Matthew Broderick Park is named after none other than Matthew Broderick, who filmed key scenes of Ferris Bueller here before running over several Buffalonians in his car after filming. It's okay though, because he's famous. I love this place, as I love the adjacent Squaw Island Park and Bird Island Pier. A lot of people underrate this place but they shouldn't. It's a lovely spot in Buffalo and unlike any other, especially because the Pier that extends out from here, goes all the way under the PB. I was last here not too long ago, a few months maybe. I always bring out of town tourists here (if they like walking), we wander around Squaw Island, the park, this part of it, and then along the Pier. It's beautiful, the views are spectacular, I recommend it to anyone. It's pretty harrowing in winter, though. In fact, Broderick Park is that amazing park just north of the Peace Bridge. To get to it, you drive all the way to the end of Ferry, across the rusted metal drawbridge, and you're on a little green island, which is also known as Broderick Park. It's a wonderful park with spectacular views of the Peace Bridge (known as the Pizza Bridge to Canadians because it's their most direct link to amazing Pizza... i.e. Buffalo Pizza), and it gives way to Bird Island Pier, where you can flip the bird to Canada-bound trucks and passenger cars and buses, and there's really nothing they can do about it except vow to exact revenge upon their return to the country, which may not even happen given the climate of border crossings into the USA at the moment. read more

Well, I haven't been down here in years, lots of years! It has been reconfigured, more grass and picnic area, fewer parking spaces... the water is lovely and refreshing, the breakwall is still pleasant and walkable.... Today it was crowded, the Blue Angel squadron was at the outer harbor so it was a great view from here.. on a hot day, the breeze was everything! The ice cream/ snack shop serves Charlaps and is clean and very new looking! I didn't get any ice cream but it sure looked good as it walked past us in the hands of children of all ages! Very nice day at the park, go here if you like water and sunsets! read more

Beautiful scenery, and loved the walk. Unfortunately, we couldn't walk the entire way because there is a part where it drops off. It was sunny and high 70s out but I'd recommend a sweater or beanie for those who get cold easy or the wind bothers their ears. Lots of ducks and seagulls, part of the trail is covered in bird poop but just watch your step :) read more

We haven't been here in a couple of years! They've done a bit of updating since I saw it last. This park is kind of a hidden gem, and you drive over a bascule bridge to get to the parking lot. (We got to see it raise for a boat during our walk, which was fun!) The river walk path is neat, but often needs repairs. The last time I was at Broderick you couldn't get past the bridge, and I was excited to see that you could go further than that today.. but the path was collapsed even further down and I still couldn't make it all the way to the lake. It does have a beautiful view of the river, quite a few benches and picnic tables, and an up close and personal view of the Peace Bridge. But with the consistently broken path, I can only give it 3 stars. Will probably not visit again for a while. read more

Don't let the street entering Broderick park fool you, it looks like it has construction but it is only on one side of the street, the sidewalk, and the entire street is not closed. You can drive your vehicle into the island, but as other reviewer have indicated, the bridge is pretty scary to go through, not unsafe, just not as sturdy as other bridges. You can walk all the way out to the water and there are plenty of green spaces. I see people fishing here. Has a potty john on the island. read more

Broderick Park aka 'Foot of Ferry' is one of my favorite places in Buffalo. I love to walk along the river on the walkway be it Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall. 9 out of 10 times it is quiet, and peaceful. Hence, the Peace Bridge :) Yes, there are rats, it happens when there are pipes along water. Yes, sometimes there are sketchy people, but if it's night time, I always have company to be on the safe side. My only wish is that they would repair the side of the walkway that is past the Peace Bridge, and expand the landscaping and walkway to truly make it a destination. Love this place & love the view. read more

This is my hideaway. Everyone needs a secret garden or a place that feels like "home". This is definitely my spot. I come here when I'm happy, and I come here when I'm sad. The path on the water is what I love the most about this place...it feels like you are walking on water; The path ahead of you seems endless and you are surrounded by water. I come here with a favourite snack and stare at the water, i come here at night to watch the lights from the bridge, I attempt to get into running by starting here, I come here for deep conversations with friends. This is my favourite thing about buffalo. Being someone without a permanent home it's important for me to find a spot that provides the comfort of home. I'm hesitant to even write about it, because I'm so protective of this place. I hope you enjoy it too :) read more

