My home internet has been terrible for far too long and it's been frustrating trying to find something else..... the only thing that seemed like it would solve our problems was Starlink...: my husband wouldn't commit to helping me install it and wanted me to find someone who could do it and do it right! I poked around on the internet and I mainly ended up with random companies that were not "local" then I found Next Step Communications... I did their online form to get them to contact me and they did so basically instantly. The best part was that it was an actual person and not an automated system response. Jason & Ryan were on top of it and ready to help me however they could. I asked tons of questions and serval I probably asked serval times. My husband had some questions that I emailed them back and forth about. In no time it was evident that they were the ones that we wanted to install Starlink. The starlink equipment was ordered and the installation was scheduled. My starlink came sooner than expected and they adjusted their schedule to accommodate the early installation Their crew to install was two very nice guys who did a great job. Not only did they bring their booties to wear in the house but they literally had everything they needed in their vehicle. Ive had several different installers that have came to my home over the years and it usually stresses me out because they make an absolute mess and they have zero respect for your clean home and nice things. I hired Next Step to install runs of Cat 6 Ethernet cables throughout my home in Erie. When my wife and I moved here last year, I knew that we were going to need some proper networking installed to support our home offices and other needs throughout the house. I limped along on wireless bridges and MoCA adapters for several months before I got around to engaging with Next Step. They spent a day at my home working in the crawl spaces and attic to run the new cables and install the new jacks. My wiring needs ranged from relatively easy (a room right above a crawl space) to very difficult (an exterior wall in the finished basement), but somehow they managed to successfully install every jack that we discussed. (I'm still astounded that the basement jacks worked out!) I now have two Ethernet jacks in all the newly upgraded rooms, a central point for managing the wiring, and a much more pleasant home office situation due to being able to move some noisy/hot equipment elsewhere in the house. I also learned a few helpful things from talking with the Next Step folks, such as advice on using the I-joist knockouts in my utility room for managing cable routing. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'll certainly keep Next Step in mind for future projects. read more

Simply put, Next Step has been great. During the quote, we discussed exactly what I wanted and Jason and his team delivered. Next Step installed four PoE cameras at my residence, ran all the wiring and performed the initial setup of my NVR and gave me the initial crash course on how to operate. During the installation, one of the specialty cameras was mistakenly dropped and broken, however, in order to make sure I wasn't left with any blind spots, Jason installed a temporary camera and then followed up the next day and replaced it. Up front, I'm going to tell you I haven't had them do the work yet. Ryan just came and gave me an estimate. I met with a few people from these type of companies. Ryan was far and away the most professional and personable. He possesses a wealth of information and I didn't ask him a single question he couldn't answer. I'll let you know how it goes after they do the work. Will they lose stars or maintain The Big 5 from me.... The man they sent to actually do the work didn't know how to put up their own mount with an extending arm. He had to call one of the owners to do the job. They talked me in to buying their sound bar instead of purchasing my own which I wanted to do. I called Jason to say I was unhappy with the sound and he told me it was because of my price range. You gotta be kidding me. I bought the TV myself. I was only paying them for the TV mount, sound bar and labor. The bill was more more than $700 and I have really awful sound. That's ridiculous. Jason and his team came to our home in a pinch and got us back up and working with a system (unifi dreamrouter) that is right intune with myself (average amateur IT tinkerer) but out-of-site, out-of-mind clean look perfect for my wife. They provided just enough for what we need, but perfect opened for future expansion. Fast, clean install. My wife even pointed out the cable management vs mine (which isn't much). I was honestly blown away with Next-Step start to finish. Since I'm aiming this at their potential customers and not them, here's what you need to know: I hired them to do network cabling, a network rack and switch installation, access point installation and configuration, and security camera/dvr installation and configuration. Jason came out and did the initial walk through and consultation for free (which if anyone is charging you for that, move on) and was the only contractor I talked to (of four total) that actually laid out his plan for running cables throughout my finished home. He had a plan A and a plan B (we ended up needing B so I'm glad he had thought about it) and when they left the house looked cosmetically untouched save for a hole in the drywall in my garage. The cameras were mounted well and the best part of the job was the setup that Next Step did configuring the switch for the network and the camera system. Even though we did a little walk through once they were done showing me how to log into everything, they sent a follow up email and gave me all the information i'll ever need to take care of the system on my own. And that's all great, but it's what I paid for. The best part of this company is how they handled their biggest mistake. About halfway through the first day, I lost power on one side of my living room. When it didn't come back on after about an hour I let one of the guys working know and he immediately stopped waht he was doing and got Jason and they began to troubleshoot. When it became apparent there was some electrical problem, Jason wisely triaged the situation and said either he could call an electrician or I could call mine and he and his team would get back to work and circle back once an electrician found the problem. I got in touch with mine first, and he came out and spent several hours before learning that Next Step had accidentally clipped the very edge of a wire when they drilled for the camera by my front door. Before Jason left with my payment for the work, he helped the electrician get everything repaired and then he reimbursed me in full for the cost of the electrician without any question. Efficiency, integrity, and quality are rare to find together, but you'll find them here. read more

The work included all the physical installation and software installation/configuration, and training on how to use the software. They began with a site audit to determine the best solution to fit our needs.
