If I could give 0 stars I would. Let me paint the picture. I am 28 years old. It's a Thursday night in NYC. A college buddy from Colorado is visiting so 5 of us choose to meet up. We choose this place for a couple of drinks and to watch the game. We are former college runners so we were coming from a run. There is nobody at the bar - maybe 2 guys at the bar. The football game is on and it looks like a perfect place to drink and catch up while watching the game. Anyway - we go to order and he asks for our IDs (we're all 28). One of the guys - who happens to my twin brother - didn't have his ID because he forgot it before we went on our run. We try to explain that he's my twin (we're identical), while everyone else has their ID. The bartender looks at us and says "I'm good". At first we thought he meant "I'm good", as in he didn't need to see our IDs. But he said it again with a smug face, and this time we picked up he wanted us out of the bar (again, nobody in the bar). It's an important lesson that those with little power wield is the most. Horrible experience with a nasty bartender. Wouldn't recommend for anyone looking to relax and have a good time. read more

You'll wanna read to the end to see why this rating is so low. I just got out of school, always looking for new places to try. On this particular night we stopped in for my friend's 23rd birthday. The bartender met us with apprehension and a face like serving us was the last thing on Earth he wanted to do. He refused to serve us til he had every single one of our ID's in hand. Studied them for a while and then finally gave them back. Each one of use who ordered was met with what seemed to be disdain and annoyance at the plight of having to serve us. After I bought myself and my friend a drink to meet the $15 MINIMUM, I left a really really small tip on my card. Sure I know it's usually a common courtesy to tip somewhat well but - Sorry! Moneys tight right now, for literally everyone! Can't pretend like we're not all experiencing it - and on top of that buddy you get what you earn! The bartender then took my tip out in change, tracked me back to my table with my friends, confirmed it was me and THREW THE CHANGE AT ME. Then he told me not to bother ordering for the rest of the night because he wouldn't serve me. If zero stars were possible I'd probably leave that, but the back was Star Wars themed which I really liked. So I'll give them that. I freakin love this bar, it's the type of place NY is losing. It's a few steps up from a dive, but it does have an older crowd, long time regulars, and they play rock. I remember REM, Alice in Chains, and some blues. It's unpretentious, well worn, and full of fun and interesting people. Their happy hour runs till 8pm and they have rock albums over the bar, I remember seeing Abbey Road. A big window at the front with bar stools lets you watch the masses roam by. There are two back rooms, a larger one with tables and Yoda peeking out of a treehouse, and a smaller one in the back with arched wooden church doors that opens up into a cozy nook with a couch and bookcase. It was that little room I found myself in, having a spirited discussion with four other strangers about everything from family to science to documentaries to psychology and philosophy. It had the feeling of a meeting house from a different place and time, when bars and cafes were places to share ideas and talk about life. And yeah, they police the jukebox. I understand why some might hate this, but every other bar is playing the same type of music all over town and music is the tried and true way to ensure you don't become an overcrowded hell hole full of "oonce oonce" sounds and woo-people. read more

Thank you, Mel for introducing me to this low-key happy hour spot. Divey, but good. If you're walking by and not paying attention, you might miss the entrance to this bar. You'll need to walk up some stairs to get to the bar area. There are some window seats overlooking the street below and seating in the back as well, but both times, we opted to sit closer to the bar. It's pretty dark in there so you might have some trouble reading the blackboard with drink specials - fear not. I got you: HH is from 5 to 8 which is pretty good for the city, considering most bars have a HH that ends at 7. This makes Greenwich Treehouse the go-to spot to drink for cheap. The selection is pretty good - lots of beers on tap and if you are feeling fancy, they carry Wolffer's Rose Cider. Well drinks are discounted during HH too. read more

Greenwich Treehouse is your pretty typically dive bar that had a good crowd on a Friday night. The bar is small but you can still move around without spilling half of your drink all over yourself. Some of the bartenders were a bit snippy and others were awesome - also typical of most bars. The best part about Greenwich Treehouse is that there is a back room you can rent for free. It is a perfect spot to rent out (free!) for a larger group gathering (20+). The room has a big table, bathrooms, another small room with couches, arcade games, and bar access. The bar access is perfect for ordering your own drinks without having to worry about waiter service/splitting a bill a million ways. I am not sure how much beer and wine is, but Titos/Espolon and sodas were $11 each. Overall this is a solid bar and a good spot for a big group if you're looking to book a space for casual drinks. read more

