also delicious, but I think they may have mixed up which plate went to which person. Good thing, as we were trying each others' food, my daughter noted the slight texture difference between the two (I hadn't had a chance to taste them yet). Interestingly, swordfish usually has a vastly different texture than bass, but here, they cook it so well, there wasn't a huge amount of difference! That says something since swordfish is usually very "meaty." If my daughter hadn't noticed, I wouldn't have complained even though I was looking forward to the bass. I like flakier fish. However, the bass wasn't as flaky as I anticipated, but both were so tender, the mix-up wasn't a deal breaker. I don't know how they season the rice, but YUM! Even though I'm Asian, I'm not one who usually eats the rice. It's usually just a filler for me, & since I don't eat much, I'd rather eat the "other stuff" & usually leave most of the rice. Not here! I almost couldn't get enough of it, lol! So good!! At the end, we needed boxes. We had to ask two different waitresses since the first one we asked never came with them. It's an "order at the register then find a table" type of place, so there wasnt any "service" to speak of. Be prepared to stand in line - this place is popular for a reason! Parking is a challenge, but worth it. We definitely will be back!

Two vegan tacos somehow came out to $17+ tax even though they're advertised around $4, and the "2 corn quesadillas" listed for about $6 turned into one of the most absurd conversations I've ever had at a restaurant. The employee tried claiming that ONE quesadilla counts as "two" because it has "one tortilla on top and one on bottom." That's not two quesadillas- that's literally how a quesadilla is made. Then he tried charging me $27 total for tiny corn tortilla items that were advertised completely differently online. When I questioned the pricing and pointed out the website clearly says two, I was basically told it wasn't his problem because he doesn't make the prices. No effort to explain anything professionally, honor the advertised pricing, or resolve the issue- just attitude and excuses. If your online menu is inaccurate by over $20, fix it instead of wasting customers' time. This felt like direct bait-and-switch advertising. I've had an extremely disappointing experience and I won't be returning.
