Surf side deli catered my baby shower picnic-style event and it was a hit! Everyone was giving compliments on the sandwiches and how delicious they were. We got 3 sandwich platters for 25 adults. Each platter come with 6 sandwiches cut into 3rds, but because their sandwiches are so big, 1/3 sandwich is like a 1/2. What I really liked about their catering was the ability to customize the platters. I got 2 platters of 3 different sandwich types each, and 1 platter with 2 different sandwich types: so overall we had 8 different sandwich types across all 3 platters which gave everyone an option. The most popular was the #1. The sandwiches come with their number written on them so we put a menu out for people to read the description of the sandwich contents. The #1 barely had any turkey on it, and there was one strip of bacon in the entire sandwich that seemed like it wasn't even cooked. Such a nice group of guys working at the Surf Side Deli. They make each sandwich to order and the bread is just the right amount of squishy. I prefer shredded lettuce over leafs on my sandwiches, so extra bonus star for that. Plus, the smoker out back tells me they actually smoke their own meat. They have warm and cold sandwiches, plus the option to have them as a salad. Some of the names pay tribute to the local Navy, others to surf culture. Ordered the USS Midway and Domination subs - both were very good. The bread tastes fresh, soft in the middle and a little crunch on the outside. The meatball sub had a flavorful marinara and a garlic butter - yum. Hubs thoroughly enjoyed the Midway; he said he loved everything about it! The deli is tucked away in a small strip mall type area, seemingly unassuming. But then you walk in and they have a surfy indoor dining room with TVs, an outdoor dining patio with heat lamps and puppy bowls for your furry dining partners. I liked everything about this spot! Went here after reading a bunch of reviews hyping the place up. Went on the weekend at lunchtime and it was almost empty. We ordered ahead because we heard this place could be packed, but hey I won't complain on that front. We got the Longhorn sandwich and Cali Sub, with the different potato/mac salad and a cookie, wanted to get the full experience. The sandwiches were both way less exciting than I thought, and kinda bland, chipotle mayo bland. Personally I would pick Jersey mikes sandwiches over this. The potato and mac salads were my favorite part, and cookie tasted like it could be homemade. We tried sitting on their patio but the flies were SO aggressively in our food and face we had to move inside. I used to eat lunch here a lot a few years ago when I worked in the area, about 5 years ago. I decided to swing by since I was in the area today, and boy was I disappointed! The prices are one thing, I get inflation, $14 for a tuna sandwich, oh well. But the quality of the sandwich....thumbs down. Dry, stale bread, and the roll seemed smaller than it used to be (shrinkflation), hardly any condiments/veggies, and the tuna was tasteless, not what I remember at all! To top it off, the guy working the counter (on a Tuesday around 1pm) seemed really surly and borderline rude. No 'Hi' or 'Welcome' or.....anything a polite human MIGHT say in a situation like this. Just stands behind the cash register, puts hands down on the counter (body language SCREAMING "What the hell do you want?") and continues to stare at me with a dirty look. I get that some people have bad days at work, but dang, don't take it out on one that DIDN'T screw up your day. This job ain't for this guy! On top of all that, if you haven't been here before, good luck parking! Only like 4 spaces, and if you can't somehow back into one from a busy street (in constant traffic), you will have to back up INTO busy traffic when you leave, not ideal (or safe). The sandwich - the coleslaw in it, was really good, crisp not all soggy. The dressing was light and really good For me the star is the bread, I think its an artisanal bread (not sure ) . We really love this spot however we have been very saddened that they have stopped making the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies! These were the best cookies around! The plain chocolate chips are subpar.
