My experience with Newton Driving School was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. The communication with parents is terrible, and concerns are not handled with basic courtesy or respect. Considering how expensive this service is, it is unacceptable that we were not treated with the level of service, communication, and respect we deserve. I paid a significant amount of money expecting a professional service, but instead I received poor communication and was even told that my emails were "idiotic." "I will be processing a refund shortly. I do not need any customer sending me idiotic emails and not do their part." This is an incredibly disrespectful and inappropriate way to speak to a customer and a parent. If a school has an issue with a customer, there are professional ways to communicate it. Calling a customer's emails "idiotic" is completely unacceptable. Parents are paying for a service and deserve clear communication, professionalism, and basic respect. Unfortunately, I experienced none of those things. I would strongly advise other parents to think twice before choosing this driving school. Sometimes the person answering my phone inquiry was very impatient (other time it was nice). Also, my first instructor had a very thick russian accent and a short temper (although he's intention was good), that spoiled my learning experience quite a bit. I changed an instructor and things got better after then. After taking the lessons I was able to pass the road test easily near the driving school. read more

The worst customer service I have ever encountered. You compete with many clients for spots on their very limited schedule, so booking lessons is a frustrating chore. When I asked for his 16 year old brother, would they have discount for siblings if they both take classes? She was so pissed and asked me if I had discount at my workplace? My daughter had a lesson with an old man and she explained to me it was the worst experience ever. When they first got in the car, she told me that he made her sit in the way he wanted her to sit. Her knees were already touching the wheel and her back was up straight. He then asks her if she is comfortable with her obviously replying with no. Somehow, the blame goes on her and she immediately felt uncomfortable and confused as she thought that she could sit the way she felt most comfortable. Not only that but, she explained me that her instructor touched her whole head and shoved it forward so she could see the mirror during a 3 point turn. In my opinion, i know my daughter is fully capable to seeing the mirror without an old man touching her. This behavior was unacceptable as they shouldn't be touching or getting mad at teenagers learning to drive, they are meant to make mistakes but with someone being rude and annoyed at them, it won't help. read more

I wanted to thank you the staff for all their help! I was looking for a driving school for my mother who needed to take the the test for learner's permit in her native language but I was unsuccessful in finding the material for studying other than English. When I called the school they provided me step by step instructions of the steps we needed to do to apply for learner's permit and also provided me with the learning material in my mom's native language. went to this school a few years ago and it was a pretty bad experience. After a few years of driving I can say they didn't help at all. Had an especially bad experience with gregory. One time, he slammed on the breaks while I was going about 27 MPH the second that we passed into a speed limit 25 zone. It brought the car to almost a complete stop in a busy road and I honestly can't believe we didn't get rear ended. He did the same thing later and claimed that I had not stopped for a pedestrian who was already on the sidewalk when I passed by. One time he scolded me for coughing while I was in the back street. Another instructor one time told me to merge into a lane then slammed on the breaks and yelled at me. Overall a stressful and not helpful experience. read more

They are terrible. I signed my high schooler up before the pandemic, so she wasn't able to do the driving lessons. When we called when things were safer, they said two years had passed and would neither schedule lessons nor give us a partial refund. Most metro Boston driving schools are pretty lax and useless. Newton Driving School is particularly mediocre, however. The inside word in our community among kids is that it is just a place to get by and pass the road test as easily as possible. The instructor of the parent class basically said the same thing. Student classroom program was a waste of time. Road lessons wildly inconsistent. My child who is generally a smart, careful driver was left bewildered. He got very contradictory instructions from teacher to teacher especially for the parallel parking. Despite the school's claim to have 95% pass rate on the road test, my child failed the road test twice. I highly recommend you pursue another school in the area for your teenager or yourself if you care about safe and thorough driver education and attention to actual learning needs. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before I signed my daughter up. I have put four other children through driving schools. This school was the rudest and most incompetent program I have ever been through. Every time I had to speak to someone on the phone they were rude, inpatient and actually mean at times. The driving lessons were inconsistent, I would be told it would be two hours, one of each driving and observing and my daughter would get in the car and they would tell her it would just be one hour. They canceled on me last minute but when I had to cancel last minute, they charged me. My daughter felt the drivers were also not patient. Many times she had difficulty understanding them. Sadly, my daughter did not pass the driving test. I would not recommend using Newton Driving School. If they read this, I hope they realize it's important to be polite and kind on the phone, your customs are what's keeping you in business. read more

