I saw the Life of Chuck here and had a lovely time! The staff were very friendly and flexible when we needed to change our tickets, and the theatre itself was quite beautiful on the inside. I actually paused after the movie just to admire it on my way out. I was also happy with the snack selection, which was small but unique (ex: options included pocky and Icelandic chocolate). The popcorn was also good. The only thing that surprised me was how empty the theater was on a Friday night. For a fairly large theater, the 5 or so other movie goers felt like a small number, especially because they don't have a lot of showings. Overall, I had a great time and will definitely be back to see the next movie that's showing! read more

This was THE theater to go to when I was little. I didn't appreciate it then like I did tonight. I haven't been here in about 34 years. It is such a Gorgeous theater. It only shows 1 movie at a time,which is fine by me. The staff was very friendly. Unfortunately for tonight's movie "Weathering With You" (an anime with subtitles), they were supposed to have Japanese posters & snacks, which they were out of. My son & I were very bummed. We both wanted posters. I bought a large Diet Coke & it was $4.50. Cheaper than I expected. The theater was clean & quiet. The lights were perfect & the architecture is just purely AMAZING !! The sound & picture of our movie was of much better quality than that of Regal Cinemas or AMC theaters. I would absolutely love to go to another movie here. The tickets were a bit much, but going back to my childhood theater & seeing a great movie in such a beautiful place, with my son, was so worth it !!!!! read more

I remember my first time going to the Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda, NY. Don't remember what movie(s) I saw, but loved the "old-timey" experience and ambiance, from the balcony, to boot! And super loved the Wurlitzer rising from the orchestra pit to enthrall the audience with a short concert. Until last night, I had no idea the Riviera was a sister to the North Park Theatre. Last night was the Renovation Party to celebrate the end of six years of remodeling. North Park on Hertel is a charming historic theater and will celebrate its 100th year in 2020. I've included some photos that show a bit of the baroque and art deco themes of the theater. Seating capacity is 600. All but about a dozen seats were filled last night for the party and first night of Rocketman. North Park is a perfect venue for large group events, but is first and always the quintessential neighborhood theater. Rocketman was the perfect film to celebrate the renovations because, like Elton John, North Park Theatre is still standing, and hopefully will be for many years to come. On a personal note, I must say best movie viewing is middle rows to front, so that you will have to look slightly up at the screen. The back rows, although elevated, leave something to be desired should someone with a big head sit in front of you. (I'm not saying that's what happened.) read more

I've had my eye on this theatre for quite some time and when I realized they were showing a movie that a friend and l were interested in, I decided to go see it here. I'm SO glad that I did! I love how well the theatre has been restored, I literally felt as if I was stepping back in time. It was different thoroughly enjoyable. It wasn't crowded at all and while I enjoyed that, I wish that more people would opt for this particular movie viewing experience. The location is really ideal being that it is on the Hertel strip, it's so easy to just grab dinner or coffee, before or after your trip here to the theatre. We're fortunate to have little gems like this in our area. I definitely recommend going to check the North Park Theatre out and see what you've been missing. read more

North Park Theatre is a gem on Hertel. Recently renovated, it shows all the grandeur of old fashioned movie theaters. Be sure to come a little early so you can enjoy the restored ceiling. No reclining seats here, but enough legroom to make it comfortable. read more

For the random selection of movies, alone, this is a place to keep an eye out for. It show a mixture of indie and popular movies, with a lot of older movies peppered throughout the schedule as well. It's pretty affordable and, from what I hear, so are the snacks! The ticket person the last time I was there was nice and funny, though seemed surprised that people were attending the viewing. I had bought my tickets the night before online, so they didn't register when he checked previously I guess. The bathrooms are scary. Go before you come here. Also, at least the men's room is upstairs - so not accessible. The seats can be uncomfortable for people with a belly/fat people. I know because I am one. That can detract from sitting with a longer movie. read more

