The golf shop staff were shockingly unprofessional. Rude, dismissive, and openly negative from the moment I walked in. Golf is supposed to be welcoming even municipal courses understand that but these two employees acted as though their goal was to sour the day of anyone unfortunate enough to interact with them. Every single time I have walked in these two bearded guys in there sit there and do nothing all day and are jerks to every person walking in. Even kids excited to play golf. Their demeanor was hostile for no reason, and the strong smell of alcohol only added to the discomfort. No guest should ever feel unwelcome at a public course they're paying to enjoy. The facilities were equally disappointing. The bathroom was beyond unacceptable dirty, neglected, and clearly not maintained with any regularity. It honestly looked like it hadn't been properly cleaned in years. This alone reflects a serious lack of pride and oversight. Even something as simple as parking was ignored. Leaves and debris everywhere. A quick blow-through would take minutes, yet the neglect is obvious. These are basic standards, not luxuries. Mounds and mounds. What makes this especially frustrating is that the course itself has real potential. The layout and location could make this a fantastic municipal golf destination. But that potential is completely undermined by careless maintenance and, more importantly, staff who seem to actively dislike the people keeping the course in business. This review isn't written out of spite it's written out of disappointment. With the right leadership, accountability, and staff who understand basic professionalism, this place could be great. Until then, be prepared for an experience that feels less like a relaxing round of golf and more like an unnecessary headache. Charleston deserves better from its public courses.

Service at the clubhouse and bag drop was excellent and friendly. I do wish that the carts had GPS, but other than that, they ran smoothly. Cart paths could use a little bit of work, but being an ocean course, I can understand why it's not a priority. Tidal flooding, rain, wind, salt air, etc can really do some damage to a course. I donated a few balls to the water hazards. Not a lot of woods to lose balls in, so that was good. Overall a really great day of golf with my dad.

If you are staying downtown it's only a 10 minute drive away and really only the course that's as close to downtown (aside from the muni). The grass is cut so well, every ball on the fairways looks to be sitting upon a pool table, you can see the entire ball. The backside of The River stating with 16, a spectacular par 5 to another beauty the par 3 17th, hitting a small quick green, with the intercoastal water way as the back drop. Big improvements the no-so good news is green fees have increased and " dynamic" pricing software has been installed. this is what airlines use to max out revenue as seats fill up. not consumer friendly. in this case you may not know what the greens fees will be until you arrive. finally, the Bermuda rough and greens collars are high. lots of lost balls and time spent looking. this may be a result of not being able to mow on a regular schedule due to wet weather. if it is a permanent ( new) feature, it will result in a slower and more difficult round. The grill is very good with a good menu and reasonable selection of draft beers.

My sticking points are the continued slow play and no Marshall to manage it, waiting 10-15 minutes every hole to tee off is a bit much with a 5 hour plus round of golf not good. Then the second sticking point is letting the cart lady leave at 5 pm sucks our group was ready to drink and on a Saturday when the Marshall knows play is 45 minutes behind, we only got 1 drink and never saw her again! The 18 hole "Ralston Creek" is an exciting 18 hole regulation course, where you need to step up your game a notch, if not these 2 courses will cut you in half.. From the longest tees, the course plays to about 7,446 yards of golf for a par of 72, that my friends is about current U.S.OPEN length, with a lower slope rating though.course rating is 74.4 with a slope rating of 134. The Nationwide tour still hosts an event here and truthfully, if there were the room for bleachers, concessions and transportation. With a few weeks work to narrow the fairways and toughen up the greens, I believe the PGA could host an event here, it is that good.The course was designed by Rees Jones and opened in 2006. The 18-hole "Beresford Creek" course at the Daniel Island Club features 7,093 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 . This is the older of the two courses and opened around 2000.The course rating at Beresford Creek is 74.4 and it has a slope rating of 134, so it plays shorter, but no less difficult.

I love the golf course and have been saddened because of a torn rotator cuff, which thankfully is healing. I miss my time on the course with my buddies. Rich allows us 2 tee times every Thursday in the early afternoon at a steep discount and I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate him and all he and his staff do for us. The course is challenging and always in immaculate condition. It is my favorite in the entire area. I was finally getting used to it and figuring my game out when I was injured, so it looks like I'm going to have to do that all over again. And I'm looking forward to it. A bad day on the golf course beats a good day pretty much anywhere else. My only complaint is that they have no hot dogs on the traveling snack cart. There are times when eating a hot dog is the best part of my game. Ha! When finished with a round I always go into the club and sit at the bar. I order a cheeseburger off their menu rather than the ones they send out on the course. I've never been disappointed, they're always delicious and the staff is friendly even though I'm not a member.
