Savannah Banana Baseball at Neyland Stadium, nothing quite like watching a baseball game with over 100,000 fans, and that's exactly what we did on May 23rd. I'm a huge baseball fan, but as a true fan, I had my concerns on this one. So maybe this doesn't work for the baseball purist, but for the casual fan, for the kids, this is most akin to the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball. There's a lot of slapstick humor stuff, but there are no dull moments and there is something going on every moment you are in attendance. Quite honestly, as a former player, some of the tricks even leave me scratching my head. It's action packed entertainment from beginning to end, and there's even a little baseball played as well. The Big Orange Temple of the Vols football program at University of Tennessee- Knoxville! Originally a stadium with open ends, the current facility has evolved into a bowl arrangement with semi-steep sides all around, with a capacity of roughly 102,000 people. This makes it one of the biggest college sports facilities in the United States. And boy, let me tell you it gets LOUD! Special treat, when the band plays and the fans sing Rocky Top. It is absolutely a must do SEC sports experience. read more

My spouse and I attended not only our first Savannah Banana baseball game but our fist time inside Neyland Stadium. The game was very entertaining and popular for all age levels. The pros about the stadium was the closed captioning on two locations during the game. I would have liked to seen the captioning to begin when introductions began but still grateful that this was present. We didn't appreciate being misled that a shuttle service was available for those parking in the G7 garage. We had to walk over 1 mile to and from the stadium. We entered from gate 22 as was recommended but it felt like we were sardines slowly moving to find our seats. I wished the seats were individual instead of a metal bench with backs as my body had a hard time being comfortable. There were plenty of drink and food vendors but the cost was ridiculous. We stuck with bottled water and shared a pretzel. However, a hotdog with nothing on it was $16. I loved the merch tents and did purchase a shirt and hat for summer use. Overall it was an enjoyable evening but it will be our last game. Be sure to dress comfortably, wear walking shoes and even eat a meal outside of the stadium before arriving. A plus is we left a bit early to avoid crowds and easily exited the parking garage onto I-40. Thanks! read more

A CLASSIC COLLEGE STADIUM!!! My only recommendation is do not get too drunk if your seats are on second level as those stairs are STEAP! We were a few rows up and I felt like I was looking straight down so I can't even imagine being any higher. Even though the Vols were playing a no name team the energy was great and the fans showed up. This was my first experience at a college football game other than my own and my standards were exceeded. A top tier venue for sure. It's huge! I've attended several games here. It's always as good a it looks on TV. I do have a couple of complaints. Parking is insane, like most college campus stadiums. The seats are packed in so closely that people trying to get to the aisle to visit the loo, or enjoy a short and fast line at the concessions, must get pretty intimate with their seat neighbors. The upper deck is brutal. Miss me with those tickets! If you can get just under the overhang, though, you can have shelter from the elements even if you have an obstructed view. There are, literally, seats placed behind huge concrete supports and I've had tickets there. Had to laugh. Despite all of that, it's amazing. The amenities, including concessions and restroom facilities, are fast and easy. The stadium hosts the university's traditions and team with style. I love the VOLS, but my first love is the Crimson and Cream. I have to say that Knoxville has been very hospitable to my friends from Norman, Oklahoma. If you get the chance, go to a game here. If you like SEC football, put this one on your list. The whole area around Knoxville is gorgeous. Neyland Stadium is one of the loudest places I've been. (Although they tend to get quiet when losing! I have never been to a facility that lacks the alcohol capacity as Neyland stadium. The ratio of sales to crowd is significantly low. Portable beer tubs would increase sales and profit. To travel across North America to stand in a beer line is a huge disappointment and terrible experience at Neyland. There were many options to increase the experience for the crowd it was completely missed and let down. read more

