What a huge disappointment. I was excited when I heard that Next Level was coming to California and I couldn't wait to try it. But it turns out this place isn't nearly as good as an OK place like Veggie Grill. I tried their "Special Sauce" burger and their "Signature" burger. Neither was that impressive. One of the main problems is the bun. It's a boring bun that tastes like it's made out of sawdust. And it's the only bun they offer, except for a gluten-free one that costs a dollar extra. Then there's the patties. The "Special Sauce" burger comes with their "savory, meaty patty" which is their euphemism for "bland, food-service hockey puck." This is the same kind of patty you would expect from a school cafeteria, bought in wholesale quantities of one million or so. The "Signature" burger's "house-made umami mushroom and quinoa patty" was better, but still nothing special. Both burgers come with your choice of vegan cheddar or vegan Swiss and when I asked if they're house-made I was told that they're not. Then when I asked what brand they use they said they're not allowed to say. Same response when I asked about the "savory, meaty patty" - they said it's not house-made but that they're not allowed to say who makes it. That kind of attitude is remarkably disdainful of their customers. What idiot at the top of this company decided that they can provide the best customer experience by being secretive about the food and keeping their customer base in the dark? They mention on the menu that one of their burgers uses the "Beyond Burger" so why not tell us about the others? Veggie Grill is happy to tell you who makes what if you ask, why does Next Level treat it all like its classified information? Really unprofessional! I also got the BBQ Bleu fries, and these were not good. The menu says they come with "creamy blue cheese" but I'm sorry, when your "cheese" is the consistency of water then it's a sauce not a cheese. It also had a nasty, commercial taste to it, as did the BBQ sauce. And the fries themselves were unimpressive, even though I went for the "fried" fries instead of the baked ones. The one bright spot here was my shake. I got a "Dark chocolate PB cup shake" and it is one of the best vegan shakes I have ever had. I will definitely go back to try more shakes but probably wouldn't bother with the other food. It seems to me like Next Level gets so many basic things wrong that they probably would be better off selling out to a bigger company, or installing new leadership, because the attitude and execution here do not portend well for their future. read more

I have heard about this place from a friend & yesterday had a perfect opportunity to try it for myself while in the area. I really enjoyed my food. It took me forever to decide what I wanted due to so many great options. I finally ordered a Signature Burger. Patty was made out of Umami Mushroom & Quinoa. It was topped with sliced Avocado, Swiss style cheese, roasted garlic Mayo, lettuce, tomato & red onion. Avocado was not ready at all to eat. It was actually still crunchy, however as soon as I took it out I could not get enough of my burger. That burger did not have a chance.... it was gone in few bites. I also ordered some crinkles fries. They were tasty but I had a lot left over. If you are going with someone it might be a good idea to share fries. I'm going to preface by saying I'm not a vegetarian. But when I think of burger I think of meat. I decided to be a bit adventurous and try this vegan burger. The Bleu BBQ Burger was tasteless, mushy and overall not good. I honestly can't see why a non-vegan would like this place. The 2nd item I had was the "spicy" fries which weren't spicy at all. Maybe I got the wrong order? I don't know... there was nothing spicy about them. If you're a vegan, give this place a try you'll probably like it. For non-vegans, stay away from this place. Congrats, Next Level Burger: you're disappointing in so many different ways! Burger bun: cold, limp, dense, bland Burger patty: Limp, mushy, bland. It feels like it wasn't cooked thoroughly. If it were crispy, we might be onto something here. "Baked" crinkle fries: Mushy, limp, and tasted freezer-burnt! What a waste of calories. Were they baked hours before serving? Service: Well, after waiting 15 minutes after placing my order to receive the food, they still forgot one of the two burgers we ordered. We didn't notice until we got home, and after tasting the other burger we decided it wasn't worth it to go back. Lame. We ate a bit and threw the rest out. At least the dog liked the bun. Im vegetarian, but I eat vegan when I can and plan to switch over completely. I ordered here last week and got a BBQ blue burger and chilli fries. I sincerily believe it was one of the best burgers I've had. Vegan, vegetarian, meat, doesnt matter. It was so good. Today I got a kraft dog and bacon mushroom fries. Be warned. It is messy. No matter what your diet, you should definitely try it. On top of that, all of their packaging is from potatoes and completely compostable. Definite plus. It amazes me how everything NLB has to offer is vegan. First had these burgers in Bend, OR not realizing they recently opened one in Concord. I'm not a vegan nor am I able to be a vegetarian at this time but if I'm looking for a burger that won't make me feel heavy after eating it, I'm coming here. The menu is pretty diverse with what they offer and I have yet to try every type of protein they offer but this is definitely going to be a regular spot. They're also open later than most restaurants out here in Concord, so that's a big plus for me. Classic burger $7.50 (dill pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayo) B+ The burger is small and enough for a light eater. This is not bad for a meatless burger and satisfy your hamburger fix. The chili bean bratwurst hot dog (chili beans with cheese, red onions) on a whole grain bun $8. B+ This is not bad for a meatless hot dog and dairy free cheese. They offer soy milk shakes $5. to $7., but didn't try it bc the price is more then what I want to spend for added calories. Fries can be baked or fried and cost is $3.50 to $4.50. Again, I didn't try bc of unnecessary added calories. Prices are above average costs for their portion size, but they do provide a quality product. Also, the menu show how many calories for each entree....which is helpful if you're watching your calories. I recommend this place for vegan and vegetarians and one can feel comfort knowing you are going to get quality food without eating diary or meat from cows, pigs and chickens. I saw Next Level burger on Yelp when I was looking up local vegetarian spots. It looked super good and I knew I had to try! I got the signature burger which has a mushroom quinoa patty, avocado, garlic thyme aioli, smoked Gouda, lettuce, tomato, and I added tempeh bacon. It was so flavorful and delicious. The bacon had a great smokey flavor, and I would've never known the cheese and aioli were vegan. This is a great little spot to grab some groceries and get a delicious sandwich. read more