Owned by Oliver North, Edwad North-ton, and Peter North (er), this gorgeous movie theatre in the olden style, dominates the wonderful neighbourhood of Hertel with its excellent yellow-and-white with red-writing awning marquee thingy. Everyone I know (and not just hipsters) loves coming here to see movies. I'm sad that I've only been about 3 times in my life, but I intend to come much more in the future. I hope it stays here forever. It's slightly on the high side price-wise for me, but then so is every other movie theatre, and I'd rather contribute to a place like this than some corporation like Regal and AMC. However in all honesty, if it were cheaper, I'd go much more often. read more

Nice way to spend a cold Sunday afternoon with a good friend. It was my first time at this theater but my friend who accompanied me had seen Saturday Night Fever here way back when! Purchased tickets at the box office although buying online is an option. It's a small place so the employees multi task, had to wait for the concession stand to open because the girl was cleaning the theater, no big deal there. Love the personal touch vibe that gives off. The theater itself is quite grand. I mean walking in was impressive. They must've done a fantastic restoration because my friend said it was just as she remembered, with better seats. It didn't seem as though there's a bad seat in the place. Aside from missing a recliner and my self imposed no popcorn rule (I know crazy right?) this was the best movie experience I've had in a long time. read more

The movie Murder on the Orient Express (new version ala Johnny Depp) was just okay, but the theatre was spectacular! Cons: difficult to find parking along Hertel, may need to walk a bit and find a spot on a side street. I mean, how can you not give this beautiful place five stars? I saw Bohemian Rhapsody there last week and I am so disappointed that it's taken me eight years of living in Buffalo to finally get my butt here. The pricing is straightforward ($10.50), there's a cute little concession stand with treats new and old, and everything inside the viewing part of the theater is perfect. There really is something for everyone with the multitude of shows they host. If you haven't been, you are missing out! read more

To soak up the opulence of Buffalo one hundred years ago a visit to the North Park Theater is always in order. I love to catch a movie here to beat the heat in the summer with some popcorn and Loganberry. While the seats may not be massive, as a taller guy it's totally doable for me and makes the experience a bit more authentic. The movie selection is always great and always topical--one of my favorites in the past few years was seeing Labyrinth on the big screen with a group of friends shortly after David Bowie passed away. The pricing is great for a movie for two and some concessions. The bank will remain more intact than a night at a chain theater. I also love seeing the marquee that's become a neighborhood landmark and almost a signature of the city at large. Definitely treat yourself to a night here when they're showing a movie you'd enjoy. read more

Viewed a showing of the 1920's silent film "Nosferatu" that was complimented by a live band providing the musical score (as well as some ad lib commentary!) for the enhancement of the experience. This is a wonderful theatre, and I can't wait to see what the future restoration efforts can do! read more

To say that I love everything about this theatre would be like saying that the grass is green and the snow is cold. My love for North Park is fairly obvious once you get me past that marquee and through the doors. This is a six star experience for me, and one that you grow to appreciate over time. It's so easy to go to a big box multiplex with recliners, but by making the choice to go to North Park, you are not only supporting cinematic history, but living cinematic history. Since the restoration a few years ago, North Park allows the history to shine through while looking to the future. No, the seats are not huge or the kind you get at larger theatres, but there is a decent amount of leg room and if you sit in the exit row, there's a ton of leg room. Arrive early if you want your choice of seats, or to just look around a bit at the fixtures. The theatre still has a stage and piano off to the side, reminding me of the vaudeville shows that must have played nightly before the feature presentation. Concessions are decently priced as well, so grab some snacks and settle in as the lights dim. I have been to a number of screenings here over the years, and recently, I had the opportunity to attend the TCM Backlot presentation of The Natural, filmed right here in Buffalo. What an amazing experience! While things could have been a little more organized on TCM's side, North Park did a great job at managing the crowd once the doors were opened. I like to keep an eye out for the classic screenings, such as the weekend matinees and other special events. There's something about seeing older films on the big screen that can't be duplicated at a big box theatre. Parking is on the street, which can be a pain, so planning in advance is key to enjoying the experience at North Park. Note that there is a fire lane directly in front of the theatre, so don't park under the marquee, you will get towed. I watched someone do this when I was in line for The Natural, and the car was gone by the time the movie was over, and I'm fairly certain it was due to towing. The side streets are good to park on if you're willing to look around for a spot. The North Park Theatre is not only a gem, but a piece of history I will continue to support as often as I can. Pick a show, and then hit up one of the many surrounding restaurants on Hertel for a quintessential date night or just a night on the town. No matter your reason, you'll be glad you saw that interesting movie at North Park. read more