As part of our tradition to visit a different SEC school each year to cheer on the Kentucky Wildcats, we made our way to Neyland Stadium in Knoxville for the Blackout game--a 7:45 pm kickoff under the lights. It was a guys' trip full of rivalry vibes, and Neyland did not disappoint when it came to atmosphere and production. First off, the fans were exactly what you'd expect in a heated SEC matchup. Sure, we got a few middle fingers and had to deal with the occasional drunk college "bro" trying to puff his chest, nothing we couldn't handle as seasoned Wildcats fans. I won't let that deter the majority of Vol fans that were welcoming us to Knoxville and having some friendly conversations. It was all just passionate fan energy all around. What really stood out--and I've got to give props here--was the level of production Neyland puts on for its fans. From the pregame show to the stadium lighting and coordinated crowd energy, it's clear Tennessee knows how to create a big-time college football experience. Bravo, Volunteers. The one downside is the seating. Most of the stadium is bench seating, which means things are tight. Sitting in the visitors sections with a bunch of other Wildcat fans was no problem by me! By the time everyone packs in, you'll definitely be getting to know your neighbors whether you want to or not. Still, the excitement of the game had us standing the majority of the time anyway. All in all, Neyland Stadium is a must-visit for any SEC fan. The crowd, the energy, and the production make it one of the best environments for college football. Just be ready to squeeze into your spot and bring your A-game for some friendly banter with the Vols faithful! I've been all over the SEC and have a lot to compare the Tennessee game-day experience to. This is the most split I have ever been. Great alumni! I had friendly football-focused conversations with more Tennessee fans than I could count, folks who went out of their way to be friendly to an extent that very few venues have matched. Loved the band playing Rocky Top, and I don't mind admitting that I sang along! Great, loud college football environment during the game. And the orange-and-white checkerboard was really cool. Having said that, any honest description of a visiting fan's experience has to call out the students. You would think it's their patriotic duty to say something profane and derogatory to every passing visitor. When a 22-year-old girl walking by herself gets told "go f--- yourself" by an orange-clad fan, THERE IS A PROBLEM. Yes that is the worst example I witnessed, but there were plenty of others. The kids are like that everywhere, you say? Nope - I've been to 14 of the 16 2024 SEC schools, and I can promise you that the upper tier aren't like that. read more

There is no denying the magic of a TN home football game. The energy is electric and even non-sports fans will get sucked into the atmosphere and leave with the "Rocky Top" tune engrained in their memory. The plane flyovers and fireworks are super fun and the digital boards, banner, and VOLS lettering add to the fun. The bad? Whew...those concourses are far too narrow to accommodate the hordes of people. The stadium fits 100k and has a small walkway to navigate to each section AND dining (and the lines for dining) on either side of that same walkway. The metal benches for seating and no leg room to speak of aren't the most comfortable, but I will say that the strangers sitting next to you(inevitably touching your leg, back, etc) seem like family members by end of game. ;-) We thought the food and drink pricing was pretty standard for a stadium and the lines to get into the stadium moves very quickly (not the lines in the concourse, though). In addition, the stadium could use some major updates of the sound system and of the stadium finishes. It looks like a prison with dirty cinder block everywhere and poorly lacking signage. Our most recent game, we sat in the upper bowl (GG) and could not figure out how to get up there. Two different staff members gave us inaccurate instructions as to how to get up to our section. With multiple young kids and disorganized chaos, it was pretty frustrating. We ended up walking up a ton of stairs through the student section...an adventure with lots of little legs and rowdy teens. Ha! And the rows were so incredibly long in our section with a dead end on the side near the suites, so there were an insane amount of people who continuously needed to get past our aisle seats. A few reminders/tips: -remember the clear bag policy (even for diaper bags). I believe it can be as big as 12x6x12. -easiest parking were the free garages in Market Square or State Street. $10 per person and the shuttle bus leaves from the park across from Market Square. They only leave mid-3rd quarter or after...depends on when it fills up read more