This place was polarizing. Their house special sauce, which they seem to put on everything, is amazing. But most of their burgers are small and not very filling, and I feel like the ones that are filling have an overpowering meat substitute-ish taste. For example, the less meaty Socal Burger I got was delightful (but small), whereas the "meatier" Beyond Burger was overpowering and I couldn't finish it. Their shakes are similarly overpowering. This is one of my favorite places for vegan food. I won't hesitate or think twice about traveling from Stockton to Concord. They never disappoint! I've never had anything bad. Everything is absolutely amazing and the shakes are delightful. My go to is the strawberry with coconut milk. It's thick and flavorful. They use real ingredients, nothing artificial. I've taken a few friends that are not vegan and they swore I was lying, because they said it was too good to be vegan. It's vegan and it's delicious. On my visit yesterday I had my usual strawberry milkshake and a plant based sausage with the works. Hands down, Delicious! I really hope they expand and make there way down to the Central Valley. read more

Ok, I'll admit that as a lifelong meat eater I'm likely very biased. In fact, I know that well enough that I would not have come here if it wasn't for a work group lunch outing. Next Level uses words like beefy and meaty in their menu descriptions, but they're not fooling anyone - certainly not me. These plant-based burgers don't taste anything like a cow-based burger. Even trying to give them a fair shot and judging it on its own merits (not as a comparison to a regular burger) I still wasn't feeling it. I tried the All American and the "patty" had a subtle, off-putting flavor and weird texture that I probably could have grown past, but the aftertaste was just unbearable. I took only a few bites before accepting defeat, removing the patty into the trash and eating a meatless (no pun intended) burger. At that point, the only thing in this sandwich resembling meat was the soy bacon, which I rather enjoyed but is in no way a replacement for actual pig bacon. Call me old school, but while I welcome elevated versions of the classic burger I'll have no part of this Next Level burger movement. read more

