Myself and a few coworkers were in town and decided to stop by Nickies1971 for a bite to eat and drink Christmas Eve. By the time that we sat ourselves down, we were already greeted by a rude and pushy bartender named Melissa. Melissa, had asked me and my fellow coworkers for our ID (which she had every right to legally) but she had right away refuse to accept our STATE issued and FEDERALLY issued ID cards, which confused us. We asked why and she blatantly said that she would call the police if we did not leave but we had done nothing more then just walk in and sit down at the bar and produce identification when asked by the bartender, Melissa. Everyone from our party was over the age of 24 yet Melissa still refused to service us. Again, we asked "why" but no answer from Melissa. I have never experienced such hatred and horrible service from Nickies. I have been here many times before and have also brought my wife and family to this location with no issues. The thing that had me flabbergasted was the fact that I have been serviced by Melissa many times before when I was there with my wife. I really hope management corrects this issue because it has really put a bitter taste in my mouth and others about Nickies. I hope that no one else experiences what myself and coworkers of mine went through. Melissa's behavior and conduct was pure disgusting and I hope that it gets corrected. So i work on tybee i went Nickie's 1971 Bar and Grill and i was called a "nigger" by a white woman with long blonde hair working the bar . Her reasoning for saying it was because i wouldnt let her kept my change . After she threw my money down i constantly ask for the manger and owner just to find out the couple laughing was the owner . He watch as his employee threw my money down he laugh as she called me a "nigger" then she proceeded to say " I'm not fucking scared of you black bitch." Y'all I'm in scrubs i legit was at work and the fact she called me a nigger because i didn't give her change that didn't belong to me . I didn't fuse yell i didn't even curse back i was just shock. But what i can say is me and my entire family will be eating there next week . Because see no matter how much of a "NIGGER" that establishment see me as I'm not going to allow someone with low vibration to stop me from eating there and when i eat there just know I'm going to sit next to the owner who as of now is less than a man and his employee that work that bar need to lay of the drinks and she wouldn't have to be upset when people don't want to give her change . So, I have lived on Tybee Island for two years and frequent this establishment fairly regularly- no longer. I turned up on game night, Georgia v TCH, championship....an hour and a half early for the game to ensure I got a seat. So, no seats at the bar and had to take a four top in the back. Talked to the bartender and said, heah, let me know if a seat opens up at the bar because I don't want to take your table unnecessarily. He said good thing because if it gets busy, I'm going to seat people with you. I get that and said, no problem. So another half hour goes by and the owner, Calvin, comes up and says, you are going to have to move over, pointing across the bar to a table of strangers and sit with those guys, I have four people who need this table. WTF? I get it, people joining me at my table, but seriously, I'm the one who came in early, so seemed like a jerk move- and that's me using my very cleanest language. Needless to say, I left and will never go back- plenty of places in this town to watch football. So, there you go...don't go to Nicky's, bartenders are great- the owner isn't. Super fail. read more

Right there in the heart of Tybee Island at 1513 Butler, Nickies1971 (a revival of Nick's original place now re-opened within the last few years) is a great place to go when you're hungry. It's got a great variety of food, ranging from pizza and stromboli to burgers. A real winner is the fresh-cut french fries. They're cut right there with a fry cutter so you know they're fresh - and they are excellent. The pizzas are very cheesy - we had the pepperoni pizza, a sausage, and a "supremo." The dough is not that great - looks like a pre-baked refrigerated thing. The stromboli was not well-stuffed, but it was tasty. Burgers are great. We also had (during our stay in Tybee) the jalapeno poppers and fried cheese with marinara. Nothing special (similar to what you'd make at home) but not bad, either. Sit at the counter or in a booth, or on the sidewalk. Service is friendly and fast. The bar in back is smokey, so be warned. read more

I have neve been more disappointed in a local establishment. For this to be a tourist spot it was a disgrace. I am from Macon Ga where this bars sister is, The Dawghouse that I am a regular at. I really expected more. But I think this place should be called more of a tourist trap. The bartentenders actually seemed to antagonize the locals to fight with tourist. We had a large party, think goodness, that was not intoxicated enough to actually participate in the drama they seemed to want to promote. We will not be back. read more