The East Club Level seating inside of NEYLAND Stadium is an excellent space for dining and watching other games before kick-off. It is a shame that the best views of the river and of the Hill have been taken over and blocked off from the patrons who so graciously pay each year for the use of the space. When the club level first opened, patrons had a wonderful view of the Hill and of the Tennessee River at either end of the East Club level. It would be nice if the athletic department would return those spaces back to the patrons for viewing. Enjoy my "pauper's guide to Neyland." A couple decades of enjoying the Vols without touching the nest egg. We'll use this handy-dandy decision matrix to plan the experience. Decision matrix #1: spring for that 50 yard line seat, nosebleed, or happy medium. Answer, what do you think since I'm writing the "pauper's guide" not the "pauper who just hit the lotto's guide". We'll go with the online ticket app aftermarket for a safe bet, but also you can find some good scalped choices all over. Like that one time we scored YY seats "in the dry" $20/pair, or the free tickets for Vandy, or $15/ea this year. This is about the whole experience, and since it's a good seat everywhere why mortgage the farm? I'm all about the deal, and still kick myself for not taking the free halftime tickets in the rain we passed up for the '98 Arkansas game... ("Oh my goodness he dropped the football...he stumbled and fumbled!") Enough memory lane. Decision matrix #2: You'll need to park unless you're one of those "live on campus" types--so spend $50, spend $10, spend $0? Hmmm okay I'll go with $50 just kidding. We'll need to balance that parking spot price with Griswold planning skills to be first out postgame. Part art, part skill, part maps app, thankfully Fort Sanders is safer than the old days for some $10-15 gems. *Tip: check out Summit Hill Drive for night games to score some FREE road spots. Quick jaunt over some walking bridges will put you at Neyland in about 20 mins which sounds worse than it is. Decision matrix #3: eat inside, before, or after. "I think...both". Hit the Cumberland Ave strip for that exclusive typical college gameday long wait. Or stop 5 mins away for as good as it gets, not on campus. For those inclined to eat inside the hallowed Neyland halls, breaking news: now 68% more beer sales areas! That's right all you stadiums with only 67% more beer spots--we're killing it with 68! Reminiscent of those '68 Vols that went 8-2-1 and other stuff! Okay, better have some carbs with that drink: just know you're *not* getting filet mignon, but for filet mignon prices. I'm biased because I'm a UT alum but Neyland Stadium is one of the best college football stadiums in America. You can't beat SEC football on an autumn afternoon with over 100,000 people singing Rocky Top. Truly nothing like it. The energy cannot be beat. Knoxville is a great city to visit and a game day here is something I encourage every college football fan to experience. From what I understand, they're in the process of renovating multiple areas of the stadium. They've completed a couple phases of the project but it will take years before everything is complete. The biggest issue for me are the narrow concourses but the stadium is old and the university of aware of what needs improved. I was most recently in town for a game in October 2023 and we had a great time. The game was sold out but we got in and out fairly quickly. If you don't know Rocky Top before going to a game, you'll know it by the end! I enjoyed watching 4 football seasons as a student and will continue to come back for games to cheer on my alma mater! Neyland Stadium and the UT Vols represent to me SEC football in all it's guts and glory! I went to college at a school where football wasn't big and so it is seriously amazing to go to a game here and is something that all football fans should come see. We came for a game against East Tennessee State University (ETSU) so it was not a huge rivalry game and of course the Vols stomped them (I've been told when it is Florida or Georgia they are playing it is so loud at times all you can hear is static). However, the energy was great still and the fans are absolutely so into it. There are some pros/cons of this experience: Pros: -The Vol Walk is where fans line up on the streets surrounding Neyland Stadium and they have the marching band and the football players walk by into the stadium. Great for little kids who are excited to see the big football players -Concessions were good. They sell souvenir collectible cups that we got with our drinks and we tried their buffalo chicken/fries and their chili which was all good -Staff were friendly and efficient -The fan experience is so much fun. From singing Rocky Top in a sea of orange to watching the marching band at halftime and the dog Smoky it is a blast Cons: -Stadium has very little shade. Wear sunscreen! -Bleachers are uncomfortable but to be expected at any football stadium. They really pack people in like sardines -Parking can be a bit hard to navigate as there are so many lots and people tailgating everywhere Overall, just an amazing experience. I've been all over this country, seen all sorts of teams play in many a stadium, but there is no better place to be a fan than at Neyland Stadium. Literally can make or break a game, as we've seen in this 2019 season. Whenever someone comes here to Knoxville, there is a short list of things one must do. Big Ears is the only other thing, than coming to a UT home game, that I think folks should actually build a trip around a specific date / event. Sure, seeing downtown from the Sunsphere is a must, and a unique thing to do. But seeing a home game, when the crowd is literally on it's feet, screaming at a level that they'll be horse for almost a full week, is...magical. read more

