I have been in a lot of pain, and got a massage a week ago, it was wonderful. Because it was the first thing in a while that helped my back pain, I immediately scheduled another appt for the next week with the woman who gave me my massage. On the day of the appointment, I was asked to come in earlier. I wasn't able to, but said I could come in later. She agreed. I made the mistake of assuming it would be with the same person, I was wrong. The massage was just ok, it did not hit any of the same spots as the massage by the first woman, and I honestly left feeling upset and more tense than when I got there. I realize this is a first world problem, but I don't spend money on myself often. Not to mention it did nothing to help my pain, the whole reason I booked a second appointment. read more

Absolutely terrible. I was 10 minutes into getting a massage when another person came into the room and said I had to leave because they just booked 2 new reservations. I said, "But I'm getting a massage now!" Nobody spoke English so I was very confused. They made me get dressed and leave, but the best part was they wanted me to pay! It may have been the recent move or the gazillion boxes to unpack but I came here recently and, for the first time ever, almost passed out on the massage table from sheer bliss. The kind of massage they do here is called "tuina" with focus on pressure points and small, tailored movements to really hammer down on knots and soreness. Tony made sure to regularly check on the pressure he was applying - seriously, the 90 minutes just flew by. I'd love to come back. The scalp massage alone will take off the stress of the week. A couple of notes: 1. They have a few specials online but I think the rules changed a little, since apparently I didn't say the magic combo of words on the phone ("buy one hour get a half hour free") or have enough cash on hand. So the guy behind the counter did a little math and charged $80, which, not including tip, is pricey for a massage. Next time, make sure you have enough cash for their special offers. 2. Parking across the street is metered but I think for about 2 hours, it was less than $2. Just be careful not to park in the "permit only" section. 3. I walked around the building a bit completely lost, not realizing the spa is one of the suites and located in the basement. At one point, I accidentally ended up in some random parking lot. Just look for the big sign with the Cypress hair salon name on it and use the other door. read more

Poor character as they complained how much tip I gave them because I didn't feel like my provider deserved more. Decent, but not great. And the provider kept telling me what I need to do and how much pressure I should have versus what I wanted. Her unnecessary opinions and not listening to what I wanted merited a lower tip (15%) . I will not return because of the character the provider and owner showed. If the provider kept her opinions to herself and gave me the service I asked for, then I would probably be back. read more

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while and while I'm glad I did, sadly I'm not sure I would recommend it or return. I booked the $69 cash special which was supposed to be an hour body massage followed by 30 minutes of footwork. I mostly wanted to go for a nice 30 minute foot massage and maybe some reflexology as billed, but unfortunately when my hour of body work was over, my massage therapist mostly worked on my lower legs - and very painfully at that. I had already asked him to lighten up the pressure on my extremities but that only lasted a few minutes and he forgot. I was recoiling from the pain and he didn't seem to notice. I barely got 5 minutes on each foot, and was very disappointed. Also - he wiped down my legs and feet VERY harshly with dry paper towels. What a crappy way to end things! He had used a warm towel on my back which he didn't even need to do because he barely used any lotion. He didn't actually use any when he massaged my arms and hands and that was not particularly enjoyable (see pictures of arm bruises). Maybe it's just this particular person, but even at $69 + tip it probably wasn't worth it. Also, other reviews seem to note that people got their full time. I arrived 2 minutes late, my massage started 10 minutes past the time I had booked, and I was not given the full 90 minutes, only 80. Came here for the first time. Made an appointment for their 90 minute massage for $69 (not including tip), using their online special. What's Hot - Price. $69 for a 1.5hrs massage is the best price that I've come across in the area. Most spas that I've come across in the wider area, charge well over $70 per hour (mostly over $100/hr). Definitely go on their website and look up what specials they may have. I did a screen shot of the special and showed their staffer when I checked in. He acknowledged it and I was good-to-go. - Quality. Pretty good! This is one of the better quality massages I've had in the local area. From what I can tell, this place is run by Chinese immigrants, which automatically told me their quality is better. I know I'm bias, but some of the best quality massages I've had are by Chinese immigrants. My masseuse knew what she was doing and she put her whole body into the massage. What I mean by that is that she would use the side of her arm to put pressure on my back and I could feel her using her body weight, by leaning in to the pressure points on my body for a more effective massage. When I told her which parts of my body were the most sore, she acknowledged it and also said she could feel the tension/knots in my body. As she was massaging me, she would mention which spots she could feel the tightness/tension. She would check in with me regularly and ask me how I felt with the pressure she applied. She also applied pressure on specific pressure points on my body and told me to relax my body a bit more and not tighten up so much. Once I did, I could feel the tension leaving my body. This place uses the traditional Chinese form of massage, where there may be an initial bit of pain that transitions to relaxation, because it forces and eases the soreness/tension to leave your body. She also massaged my head, around my temples and jawline, which I enjoy, because it is so relaxing. They definitely know what they're doing. - Location. Pretty good location and it's easy to find. There are signs outside the building that confirm the location and where it's located in the building. Additionally, it's pretty conveniently located to other amenities in the area. - Health and safety standards. During this time of the pandemic, as health and safety standards are evolving, it's very reassuring to see their staff wear masks. Their staff at the front desk wore a mask, as did my masseuse. I don't recall seeing a sign requiring customers to wear masks. Midway through my massage, my masseuse saw me wear a mask and she told me that it's ok for me to take my mask off. I was reassured seeing their staff wear masks, especially because the individual massage rooms are not large. What's Not - Cash preferred. They take all forms of payment, but cash is preferred. Any other type of payment means you will be charged extra for the user fee. On the one hand, I'm not surprised, because Chinese-run businesses tend to prefer cash. On the other hand, it's a small annoyance, because electronic payments are more simple/user friendly for the customer. - Parking. Parking is not difficult to find, but it depends on the time and day. There is a metered-parking lot across the street. You can find free parking in the area, but be prepared to walk a little bit if you want free parking. - Pace. Although my massage was a great quality, my masseuse's pace was a bit frantic/quicker. I prefer my massages to be more slow and methodical, but that's just me. Do not recommend. Went here for a couples massage with my boyfriend. Felt very unprofessional. A woman and man walked into the room and the woman began with me. When the man walked into the room he insisted on doing me instead. I have had many massages before and none that were this invasive. He was mainly massaging my butt. Whenever he was touching anywhere else it was extremely painful. It smelled like they were using cooking oil to massage. Barley used any lotion. It is cheap for a reason do not waste your money. Best overall deal for massage in the Boston/Newton area. If you pay cash there is a significant discount, making it hard to not get weekly massages! My one qualm is the "reflexology" 30 min add-on to my bodywork's massage was a let down. If you've had reflexology before, this is not it. Nonetheless, it was a very solid foot massage. I never have to wait, am escorted right to the massage room upon arrival. If you go during the time the salon is open upstairs, you can sometimes hear loud footsteps during your massage. That doesn't bother me a whole lot since the massage is SO good. Keep in mind, this is much firmer than your standard massage, and they WILL dig into your muscles until the knots are gone. I usually have bruises the next day, but I bruise very easily. Just a heads up for sensitive folk All in all, highly recommend! read more

