By far, one of the best gelato places I've ever tried. On the main road of Pahoa town, there is a tucked away gelato shop that packs killer delicious gelato. Park on the street or maybe in the residential area. It's a little tricky so prepare to find parking. I ordered the kulolo and mango gelato. My cousin ordered the coffee flavor. The coffee tasted super good - it was strong in coffee flavor but not bitter and perfectly sweet. If you like coffee, this you may fall in love with. The mango was incredibly fresh. It wasn't artificially sweet nor sour, it was as if someone transformed a mango into gelato. Okay, but onto the best flavor I discovered- kulolo. Holy Kulolo!! So delicious, it tasted like kulolo in gelato form. So rich, so delicious, so perfectly sweet and so true to flavor. I CANNOT STRESS HOW GOOD THE KULOLO IS! Prices are of what you'd expect of a local, small, boutique shop of gelato. Don't expect like dirt cheap prices but their portions are quite generous and the quality of their product is well beyond its dollar amount. It will be hard to eat gelato after this...or any frozen dessert, for that matter. This is a hidden gem in such a small, country town. It's a perfect way to escape the heat or get dessert down the street! If you stop in Pahoa, please do yourself a favor and try this awesome, life-changing gelato shop. Nicoco is going to be a staple in Hawaii that you gotta try whenever you go there, I just know it!

This place was perfect! Sara was amazing and had such a wonderful attitude! Definitely recommend after a long day hiking or even just for something sweet!

Great refreshing window place that offers amazing variety of flavors and cup or cone ( all vegan and gluten free) options. Ashley knows her business and ice cream and what delights. Outlet in Hilo a large store front across from Lucy's Taqueria so get some heat there and walk across for a cool and taste bud reset. Do drop in and get a great taste and then get two scoops of fine non cream that you will nor believe it's plant based.

Chillaxin on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

The absolute BEST vegan ice cream anywhere! I wish they were on the mainland so that I could have some everyday. Love that they use locally sourced flavors and fresh ingredients. The couple that owns this business are friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated to the vegan life. I just learned that they are opening their very first storefront on October 27th at 2:00! Can't wait to visit them at 15-2929 Pahoa Village Road.

Happy happy aloha fridays @ Nicocos!

LOVE LOVE LOVE NICOCOS! Ashley and Sean are the sweetest and it is the absolute highlight of my daughters week every friday and the best hangout in P-town! Were so lucky to have this delicious and healthy homade vegan ice cream with gluten free homade cones here! We miss it so much when we travel and it is one of the best things about this beautiful place we call home!

Delicious and savory gelato, better than anything you'd find in a supermarket, with fresher healthier ingredients.

Arrived when the store was still opened, customers standing outside had just been served, and the cashier was too lazy to serve us. Alright.

I must say, these are probably the best mochi balls I've had in my life. Every flavor came to life with every bite. It's very tight inside without any place to sit so be prepared to queue outside if the line is long. You can call in ahead to avoid the crowds. We came at 10:30am which was the pickup time we asked for and waited about 20 minutes in the phone order line before being called into the store and waited a few more minutes and left with our order around 11. They did give samples in line though, so that was nice. I did wish I knew about the additional daily fresh fruit flavors beforehand though so that I could order those when I called! I didn't see it until I came to pick up. The place is small and only enough room for a few people at a time. The strawberry mochi is amazing! Other flavors are good too, so soft and fresh. I think it's worth going if you like mochi and have the time!

Their customer service reply really made up for the previous experience with their staff and they ensured me they would address the issue with their team. :) Old review: I visited the Gypsea Gelato in Kona today and was extremely disappointed with the service. I ordered a single scoop child's cone and was told "We only have our Ube waffle cones, we are out of the rest... but don't worry they don't really taste like ube". I said ok, that should be fine since my daughter wants a cone. When I get to the register, after they had already filled her cone, I was told the price was $8.50 for the child's size ice cream and charged an additional $3 for their "specialty cone". Prior to choosing the cone, I was not told anything about it costing $3 additional dollars. Nor that a kids size scoop for that cone would be $8.50 when it should usually be $4.99. So I paid $11.50 for a child's ice cream. When I brought my concern up to the 3 teenagers working there, they all made me feel as though I was in the wrong for not knowing my child's cone would be $11.50. One of the staff checked to see if there was a price on the front of the sample cone thinking she could rub that in my face but there was no price shared. So, I had literally no way of knowing how much I would end up paying until it was too late and no apology or kindness was shown whatsoever. Another staff member said "we aren't in charge of what they give us"... and to that I say, that doesn't absolve you from sharing the price of this speciality option -which again, was the only cone option offered. Had I known I would be paying $11.50 for a child's cone, we would have happily ordered the $4.99 cup. I'd appreciate if the manager would get in touch with me -not so much for the outrageous cost but more for the fact that their staff provided such poor service in not sharing the price, and not trying to kindly resolve the issue.

As a disclaimer, I'm not the biggest fan of shaved ice because of how sweet the dessert tends to be, and because more often than not, there are a bunch of artificial colors used in the fruit juices. When we looked at the menu, I was impressed and excited to see the emphasis on quality of their ingredients: no artificial flavors or colors, no aspartame, no high fructose corn syrup, and no preservatives. I was sold. Although we were tempted to create our own shaved ice, we ultimately went with "The Local", a soursop and liliko'i combo topped with haupia cream. Between the two flavors, I enjoyed the sour sop side a bit more since it was the one that was less sweet. The cream on top was absolutely delicious, and reminded me of the light and airy frothed milk cream you find on many boba drinks these days. There's a generous amount ladled on top, ensuring you can have some in every bite without having to carefully ration out the cream. Overall, I'm a fan of Kula Shave Ice. Definitely a great dessert to enjoy on a hot day. Worth checking out if you're ever in Hilo.
