Wonderful food and service, great ambience in a small setting... Well worth a trip across the border!

Nico Nico Nico.... My favourite Italian restaurant (apart from Italy) by far. First off, make a reservation because it's small and cozy and busyyy. Nick Politi knows his sh*t, let me tell you. I can't complain about one meal I've had here and I LOVE that the menu is always changing based on what's in season (as any resto should). Ossobucco, bistecca, mussels, anything seafood, the list goes on. If you get Marco or Johnny(not sure if he's still there) as your server consider yourself blessed. So warm, cozy and authentic. Fantastic food, bad service. This is the third time my girlfriend and I have been to Nico, twice at the previous location and recently to the new one. For the recent trip: Came in with a reso, only waited a couple minutes and was sat at the corner table with adjacent booth, which was admittedly a nice spot. We were sat by our waitress, whom we never even learned the name of (older blonde woman) in the entire nearly 2 hour duration we sat. We had the calamari, octopus and bread to start which were phenomenal. For entrees we got the carbonara, lamb ragu and split the ribeye between ourselves- everything was great but that ribeye was fantastic . Up until this point we had mediocre service at best, but when she learned how much we were ordering, service started to get better and more prompt. We got 2 desserts as well (peanut butter chocolate cheesecake and tiramisu) as well as a cappuccino, and throughout dinner I had 2 double shots of scotch. At the point of paying the bill, she tried to joke with us but it seemed as if she were covering up doing a poor job at the beginning. Very unimpressed with her. For our first trip: I can't remember exactly what we got, but we ended up spending close to $250-again, ordering 2 double shots of scotch. I've drank scotch for years, and very well know how much it costs, so when the waiter crouched beside me to explain why my bill was "so high" I was mortified, extremely insulted and embarrassed. I loved the food so much I was not interested in making a scene, but I do wish I said something to him now. I've worked as a cook in this industry for 12+ years and despite being young with tattoos and piercings, still know how to be a good customer. I tip well and I eat well, and would prefer not being judged based solely on appearance, especially as if I can't afford to eat there. Second trip was great, no complaints. I love your food, honestly it's incredible, but maybe teach your staff to be less judgemental. Solely based on food alone I'd give it a 5 stars but poor service knocks it down to 4. Will certainly be back, though. The new location is gorgeous. read more

Yummy in your tum tum. Complementary bread could be better. Their Sangiovese was very smooth and robust. Pasta was fresh and delish!!! It's actually a very small restaurant and is always full- so call ahead and reserve if you can! read more

The new location is a must see and visit. What a transformation. Excellent service, food, atmosphere and Nico is a genuinely great person.

This place was fantastic. Had 6PM reservations on a Saturday night. It wasn't crowded, but was busier when we left. My dry martini was great and a bargain at $8.50. We brought our own wine for $20 corkage. My husband had the lamb duo, which he loved. I had the stuffed sirloin, which had a much fancier name, but was essentially was steak, meatballs, and sausage in an amazing tomato sauce. Loved it! The bread was amazing and fresh. Had an excellent cappuccino and creme brulee for dessert. There was a wonderful acoustic guitar player/singer who we really enjoyed. The service was quick - almost too quick, but they weren't rushing us out. Marco, our waiter, was very friendly and helped me choose my entree. They called a taxi for us to return to the casino. We will be back and are so glad we found this gem. read more

My favorite restaurant on Erie St. period. I come here once a year on our wedding anniversary and it's a special treat every time. It is pricey but you get top quality service and food. Recently had the arancini in pesto sauce and that was amazing. The antipasto de mare is to die for. The gnocchi is hand made and a guilty pleasure. Been to all the restaurants on Erie... and this to me is the best Windsor has to offer. read more

Dinner on a Saturday night. Antipasto platter very good, pasta and veal dishes superb. Limited wine choices by the glass, so consider bringing your own bottle, for a 20 corkage fee. Above average service in a small family feel restaurant. Only complaint is virtually non existent parking. I noticed that Mezzo down the street offers valet service....we will try it next time. read more

I worked at Nico's several years ago as a prep cook and dishwasher. I haven't been back in several years and wanted to see if the quality of food was at par with what it was 15 years ago. I ordered the Gnocchi quatro funghi on one occasion and the fettucine with salmon on a different occasion. They were both remarkable in both portion size and taste....the flavors are out of this world and you probably wont be able to finish the plate Nick the owner is also a great guy, I'm happy he has been successful over the years and has maintained an authentic italian restaurant that uses fresh and good quality ingredients after all these years... read more

I went to Nico based on the many recommendations I found on the web. I visited Windsor recently to spend a day at the casino and was looking for a nice place to take my wife out to dinner that evening. Nico's is a very short distance from the casino and from the U.S. border. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were warmly greeted and were impressed by the interior. We started off our meal with a plate of mussels that were very good. For our entree, my wife and I both ordered the Taglitelle Frutti di Mare. At least that's what the menu on their website currently calls it. It seems it was called something else when I was there like Linguine alla Nico, but I may be wrong. Whatever the case, it's a seafood pasta in an olive oil sauce with garlic and tomato and the seafood consisted of shrimp, squid, scallops, and mussels. It too was very good. Everything else on the menu sounded so good, but we were in the mood for seafood and both had to go for the same thing. Overall, I was very happy with my choice for dinner that night and would not hesitate to visit here again. read more

Nico's is pricey but you get your money's worth. The portions are extremely generous, ingredients so fresh i feel like seafood will jump out of my paella which is delicious-paella that is not the fact that seafood can jump. This windsor gem is about quality not number of patrons read more

We have eaten many times. The service is great. Marco is helpful and spot on with his suggestions. Nico is a fantastic chef who manages to surprise us each time with creative, honest food that keeps us coming back! The prices are more than fair considering the quality of the food. This was our first visit to Nico's and hopefully not our last. The food and the service were exceptional. I am Italian and I usually do not eat Italian except at home.. The veal scallopini was delicious. The arancini and salada caprese, excellent. The gnocchi was outstanding and the ravioli with cheese and spinach had a delicious meat sauce that was the best I have eaten at a restaurant in 25 years, not mine of course but close. It does cost $2 to park for 2 hours behind the restaurant, you will need a Canadian coin. Please do not miss this little gem of an amazing Italian restaurant. We had a lovely dinner to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary and it was well worth the hour drive. Buon appetito! read more
