My last two pedicure experiences here were not good. This most recent time, the technician rushed thru the pedicure in about 25 minutes which included maybe 30 seconds of exfoliation, 30 seconds of scrubbing the bottom of my feet, and maybe 90 seconds of massage. She missed the areas I asked her to take care of as well which I didn't realize until I got home. Basically a waste of money. The time before that, just as the technician (a different one) was about to give me the price list to select which package I wanted the manager/owner signaled her to put it away and to continue on. She probably thought she was being subtle but not so much. The technician seemed a little embarrassed/confused so I didn't say anything but the next thing I know I was upsold without my approval. $60 instead of $35. The quality was certainly better than what I just experienced but two negative experiences in a row are enough for me. The latest owner seems to run the business very differently than the woman who owned it for several years. I'm done. There are so many other places to choose from. Also, just for the record, the primary images on their Yelp page are not current. Most if not all of those women are gone, including the owner on the far left. read more

Have been here for a massage and gel manicure. Massage: for 60 minutes the price is a good deal. The masseuse did a good job with applying pressure (I asked for heavy pressure) and she did a good job at addressing full body using the full hour time. It's no frills, just a solid massage with cream and I believe she used some hot stones. Only thing, I wish they had played some background massage music in the room. Gel manicure: no complaints about the gel manicure service. It has been a week since and so far no chips! They have a "natural" gel polish I decided to try over the OPI that is holding up better. They also added a matte effect that I asked for and overall happy with the application. The facility is very big. The massages are upstairs and nail salon services downstairs. Plenty of parking out front and I appreciate the online booking system they have. read more

Unfortunately the website has prices that are much less than the brochure in the establishment. Discussion about this discrepancy was frustrating because the staff speak only a few English words. So the language barrier made communication about cost very difficult. This was also a barrier in talking about specifications regarding the massage. Usually when I go for a massage I am asked about areas that need attention or areas to avoid. This was not possible Other issues were the masseuse being 15 minutes late and more discussion at conclusion of this encounter about price and the 20% tip that is expected. Very clean and efficient, brought myself and my mother for facials and she is still talking about it

I like deep tissue and never seem to get a massage that eases my back pain and tension for more than a day or two. Then I found Tri Zen..... I live with chronic back pain from a lifting injury. I've been unable to bend over, lift anything, or get out of bed in the morning without sharp pain EVERY single day. I went to Tri Zen and had a massage with Chendra (spelling?). I explained to her that my diagnosis was a QL strain. She had some techniques of pressure and kneading that were painful for a few seconds, but then I just felt the muscle just relax....and t's been 9 days since my massage and I have had NO pain. At all. I have been getting massages for years, and although they were deep tissue, and relaxing, none of them have ever actually relieved my pain the way this one did. I am so happy, I bought a 12 masasge package so I can keep living pain free. Thank you Tri Zen!!! read more

My husband bought the livingsocial deal for me and I am so glad he did! I've been needing to find a masseuse that actually knows how to do Chinese/Eastern massage well. I've received many "deep tissue" massages in the states but still never the same type of pressure and accuracy of hitting all points like I've had in Asia. Finally I have found a place that actually knows what they are doing! My masseuse was Theresa and she asked what type of pressure I liked first and told me if it were ever too much pressure to let her know. Just from her initial kneading, she knew where most of my pain lied and focused on those areas; really working out the knots and even finding some knots that I didn't even know existed! If you have never had an Eastern style massage, I do warn you that there are times where you will feel a bit out of element if you are used to the Western style spas. First off, you have to know that Eastern massage tends to use a little more pressure than Western. It shouldn't be painful but you will feel sore. Second, in order to get a really good "work out" of your body, they will incorporate some stretching and will help ease you into some stretches and twists that are meant to help work out those muscles that never get any attention. Overall, this was a great experience and I highly recommend them. The center was really clean and very comfortable. The masseuses are friendly and they are knowledgable so although they may be soft-spoken at first, don't hesitate to ask them questions. read more

I had the most bizarre experience here and it's quite a hilarious story but bottomline I will never come back here. My masseuse (I did not catch her name, but an Asian lady w/ an accent) started my hour long massage by asking "Do you like it hard or soft?" to which I replied hard. She then put a towel on my back and quickly just started kneading my back very rapidly. I like to be eased into a massage by starting out slow first. I could feel hear the friction between the towel and her hands. She said nothing else to me the whole time. I don't need conversation but if you're going to pull down my underwear I'd like a little warning first which was another bizarre thing. She then mounted the massage table by putting her knees on either side of my head while I was laying on my stomach, and I couldn't help but think that her "pelvis" was uncomfortably close to my head. She proceeded to massage my back as if she was Cinderella wiping the floor on her hands and knees. So bizarre. She did loosen some knots I had. I was afraid she was gonna give me a happy ending, which fortunately she did not. She also massaged my head in a very weird way, pulling at my hair sometimes, but overall the head massage was not comfortable because I could hear her fingers raining over my hair and it was an unpleasant sound. Usually when I get a head massage, the masseur places their fingers in a spot and move with the skin. The loud buzzer went off indicating my hour was over, and I think it was like 5 minute too short to be honest. Other observations were that since that doors are like japanese paper walls, you can hear everything going on in this place of business like the phone calls and other things. I have been coming to tri zen for some time now. Before coming here I have been to many other places. I have a bad shoulder so I have been getting massages basically twice a month for over 5 years. Tri-zen is a very clean and professional spa with conscientious and caring therapists. I have been seeing Gina for a long time and as far as deep tissue goes... She knows what she is doing. She is very strong and knows her anatomy. She has been away in China for a month and Nah has been covering her. Nah gave me a wonderful massage last night. She loosened up tension in my neck that I have been carrying for as long as I can remember. I highly recommend tri-zen for your massages. You will not be disappointed. read more