My experience with this school was a little varied. I purchased their road test sponsorship + 1 lesson package. On the logistics/scheduling end, I was fully satisfied-- I took my test on 6/21, and they were timely with responding to emails, and also my phone calls. The required lesson, however, was terrible. I had Vladimir, who was nice and even humorous at first, but when driving, I found him completely inadequate as an instructor. He was impatient, aggressive, and similarly to another reviewer on the site, he kept grabbing my wheel unnecessarily. At the end of the lesson, I actually felt more insecure about my driving. I will say that the information he was providing about how to pass the exam was valid and helpful, but the way he communicated that was very unprofessional. A little background-- I have been driving with the help of my parents for around a year now and they have always said that I am a decent driver (and I did pass the road test on 6/21 with flying colors). I know that all the instructors and staff at this school are NOT like the teacher I had, since the instructor at my road test site was very kind and helpful. I would not recommend someone to take this school. They are so rude. A month ago I sent them an email if they could do home pick up and drop off so it will be more convenient, and they said not until September, so I waited. Then few days before my in-car lesson start I sent an email and I have been calling them to make sure that they change my pick up to home location but nobody answering. Then 5 minutes before my lesson they called me and I spoke to the rude woman and she just not even say goodbye after we talked she just hang up and she even raised her voice in the phone while I was talking. Where is the manners? Then my instructor showed up in the house was calling me and I asked him are you outside and he gave me a sarcastic answer maybe you should look around to see me. Ridiculous. How I am going to know if where he is since the rude woman who I have talked to doesn't even tell me that the instructor is coming late at 4:20 and my appointment is 4pm or what's the deal?if I have to go to the school or have to wait in the house coz she just hang up in the phone. The instructor said I have to leave you at 4:50 and your hours already started at 4pm since I left the office. So I paid $80 for 30minutes?I told him that they should informed students ahead of time that's how it works that the 1 hour will start from where the driver start driving from Newton Driving school to the house coz if it works like that I would rather go there office so I can have my full 1 hour. I just passed my road test today thanks to Newton Driving School, after two lessons and additional practice with family members. For reference, I am 27. My two instructors were good, I recommend Gennadiy especially - he was extremely helpful. I was actually a bit over-prepared for the test, as the examiner didn't even ask me anything about headlights, wipers, hazards etc. I did make two slight mistakes, which I think were due to nerves/not being super familiar with the car, but the examiner didn't mind and said he had "seen worse." It was fairly easy to schedule the driving lessons and my phone calls and emails were answered promptly. The one annoyance I had was that when I scheduled the first lesson, I wanted to schedule the second at the same time but was advised to just do it after the first lesson. However, by that time there was no lesson availability until the day before my test, which was frustrating. If you're learning to drive in the summer, I recommend scheduling all your lessons at the same time and as early as possible before slots fill up - same goes for the test. Overall I was a little nervous about Newton Driving School due to some other reviews on here but my experience was almost totally a positive one and I found all employees I interacted with to be professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. Steer clear of this school!! they only want your money! After 5 lessons my son has gone into traffic 1 time. He has gone through one traffic signal after I requested the instructor to take him into traffic after lesson 4. My son had left his permit in the folder provided by the driving school instructors car. The permit must've slipped out because my son didn't have his permit for the next day. I called and spoke to a very rude woman .She told me we would forfeit the lesson plus a $65 cancellation fee. I attempted to reason with this woman .The drivers are frequently late .I was told that their lessons are 45 to 50 minutes. However the appointments are booked in hour increments The woman I spoke to I believe is one of the owners and is very unprofessional. She has no customer service skills. I decided against fighting over $65 and to finish out the remainder of the lessons and be done with it. Update.: I thought I had worked things out with the driving school.
