A bit of salt on the batter would be nice. Yes, they provided salt and pepper shakers but it's different when the food itself had been salted a bit and not bland. Other than that, the fish was perfectly fried. The staff is nice and polite. I still recommend this place. If you get the chance to dine outside if weather and temperature permits, do it! However, Hollywood gets it right. I've been there three times since it's opened, and every time I've gone it has been wonderful. The wait time is almost non-existent (Out of three visits, 10 minutes was the shortest, 19 minutes was the longest), and the food is amazing. The fish & chips, which is the main draw, are amazing, not oily or bland at all, the fries crisp and warm, not soggy or overly thick like at most places here. Their homemade burgers are also fantastic, and their poutines can't be beat (although the only downfall was that they use shredded cheese. I'm a curds man myself, but hey, to each his own). But the real cherry on top is the price. Hollywood is easily the cheapest place for food in Elliot Lake that isn't McDonald's or Subway. I can guarantee you won't find any other place in E.L. where the food is this good, for this kind of price. With it's cool, retro 50's style diner interior (complete with Presley photos and a guitar clock, nice touch!), and kind, up-beat staff, Hollywood Fish & Chips passes the tests with flying colours. They decided that we would be eating dinner there and let the staff know that they would be back with a group of people between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The place is open until 7p.m. We arrived with 12 (twelve) people at 5:45p.m. only to find the lights outs inside except for the kitchen area. The doors were locked and the hours posted said Saturdays close at 7p.m. We were utterly disgusted as they knew that we would be returning with a group of people. There was no notice anywhere indicating an early closure for that day. We were all planning on having the jumbo halibut @$17.95 and drinks each. How a business can turn down $300 in sales? Didn't seem like too busy of a place the day before I am sure they could have used our business. Any way, we visit Elliot Lake frequently with these legion events and would appreciate some kind of explanation in regards to this awful experience that we had.