As it turns out, I drive by this place 2x a day, to-and-from work. I've recently stepped up my workouts at the gym and have begun to feel stress aches and fatigue in my muscles and joints. I started thinking I should attempt a massage, but I didn't know where to go. I generally don't like massages all that much - never really my thing. In fact, my last massage (a place that will remain nameless in Brighton) was so bad, I've stayed away from massages altogether for the past 1.5 years. So as I was passing by Tri Zen one afternoon, feeling achy, I decided to pull in and see what's up - they're still a relatively new addition to Newton. I walked into the office which is clean, comfortable, and immediately greeted at the door by Teresa with a smile. She told me she was booked up for a while, so we instead scheduled an appointment. When I returned, I was led to a cozy massage room with beautiful pocket doors and a well-dressed massage table. Everything very comfortable and clean. The music was soft and comforting (note: perhaps they took note of previous reviews regarding the music, because during my visit it was quite a pleasant volume-level) My massage was AMAZING! As I said, I'm not one for the massage experience, but Teresa put me right at ease and had me completely relaxed. When the time was up, I was aches-and-pains free. She has a variety of massage styles in her arsenal. Thanks to Tri Zen, my faith in a useful, relaxing massage has been restored. I would recommend this place to anyone. Came here after a round of winter golf with my buddy figuring I should pamper myself every once in a while. Not really into massages regularly but I bought two sessions after seeing this half off deal on Groupon so decided to give it a shot. Meant to go with my wife but she's been quite busy lately so my buddy lucked out by coming with me to the massage. The place was clean and relaxing so that put me at ease right away. It was a busy day for them and all the single rooms were full so we were asked if we're OK going into the couple's room - it's a bigger room with tables side-by-side. A bit weird at first as it was too romantic for us dudes but would have been perfect if I had brought my wife instead. It turned out great though as we were able to shoot more shit about golf while getting our backs un-knotted. Not the a big fan of acupressure so I asked for a stretching massage and my therapist Teresa did a great job relaxing my sore limbs and back. My buddy was very satisfied with his massage too. I really needed a great deep tissue massage, have come here many times for nails and figured I'd try it. Never again. I've had a million massages in my life and this was by far the worse. At times uncomfortable, definitely not trained in massage at all it was a deep rub. At times she went across my spine and was rubbing the bone not muscle. Then after at $70 when awful, asked me if I had cash for tip, I gave her a $20 and asked for $10 back, her response was that wasn't even 20%!!!! That's cuz it was no good. THEN...she only had $4 to give back. So in the end I just paid $86 for by far the worse massage ever. Never go back which is too bad. Annie was particularly friendly and sweet and did a great job - good conversation and my nails and hands look really nice. The pedi is clean and has a hot stone massage and the massage chair actually worked really well! The mani was also a little luxurious - a little back rub and paraffin bath for my hands at the end. This place doubles as a nail salon downstairs and a massage center upstairs. I've been coming here for as long as they've been open, and I've always had a pleasant experience. Massages are amazing, I've done basic ones and also the Chinese massages. Both are great. As per nails, I've done regular and gel manicures and pedicures. I don't usually pick a single artist, because every single one does very well! Attention to detail, help picking colors, all the good stuff. This place is always SO clean! In addition, I get my eyebrows done here, and my mom does her eyelashes in this same place. Every service is well done and reasonably priced. read more

I bought a Groupon and scheduled a massage here. I've had many, many types of massage all over the world including in Asia and have NEVER had such a bad massage. A young man of about 22 called Tin gave the massage. I'm pretty sure he didn't graduate from any recognized massage school. It was a deep tissue massage given without oil which I found odd as in my experience only shiatsu and thai massage are done without oil and in these cases you wear light clothing for the massage. He seemed not to have a clue and I couldn't wait for it to end. I had my Groupon refunded and would advise someone NEVER to try this place. It's a scam in my view. I also experienced the Internet radio playing with commercials and him leaving the room for a few minutes during the treatment. Just AVOID the place! read more

The wait to walk it was very long. Took 2.5 hours for one gel manicure. Had foils on my nails for over half an hour. The lady who was supposed to remove them never came back.
