Last night, after eating at a terrific Italian restaurant in the neighborhood, I went to Nick's Barbershop to have my hair buzzed. The barber who cut my hair was young guy named Abe. First Abe told me to wet my hair, which I thought was a weird request. I've been to barbershops that wet/wash your hair before cutting, but I've never been asked to wet my own hair. But as I found out, Nick's Barbershop is just a weird place. Instead of a cape, Abe wrapped me in a beach towel. Instead of a barber's chair, I sat in a desk chair. After telling Abe the length that I wanted, he got to work. I quickly realized that Abe was anything but prepared. He started complaining about not having a comb--what kind of barber doesn't have a comb??!! Well I'll tell you what kind of barber doesn't have a comb: the same kind of barber that drinks alcohol during the cut! Yes, Abe was drinking a beer while cutting my hair! Another weird part about my experience was that Abe's girlfriend Carly was filming the whole thing, and she wouldn't stop talking about her tattoos! Anyway, Abe thought it best not to follow the natural pattern of my hair, and instead, elected to freehand the line of my widow's peak. This decision proved to be I'll-advised, as my hairline is now as asymmetrical as Big Eye-Little Eye's eyes. In addition, from what my friend told me, the line of the hair on my neck is also uneven, but I don't know for sure because Abe refused to show me. To make matters worse, Abe had the audacity to argue that he had done a good job when he clearly hadn't. I can say honestly that this is the worst haircut I've ever received, but at $0, it was a fair value. Overall, my experience at Nick's was pretty horrible, and I'd love to say that I'm never going back. Unfortunately, I live there. read more

I've been to some of the most high-end stylists in Manhattan, and they were...meh...ok I guess, but I've never had an amazing experience like I have every time I go to Nick's Barbershop. I've been a few times now, and every time I sit in (I hope this is how your name is spelled man) Gene's chair he creates a work of art. What I'm saying here is that the man is a true master of his craft. The atmosphere and jovial nature of the shop is top notch, making it a great place for a guy to get a haircut. It's a true barbershop, not one of those overpriced stylist joints in Manhattan where you'd have to sit next to some geeked out chick getting their hair teased while they go on an on about their love life to her "stylist" whilst he effeminately murmurs reassuring responses. You'll see none of that garbage at NICK'S. Nick's is a true old school barbershop filled to the rafters with knowledgeable barbers who will give you a haircut at a fantastically reasonable price. Nick's is so damn good you'll never want to go anywhere else. I know I won't! I hope to become a regular, and you should too! read more

Nick's Barber Shop is great, everyone is very friendly and they do a great job every time! I've been a regular customer for about 2 years now and I can say i'm always happy with the results. The shop is very clean as well as the tools and products they use to cut hair. They use a new barber razor for every customer which is safe and sanitary. It's in a convenient location and the prices are very fair. The only thing I would say is that sometimes the lines are very long and you can wait up to an hour, there is always a lot of people trying to get a haircut there, which shows they are some of the best in town. Overall these guys are great I couldn't recommend a better barbershop in the area! read more

Walking into Nicks barber shop, I wasn't sure how I would be received. Being a woman at a barber shop, I thought I would feel uncomfortable. Haj has been cutting my hair since I've moved to New York so I knew if she felt comfortable then so did I. My experience was nothing short from amazing with the welcoming ambiance I felt once stepping foot in the shop. Once in the chair, per usual, Haj made me feel and look amazing during my cut. I always go to Nick's barbershop since I moved to the Bushwick/ridgewood area 3 years ago. You can honestly trust any of the guys with the scissors - it's always a great great cut. I am a super particular person and they deal with my specific instructions gladly. Always renovating and updating/cleaning the look of the shop it looks great with new aprons and paint. They also have a great big screen with movies and sports as well. I would recommend 5 stars for every time I have come in, which has been many. read more

Nicks barber shop was the first barber shop I stumbled into last year when moving to Brooklyn. I have been back every time I have needed a haircut and shave since. Everyone there is very friendly and great at what they do. When I was a total rookie in this city they all made me feel at home and gave me a lot of suggestions on things to do in nyc. Definitely a good place to go if you're looking for a good cut. Was seeking something last minute and I am very serious about my haircut as that's like a representation of you and a new barber is always a def scare to anyone. This is my family's favorite barber shop. I've been coming here to get my cut for years. Nick and I had a mutual friend who was a barber at his location (Primo) who past away. Now its Nick who cuts my hair. I told Nick i don't really understand how is it I'm always here on payday for a cut. My experience at Nicks Barbershop has always been excellent in all the years I been going to his shop. My boys are all grown up and away now. In the years they went to Nicks they and I were please with his service. Today I still go to Nicks with my youngest son . I used to go to a salon in midtown until I found this place in Ridgewood. Nick (the owner) has a pride in his business and I love the fact that he respects all customers regardless of age, race, or anything else. Because his barbershop is pretty crowded during the weekend, I always make an appointment with him even it costs $5 to do so. This place is it, guys. Try it out. This place was amazing. I needed a barber for my 3 year old but someone who would only use scissors and Nick did just that he kept my son calm and at ease great attitude towards my son. I previously had David and Nick as my barbers for a skin faded haircut and they really pay attention to the detail work. One of the best if not the best place to get your haircut. Nick the owner is great at what he does and makes cutting hair look like an art. The place is super clean and all the barbers are friendly and courteous and do a great job as well. I found my new barbershop. I popped into Nicks on my way home from the train and was more tha surprised at the high quality of service and shave and cut i recieved. I have been to many barbershops in different places but never had I experienced such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The guys at Nick's are always so happy and they work as a team which makes for choosing one specific barber sometimes difficult but no matter who you choose, you always get the best service.
