Down on the floor, the boards were bouncing up and down beneath a hundred pairs of stomping feet, like the whole damn building was having a seizure. I stood back with a cold PBR tallboy in my hand, watching the band members, 20 tears later dance themselves into a stupor while the music hammered away. There is a spot downstairs when you walk in to rest on a couch if you need. There are drinks: wine, beer, cider. The bathrooms are decent if you have to use them. Some positives: There is a coat check for $3, and they accept credit card. There are multiple stalls in the ladies' bathroom, and there is soap! I saw non-alcoholic drinks: Poland Spring water, Monster energy drink.

When I went to The Iridium over the summer, the seating was situated more for dining and the performance is more of an afterthought. At The Bitter End I was front and center facing the stage The big attraction is the history of the club. The Bitter End opened in 1961 and was a launching pad for performers who later became major stars. I started following The Curtis Family when we were all locked down in 2020. Now in 2026, the family band hit the road and one of the stops on tour was The Bitter End. As with any of these small venues, they have a two drink minimum. Once my wife & I were seated, we ordered a few cocktails and settled in. The stage was large enough to have the (7) members of the band and they had two keyboards! The sound system was great and the drinks were strong. The seating, even though I was able to be in front, it was tight seating. It was a little too close for comfort. The Bitter End is a small, intimate, old-school Greenwich Village club. If you're looking for a classic New York City music-night experience, The Bitter End fits extremely well into Greenwich Village. It's a great venue for a folk singer or a small jazz performance.

The jam was incredible. I didn't know all the guys but the guy on drums is a legend named muppet. He held back on his solos on the first 2 songs. On the third, when the baton was passed to him, he ripped off an impressive solo that would be amazing for anyone, and he is 93. We had to dip out to catch our flight, but cant wait to stop in again next time.

And if that's the "worst" part of the experience then you know it was an overall good time! I was wavering between whether or not to get the collard greens and asked if they were sweet or bitter or spicy. Our server went and got a small sample for me to try because it was hard to describe. I was grateful for her willingness to let me try them. By the way I did order them and they are more savory than any of the above. It's a gentle savory flavor. I also got rice and beans and teriyaki salmon. The beans weren't exactly what I expected. They were black beans which I don't typically associate with soul food. They weren't bad although next time I think I'll get potatoes. My dining companion got lamb chops and collard greens and mac and cheese. She loved everything and at it right up! The food presentation, flavor, and portion size were all good. I didn't leave feeling overstuffed but I was satisfied. The servers checked in on us an appropriate amount of times (we didn't feel rushed or under surveillance but they made sure we had what we needed). Thank you, Valerie Simpson, and your late husband; Nickolas Ashford, for creating this amazing venue. The guest host for the evening was the incredibly talented Olutayo. Olutayo is joy exemplified. His vocal range, dance moves, entertaining facial expressions...infectious. I fell in love with this man and did not hesitate to tell him so. Beyond his talents was Olu's ability to manage / juggle the night's open-mic entertainers with such grace. From the lyrics of En Vogue and Salt-N-Peppa: "Whatta Man, Whatta Man, What a Mighty Good Man!" All of the entertainers were incredible. What a range of singers, dancers, a poet, a violinist. And the band! The band! The band! Come on!! Outstanding. I was seated next to Darius, one of the several background vocalists that were positioned throughout the lounge. We became fast friends in this space filled with exuberance. Darius was a delight. He was also a big brother to me, making sure no one blocked my view of the performance. Thank you, Darius, that was so kind of you. I had such a wonderful time being in the company of all these amazingly talented people. It was a 6-hour dopamine rush that should not be missed. The dinner that was served was top-notch. I had the Sea Bass. My friend had the Golden Fried Chicken. Both meals were delicious. I had the ginger mocktail with rosemary and blueberries - so yummy I had two. Dessert was key lime pie - suffer we will. Our server; Vickie, was a delight and amazing to observe as she maneuvered around the performers and kept us and everyone around us well served and continually hydrated. Vickie is to be commended for how hard she worked throughout the evening. I made sure our tip reflected our appreciation of her. Put the Sugar Bar on your bucket list when visiting NYC. My visit last night to Niagara Bar in NYC left me deeply disappointed and compelled to share my experience. From the moment my friends and I entered the establishment, we were met with a level of rudeness that was utterly uncalled for. The doorman's demeanor was nothing short of discourteous, setting an unfortunate tone for the rest of the evening. To make matters worse, upon entering, a female server or manager abruptly demanded that we purchase a drink. It struck me as a rather perplexing request, as one would assume that acquiring drinks is precisely the purpose of patronizing a bar. However, I brushed off this initial encounter and proceeded to order a drink from a female bartender. To my astonishment, she not only provided subpar service but also had the audacity to demand a tip when I handed her exact change. Such an attitude towards customers is not only unprofessional but also completely uncalled for, especially considering I had already paid for my drink in full. Feeling compelled to voice my concerns, I sought out the individual I believed to be the manager. Unfortunately, instead of addressing the situation with empathy and understanding, she resorted to using profanity and launching a tirade against me. Adding insult to injury, she proceeded to gather other employees, pointing and laughing at us as if we were the ones at fault. This deplorable behavior exhibited by the staff at Niagara Bar is absolutely unacceptable. As a customer, I believe in providing constructive feedback and giving establishments an opportunity to rectify their shortcomings. However, the complete lack of professionalism, disrespect, and mockery directed towards us as paying customers has left a lasting negative impression. I sincerely hope that the owners of Niagara Bar take this review seriously and address the issues plaguing their establishment. It is my fervent desire that they conduct a thorough evaluation of their staff, instill a sense of respect and customer service, and create an environment that encourages patrons to feel welcome and valued. I cannot in good conscience recommend Niagara Bar to anyone, given the abysmal treatment I experienced. Customers deserve better, and it is my sincere hope that the owners will take immediate action to rectify this unfortunate situation. read more

