A nice family owned Vietnamese place that also has Boba tea. Please note, it's more of a take-out place with just two tables in the same area that you order - not really a separate dining room. I've eaten there a few times and the food is definitely solid; I just wish some of the entrees for the money had a tiny bit more protein. Came back again for the chicken banh mi sandwich and to try the pho. I've been blessed with some of the best phos around NOVA and I would say the pho here is just okay. If you're looking for a pho fix around Charlottesville this would help satisfy that craving but wouldn't make it to my top in comparison to other pho places. First things first. Don't get 'restaurant' in your mind. Think instead of a takeaway with one table for two, and two tables for four. We arrived at about 4 PM on a Sunday afternoon and we had to wait for a table (BUT... a very kind couple got up from a four person table and exited early to make things better for us). Second, the traditional beef pho was superb, about as good as I've had outside SE Asia. Remarkable for Blue Ridge foothills of Virginia. Well worth a visit. Bahn mi sandwich was 3-4 stars relative to 5 star pho. Not a French baguette consistent with France's colonization of Vietnam and the emergence of the French-Vietnam fusion cuisine, but tasty. Give it a try, especially if you can sit there and enjoy the pho. (Based on this experience, I think I would have asked for an approach that our local restaurants allow. Namely, ask for the soup as broth that can be boiled at home, with the ingredients (beef or chicken or shrimp) uncooked on the side and same with uncooked mung beans, cilantro, etc., plus a side cup of hoisin sauce. That is, as takeaway with some cooking required at home. Boil the broth and cook the protein to the 165 F. degree level recommended by USDA, and serve with the sides and sauce to taste by each mate. That's a better approach than letting all the stuff get soaky as the hot broth cools down on the way home. This can be done at a hotel with a microwave and it will taste better than letting it cool down, unless you are very close by the restaurant.) Call and ask whether they will allow this approach before you try it. I have no idea whether they will allow this approach. Ăn ngon nhé! read more

Found this spot via a Reddit thread on best soup. I will say that the Pho is pretty good. Decent toppings, good quantity of beef slices, and a great spicy sauce to add to the broth. That said, the broth itself wasn't too flavorful. The sauce carried it completely, which wasn't bad but left me wanting something else. Will return though, as it hit most of the right notes. Only big knock is that I ordered Bubble tea with Oat Milk because I struggle with lactose. They rang it up with a receipt that doesn't actually say Oat Milk on it anywhere, so the kitchen had no idea. I ended up with real milk and a stomachache, but I could see that omission really messing someone's day up, especially if you're ordering to go and you have a serous dairy allergy. read more

This little restaurant is in a shopping center that I don't often visit but my son was asking for Pho on a Monday so we thought we would give it a try. There are a few tables inside so we decided to eat there but it looks like they do most of their business as takeout. The bowl of pho was large so we shared it and they kindly brought out a small bowl so we could split it up. We got rare beef & meatballs and the flavor was good, we also shared some gyoza which was delicious. We enjoyed our meal and we will definitely be coming back again. I really wanted to love this place, especially with it rated over 4 stars. I saw pictures of the Bun Bo Hue Spicy Noodle Soup online and instantly wanted to try it. I'm no expert on Pho by any means but this soup had almost no flavor at all. It was basically just a water base and completely lacked the meat broth flavor I was expecting. I ordered the fresh wrappers and a vegetarian pho . Total cost 26 dollars ! At a grubby take and go place . Almost authentic average Vietnamese restaurant. Taste is derived from ingredients with much salt (fish sauce). Meals compensate for low protein portions with abundant rice and fresh vegetables. I spent time traveling Vietnam exploring the food culture. Protein is scarce in restaurant servings which is expected in a less abundant economy. Higher end establishments serve larger protein portions because they can charge appropriately. This place has ridiculous high prices and low protein portions. $17 (with tax) for bowl of pho with 1 food service grade meatball and 1 slice of oxtail. The best Vietnam food is prepared on the streets. I might go back. Reminds me of Vietnam. read more

I honestly am struggling on how many stars to give. Service was great. had the pho noodle soup and my husband had bulgogi rice plate. The pho was fresh and there was plenty of protein. However, I felt like the broth lacked aromatics in both smell and taste. The fish sauce given was the true carrier in any flavor that was in the soup. It smelled and tasted like plain beef broth without any additions. My meat was put in the broth which I personally despise because I feel like it toughens the meat up. My husband has spent a lot of time in East Asia and has had his fair share of bulgogi especially in hole in the wall eateries. He said that he thought his meal would've been better if it were fresh, but said it was "nothing special". read more
