It's freaking impossible to find a qualified HP tuner in the Bay Area. After searching for nearly a month I was able to stumble across Newtech Performance on the ol interweb I got in contact with Nick "the Tuner" who has been Dyno tuning cars for years. I made an appointment with for him Dyno tune my car "no you can't just drop in and expect him to tune your car" When I brought my car in I spoke with Nick and told him the modifications I performed on my car. Nick is super nice but more importantly knows what the heck he's doing "super smart and has a wealth of knowledge. After tuning my car, Nick told me that the ECM had way to much timing programed into it "29 degrees " and would have been detrimental to my new engine. Car was Tuned by Nick and it is running very rich, Gear Shift Points are off. Nothing was done. He took the tune off the shelf and loaded instead of actually dialing everything in. I brought low miles CTSV for a basic bold ons. Josh does amazing work installing but this tuner defiantly has no idea what's his doing or bothers to drive and test the vehicles after works. I took it to Matt from GP and he had to fix a never ending list what was not even done. Car ran like shit after his tune. I left voice mails calls and no over even bothered to call back. Josh's reply from JRG was you probably broke something without even offering to take the car in. Once again installation work was perfect but not the place you want to bring your LS cars too. Took my '14 pro charged vette in with no appointment and he handled the tune same day. He said give him a couple hours, I was expecting him to have the car over night as I had no appointment but he dyno'd/tuned it in right around 1-1/2 or 2 hours ish and fixed my pretty large power loss at higher rpms and intermittent knock sensors tripping. He even added an additional 20hp compared to pro chargers emailed tune. He will be getting more of my money and car for sure. read more

I took my 2009 Silverado 4x4 LT Crew Cab to Nick after I purchased it. The previous owner had paid for a lot of mods to the truck without tuning it. Prior to the tune, the over-sized 34" tires and transmission where out of sync. This was leading to some fairly bad MPG and hard accelerations. I want to say from the start that I did not request a "performance" tune. I wanted a tune for towing/hauling and for 87 octane usage. Nick worked several hours tuning the truck. He managed to correct the very lean fuel usage and saved my knock sensors. The transmission is now synced to the tires as well and driving feels great. The truck no longer whines, the MPG has increased slightly, and towing/hauling feels stronger in all gears. I am glad I had this service done to my vehicle. read more

Lol, damn I read all these reviews even before I went there. Bunch of salty females . Well after like 20 MFers said this was the spot, they were right. Got an appointment pretty close to a week after I asked, and within 5 minutes of him asking questions, I left, got called back 2 hours later and it was done. Not only did he finish but let me know what I had to do to squeeze out of my LS and that I could come back if I made some changes. All the hate on here y'all act like you were going to see a psychiatrist, it's a shop, where they work on cars. Brought my 69 Camaro to Nick after a LS Swap from VK Autosport in Redwood City. The swap shop completely hacked my car...gave it to me smoking out of the exhaust, bad sensors installed, no cam retaining plate installed, left tools in the air cleaner etc. etc....anyway, brought it to Nick for a diagnosis. He was able to plug in his computer, diagnose the issues, switched out bad sensors, installed a retaining plate and got my car safe to drive. I was appalled when I initially heard the new of the bad swap, but Nick gave light at the end of the tunnel. Josh next door chimed in and was helpful too. Once the break in is done, I will definitely bring the car back to Nick for a full tune and dyno. This guy is worth every penny just from his knowledge alone. read more

Nick laid a base tune had my car running super rich heard a bunch of story's about this guy since then about how he's messed up a lot of other cars charged me 500 for nothing went and got a tune from someone else paid 350 with Dyno tune I think he just doesn't care if he didn't build your car not sure but I wouldn't recommend ANYONE to bring your car to him. read more

