Not really a review, just a report about Dipson Amherst Theatre's Secret Cinema, for Tuesday June…read more9, 2026. Because I've gone to Regal's Monday Mystery Movie a few times, I thought I'd compare the two events. IDK when the next Mystery Movie will be, but last night the next Secret Cinema was said to be scheduled for July 14. That would be Bastille Day, if I'm not mistaken, so maybe the movie will be an old French film, or something set in France. Maybe The Pink Panther. No way to know in advance. I did find out on June 8 that Secret Cinema does not show new movies, but went anyway. (The TCM channel is one of my favorites.) Last night The Wizard of Oz was shown on the big screen, after a short talk about the film. Tickets for Secret Cinema are $10 and concessions are half price. Or maybe that's just for popcorn. I'm not sure because all I got to drink was a 20oz bottle of Aquafina, which was $5.50. If you enjoy old movies, "old" being anything from vintage to classic, you will want to check out Dipson Amherst's Secret Cinema. Always a Tuesday night.

There's…read moresomething about watching a movie under the stars that brings so much nostalgia and creates a cozy experience you just can't get at a regular theater. I came for retro night and watched Grease and Dirty Dancing (not advertised on the sign, but if you know, you know). I grabbed some popcorn and nachos from the Starlight Concession Stand and just enjoyed the whole experience. I didn't find the bathroom, but honestly it wasn't a big deal and didn't take away from the night. If you've never been to a drive-in theater, I highly recommend going. It's such a fun experience and something worth keeping around.

Employees were nice, but we did get the incorrect directions...mistakes happen though! We got directed back into the right area. So no worries. Snack bar was very cool. Loved the decoration. The staff person who took our order though was not very polite...they looked/acted miserable to say the least. Overall, staff is either great or mediocre. Anyways--Popcorn was good! I love how you can put butter on yourself! When we were chatting while waiting for the movie to start, we overheard a slur from people walking behind us...not directed at us but, "no vulgar language" is a rule here...apparently. I DO NOT recommend this place if you have a vehicle that can't withstand bumpy terrain, or you own a lowered car. Rocks fly all over too...so expect you might get chips in your car paint. To end it off--The no smoking policy is ridiculous...especially when it includes vaping. If you're in your own vehicle, I don't see why you can't smoke. Especially, if there's no cars in spaces next to you--it IS outside after all. Making people go smoke in designated areas is pretty shameful. Also the areas to smoke in are close to where some cars park...I don't understand the logic there.

I've been trying to get into seeing more theater lately, and my visit has only confirmed my thirst…read more It had been about a decade since I visited to see Peter Pan, which I had recalled mostly fondly, so I texted a friend and bought tickets for the show. We arrived about half an hour early after stopping at Lake Effect for scoops. Who needs dinner and a show when tummy ice cream is involved? The theater also sells snacks as food and drinks from the outside are banned. We were greeted outside by a dapper gentleman who held the door for us to get into the lobby. Unlike other theaters, there was elbow room to have them check out printed tickets and make conversation about the show. Others had digital tickets that seemed to work as well. We popped into the loo, which thankfully had multiple stalls, hardly any wait and was fully stocked with soap and towels. There were people selling souvenir toys and raffle tickets that we bypassed to find our seats. The playbill girl gave us a rough estimate of where we would be located. Thankfully everything is clearly labeled as to not get lost. For a mere 40 each, after fees, we were five rows back, centered. The view was clear, the sound was clear and the leg room- my gosh. For the first time in a long time a theater had room for me to stretch my legs a bit instead of cramming in more seats. The view is historically gorgeous in architecture and paint. Though we were there to experience the show, not just a building. The show started on time, held a brief intermission and concluded in about two hours. During that time, we got wowed by talented singers, very acrobatic dancers and mostly talented actors. (There was one that we would have probably chosen a different person to portray the roll, but I'm not going to crush a child's dreams when they did adequately. And others filled their rolls amazingly so I'm chalking it up to personal preference.) The costumes are well constructed without being extravagant. Tiny shorts cover any areas that would make this child friendly show receive an R rating. At the end, after all the standing ovations, we were able to exit with ease and get back to the car, parked at no cost in a nearby lot. Beat that Buffalo parking. Extra shout-out to whoever put the dual drummers in the loge to let us see the masterminds at work. They were the heartbeat of the show for me!

Generations will have lost the original experience. (Watch movie "The Good-bye Girl" and Richard Dreyfus' performance of Richard the Third and how degrading he felt his role was!). Slapstick Comedy..not worthy of Shakespeare's works.

It was clear by the turnout that it is a popular event in the area. We brought a blanket and picnic and got there right on time while still being able to find a good place to sit. The most difficult part was finding decent parking. We had to park about a 10-min walk away, so be prepared!

We recently came to see Or, and had a great experience from the moment we arrived. The bartender and ushers were friendly and the bar had a good selection of beers, wines, and n/a drinks to choose from, and allow you to bring your drink in using their covered cups. The cast was top notch as well and we enjoyed the play. I hope to come back sometime.

It is an in the round theatre, there are about 3 rows of seating around the theatre, and it is wonderful. I have a hard time going to the bigger theatres, because I am so used to seeing the actors' faces and expressions and seeing spit fly out of their mouths. That is what makes theatre special, like you are part of the play. As I age, I prefer the smaller, more intimate theatres. Irish Classical has a bar that you can bring in your items during the performance, which is nice. All of the ushers and everyone with Irish Classical are friendly and helpful.  The plays are all from Irish playwrights and they are great. The sets are magical and they transport you into the scene. Definitely check this theatre out. The play Thirst, that took place earlier this season, the playwright was there and I got to meet him and get his autograph. It was quite exciting.

Pretend you're on the lam and waiting for a bus to hightail it out of town. The current production "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" was terrific. The seating arrangement enhanced the audience experience by making you feel as if you're part of the show. Although the chairs are not too comfortable. Some people might benefit from bringing a cushion.

Great opportunity for theater lovers on a tight budget. Acting, direction, lighting, sound effects all contribute to an evening of suspense and. . . a lot of laughs. Bet you weren't expecting that. I finally got the opportunity to visit the Lancaster Opera House when attending the holiday play…read moreMiracle of South Division St with a few friends. First off, the play was really good. Very funny! We entered through the back door, up the back staircase so I actually never saw the main entrance or lobby. The place hold about 350 for plays and we had an excellent view. The sound was very good. Seats were pretty comfortable. So this is called an Opera House but that actually goes back in 1897 when it was built when all music halls and gathering places were called opera houses. Luckily for the town, the place was restored to it's original form in 1981. Great benefit to the community. Now I'll be checking their schedule for their future offerings which I know include at least play and concerts. 2021-196
