There's…read moresomething about watching a movie under the stars that brings so much nostalgia and creates a cozy experience you just can't get at a regular theater. I came for retro night and watched Grease and Dirty Dancing (not advertised on the sign, but if you know, you know). I grabbed some popcorn and nachos from the Starlight Concession Stand and just enjoyed the whole experience. I didn't find the bathroom, but honestly it wasn't a big deal and didn't take away from the night. If you've never been to a drive-in theater, I highly recommend going. It's such a fun experience and something worth keeping around.

Employees were nice, but we did get the incorrect directions...mistakes happen though! We got directed back into the right area. So no worries. Snack bar was very cool. Loved the decoration. The staff person who took our order though was not very polite...they looked/acted miserable to say the least. Overall, staff is either great or mediocre. Anyways--Popcorn was good! I love how you can put butter on yourself! When we were chatting while waiting for the movie to start, we overheard a slur from people walking behind us...not directed at us but, "no vulgar language" is a rule here...apparently. I DO NOT recommend this place if you have a vehicle that can't withstand bumpy terrain, or you own a lowered car. Rocks fly all over too...so expect you might get chips in your car paint. To end it off--The no smoking policy is ridiculous...especially when it includes vaping. If you're in your own vehicle, I don't see why you can't smoke. Especially, if there's no cars in spaces next to you--it IS outside after all. Making people go smoke in designated areas is pretty shameful. Also the areas to smoke in are close to where some cars park...I don't understand the logic there.

For this play our seats were on the very top balcony. This means 4 flights of stairs!. Ha ha, you better be in shape for that walk. It was high up but ee actually had a perfect view of the stage. Shea's is celebrating it's 100 birthday and up until this point has had no elevators. They're now in the process of adding an addition which will include elevators. Since it's an addition it won't take away from the original charm of the building. If somehow you live in the Buffalo area and have never been to Shea's you really need to check it out. We were there to hear about the 2026-27 season. Tickets are free, but we had to register. The event…read morewas called for 5:30. At 6 the doors were finally opened to sit down and hear about the season. It is now 6:15. The organ is still playing; there is no evidence of someone coming out to talk about the '26-'27 season. There are vendors in the lobby, selling beer, water, wine, popcorn. Nothing complimentary. 6:32 and the first speakers have appeared. Very disorganized. The presentation was a bit lengthy, but very nice. Each of the seven shows in the subscriber series was introduced. Guest artists performed songs from two musicals in the subscription: "Sound of Music" and "The Great Gatsby". There are three additional shows which are not part of the subscription, but to which subscribers can purchase tickets ahead of the general public. The presentation lasted about an hour.

In Buffalo, we're lucky to have so many older historic buildings finding contemporary uses. It's a…read moretestament to change and innovation. Whether that's Silo City Rocks, The Pierce Arrow Building, Statler City or many more...the ALT Theater is one of the more unique performance spaces that I've set foot in. Finding the actual Theater itself is a bit of a challenge. It's on Great Arrow Ave (making a right from Elmwood) and since the Pierce Arrow Building is so huge, it may take a while to find the actual door to the Theater. The entrance to get it is adjacent to the one of the parking lots. You then have to get up to the third floor to find your way into the actual performance space (lots of signage is helpful!). How amazing it is that a former luxury car assembled their vehicles in this building? And now it's home to two Theater spaces (ALT and Subversive), a film studio and hosts incredible events such as the Mass Appeal fashion show? I'm gushing about the Pierce Arrow building being put to good use, but let's get back to the ALT. It dubs itself as a black box Theater, although the show that I saw here ended up almost being setup as a proscenium of sorts, which shows that there is flexibility with the way you can use the space and engage the audience. Surprisingly, it was pretty warm here (The Pierce Arrow Building is nearly 133,000 square feet so most parts of it are not heated or accessible). It's focus is on experimental Theater (self-proclaimed as a hub for experimentation and innovation). The sound and acoustics were wired well for this particular show. One of the challenges is actually finding the space and navigating the Pierce Arrow Building (I actually got lost as I was trying to get out of the building and ended up in some creepy maintenance rooms), but it's part of the fun. You practically get a crash course in Urban Exploration when you go see a show here. If you've never experienced the ALT or the Pierce Arrow Building in any form, I urge you to check out their shows and find one that you think you'd enjoy!

As there is a walk from the parking lot down to the security check and then from security check down to the venue. I did have a moment with security trying to give me a hard time about the clear bag I brought. The venue information said clear bags are allowed. Nothing more on the clear bag specifications. They tried to send me back to the car with my clear bag because it had drawstrings and they said they makes it a back pack. Well yes, I can wear it on my back but it's still a small clear bag. I really didn't appreciate the fuss over this and objected. They let me go in after some back and forth but really felt this was ridiculous.

During the Sierra Farrell show, this venue hired officers that threatened to pepper spray my family…read morewhen they closed the lawn during a lightening storm. When we arrived at the venue, due to the storm, we were told to go into the shell during the opening band. We watched the band inside the shell. Then we were told to go to the lawn at 8:40pm. We went to the lawn at that time, along w/ approx 400 other people. Ten min late, the venue closed actual walls between the shell and the lawn. The rain/lightening was still strong so we sheltered in place at side of the shell and under a roof. State Park police and Artpark Security told hundreds of people that had to leave (while the show was going on inside the shell). Everyone asked security and police to let them in the shell for safety and they said no. We advised to them that we have two children and one of our childrens' friends (whose parents were in the shell) and to let us contact his parents and work on a plan. Since it was raining hard and lightening very close and our car was a 10 min walk, we told them it was safer to stay where we were. Police started getting aggressive and threatening. As they started to push the crowd away, we heard one of them threaten us that if we didn't leave, he would spray the crowd. When we asked if he would pepper spray children, he answered that it was his job and he was happy to put food on his table.

It was a great time, and only $5 a person. We could get a beer or glass of boxed wine for a $3 donation, making for a fun, inexpensive date night relative to other venues. The plays are $20-$25, which is the typical price for theatre in WNY. It's a more intimate setting. Fewer seats and closer to the stage. They specialize in more edgy, thought-provoking shows that you aren't likely to see at the more conventional playhouses. There's other events like Dirty Love during the year, as well.

We went w 12 of us the kids were 4 yrs old and they did great sitting through this colorful and high energy play. The theatre is a classic and the actors really gear everything towards the children. They even came out after and answered questions for the kids. Nice to know we have such a wonderful theatre geared towards children in our backyard right here in Buffalo.
