Driving a 1937 Ford Pickup street rod to the 100th anniversary of Rt. 66 from Phoenix when my vehicle began to lose power and would no longer perform well enough to continue from the Prescott area. Friday midafternoon in Prescott was not the ideal time to run into vehicle problems. My first contact was with Paul S. of Classic Restorations and Sales. Paul went out of this way to assist a fellow classic car enthusiast and ultimately directed me to Keven at Nichols Autofab. What a great experience!! Keven went out of his way to make room for my classic vehicle when room in his shop was at a premium. Keven agreed to immediately attend to my needs and further agreed to ensure the vehicle was secured inside the business and not left outside. A trip that had been in the plans for almost a year was clearly in jeopardy. Between Paul and now Keven I was able to continue on with my plans to drive Rt.66 as a participate of the Rt. 66 fun run. Repairs were to the point. Fair in price and done by a very understanding and confident staff of personnel. As a member of a National Car Club, we are very cognizant of auto service centers that provide minimal services and at an inflated price when we are traveling while knowing we are at the mercy of unscrupulous mechanics. I cannot emphasize how the services at Nichols Autofab were so very much apricated and welcomed. An unfortunate incident did two things; brought me peace of mind for the service and repairs completed and the meeting of two great men that I will consider a friend that I will indeed continue to praise. read more

UPDATE: Our banks are in the process of doing charge backs. We also found out from Toyota that they lied about the a/c hose ever being installed or damaged and the alignment was never done and they did not replace bushings, they also lied about the steering rack and used old parts and that we had to have long travel suspension or this would happen again. They also threw away our parts which are legally ours and we were never asked in writing if we wanted them thrown away. They will compensate us for those parts also. The alternator WAS NOT DEAD and we were charged for ALL OF IT!! Toyota said they also couldn't understand what they were doing with their invoice because no mechanic shops computers work that way and that Nichols is doing theirs like this probably to seize the opportunity to scam( BIg Surprise There) if it came about (Like Us) and that all of their parts didn't even have parts numbers and Toyota said they made it so confusing and it was most likely to cover up their scam. Once our lawyers put everything together we will also be filing criminal charges with the Prescott Police Department as we have the voice recordings and enough proof now that it can switch to a criminal charge! We will definitely be suing them in court also. Our bankruptcy attorney is working with the trustee as well, because they have effectively committed fraud against the United States Government while we are in the middle of our bankruptcy. THEY EFFECTIVELY HELD OUR TRUCK HOSTAGE! DO NOT USE NICHOLS AUTO FAB OR YOU MAY LIVE TO REGRET IT LIKE WE HAVE! THESE GUYS ARE TYPICAL LOWLIFE SCAMMERS! Quoted$1134.03 I made the mistake of telling them this couldn't happen at a worse time & we had a Disneyland trip in October for our 4 year olds to see their grandparents. I'm guessing they thought we had a ton of money to bleed us dry!Next day once everything was taken apart they said everything we'd need&labor the total would be$3325.43out the door because we"HAD TO HAVE"long travel suspension or this would happen again.We asked parents if we could borrow $1,000 to help us pay & they said yes since we had a rental car that we can't even afford&we need to get the truck back asap. 2 days later Kurt calls back&says we got the 2 parts installed that we talked about and we're right at the$4400 we agreed upon&now we need you to pay to overnight a part from the east coast so we can get the truck finished by the agreed upon time&I said whoa whoa whoa we never agreed to$4400we agreed to $3325.43&he said I don't know how this happened we never scam people.I told him to stop work immediately because we were out of money & never would have agreed to that price if that's what they would have quoted us from the start & I'd have to talk to my wife & my parents to see if I can borrow the money.Our parents&my wife&I all agreed that we should just pay the$4,400&get the truck and forget about it, so I called back to tell him to finish the work.Next day he called&said he had to put on a power steering hose($449) because they got in the truck to take it for the alignment (which is the final part to the truck being done)&there was 2"of play in the steering wheel&that with that installed&labor it would now be $4800! I then called my wife and parents AGAIN&they all reluctantly agreed to give another$400.Next day the guy calls again&now says the same exact scam he did the first time which was that they were getting ready to install the2 parts that they previously told us were already installed 3or4 days earlier and were already added into the rising quote&now we're at the agreed upon$5,388.03&we'll be all set to pick up the truck on Thursday October 2nd as agreed upon&also now I need to pay $400 dollars for an a/c hose that's rubbing on the winch&leaking(the winch is inside the front bumper and in no way touches internal components in the engine compartment)& that now we will owe $5404.00&again I told them we never agreed to that amount&went over all the prices&parts&asked for an itemized copy of everything&he still had no explanation of how this happened and couldn't accurately give me an answer because their computer didn't list parts or prices only received costs and mentioned again"that we don't scam people here"So I called my wife and parents AGAIN &we all agreed that if the truck is done let's just pay it&get on with life.He calls back the next day&says now our alternator is dead(Toyota found that it was NOT dead or low)& will need a new one.I asked so if it's dead send me proof&he said "what, like taking a picture of the dead battery light in the car?"I said well if it's dead what is it reading on the