An awesome event! Lots of fun activities for kids but long lines! There's water refill stations and lots of port a potties.

    Political statements.

If you're on the fence about heading down to the festivities or bringing the kiddos down, do as Nike says and "just do it." While the Parkway hasn't seen crowds like this since Made In America, Pope Francis' visit, and the 4th, it was surprisingly easy to maneuver around, safe, and there's a bunch of fun things for adults as well as the kiddos to do including FREE zip-lining (just less than an hour wait. Min weight 45lbs), Play 60 experience with obstacle course and chances to kick field goals, live music, marching bands, photo ops, and of course cheerleaders. I mean who doesn't love a pretty cheerleader? It's pup friendly also! There's only one entrance (on 22nd Street on the north side of the Parkway) and that's also the only exit. It was kind of annoying, but I guess that's the best way to keep everyone safe and control who enters. Expect bag checks and metal detector wands. The line went fairly quickly however. We were greeted with big smiles and welcoming words. The staff all seems pretty happy to be there but that was only day one. Haha With a little patience, parking isn't impossible but we did see a lot of Uber drivers readily available. The north side will be your best chance for a spot! It only took me three circles to find an unmetered spot! It's not a bad walk from Suburban Station and the closest subway stop is either Broad & Spring Garden and then Broad & Fairmount. There are water filling stations so bring those reusable bottles but they must be empty upon entering! There's Oikos yogurt samples, Tostitos pop up with tastings, Skittles samples, and a Bud Light two story bar "float" of sorts. Tony Lukes, Chickie & Petes, Nick's Roast Beef, Antney's Grub and DiBruno Brothers selling grub too. I would personally say skip the overpriced food (Chickies fries for $12 etc) unless it's something really special. I would recommend walking to one of the tasty restaurants in the Art Museum/Fairmount area. Little Pete's right there on Fairmount is super casual, inexpensive, and there's room for the kiddos to run around outside if they still have energy! Kids meals there are $5 or less. Other walkable options are Vetri Pizza, Bueno Onda for inexpensive tacos, Sabrina's, La Calaca Feliz which has a courtyard, Urban Saloon which is spacious and has some outdoor seating, Dim Sum & Noodle is very good. Bar Hygee is way cool and is also a brewery! And of course, Whole Foods pop up shops like Dizengoff and Wiz Kid! There's also Wawa right there for hoagies and picnicking! (All I mentioned are kid friendly by the way). If you want to venture a bit further out of the crowds but still not too far, Llama Tooth on Spring Garden has ample street parking, a great, chill courtyard, and reggae music. They usually have lots of open tables too. Sazon a bit further down has unique Venezuelan Ana some tables outside also. If you plan on staying awhile I would bring a portable charger or maybe swipe your phone onto airplane mode for a bit as batteries seems to drain fairly quickly with all that was going on. I did not personally see charging stations. The event app is helpful and has an interactive map but seemed to be a tad slow. We all had a great time! Lots of smiles and laughs, celeb sightings, a museum with Super Bowl rings, the Lombardi trophy, autographs opportunities, drafted player paintings by Mural Arts, live broadcasts, and football fans from all over the country! Play nice you guys! Lots of joking with other team fans but no violence was seen. I even heard one guy saying "Philly fans are a lot nicer here than at the games" haha All NFL teams were represented fairly, but make no mistake, the Philly love was felt. Rocky theme song and cheesesteaks were very much present. Supposedly this is the largest stage at any NFL Draft and it's only in recent years that it's been outdoors. Also, Philly hasn't hosted the draft since the first one ever back in the 30's. Kinda neat to have it here again!

The NFL Draft has so much to offer. There is a SuperBowl ring museum, Hall of fame, and other museums. There are mannequins throughout the park. There is a NFL Play 60 area for the kids that involve an obstacle course, kicking field goals, and passing the football. There was an autograph area. The food stands are endless. I went to Lula Bang Wings and there wings are awesome, but the bottle of water was pricey. Speaking of water, do not bring bottled water to the draft. They will throw it away. They had a parade with Swoop from the Eagles. It was like paradise. I wanted to stay all 3 days. Please check it out because it is only here for 3 days. I will return on Saturday for more fun.