I have had the misfortune of witnessing this bar in operation many times, as I live nearby. I'm really genuinely starting to believe that the woman who manages the bar (blonde, thin, olive complexion) has something seriously mentally wrong with her. On multiple occasions I've seen her outside of the bar shining flashlights directly into her patrons' eyes and screaming at them. I have even watched her get up in customers' faces to yell and cuss at them. Every time I've ever gone inside, she's been incredibly nasty and rude to me. There have also been multiple times where I've watched people leave either crying or just downright furious after their interactions with her. My roommates and I literally have inside jokes about her because we've seen her act like this so many times that it's basically routine. She is giving the whole bar a seriously bad name. Obviously this woman acts the way she does because she didn't get enough love in her childhood or she just hates herself or some shit. There are a thousand reviews on Yelp and Google about how terrible she is. If this bar weren't in a busy part of the village, they would have been boycotted and gone out of business years ago solely because of her. I have been in the customer service/food service industry since I was fourteen years old and I currently support myself through school by waitressing. I have plenty of bad days, rude guests, or just crappy things happen on the job that make me want to lash out, but I never do because I'm not a toddler and I understand that if I treat customers with disrespect I could give my restaurant or myself a bad reputation. I'd assume that managing in the hospitality industry would teach someone how to be at least a little personable or tactful, but she is often intentionally spiteful and unkind to her customers. How embarrassing and sad for her. There are plenty of better, cleaner, KINDER bars in NYC where you can have a much more pleasant experience. Tonight I went to the Niagara bar, a regular trip for me on Saturdays. I was with friends having a good time. My body told me "Alan, you have to take a poop" I thought okay body let's do it! I went to the bathroom and took a fairly long poo. While in there I heard several slams on the door. I shouted "someone"s I here". The slams continued. I then shouted "hey, I'm taking a shit". Because subtlety is a harm of mine. The slams continued as I was cleaning myself. After washing my hands I unlocked the door and said "hey I was taking a shit what's your problem" only to be met by a hand on my throat and pushed against the bathroom sink. The sink the fell to the ground. This assailant was the bouncer. His name is Terry he is a hefty, bald, about 5'9. He then took me and brought me outside after I repeatedly said I was just taking a shit. I looked at my phone outside and found out it was broken so I decided to call the cops. Because they broke my property AND their own. The police and officers of the 9th precinct arrived in 5 minutes ( literally unheard of for a Saturday night.) they asked the situation. Got my statement none of which was written down. Then another officer came over and threatened me saying "it's your word against theirs and the sink is broken and you have no marks on you, we could take you to jail or you could walk away." I fought them a bit and then they asked for my ID to try and scare me. There was constant intimidation used against me. And I was bullied to backing off. I find out the bouncer who assaulted me has done this repeated times and is an ex cop. Also if you look at a past one star review. This bouncer has done this type of thing before. read more

**Terrible Experience - Beware of Theft!** I recently had an awful experience at Niagara's. My phone was stolen while I was there, and the owners didn't seem to care at all. They offered no help or concern when I reported it missing. Through my own efforts, I managed to track down my phone. When I confronted the person who had it, they claimed to work at the bar! In a slip of the tongue, they also mentioned another phone they had stolen - an iPhone Pro Max. If you've lost your phone at this bar, reach out to me. I can share their location and help you recover it. This place is clearly unsafe, and the owners' indifference makes it even worse. A bouncer STOLE my phone, then continuously SLAPPED me out of the club. 3 other bouncers also PUNCHED my friends in the face and STRANGLED them. no apology was said after these events by management or any of the bouncers. And be careful not to get into an argument and/or assaulted by a white person because you will always be wrong. When the time comes, they will show you just how not-valued you are. Best happy hour deal in the city, especially if you hate sports bars. The music is fantastic (read, Ramones followed up by Caribou followed by the Raveonettes followed by T.Rex). And a prime spot for people watching...if you wanna see more than the creatures that show up on Friday and Saturday nights. Niagara keeps the spirit of the East Village alive. This is where the rock&roll legends and newcomers intersect. Bartenders are funny, cool, and as real as NYC gets these days. Went to this dive on a Friday night on a date to let loose and dance, post-dinner. I found out quickly that this is not a "bump and grind" dance floor, which was a nice change of pace but the music definitely rides the line of cheesy, "good clean fun", so you def have to be in the mood for it. The DJ played karaoke-type, overworked dance classics from the 70's and 80's, and it felt a lot like the children's bday parties that I regularly work at on weekends tbh. I go to Niagara often for super cheap happy hours and the friendly bartenders. Not to mention the music is usually great (depending on who's playlist it is). That being said, I really just wanted to respond to Lauren L's comment by saying that not only as a customer who had never experienced a rude bartender here as well as being a bartender myself, a bartender is typically only rude for one (or both) of the following reasons: 1) You are an asshole. 2) You aren't tipping (see #1) Please note that bartenders DO NOT get paid hourly and if you are not tipping them, serving you is literally costing them money. read more