I'm absolutely baffled at all the good reviews - if I could give this place negative 5 stars I would. We recently went for a couples massage (I get monthly massages at a different spa but wanted to try a couples massage) and this has to be the WORST massage I've ever had. I ended up having to apply baby oil to the friction rashes on my back, take ibuprofen around the clock, and lie on ice packs to decrease the pain. Neither of our massage therapists spoke English so whenever I would say "gentler" or "no more in this area" - she had no idea what I was talking about and kept going. At one point I had to put my hands on my low back to prevent her from continuing. She also didn't seem to understand body language as I kept trying to physically express that I was in pain given the language barrier Let's just recap the experience: -The man that checked us in was extremely rude - he kept yelling at us in broken English and shaking his phone to communicate that he needed to scan our Groupon. When we reminded him we were using a Groupon as the instructions indicate to do upon arrival, his response was "yes yes, I get it, you told me on the phone". -There's no sheet to cover yourself, it's just a towel - how are you supposed to stay covered while flipped over? There was also a mesh covering under you that I've never seen before. -I've NEVER had a message therapist jump onto the bed and then use their elbows and knees to massage you - I thought she was going to break my back. Mind you, she can see I'm a small 100lb woman. -Kept pushing my chest and neck with all her body weight that a few times I started coughing from having my trachea compressed against the base of the face cut out. -She came over with her hands full of cold oil and dumped in on my back then started rubbing it all over like a toddler finger painting. -She grabbed both my legs and pulled them apart (they always gently lift and move them one at a time). -They left the massage door open (we could hear people outside, didn't know if they could see us) to go get the hot stones to apply ON MY FRICTION RASH. -She put her FINGERS in my EARS and pulled them, like why? I was treated to a wonderfully professional, not rushed and very thorough back massage with soothing and yet firm and deep muscle work. Ended with fabulous hot stones and even a scalp massage. I've also had an hour of reflexology that was amazing. And I've tried couples massages, where both masseuses start and end at the same time. Soothing, incredibly relaxing, with peaceful new-age-y music that was not overwhelming. The spaces were simple and well kept and clean and stylish. I felt rejuvenated and peaceful afterwards. Have been going to this place since it opened in 2021, and finally come around for a review. I used to go to Massage Envy, Elements Massage, and other massage establishments in the Brookline/Newton area on a weekly basis, but I have switched to Cypress Foot Spa for good. First and foremost, it's a honest 60 minutes with a great price. Unlike other places which gives you only 45 minutes or 50 minutes for 25% more money, and if you are 5 minutes late, you get 5 minutes less time. Cypress honors full 60 minutes, and always with a smile even if I was late. The receptionist is friendly and accommodating, and appointments are easy to book, usually within the same day for me. The place is very clean and calm with aromatherapy in the air. The masseurs' skills are very even, and owner told me they are recruited from the same Tuina massage school in Flushing, NY. Jimmy, Julia, Emma, and Owen are my favorite. Tuina is a form of Chinese styled deep tissue massage, and some masseurs might mix in Thai massage skills which incorporates "lazy yoga" in it. They also include a Hot Stone massage which other places charge more for it. If you like softer type of massage like Swedish Massage, tell the receptionist to skip the Tuina pressing portion in the beginning and go straight to oil massage. All and all, this place is A+++ for me, and my weekly visit is a necessity for my good health. read more