I just went to a game last night, sadly a loss, but had the best time with my best friend who also loves getting to a Phil's game. Hard to beat the combination of crab fries, a few drinks, and BOGO dogs (RIP dollar dogs) along with sunny 60 degree weather. I've been to dozens of games at this point, so I'm very biased, but to me the stadium and games are well run, family friendly and an all around good time. My only complaint would be the concession prices. Especially for families it can be quite the expense to get food and beverages. In 89 seasons, the Eagles have been mediocre, to put it simply. In terms of all-time wins and losses, the team falls somewhere in the middle to bottom-half of the league. To their credit, of course, is the Super Bowl LII win in 2018 (2017 season). It was Philadelphia's first and so far only Super Bowl championship. Super Bowl LII was a memorable one. The Eagles were five-point underdogs to the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick New England Patriots dynasty. The Patriots won Super Bowls LI and LIII. Looking back, the Eagles ruined the Patriots' chances of threepeating (2017, 2018, 2019). Brady had just won his third regular season MVP award ahead of Super Bowl LII. Eagles backup QB, Nick Foles, ended up being the hero and MVP of Super Bowl LII. Carson Wentz started most of the Eagles' games that season. However, in Week 14, he tore an ACL and missed the rest of the season. Foles started the remaining three regular season games and all three postseason season games. He went 5-1 and led the team to the somewhat improbable championship. Foles was part of one of the top trick plays in NFL history, the Philly Special: https://youtu.be/YDG3_ewrOWg. Per NFL Films, it was "a play that the Eagles had never called before, run on fourth down by an undrafted rookie running back, pitching the football to a third-string tight end who had never attempted an NFL pass before, throwing to a backup quarterback who had never caught an NFL or college pass before, on the biggest stage for football." Eagles head coach Doug Pederson called the play. Pederson didn't stay in Philly long. Less than three years after winning the Super Bowl, he was fired after the Eagles went 4-11-1 (.281) in 2020. Pederson only coached the Eagles for five seasons (2016-2020). I know the Eagles best for the Andy Reid (1999-2012) and Donovan McNabb (1999-2010) years. In 14 seasons as head coach, Reid led the Eagles to nine postseason appearances including five NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl appearance. Coincidentally, that Super Bowl appearance, Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005 (2004 season), was a loss to the Brady-Belichick Patriots. Reid did finally win a Super Bowl as a head coach in 2020 (2019 season) when he coached the Kansas City Chiefs to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. My favorite team, the Atlanta Falcons, had a dual-threat QB rivalry going on in the early-to-mid 2000s. It was the Falcons' Mike Vick versus McNabb. An NFC rivalry, McNabb got the better of Vick in most of the head-to-head matchups. As a Falcons fan, the most painful loss in the rivalry was the 2005 NFC Championship Game (2004 season) in which the Eagles won at home, 27-10. A Falcons win would have had us in the Super Bowl for the first time since 1999 (1998 "Dirty Birds" season). I played the Falcons-Eagles rivalry a lot in Madden NFL 2004 on my PlayStation 2. Vick was on the cover of Madden that year. Funny enough, Vick joined McNabb as a backup on the Eagles in 2009. Vick started for the Eagles the following four seasons (2010-2013). He was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year for the 2010 season. I ran into McNabb in real life on a Sunday at the Masters. I think the year was 2016. From what I recall, he wore a shirt that had an advertisement on the back at the bottom.