The short haired blonde "gm" called me a privileged tech white b**tch, literally because of the way I was holding my laptop bag. She also said "when I tell you to move, you move." Confused I was forced outside and wasnt allowed time to tell my friends I was "banned." My boyfriend was grabbed by the throat and thrown into a sink, breaking the sink and my boyfriend's phone, by a mid-40s, white, bald bouncer there. Apparently this bouncer is there every saturday night. The bouncer lied to the management and cops and said my boyfriend broke the sink himself and lunged at him. The bar then threatened to have my boyfriend arrested for destruction of property. There was even a 3rd party witness who corroborated my boyfriend's story but neither the bar nor the cops gave a shit about the truth. So be careful at this bar. Not a safe place. read more

Can I give less than 1 star? Was at the neighboring Lovers of Today Bar and a hostess from Thompkins Square Bar slammed a door into my husband. She was unapologetic and standoffish, leading to us being removed from the bar. The owner originally claimed we were being defensive, but after reviewing the video agreed we were right. Too bad that was after we were humiliating thrown out of the bar. Never returning. They also own Lovers of Today and Thompkins Square Bar. Upstairs crowded and not easy to walk through. Lots of tight spots and coats strewn about. I feel like there was a redesign of the upstairs that made it worse than it was before. Downstairs. my Friend and I were walking by and saw a fight break out between the bouncer and a patron. The bouncer threw the man into a telephone pole and he was knocked unconscious bleeding from his mouth. my friend who is a doctor aided the man until the EMTs arrived, and after he was loaded into the ambulance the bar wouldnt allow my friend inside to wash the blood off his hands. Don't come to this bar. The bartenders act crazy and are drunk while serving you. They'll hit you, curse at you, and spazz out on you for nothing like they're on crack. The GM will do nothing as well. If you have a passport for your ID then don't come here, they won't let you in. The bartenders here are racist, violent, and homophobic. If you want to get your phone stolen then this is the perfect bar for you. The caliber of people that go to this bar are below low class, people pick pocketing, shoving aggressively and rude staff. Whenever I go out in east village I always want to give this place a chance. Constant trash. The ONE bartender does their best but they should hire more. But the one female bouncer was so insanely mean to us tonight. I guess we aren't doing he clientele she is looking for?! Sad to let go of this legendary bar but it hasn't been the same since COVID. read more

Worst place ever. Worst music of all time. And the bartender that's old, fat, long hair and glasses is literally the meanest, rudest person I've ever met let alone should not be working with people. He should probably get his head checked out and 100% fired because he's a POS. Will say with certainty that I'm definitely never going back. read more

This bar purely exists because of location. I live in the neighborhood and have visited a few times. It is rather large and has more room than probably any bar in the area, but being the poor 20 something that I am I find the drinks to be extremely overpriced. You can get similar experiences in the area without spending as much. read more

She then yelled at my other friends and continued shouting out lies and humiliating me in such an inappropriate and unprofessional manner. Horrible experience and my whole group of 7 of us left right away. Will never go back and hope no one has to experience this either. Spend your money elsewhere. They are entitled and plain out RUDE. Seems like this is a common reoccurring thing, especially towards women. I have never experienced something so bad.

Came here on a Friday night recently for a karaoke birthday party. The space itself had a certain dive bar feel to it. The drinks were fairly inexpensive, which was nice. The bar is what you would come to expect in a karaoke spot that's an open space. If there were to be a critique and reasoning as to why it's 3 stars instead of 4 stars it would be for two items. Now I get being in the service industry is tough, but there's no reason to be aggressive to the customers. Reading the reviews, this seems to be a common issue. Would probably only go here for shows when necessary, but would avoid just getting drinks there. Never had a such a bad experience with the customer service to warrant a review before but this one definitely irked.

And although I have nothing against The MAN and tried to apologizing a plethora of times he still went on to badmouth me to the rest of the staff there all because I asked for a year for a wine and had some sunflower seeds(I have a high caloric intake hence why I carry seeds on me ) outside while smoking.
