I can say for the price and variety that you get here , beats everyone. At this small veggie stand, the family chooses the option of using small baskets and everything on the tables are a small $3.00 a basket. Other items such as the bell peppers, melons and such varies. And that's isn't a bad price for them other. Most melons ranges from about $2-4 and the bigger ones can be about $5 bucks and yet that still isn't bad at all. Unlike most other stands I've been to, this family starts early in March and all during the hot time of summer , they still set up and throughout storms also. Al the way till Apple season come early Fall. Stop by and see them if your in Portland, TN. They are not that hard to find. They are right off I-65 exit 117, just up from the 4-way stop on your right.

The quality of everything they sell is top-notch, and it's become one of my favorite local spots for fresh meat. But this visit, I have to talk about the blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Wow. It was one of those desserts that makes you stop talking after the first bite. The cobbler was warm, packed with sweet blueberries, and had the perfect buttery, crumbly topping. Paired with the cold, creamy vanilla ice cream melting into it, it was absolutely incredible. I honestly wasn't expecting to find one of my favorite desserts at a butcher shop, but here we are! The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions or make recommendations. You can tell they genuinely care about the quality of their products and the experience they provide. It's rare that I update a review, but this place earned it. Between the outstanding meats, excellent customer service, and now one of the best blueberry cobblers I've had, Light Hill Meats keeps giving me reasons to come back. I like to support local businesses, but it's become obnoxious. Perfect example is they sell Masa Chips for $15 a bag. I have ordered them direct for months, @16 bags for $56, free shipping. Seriously, I am all for running a profitable business, but I stopped shopping there for a year, and finally went back for sausage just last week. I will again, go back to Semler Farms.