In 2020, the Union advanced to the semifinals of the MLS is Back Tournament. The team then went on to win the 2020 Supporters' Shield for having the best regular season record, as determined by the MLS points system. The Union finished with 47 points on the season with a 14-4-5 record during the pandemic-shortened 23-game season. It's been a steady, consistent rise for the Union over the last four seasons under now seven-year head coach Jim Curtin. In 2017, the Union finished 16th out of 22 teams. In the years that followed, the Union finished 11th out of 23 teams, 5th out of 24 teams, and 1st out of 26 teams (2020). At this point, all that's missing is an MLS Cup win. Curtin has been head coach of the Union since June 2014. Brazilian forward Sergio Santos, who made his first appearance with the Union in 2019, led the team in goals (11) during the team's Shield-winning season. French forward/winger Sebastien Le Toux leads the time all-time in goals (57; 2010-2011, 2013-2016). The Union's home stadium is the 18,500-seat Subaru Park. The stadium was built for the Union and opened during the team's first season in 2010. It originally opened as PPL Park. Unlike Philly's other major pro sports teams' venues - the Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field, the Phillies' Citizens Bank Park, and the 76ers' Wells Fargo Center - Subaru Park is *not* located at the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Instead, it's about a 16-mile, 20-minute drive down I-95 South in the city of Chester, on the other side of the airport. Numerous pay parking lots surround Subaru Field. For a map, pricing, additional info, and to pre-pay and reserve parking in advance, visit https://www.philadelphiaunion.com/stadium/parking. I'm not sure whether to rate the Philadelphia 76ers three stars ("OK") or four stars ("Good") on…read moreYelp. I'll go with four because the Sixers have won three NBA championships (1955, 1967, 1983) and in recent decades, they've made the playoffs - and won - more often than not. The Sixers' three titles are tied for sixth-most among the NBA's 30 teams. The team is tied with the Detroit Pistons (1989, 1990, 2004) and the Miami Heat (2006, 2012, 2013). When I think of the Sixers, the first thing I think of is Allen Iverson and the 2001 NBA Finals. The Sixers drafted "the Answer" with the first overall pick in the 1996 draft. Iverson played 12 seasons as a Sixer and racked up many achievements. He was the NBA regular season MVP for the 2000-01 season. He also led the league in scoring four times: 1998-99, 2000-01, 2001-02, and 2004-05. Unfortunately, the Sixers lost, 4-1, to the Shaq-Kobe Los Angeles Lakers in the 2001 Finals. The Sixers had quite the team then, with Defensive Player of the Year Dikembe Mutombo, Sixth Man of the Year Aaron McKie, and Eric Snow as Iverson's top supporting cast. Raja Bell came off the bench to defend Kobe. Georgia Tech alum Matt Geiger contributed off the bench as well. Larry Brown won NBA Coach of the Year that year (2001). I'm not old enough to remember the Sixers' heyday in the early 80s with Moses Malone, Andrew Toney, "Dr. J" Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, and Bobby Jones. That team swept, 4-0, a Lakers team that featured Kareem Adbul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson, and was coached by Pat Riley. After the ABA-NBA merger prior to the 1976-77 season, Dr. J spent his entire NBA career in Philly (11 years). Dr. J's Sixers career overlapped with Charles Barkley's when the Sixers drafted "the Round Mound of Rebound" with the fifth overall pick in 1984. Dr. J retired after the 1986-87 season. Barkley was traded to the Phoenix Suns during the offseason in 1992. Post-Iverson, the Sixers have mostly been unmemorable. The team had two Rookies of the Year in a five-year span: Michael Carter-Williams in 2014 and Ben Simmons in 2018. The Sixers drafted Carter-Williams with the 11th overall pick in 2013 and Simmons with the first overall pick in 2016. Both players dealt with various injuries and didn't last long in Philly, with Carter-Williams being traded away in just his second season and Simmons in what should have been his fifth season. Simmons never played his true rookie season (2016-17) due to injury and he was a holdout during the 2021-22 season. Good luck to the Brooklyn Nets with Simmons. Joel Embiid, who was drafted by the Sixers with the third overall pick in 2014, is the best Sixers player of the last 10 years. However, even Embiid has been sidelined for many games due to various injuries. Now while Simmons missed what would have been his first season, Embiid missed what would have been his first *two* seasons (2014-15 and 2015-16). Embiid has yet to play more than 68 games in a single season. Despite that, he's earned numerous accolades including 2023 MVP (first Sixer to win the MVP award since Iverson in 2001), seven All-Star selections, and two scoring titles (2022, 2023). In terms of durability, I have to mention Andre Iguodala who was a very durable player for the Sixers. Iguodala was drafted by the Sixers with the ninth overall pick in 2004. He started all 82 games in five different seasons, including one season when he averaged almost 40 minutes per game. That sounds unheard of in today's NBA with "load management." They don't make players like they used to. Much respect to Iguodala in that regard. After being named an All-Star in his final season in Philly (2011-12), he went on to win four championships with the Golden State Warriors. He was an integral bench player for the Warriors. Finally, I have to give a shout-out to another Georgia Tech alum who played for the Sixers -- Thaddeus Young, who the Sixers drafted with the 12th overall pick in 2007. While he never developed into an All-Star, Thad had seven solid, productive seasons for the Sixers. His best NBA seasons arguably came in his last two years in Philly when he averaged highs in points (17.9), steals (2.1), and minutes (34.6) per game. Thad is one of only five players from the 2007 NBA Draft Class that is still playing in the NBA today: https://x.com/NBA/status/1795891978225279255