My friend appeared in the movie Algebra of Need, which premiered here last evening before Marshall as part of the Buffalo International Film Festival. Their establishment is very passionate about the community and local film industry. The theater itself is an old fashioned theater so don't expect stadium seating. Great sound and a big screen, though. Concessions are competitive, if not cheaper than the usual theater. You can get a small drink for $3.50, and it's actually a normal size drink instead of a big jug you feel like you have to finish to get your money's worth. Candy is a lot more reasonable at $2. The only thing I don't like is that it gets really crowded around the concessions, and the hallway to the ladies room is right there, as well. It can make for a bit of a traffic jam, and I shudder to think of how long it takes to buy concessions before a sold out show. Great location for a date night because there's a lot of great restaurants along Hertel Ave, and Lake Effect ice cream has a location nearby. read more

I haven't been to this theater in a long time. They certainly did renovated and there's a lot more space in the seating area now. There's always a good movie showing often an artsy film or foreign film. We enjoyed the Lance Diamond movie. read more

What a cool place to come see a movie! I loved the vibe and feel of the whole place. From the old school exterior signs announcing the movies that are playing, to the single ticket stall where a guy sits to sell you your "admit one" ticket, to the grandeur of the theater. Looking up at the amazing wall and ceiling details really helps distinguish this place from all of them chain theaters. The other thing I really liked about this place was the opportunity to get to see such a variety of different movies. Places like North Park are unique in that they will show old movies, lesser known movies, and other special event type movies. We came here to see the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movies from the mid 90s. I LOVED the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movies when I was a kid, as did my husband (though he might not have lost that love like I did, lol) and not having seen it since I was maybe 10 (not true for my husband, lol) it was a great blast from the past! Bravo for giving this area the chance to see unique movies like this. Parking could be a negative. Luckily we went on Sunday so parking was free, and we didn't have too bad a time finding a spot, we did have to walk a bit and it was a cold day but I don't mind walking too much. However, we saw an 11:30 showing and when we left after 1 PM the available number of parking spots definitely decreased, so that could def be tough depending on the day and time. The cost was pretty nice at $5 as compared to the chain theaters, although again it was an old movie being played. However, if you hope to buy snacks the prices are high, comparable with the chain theaters in that aspect but still high in my opinion. Overall great place to visit, highly suggest everyone look at what they are playing, i'm sure there is something you'd enjoy! read more

I absolutely loved this place! Went here on a date this past Sunday and saw Anna Karenina; was great to see such a cool local Theater playing this Tolstoy masterpiece! Right after coming in, you immediately notice how different it feels as compared to the Regal cinema's all over the place, this is much more intimate and old school. First of all, you buy your ticket from a single guy up front and get a "raffle ticket" in return before you enter the main atrium where the snacks and Theater is. Prices may be a little lower than usual for the movie ticket, while expect to pay typical movie theater prices for snacks (but you do get fifty cents for showing them your AAA card!) If you happen to be a man, you'll have to go up quite a few flights of stairs to get to the bathroom, but since you'll be in wonder and awe of the building it won't be that big of a deal (unless you really have to go!) The movie is shown on traditional reels and is not digital, which may bring back some nostalgia and love it or hate it, it's there. I come here to support local movie Theater's and see a great movie that may be on a limited release. If you've lived in Buffalo and haven't made it out to the North Park yet, you're missin' out! read more