We took a trip down in Knoxville a couple months back and just wanted to explore the nice city and it was much nicer and I was expecting we had a really good time and when I'm in cities I like to stop by there's local stadiums and visit say I've been there check it off the list look at all the stuff since I'm a big football fan I had to hit up Neyland stadium. I was at the stadium today and realized I'd never reviewed it! Better late than never I guess. I really like this stadium as it's easy to get around and is always clean at the start of a game. People leave this place a pig sty so kudos to the clean up crew! I've sat in the nosebleeds, in a suite, in the Terrace, behind the goal posts, under the overhang... everywhere really.. and I don't think there is a bad seat. My preference is to sit where I can see the Jumbotron but honestly you can see the field great from anywhere. If you get season tickets there are also quite a few perks, and the donation varies depending on location so there is something affordable for everyone. Parking is a bear so always get there a few hours early if you hope to not walk for miles. Also, try the Smokey Dog cause it's yummy. read more

To experience a true Tennessee Volunteer game you must get to the stadium at least 2:30 to 3 hours before the game. Then you find a good spot along Peyton Manning drive and wait for the Vol Walk that happens about 2 hours before the game. Later the Tennessee Band will have a march into the Stadium So much to see and take in for the game. It will always mean so much more for a true Tennessee fan than anyone from another team or state. But if you ever in the stadium before the gates open you can see even more. When you play the lesser teams that come here for the first time, they will walk out as soon as their bus arrives and before the gates open. They walk big eyes to the center of the field and kneel and pray, they take pictures and one of their dreams is happening. Playing in a big time play, one with history and glory. Only most will leave wishing they could get " Old Rocky Top" out of their head and ears. Some come close. Enjoy the Vols experience. read more

I came here on November 18th, 2017 for the Tennessee vs LSU game to see my Tigers play. I usually grade baseball stadiums in 4 categories: Architecture, Food, Fan Base and a category I call "Other", so I figured I'd do the same with this one. Architecture: The stadium is one of the bigger ones in the country as it seats over 100,000 fans. The layout seemed like there wasn't a bad viewing spot in the house. The seats are all stadium style and they don't give you a lot of shoulder space so if you are the average SEC sized fan, you may feel like you are in the middle seat on an airplane between two sumo wrestlers. Season ticket holders are given a cushioned seat which makes it much more comfortable. Luckily I was sold 2 seats under the awning with a cushion from a local fan who couldn't stomach to watch his Vols any more this season. (They had a bad season if you didn't figure it out already). These seats proved to be perfect because there was basically a typhoon in the stadium after the 1st quarter. The concourses were kind of crappy and dark making it feel like a high school stadium on the inside. Could use some upgrades in that area. The orange and white checkerboard end zones are classic. Fan Base: Loyal, respectful, friendly, passionate, and realistic. They cheered on their team even though they had no real hope. They stayed in bad weather to watch their team despite being winless in SEC play. But they also sold a ton of their seats to LSU fans as there had to be 20,000+ Tiger fans in the stadium. They sang Rocky Top so much that I still hear it in my sleep. " Good ole Rocky Top......WOOOOOOOOO...." Food: I have no idea to be honest. We brought our own for tailgating but the concessions seemed to be of the crappy variety from what I saw. Other: Tailgating spots out front were plentiful and full of people. It was a mix of Tennessee and LSU peeps and fun was had by all. We got there around 9am for a 7pm start time, we drank, cooked and ate to our hearts content. There's a statue of General Neyland out front for a great photo op and the bands entrance going into the stadium is a fun tradition. I had a great time in Neyland Stadium despite some terrible weather. Great fans, fun atmosphere and my Tigers won. Geaux Tigers! read more

When a horse is on a ship sailing to the new world, and it spies land, it says "Neigh! Land! Neigh! Land!" And that's what this stadium was named after because of course Knoxville is a famous sea port. Or... I've never had a good concert in Knoxville, in fact it's just been one awful concert after another. Once I visited this stadium I realized why. Because everyone and their mother is in this stadium instead of at my show! It's an absolute palace, it's enormous, I won't say it's bigger than my thingy but it's close. And it's bright orange which is super exciting too. First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - the first time I came to Knox I skipped this stadium. That was a mistake. The second time, I did not skip it, and realized that Knoxville somehow has one of the top 5 college football stadiums in the entire country. It. Is. Amazing. It's huge, it has the most intense loud noise of the packed crowd you can imagine, and it is by far the highlight of Knoxville, TN. If you like stadiums, do not miss coming to see this one. I was here in 2013 (and several times before) and will be visiting again in the next 12 months, for sure. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. When you have a chance to call Neyland Stadium your Home Base, consider yourself one lucky person. Nothing beats the fun of a Saturday Football Game in one of the greatest stadiums in the United States! First off the atmosphere is the best. Being surrounded by 100,000 plus people chanting Rocky Top is one of the best feelings in the World! Even when we lost to Florida last week, the fans were still great by shouting, "Go VOLS!" The facilities are pretty clean. There are a lot of bathrooms so the lines move pretty quick. If you forgot some Vol Gear, you can expect some retail spots in the stadium. The food is pretty good. I love to get the TN classic of a Petro. Crunch fritos and chili are a staple for any fall game! Love this place! read more