Had my V tuned by Nick twice. 1st time my car picked up close to 70whp from pulley alone. Had some issues after, not from the tune, but the effects of a collapsed brick. He took a look at the tune again and told my I was having really high IAT2. I later addressed the issue and added e85. He got about another 90whp gain from that tune. Nick has been great with my car and I would definitely recommend his tuning services. Can't speak on install as I haven't had him wrench on my car, but wouldn't have a problem having him work on my car if needed. read more

Nick knows what he's doing and will let you know what you need to do if your not hitting your expected numbers, usually because you've mismatched your build somewhere. Bring something built right and he'll squeeze all he can out of it. He'll put in the time and do what he can otherwise, but don't be mad if your numbers are lower than expected. read more

newtech is horrible. I tried to have a clutch installed. they told me it would take a few hours. after several days and destroying the brand new clutch I brought in I got my car back. I then took it to another shop who installed the clutch in about 4 hours. they installed a brand new moser rear end. everything seemed ok. after blowing out two axle seals and pinon seal I called moser. Moser said it either was over filled, or not properly vented. I wish I had taken pictures of they plastic tube they stuck in the rear end to vent it. This is a joke. Another friend of mine with a saleen went thru six months of problems with these guys and a supercharger install. I like Josh, but they have alot of problems. Ive always heard bad things about Nick. Do not take your car to this place unless you want problems and headaches. read more

I don't know how you guys can rate Newtech so high. Nick provided horrible customer service, didn't even attempt to make eye contact when I asked him a question, and wasn't very friendly at all. He tunes the cars way too rich, and you get a terrible gas smell that is unbearable. He only did like two pulls when he tuned my car, tunes for wide open throttle only, and didn't try hard enough to squeeze more power out of the car. If you want a real tune, I'd recommend TPS in Campbell. read more

Nick does good work. He did headers and a tune on my 2002 z06 and I am very happy. The car has a little more power from the headers and the tune really smoothed out the power. The price was right and the work was good. I think the bad reviews come from personality conflict, not workmanship. read more

I have been going to Nick for about 7 years now. Most people that I know go to him as well. He is the most knowledgeable tuner I have known . The suggestions and advice he gives are legit and really do make a difference . He is not like other shops that suggest to purchase their "custom" set up(s) in order to make some power. Nick thoroughly went through all the parameters on my car for both power and better streetability . He definitely knows what he is doing. Nick did an excellent job tuning my Trans am. I have never had a single problem with any of his tunes dating as far back to about 2005. This go around he took the extra time on the dyno to clean up the tune and it drives beautifully. Made some good recommendations as far as where I can improve upon as far as the engine goes. Be careful with these guys. after picking up my car and started to get on the road i instantly started having problems. here's my list, fuel leaks, poor tune, blowing out cats, multiple scratches on bumper, bumper corners was broke on the inside so when it was put back on it didnt line up and the ends where popping off, hood alignment was changed and barley popped open, boostapump amp was not in the the right spot which could potentially cause electrical fire, fuel lines put on backwards (cross over was on the back not front) and damaged, rear end looks like it has been tampered with and resealed with a weird sealant which was poorly put on (looks like a seal blew probably on the dyno and then got band aid over to cover up), and gum was stepped on and now is stuck on my driver side floor mat. i took my car back numerous times for lousy tune which where basic things that should have been taken into consideration when tuning a forced induction set up and fuel leak. fuel leak was never fixed and ended up fixing it myself. had to take my car into a auto body shop to get bumper fixed. then i started to blow out cats ( good tune should not be blowing cats).so i took my car to their competitor in Fremont and got a re-tune and numerous things fixed that newtech created for me. please take this review into consideration because this shop created the biggest nightmare Ive ever had. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO NEWTECH PERFORMANCE!!! read more

this guy charged me 550 bucks to safe tune my truck. told me to drive it and break it in before he would dyno it. said come back and it would be another 150 to dyno and i would be done. after numerous calls have gone unanswered and he never opens his shop. he is a scammer and a liar. do not take your vehicle here. take it to synergy in fremont and get it done right the first time. read more