The North Park Theatre is a true North Buffalo gem. If you love old-timey, historical buildings then you will love NP Theatre. The artwork and the architecture are breathtaking. There are gorgeous paintings from floor to ceiling in the theatre. The seats are the old fashioned type and can be uncomfortable but that is only a minor gripe. The productions that they select for the theatre are great. I appreciate that they are starting to show new release films, as well as showing independent films and old films and cult films. They really try to reach a wide variety of people with their content and I'm appreciative of all of it. I'd definitely check out something that interests you. I love this theatre. It's old-timey and wonderful and everyone must go. It wins Best Theatre every year in the Artvoice Best of Buffalo contest. It's one screen and they run one movie at a time, usually for about two weeks but sometimes longer. While they have traditionally had more obscure movies, they have been mixing it up the past couple of years by showing popular movies as well as independent film festival favorites. Discounted tickets on Tuesdays and half price concessions. The concession stand is in the back of the theatre, not in the lobby, and serve popcorn with real butter (sorry vegans). You get a real paper tear off ticket, like a raffle ticket, and the place is just adorable. There have a little booth in the center of the lobby where you buy your ticket. Sadly, the theatre will be closing in two weeks. Get there while you can. Dipson has done some other restructuring lately, including turning the McKinley Mall location into a second- run cheap show. read more

Super cool and very historic theatre. They are always playing indie or older movies, but the theatre has a stage as well. Some of the seats have been updated and some have not (like the ones we were sitting in). The seat was uncomfortable at first (compared to modern theaters) but I got over it a few seconds later. I went to see Trew Calling, part of the film festival going on, so they had half of the lobby blocked off and reserved for interviews- there was a red carpet and cameras, pretty cool. Getting into the theatre took awhile, but once they opened the doors everyone flowed in. My only complaint was the line for the small concession stands. They were cashing out using a cash drawer and calculator and it was just moving very slowly. There was also confusion of what was the line for the concession stand. I'm glad to see a theatre like this getting attention and hope it gets more funds to continue renovating. Looking forward to coming back here soon! I finally made my way to the awesome North Park Theatre on Sunday morning for a showing of "The Final Hour" and Im kicking myself for not coming here a thousand times before this. From outside this looks like a movie theatre straight out of the old days with a huge sign and big wooden doors to go with it. When you walk through the front door you are surrounded by movie posters and you even have a walk up booth waiting for you. The theatre itself is basically like a huge amphitheater with a ton of basic seats. I know I usually complain when a theatre has basic seats but this is the type of place that is better off sticking with the classics. The room itself is absolutely stunning and the ceiling is hand painted and beautiful. The screen is on top of a stage and even though this place is extremely old, the sound during the movie was really really good. If you love movies and cool infrastructure, you absolutely need to come see a film at the North Park Theatre! read more

I can't believe it took me NINE YEARS of living in Buffalo before I got to experience this place for the first time. It was awesome! First of all, I expected charm because everyone I know who has ever been here says how cool it is--and it definitely delivered. The ceiling alone was awesome to say the least. And old theatres like this usually have old, uncomfortable seats, but not the North Park Theatre! The seats seemed newer and were comfortable enough that my butt didn't hurt by the end of the movie! Big plus. If I weren't moving, I'd come here at least a couple times a month for sure. I love that they play both indie movies (I saw "The Danish Girl," which was amazing by the way) & old school movies. What's cool, too, is that while you're waiting for your movie to start, they show pictures on the screen of the history of the theatre. Another plus--it was super reasonable on price, too. I love, love, love this theater. Have you ever seen the Majestic? In the beginning of the movie, you see an old-fashioned theater closed, cob webby, dusty and everything broken. And then they decide to restore it. And it is amazing watching them bringing it back to it's natural beauty. The entire town comes together, and when they zoom out and show you it completely redone and the lights on at night ... if you're a person who truly appreciates history and antiquities and old-fashioned buildings, it's a sight that can bring tears of awe and joy to your eyes. I had the honor of being able to watch this theater's restoration from start to finish. The lights on the side, the marquee, the marble floor, the old doors, the popcorn stand, and the piece de resistance, the ticket booth right in the middle of the lobby. The reason it's not out in front of the theater, like days of old, is most likely because it's Buffalo. And no matter how used to snow we say that we are, I don't think anybody could sit outside in a wooden booth in one our winters! Well, unless they've got a bucket of hot wings and a case of beer. The only thing I didn't like was that the snack stand used to be inside the actual theater. Now it's out in the front lobby. The chairs are comfy, they've got cup holders on the back of the chairs that are in front of you, so you don't worry about knocking it over with your arms. The sound and screen quality are wonderful. I was just recently there for the opening of William Fichtner's Cold Brook, and truly enjoyed the moment, the ambiance, supporting Buffalo actors and this theater. read more