Favorite away trip in the SEC, and my 2nd favorite all time away trip after Arizona St. This is even after a friend got arrested for public intoxication after the game. Attended the 2006 LSU vs Tennessee game. In true Les Miles form, another late 4th qtr come from behind victory. I can't really say anything really stood out in regards to Neyland Stadium itself. It does have the nice backdrop of the Tennessee River. The tailgating was only so-so and probably on par with Florida, and below the level of Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn. It might have something to do with the hills around the stadium? Obviously at 100K + it's a massive stadium, and the sheer look of a mass of orange is impressive. It was also neat to see the Power T forming and checkerboard endzones, and Rocky Top for the 1st time...not so much after the 9999th time at the end of the game. From a loudness level, it's for sure a step below Florida and around the level of Alabama and Auburn. Props to the Pride of the Southland for playing "Fight for LSU" pregame. read more

How do you review a stadium? The restrooms were clean. The seats were uncomfortable but they're aluminum planks. Thank goodness for the padded accessory seats paid for bu the ticket owner, but the knee in my back the whole game due to lack of legroom was distracting. The pretzel that looked so good in the person in front's hands was not nearly as good as the one I ate. It's a good thing we had the cheese sauce. My hot dog was better than the pretzel, but not much. Oh and the $4 small cup of Diet Coke was pretty irritating. But overall, I had a GREAT TIME at the Vols Homecoming game. So the stadium gets a 2, but the game gets a 20!!!!!! read more

Visiting fan's perspective. Stadium is large and electric. Great game atmosphere. Also love the location on the river and the Vol navy. Neyland is in the top half of SEC game day experiences. For the most part, the Vol fans are very friendly. You do run into an ass every now and then but it is to be expected. Now on to the negative. Parking is a pain in the ass. If possible, get a hotel in downtown close to the stadium and walk. Tailgating is fragmented as hell. This is an urban area and parking and tailgating is occurring in fragments all over the place. Traffic is a major suck. See my "get a hotel close by" advice above. The upper deck seating is awful. There is barely enough room for you to park your ass and your knees will be in the back of the person sitting in front of you. Try not to get up and go to the restroom or concessions because it is a major ordeal to get people to get up and move. I think they undersized the seating to fit as many lard ass Tennessee fans into the stands as possible. If you are big into college football then at least go once. I plan to be back in 2015 to watch my team curb stomp the Volunteers. read more

Parking can be tricky without a pass. Come early to enjoy the Vol walk and the tailgating atmosphere. Pay attention to the gate listed on your ticket so you can enter closest to your seat. Clear bags or very small clutches ONLY are allowed. You can not re-enter once you leave. read more

The bomb.com! Currently the third largest stadium in the nation and it's all about the Vols baby. What more can I say. There's a lot of walking around here in this place is ever-changing with construction so it's hard to give a total review. If you are able to get the Skybox seats these are definitely the best. And stay away from gate 21A. That is the tourist trap gate and all other Gates around it will be much easier to do. If you're looking from the main entrance out there's a student union right across the street to the right of you or you can get some Chick-fil-A Panda Express in other places like that for a little cheaper food than inside. So I am sitting here for graduation and it's terribly boring. The ushers are taking forever to line students up. The air is on and it's 60 degrees outside so we are ruining the planet even more through that. There is no hot dogs or Petro's or Dunkin' or popcorn for that matter and it's going to take 4 hours at this rate. There's not even water. We have Chick-fil-A waiting for us at the apartment. Do not recommend graduation. read more

Terrible place to visit (I think that is what they are going for). We had many great trips here but this last one was not like the others.