This place has been around forever! I enjoy the food and the service, depending on the day you go in and which bartender is serving. My personal favorites are Renee and Sara. They have daily lunch specials and dinner specials on Wednesday and Sunday. Wednesday is a crab leg special, while Sunday serves a steak special -- decent sized ribeye, salad, shrimp, and baked potato for $14.95. I know what you're thinking, steak and crab legs from a bar?! They're surprisingly very good and big hits with locals. I wouldn't recommend the steak special any other day besides Sunday because you don't get as good as a deal. If it's not one of those two days, my personal favorites are the Ribeye Sandwich, Buffalo Wings with lemon pepper added, or the Chili Cheese fries with ranch and jalapeños added. The burgers are also delicious and very big. I'm not much of a drinker so I can't say too much about their drinks. The quality of the drinks depend on the server. There is one server who is heavy handed with the pouring. I asked for a vodka cranberry and she poured about 3.5 shots of vodka in and a splash of cranberry juice for color. Nickie's has it all....live music on the weekends, karaoke sometimes, open mic night every Tuesday, good food and drinks, Texas hold 'em, KENO, darts, pool table, dance floor, sidewalk seating, back deck seating, friendly staff and regulars. Came here tonight wanting to have a fun night with my friends. The server took about 10 minutes to come to our table even tho the place was barely full. We all ordered drinks which seemed to be a little overpriced. The server asked for our IDs and when checking them he assumed they were all fake. We drive over 9 hours to Tybee Beach and we all are well over 21! When we tried telling him that our IDs were real and to get someone else to check them he instead called the police on us! The police checked our IDs and told the server, who said he had been checking IDs for 15 years, that all our IDs were in fact real. There was no apology from the server nor did he offer us something for our troubles. If you're going to be checking IDs, you should know how to tell a real one from a fake! I will NEVER come here again! If you are around the age 21-24 and from out of state, I recommend you skipping out on coming here! If I could, I would give them zero stars! We initially went to Nickies a couple years ago. They had just reopened and were very busy. We were rudely told that they couldn't serve anyone else. We left and didn't return...until a couple weeks ago. Our kids wanted something different for lunch and wanted to try Nickies. Well, imagine my surprise to find out they had expanded and had a full bar, plenty of seating, and KENO. The food we ordered to go was very good. We have since returned twice and the food both times has been really good (the pizza is super thin crusted) and we love playing Keno. We will continue to return if the atmosphere, service and food continues to be as good as it has been recently. read more

One of the best places we have ever been to! The staff and patrons are some of the most friendly I have ever encountered. My husband and I went here while celebrating our wedding anniversary - we had original plans to go on a cruise but, as luck would have it hit horrible traffic and missed the boat! We went here on a Monday night when they were pretty slow but had a Texas hold em tournament going on... We decided to join and had one of the best times we've had in a long time!! Incredibly rude staff. Came into town for a wedding and came to this bar to hang out. When we walked in and up to the bar the bartender looked at us in disgust and said "oh my god" and rolled her eyes. She also refused to serve some of the group because she was too busy but continued serving and chatting with other patrons. We are all military families and can only conclude that this bar does not support the military as they had no other reason to treat us this way. Maybe consider taking down all of your American flags if you are incapable of providing any kind of friendly service whatsoever to those who serve. Somehow this place answered the phone # listed for Cousin Vinny's Pizza on Google+. I have no idea where Cousin Vinny's pizza is, but the phone # rings to a place called Nickie's 1971 at 1513 Butler Ave. I called and it was hard to hear the person at the other end due to loud music. I asked if the were Cousin Vinny's pizza and I heard something garbled and "we have pizza." It was late at and already had one pizza place not answer, so figured I'd just give these guys a try. This review is for Nickie's 1971 that answers 972-786-4444, not Cousin Vinny's Pizza. To be honest, the pizza was crap. I have had super thin crust before and if done well it is not that bad, but this had the consistency of a slightly mushy saltine cracker crust. After I paid for my pizza I checked it on my way out and it was pepperoni, not mushroom like I ordered. I took it back and told the cook it was wrong and he just said "not my problem, I just cook what is ordered." He offered to just throw some mushrooms on top and I said that wouldn't work because I was a vegetarian. Anyway, he said I had to take it up with the bartender to get it fixed. He got me all worked up so when I went to the bartender to complain she made it sound like I was a jerk for complaining. I never did figure out who screwed up the order, but they replaced the pizza. Zero stars for pizza, I cannot say anything for the other food since this was just crappy bar pizza at best. STAY AWAY read more

My friends and I go to Tybee Island all the time. We've been to all the bars and know what to expect. Friendly people for the most part, and we have bartenders that we like(some we don't), but I don't think we will be going anywhere but to Nickie's from now on. Our bartender "Ms Rita Bell" was awesome! My friend had had a little too much to drink, none of us needed to drive, so some of the locals arranged for Island Hoppers to pick us up and take us to our hotel. ( great way to get places) They even helped with the fare since we had used up all the money that we had taken out with us. At one point the whole bar started singing together! What a great night!