I got the jalapeño black bean (or maybe it was called the spicy black bean-I don't remember), the first time and the second time I tried the SoCal burger. The tempeh bacon was surprisingly so good, I've never had it before. Getting add ons, for instance, onions are $1-$1.50 which sort of bummed me out as usually these are staples for burgers. Artisanal sodas are also worth a try. My hard core meat eating boyfriend loved his burger! It's definitely a must try. Plus they have online ordering which is super rad! I've been here twice now. So here's the thing, I thought this was like any other burger joint, expecting the usual greasy cheeseburger and fries. Surprise! They don't use meat of any kind. I commend them for trying it really is the best veggie burger I've had which is like saying I drive the sweetest minivan on road. Kinda true but nobody cares. I'm sure that it is important to people with beliefs on the subject. I agree it is mostly terrible what we do to animals that we ultimately end up eating. However, I must side with Homer Simpson on this one "why do they have to be so delicious?" But until they outlaw burgers I'm hopelessly addicted to the real thing - that is when I do indulge. I will admit I don't enjoy this form of gluttony nearly as much as i used to. I'm taking away a star because their ordering/delivery system is a little disorganized and I wish something in the name would have alerted us shameless carnivores about the realities inside. It's the 2nd day of their grand opening. Just saw this spot getting shout out by IG vegans @Veganfatkid and @badassvegan. They got an awesome selection of food everything 100% plant based! Would go often if it was closer. It's a lil far from me, drove up from San Jose. I was eager to meet the stars that I arrived an hr hour then I ended up ordering food 10 mins before they showed up! I ordered the animal, beast of a burger and chili cheese sweet potato fries. The burger was so good and melted cheese on the fried were great as well. Sooooo I have to be honest here...I'm all for Vegan options/ Gluten Free food especially when you have the gluttonous Super Duper Burger literally in the same shopping plaza. Mind you, I eat both meat/ meatless meals so I'm not biased towards one or the other..I usually consume Vegan M-F (when training) and eat meat/ fish throughout the weekend (on my off days). Lets start with the line. Usually (even when busy) you will get to the front to order within 5-7 min. Not bad in my opinion and if you've never been (or tried Vegan) the staff is usually very helpful on preferences and what's popular at the moment. Another nice tidbit is about 90% of the ingredients are available in the adjoining 365 Whole Foods its connected too...so if you want to duplicate your own rendition, its possible (minus the House Sauce- which i'll address below) I've tried a mixed assortment of items (sans the Mushroom burger- allergic) but I'm very open with everything else. All the burgers are tasty (yes, they are smaller than what you'd expect in terms of price) but that gives you room for fries/ tater tots and a drink. My burger choice changes with my mood but one thing to immediately ask for is extra House Sauce. Its like a healthier version of McDonalds/ In N Out special sauce...(yeah we all know it favors thousand island dressing). I like to dip a bit before every bite and it enhances the little bit of dryness the burger may have..not a lot but its not "dripping" with juiciness. I also opt for the Vegan cheese..well worth the taste and texture if you're dairy free or just trying to lay off the fat/ cholesterol real cheese tends to provide. Anytime I get fries/ tots, its of the chili cheese variety. Again its a dryness factor for me..so it balances out in the end. The shakes? I've had the seasonal as well as the regular items on the menu and they are worth it. With a soy or coconut option, either doesn't taste bad. The ONLY reason I'm not rating this 5 Stars is simply the price point. Yes I've had Amy's in RP and yes its a bit of a drive...but from a price point perspective (especially portion size) Amy's wins. (shrug) You'll end up spending between $20-25 (entrée, side and drink) PER person depending on what you add onto your meal. Burgers alone after tax and add on's are $8-15 ish depending on what you order. I can spend $25-30 at Amy's and that's with 6+ comparable items. Yes, Amy's calories tend to be a bit on the high side, but still. Overall its a great option nonetheless. I come here when I'm not close to Amy's! read more

Personally as a meat eater I wouldn't think that this place would satisfy but wow. Let me be the first to tell you I love the BLTA . The Tempe bacon is actually really good and pare that with avocado um I think yes!!. Next thing I tried was the sausage bacon burger. (NOT SAUSAGE BY THE WAY) and I left out the Mayo and tomatoes and added jalapeno and yes yes yes it was so yummy not to mention the cheddar style cheese. My go to is tater tots but fried not baked just cus it takes about 6-7 minutes to bake em. 1- if you are looking for meat this is not the pace for you! 2- if your considering going vegan or vegetarian I would recommend this place as a must. 3- don't come here looking for a burger that is going to be JUST LIKE MEAT. Love this spot for an all vegan menu and a hearty burger. Savory meat patty- not a fan, the flavor isn't there for me and it doesn't taste real at all. It's not as good as the beyond burger which has good flavor but wasnt as pink as iv had one before. But I have to say the quinoa and mushroom patties are the best. They have great flavor and satisfies the burger craving somehow. The cheesy tots are to die for, and very closely resemble real cheddar melty cheese. Chili on them is also good. I only had them baked, not fried. The shakes are better with soy rather than coconut, which gives the shakes an overly sweet flavor and aftertaste, and you end up not tasting a difference between the chocolate and vanilla. We realized this when we tried to make the chocolate shake taste better with more vanilla mix. Soy peanut butter shake was awesome. Service is always slow, probably because we order the tots baked and not fried ;p and maybe vegan patties just take longer in general. shakes take a while due to the process. Sometimes drinks (including water) come out after food. But the place is always busy so that says a lot about the quality of the product, and there's no questions about what's vegan and what's not. We've continued to visit Next Level as it has great food. The food is slowly declining as is the service. We waited almost 20 minutes for our lunch during what seemed to be a quiet day. We were told the baked tots take longer. BTW we've ordered these 4x and have never been told this. The food finally arrived and guess what the tots were cool. Plus our "burgers" were cold. I was really excited to finally eat here. We ordered the sautéed kale, sausage bacon burger, and special sauce burger. Definitely do not get the kale unless you're some sort of masochist. It was barely seasoned and barely sautéed. Like a slightly warm kale salad with not nearly enough dressing and nothing but kale. Wow so bad. Most unfortunately went into the compost :( The meat patty on the special sauce burger had a super weird flavor. But man that sausage bacon burger with cheddar cheese was amazing.
