My father brought his BMW into Jim's to get an alignment done. This should be simple enough, or one would think. The tech working on the car ended up breaking an eccentric bolt in the rear end during the job. Things happen, I get it... but that is not where the train went off the rails. The service adviser, Charlie, explained that the bolt/car was very rusty, and this is why it broke. The car is originally from the Pacific NW where we do not salt the roads in the winter. There is ZERO rust on this car. Charlie now wanted to charge my father $100 in labor to replace the bolt and another $40 for the bolt itself. BMW of North Scottsdale sells this bolt for $16.87. Needless to say I stepped in, called the shop and told them I would be back to pick the car up with my trailer. At this point I will go purchase the correct parts and fix the car myself as $140 is unacceptable for a mistake that they made. Fast-forward the story, when I got the car home, there was ZERO rust on the bolt and it was twisted to the right which indicates it was over-torqued when he tightened the bolt and that is why it snapped. When we were still at the shop picking the car up, Charlie was still very insistent that the car was rusty to the point that he even leaned over his desk to get in my father's face. I was outside strapping the car down to the trailer while this took place. This type of aggression and intimidation is unacceptable and honestly I wish I had been in the room to see this. Only a bully uses tactics like this. Had I been in the room, I guarantee his big brass ones wouldn't have been that big.... To end the story, in order to pick up the car, my father had to pay for a $50 inspection... Really? $50 for you to break it, me to fix it and send the car to another shop to align it properly. Wow!!! This could have been easily fixed by taking ownership of a simple mistake, instead of gas-lighting their customer. read more

As I recently moved into the neighborhood of this shop, I was really looking forward to doing business with them. I expected a smaller neighborhood shop to be more appreciative for having local business and be honest in their dealings with customers, than say some of the larger outfits. I went to this shop with a left brake and rotor problem. I had asked before they even got started what it would cost to repair the rotor and install new brake pads. They had quoted be around $360, If the rotor was repairable. This gave me a good starting point, and I was all set to have them do the job for me. I had pulled the wheel before I had called, and knew that the rotor was questionable, but I about fell over when they told me what needed to be repaired. They wanted to replace both calipers and rotors . They wanted to replace what I call the master cylinder assembly, and bill be $1,900! What really put me on the defense, was when they told me that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced because it had cracks in it. I can't tell you the amount of times I have been told that a serpentine belt needed to be replaced because of a few cracks! An honest mechanic will tell you that they don't have to be replaced until you see some of the material missing or fraying. Besides, I didn't ask for them to do anything with the serpentine belt! I told them I would pay for them to replace the Left rotor and caliper. They said No, "You have to replace both calipers." I said No, "Just put my truck back together and I"ll find someone else, if not myself, to replace what truly is required to be fixed. I will go and find me a shop that will be honest with me, one that won"t try to sell me the proverbial serpentine belt story! You can make your own decision. As for me, I really don't want to trust my vehicle to a shop that zings people for unnessesarry work. I would have been willing to let them replace the left rotor and caliper. Every truck I have ever brought to this shop they say needs ball joints or they won't align. I then bring to another shop and the never mention ball joints and align the vehicle. I ask, are the ball joints ok? They answer; they are fine. I would not trust this shop and will NEVER go back. read more

I have dealt with this shop twice. The First time, they did not drive the car and fixed something that did not solve the obvious problem. The second, I called to confirm the price when I made the appointment and included all relevant details including I was providing the parts. When they started to do the work I received a call that the price was 25% more because I provided the parts. Neither time did they offer to rectify the situations in any way. They seem very cocky and have no concern for customer service. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this shop. read more

I made the mistake of adding too much oil to my husband's car and after blowing out lots of smoke it died. I had it towed to Jim's Alignment on the recommendation of someone I trust. They were able to get to my car quickly and within a few hours of dropping my car off, I was able to pick it up. My brother in law sent me here to get some 8 bushings and 2 ball joints pressed out and new ones pressed in. He's been going there for over 30 years. They charged me for an hour to take the old ones out plus shop supplies for a total of $116.00. when I came back with the parys clean and painted to install the new bussings and ball joints, they charged me for 2 hours. That was $220.00. My total to press out and back in 8 bushings and 2 ball joints on control arms I brought in was $336.00! What a tip off. I questironed the second bill and they said it took longer because they had to finesse them in. I've done this before on a friends press myself. Doesn't take that long. My wife and I recently had our vehicles serviced at Jim's. The actuator for the heating and cooling system broke in my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee. I called the local dealership to see if it was under warranty, but it wasn't. It was going to be a 3 week wait before they could get to it. I made an appointment with Jim's and they had it fixed a couple of days later. I then took my 2018 ram truck in for an alignment. The technician made some adjustments but said it did not need a complete alignment. Everyone here seemed Professional and knowledgeable concerning our repair needs. One star does not even start to describe my experience with Daryl and his company. After 9 years of exclusively using them for my vehicle a rookie mistake was made costing thousands of dollars worth of damage. My tire company ( who made complete amends and repairs) installed 2 different sized tires causing the transfer case to break, twice. Thankfully the manufacturer warranty demanded the second repair be made at the dealer. immediately upon bringing the vehicle into their bay they questioned the tire sizes that I was unaware of. Long story short, Jims Alignment refused any part in this unfortunate disaster. Daryl was extremely nasty to the dealer and even left a message on my phone telling me to have the dealer shove a stick up his you know what. Their part in this is they had serviced this vehicle multiple times and even rebuilt the suspension and did not look for a cause of the second transfer case breaking down. Do not trust these mechanics, they made a rookie mistake and refused to take ownership costing in the 10,000 dollar range. I thought I had found a great trustworthy shop, I was so wrong and I am just lucky nothing worse happened. read more

I took my car into Jim's because it wandered all over the road. $50.00 later the tech told me that it was all ready to go but needed a new steering damper. Drove it home and it was at least as bad as when I drove it in. I decided to check the alignment myself since I read about a way to do it at home. It was WAY off. I also got a new steering damper but it turns out the one on there was fine. I should have asked for a printout because I didn't get one of those either. read more

It is very hard to find a good Mechanic shop. You know, one where you actually get to speak to the mechanic and not just the person at the front desk. I took my Camaro in to Jims Alignment in Prescott this morning and they did a full inspection on my alignment and the service was just great! Any future repairs on my vehicle will definitely been done at this shop. The whole process took roughly about 45 minutes. read more