Know that little strip of land along the Niagara River that you can walk down on? This park is how you access it. Just go west on W. Ferry until you get to the bridge. Crossing the bridge will give you access to the park. People go fishing along the river here. While walking down the mini island of the river may seem like a romantic thing to do, be prepared that in the summer time and dusk you will encounter huge swarms of moths and the pathway is littered with mice and rats. I have never seen so many mice and rats scurry across at once as I just did here. Not even in NYC parks. Despite the infestation, this is still a worthwhile park to check out and the walk down the river is very cool. Don't miss out. read more

This is a cool park because it allows you to walk the pier way into the water, crossing under the Peace Bridge from USA-Canada. Gorgeous views and good fishing spots. There are also many water fowl--Canadian Geese, Mallard Ducks, Storks---and they are really fun to watch as well. The only thing that knocks a star from this park is the unavoidable presence of bird crap in every phase of creation and decay. It's throughout the walk but in some sections it's a splatter avalanche that walking through feels much like navigating a mine-field. So--don't wear flip flops or sandals and don't wear anything that drags the ground! Luckily it honestly didn't smell so that helps a lot. Well worth a walk (about 2 miles to the end and back) and some photo opp. read more

This is a fantastic park that is, as of this review, completely inaccessible by car. The West Ferry bridge is currently closed for repairs, and will remain closed until 2016. The only way to get to this park is if you're an employee of the sewage treatment plant, (the road is closed to the public from the north side of Unity Island) or if you are on foot or bicycle. One of the problems of course is that the renovations prevent the Riverwalk bicycle path from going any further south from this point, unless you want to walk/ride out onto the Bird Island pier (which also dead ends.) Once the renovations are done, I imagine this will be a fantastic park. It's just a shame they put all this work into it (newly paved lot, etc) and nobody can really use it. Unfortunately this also means that there is a little bit of graffiti popping up. Hopefully the city will swoop in and take care of it soon. Still, there are some gorgeous views from this place! read more

One of my favorite places to take a long walk in Buffalo. A very unique park with a draw bridge for access. Parking can sometimes be scarce.

Broderick Park is shaping up beautifully! The City of Buffalo is really doing a great job here. When you cross the lift bridge, the space is nicely landscaped, paved, and inviting. They are currently constructing a building of sorts, but I am not sure what it will be used for. It's so amazing to walk along the break wall that separates the Black Rock Channel and the Niagara River. You get to admire the grandness of the Peace Bridge from up close, and if you take the path all the way to the end, you can get some amazing shots of the Buffalo Skyline and the lake. Well worth the walk! The biggest drawback for me is the fact that the water/sewage treatment plant is located right next door, and depending on the way the wind is blowing, it smells less than pleasant. Still, this is a truly amazing gem of the park we have in the city! read more

OR the Foot of Ferry as it was called when I was growing up. Listen, this park is IT. The 1st thing I'll say is that this is like probably where your parents used to go to hook up if you're from Buffalo LOOL. This was literally always the spot known for that. I love how it's been updated over the years. In my opinion, it's one of the BEST parks for getting away near the water in Buffalo, NY. One of the ONLY spots that you can feel like you're walking in the down the center of Lake Erie. You get an up-close and personal perspective of the Peace Bridge from this park. There's always lots of people fishing and walking around. As with any other park, it closes at 10pm (not heavily enforced) so for the people having those make-out sessions in the car with the foggy windows, you DEFINITELY want to start heading on out out unless you want the cops flashing lights in the car asking you to leave because the park is closed (not a personal experience-haha). But one of the SCARIEST parts of accessing this park is the BRIDGE!! OH MY GAWD! I'll never forget the day my cousins mom jumped the bridge as it was lifting to let a boat through. I screamed so loud!!! The additions of the park benches, and pavilions were definitely an added bonus to this already scenic park!! read more