Since the awesome bartender, Evan, left, there has been a serious downturn in service! The new bartender never remembers regulars, isn't very nice and usually charges everyone to include his tip. Maybe people stopped tipping him because he was so bad. Why be a bartender if you can't stand people or booze?! Anyway, we still come here for our weekly happy hour with friends, but we're trying to phase it out. Unless the bartender suddenly changes or gets a new personality, we'll be looking for something better ASAP. read more

My friends and I hoofed it a ways to find this bar and it was worth the walk. There's a second story window that we sat in and watched the people of Greenwich walk around as the sun went down. It was a spectacular evening. The bar didn't have that many people when we arrived but by the time we left it had built up a nice little crowd. Can't beat the happy hour prices. There were also little rooms where you could hang out with a small group of friends. The restroom was gross and I think the door lock was broken, that or I was too drunk to figure it out. I'm sure it's a great place to be late night but we had to get a move on, more bars to visit. read more

This is probably my favorite bar in the city. The drinks are reasonably priced. The Star Wars motif gives it just the right divey feel. And the people here are always pretty cool. There's even a nice little room in the back of you want some privacy for your group. Bartender is a bit of a wanker if you walk in without wrinkles on your face. Despite being way over twenty one he gave my group problems when we two steps into the place. Yeah bud, I know you need to check my id. But let me settle in before you start hollering at me. When we gave him our ids, he thought they were fake until I "proved I was born in 1993." Obscure 90s trivia is my thing even if I wasn't 25 but good on ya anyway, mate. What can I tell ya, black don't crack. We got a table on the upper part, which was lovely. The bar is divey but charming. There were a couple people using the jukebox and jamming. The bartender continued to be a twat until his set of regulars left. Either they told him he was being a jerk or he was showing of for his set of friends. Maybe by the end of the night I was just being cheeky back because the amount of disrespect was laughable. It seems like they are trying to detour a younger crowd, many younger yelpers seem to also have problems with the bartender accepting their id and being rude. It's a chill spot if you can manage dealing with him. There is no food here, but they let you order in. I won't based on how much of a dick the staff is here. read more

The bartender turned my entire group away on a monday night because he thoughts we weren't 21 when we were all 21 & 22 (celebrating our friend's 22nd birthday). Even after running all 8 of our legal IDs, he gave us no reason other than that "we look young", which is just because a few of us are under 5'5". The bartender was tall and had shaggy brown hair- I wish I knew his name but my group was so upset that we left quickly. I've never felt such disrespect in an establishment in my own city. I'm extremely disappointed in this bar relying on the discretion of a single arrogant bartender. Now I understand why the drinks are so cheap, because it reflects the service as well. read more

Had the worst experience here. Bartender literally said to us "You Don't belong here" when we were on our way out. We were the only People of Color in there and the only women in there. When I confronted the bartender about the interaction he accused US of being weird towards him, even when I expressed multiple times he made us feel super unwelcome and uncomfortable. read more

Not too crowded - we grab a seat by the awesome window overlooking the street to people watch the drunkards dressed in green. Look at the board of specials and see the fabulous happy hour for Thursdays = hey bartender I'll take a $2 beer. Bartender embarrassingly replies - sorry no specials today. (Everything seemed to stop around me) What??? No specials today? It's St. Patricks Day and you aren't even honoring your happy hour special? Irish people all over the world are so disgusted with this place right now. Alas, bartender wouldn't budge - so my $2 beer was actually $6-7. 2 beers later - I left to find a better place to celebrate the holiday of drunken debauchary. Moral of this story - this place is alright on Thursday's but just remember in the back of your head how they are a disgrace to St. Patricks Day, Christmas, Yom Kippur, halloween or I am sure any holiday that you want a cheap drink. read more

Hey, when the bartender let's you kick people out of the two back rooms because you want it, that is kind of cool. Let me explain. (I am not a jerk...my friend is...just kidding =) My friend was having his going away party here and he reserved the rooms for a private party. Nope, he didn't have to pay extra or even put down a card. The problem was that we got there at 9:30 pm and he sent out the invitation for 10:30 pm. So, yea, for about an hour there were 4 of us and we had the two back rooms to ourselves. The bartender was totally cool with that. He imbued my friend with the power of kicking people out. That is pretty nice that he put the guests' needs ahead of the bar's. The bar staff is pretty chill and not snooty like other places. You wait at the bar to be assisted, they see you, you get your beer...no nonsense. The beer selection is pretty vast, and not too expensive, most are around $6. For New York, that is pretty good. I got the negra modelo served in a glass, solid. The atmosphere was that more of a cleaner dive. It is really casual, really laid-back and just a chill place to hang out. Thanks Treehouse! read more