meter, you're saying it's reading 0.00? He said "Oh on the meter, no it's not dead it's just low" so he lied about that also.He said"well let's put the alternator on the back burner for a second&let me tell you what we got going on."He then said "now we're getting ready to put in the power steering hose(which AGAIN was supposedly installed already TWICE AND PUT IN 3 or 4 days ago&was already included in the jacked up price) so they can get it to the alignment shop (which was also supposedly already done& included in the jacked up price)&that our total will now be $5800 dollars&we still need to have a new alternator installed" at that point I told him I'd call back. CHECK FOR ANOTHER REVIEW UNDER NICHOLE PETRIE FOR THE REST OF THE STORY. I CANT EVEN GET CLOSE TO THE WHOLE STORY IN ONE REVIEW. SCAM ARTISTS!! CONTINUATION OF ANDREW PETRIES REVIEW.We then did research on how to handle things next because this guy has obviously been scamming us the whole time&came across numerous articles saying to ask for our parts back&under Arizona law if we ask before the work starts or during the work process the shop is legally obligated to return the original parts to us because we legally own them. So I sent an email immediately requesting all of my original parts they took off. 2 hours later we decided it was time to get the truck away from that place immediately and take it to the Toyota so they can inspect the work&to fix whatever needs to be fixed. I called& told them stop all work immiediatly&he said "well let me take off the labor on the cabin air filter and the K&N air filter off the charge because we installed it without asking you" I said that I wanted to speak to the owner Kevin Nichols. I didn't even get half way through the story when on the other end he yells "SIR!!!" & I said, "yes?" he said "are you even gonna let me get a word in?" & I said "Oh I'm sorry as the owner I thought you'd want to hear the whole story before you came to a conclusion?" And he just went silent for about 10 seconds and said " I sat next to Kurt the whole time" and I cut him off and said "now listen, before you start lying, I have 2 witnesses that have been on every phone call with us since the first time Kurt lied to us& upped the price $2300 so I suggest you tell the truth because we will be using it against you in court"& he said "You do!?" I said "Yes" & again he went silent for about 20 seconds until I said "Hello?" He replied "I'm still here" I then said "We'll be in tomorrow to get our truck and old parts" he said "Well are you going to pay me?" (After my parents and I did research we found out that we needed to write on the receipt "payment under protest" to be able to pay him and legally sue him after payment) & I replied "Of course I'm going to pay you, how else am I gonna get my truck but I will be writing "payment under protest" on the receipt"& he replied " how are you going to pay?" And I said " Im going to pay with my debit card"& he said " Well now I'm not going to let you pay with a card because you're going to write "payment under protest" on the receipt and you have to pay me with a cash or check" (Arizona state law it is ILLEGAL. A business can only choose their payment method before the work ever begins & has to be in writing to the customer, which was never talked about once with us) (it is also illegal for him to deny my LEGAL right to write "payment under protest" and using a card as payment and creating a paper trail) & I replied to him that "I'm not gonna reverse the charge and told him to google that "payment under protest" doesn't mean we're going to reverse the charge, it simply means it reserves our right to a lawsuit after payment has been made" so he googled it & said "ok so you're paying with card?" I said "Yes"& he said "you're coming tomorrow to get the truck?" I said "Yes" & hung up the phone. We ended up being forced to pay $5833.33 We never got a straight answer out of them on what condition the truck is in because it has all been a lie. The truck started up right there in the parking lot and the alternator was not dead but had it towed anyway because they would never give us a clear answer of which parts were installed and what was not. Kevin and Mark did an absolutely amazing job making sure I found a solution for my Jeep's death wobble. I went in with a very tight budget to fix my death wobble and unfortunately ended up having another issue as I was still saving up to fix it. My steering gearbox blew out. I made a phone call and said I will use my deposit to fix that, and worry about death wobble another time. They insisted that all the problems will be fixed and we would worry about the financial situation when the time came. After all, they wanted to make sure I was safe. Fortunately I was able to save up enough to fix it in time. But these guys absolutely care about their customers and only want whats best for you. A couple of years ago I got an estimate for big O to put Bilstien shocks on the front of my vehicle and replace the upper control arms. I then got an estimate from Iron Springs four-wheel-drive and they were half the cost of Big O! Kevin at Iron Springs four-wheel-drive is fair and honest, and will do you right the first time! I'm now going back to iron Springs four-wheel-drive to have them fix and correct an issue that big O tires on iron Springs did on my truck. Big O refused to take responsibility for their actions and I will have nothing to do with them ever again. I've learned my lesson and will do all future business with Iron Springs four-wheel-drive. read more

I went in today for the tailgate of my pickup truck that stopped opening yesterday. I telephoned and had an appointment. They fixed my truck in about ten minutes. A plastic piece had broken in the linkage at the handle. I was ready to pay, figuring three to five dollars for the plastic piece and another ten to twenty for the mechanics time, but they said no charge. Now that is customer service. This was the first time I have been at Nichols, but I will start bringing my truck there for its regular service. They seem a lot more honest than the local dealership that I have been taking my truck to since moving to this area. read more