Treehouse was excellent. You can't really beat a $3 happy hour draft. (And I highly recommend their Amber Ale.) It was surprisingly not crowded, and my friend and I perched at the tables that overlook the street. It was cozy but not stiffling. We stayed for three hours and had a ball. This might be New York's best dive bar; it certainly tops Downtown West. We came here on Cinco de Mayo afternoon and caught the bar at that perfect time when all the riffraff were pubcrawling their way to gut evacuation and hangovers and before the nightly yuppie invasion took hold. The Treehouse is perched on the second floor between some random shops, near the venerable Fiddlesticks, which surely absorbs much of the crowds away from this joint. There are 3 varieties of Big Buck Hunter for the ardent fan. Margaritas were available for $6--small but stiff. There were also $4 kamikaze shots, which went down well. On other days the specials are even more alluring, so keep an eye out. There's a nice big table in the back, perfect for our group, and a private nook in the back for more intimacy. read more

Liked the cozy back room, especially the table with the fake fireplace, the music was 90s style rock and although it was a little loud in the main room, it wasn't too loud in the back room. My only experiences here have been on Thursdays for their Beat the Clock Happy Hour, which starts at 5 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m. During this time, most of their draft beer selections are only $1. Yep, you heard me right! You just can't beat that one!! A word of warning, however... especially if you're hungry after work--they don't serve food. They do, on the other hand, advertise what they call "BYOF" (Bring Your Own Food)-- for real. What an interesting concept! Personally, I have yet to bring any food, but my friend Ryan and her husband Greg have brought in snacks for Thursday's Beat the Clock festivities. The atmosphere at the Greenwich Treehouse is nothing fancy, but that's not what they're going for. The place is an inviting, casual, no frills neighborhood bar, and that's part of what makes it charming. Note that on Thursdays, a guy named Evan is typically tending the bar. Evan is friendly and attentive and is another reason I enjoy hanging out at the GT on Thursday evenings. read more

I met some friends downtown to watch a football game on Sunday...not something that I would normally do, as I know nothing about sports. But I wanted to be social and partake in some afternoon drinking. The Greenwich Treehouse wasn't open at 1pm when the first football game of the day started...they only seem to open about an hour before the Philadelphia teams play a game, as Wogie's (a Philly bar) is located just across the street and the Greenwhich Treehouse opens to accomodate their non-cover-paying overflow. I don't really like the inconsistency in opening times. The bartender on Sundays is pretty cool...he's like a slimmed down Seth Rogen. He'll have a drink with you and carry a pleasant conversation. The layout of the bar is interesting, with some high stools by the bar, and a cool section up front in the window overlooking Greenwich Ave. There is a secret room in the far back corner that my friends started calling the "boom boom" room. It seats about 6 people comfortably, and there is no television in that room, but there is a window overlooking the backyard. There's also a really cool "back room" with a long table surrounded by chairs and a giant TV over a non-working fireplace. This is where we hung out...it's about three steps to the bar and three steps to the bathroom and three steps to the video games. It was the perfect room. This bar is awesome in my book for one main reason: Connect Four. When you have no interest in sports, its' really fun to play a game or two of Connect Four (with friends or strangers). See how alcohol affects your strategy. I really liked the Greenwich Treehouse, and I'd go back, but even at 5:30pm on a Sunday, it was pretty quiet. Happy hour is 5-8. Half off beers and well drinks! Most of their beers come out to $4. They don't have a lot of options on draft but they have a lot of bottles, so you'll probably find something that'll suit your taste buds. Every time I come here during happy hour, I always get a seat. It's never too packed, which is perfect for me (since I hate crowds and loud groups. And yes, I know this makes me sounds like I'm 80 years old but I'm okay with that). I think it's because it's a bit hidden. You have to go upstairs in order to enter the bar. The place is kind of divey (the front is definitely less divey than the back so try to grab a seat there) but if you're just looking for a few quick/cheap drinks, this is the perfect place to do so! read more
