Not going to lie, I basically grew up down the block and have literally passed by this place for the past 30 years without going in. The smell was always enticing but the store was a bit intimidating in my younger days. I finally took a leap of faith a couple years ago and decided to go in. The store itself has a old school Italian vibe. It's a small shop and they have wall to wall gadgets to fit your coffee needs. They usually sell two of their freshly roasted beans along with carrying other well known brands. Their beans are very affordable and in my opinion, taste better than other big brand coffees. I usually prefer their medium roast which offers a sweeter nutty flavor. The original owner was a cute and charming older gentleman who was always accompanied by an older dog. I just moved to a not so close neighborhood from this place. But I gave this place a try for its good Yelp reviews and I am so happy I did. The owner was genuinely attentive to my coffee taste and how I make coffee and gave recommendation accordingly. He even treated me a shot of espresso which was a perfectly smooth and toasty, so I know what my coffee will taste like tomorrow. The price is so decent and it's just half the price I am used to from my UES days. I got the feeling that I will be a regular to this place. Let's start by saying this: there is NO coffee for purchase here to drink immediately. You go to Niccoletti if you want homemade fresh roasted coffee beans to grind at home and use on your own. They also have coffee accessories for purchase (pots and such). It is a small dilapidated hole in the wall that I won't be going back, and only went because my brother swears by their beans. But don't go expecting to chat or ask questions. When asked for more information about the bean roasting process, I was told it was "mostly magic" and unexplainable. I was then told a story about how female customers are not allowed bathroom privileges after a suspected drug-user passed out and he had to call an ambulance and female family member to help out. So go with an open mind and if you want good magical beans. read more

He always offers me an espresso and chats me up when I come here. Warning, a transaction may take 10 minutes at minimum! The coffee here is fantastic and not expensive. I went to Nicoletto because I thought they sold cups of coffee/espresso. THEY DO NOT SELL CUPS OF COFFEE OR ESPRESSO. What they do sell is some awesome looking/smelling coffee beans that are roasted in house with this huge machine contraption that they showed me. While I couldn't purchase any because I don't have my espresso maker yet I cant wait to go back next month and buy some. This local store is a small treasure hunting place! Their coffee beans are high quality for half of the price you pay at Manhattan. They have a variety of Bialetti coffee brewing accessories if you enjoy hand crafted coffees, espresso or cappuccino. Their new inventories have the amazing designs and eye-catching colors which I can't decide which one to buy! The first thought than ran through my mind when I walked in was "wow". I just love the vintage Italian decor and the wide selection of coffee machines. You just don't see a store like this in Brooklyn anymore. I have to say the customer service that I received was different than the normal, they treated me like I was family. A faded photograph, a shop stuck in time. The decor is old Brooklyn Italian, 18th Ave prior to my people invading it(sorry). Where Brooklyn native Italians actually spoke italian. They're proud of Italy, and there's pride in soccer. The shop owner? Hilarious in his own right, eccentric/eclectic to some, rude and unabashed to others. When you want to buy some beans? You get a shot of espresso with a packet of sugar, if you want. Something he kind of pushes on you. It just happens, I laughed it off. I like eccentric and unapologetic. Go back to Williamsburg or where ever the hell you transplanted from that's not NYC if you're offended by the original Brooklyn Charm. read more

This place has been here as long as I can remember. I got some great espresso freshly ground up for me and chatted with the owner about what kind of blend he was selling me. I always remember him and his dog sitting outside as one of the great characters of 13th avenue growing up. I felt a bit bad for him though, we chatted for a second and he seemed scared to give out candy on Halloween because someone accused him once of giving the children something bad. This place is quite fantastic, when you enter the store, it's like you step back in time, it's a quaint little store selling different types of coffee knicknacks. The coffee beans is roasted in house. It was pretty tasty, although the best park was chatting up the owner and having him make me a cappuccino. They don't actually sell coffee by the cup, but if you're nice and buy your own milk, you can get your hands on one of the best cappuccinos outside of Rome! There is a big black Labrador in the store but he is really calm and is constantly sleeping. read more

I love a great cup of Joe and this is def a divine taste of Colombian roast that is med/bold yet not to strong but has a great taste. It is now one of my favorites. Grumpy guy I came to NY looking for a full flavour or a selection of coffee beans. He couldn't talk about coffee only his own blend. Which is pretty boring with a slight burnt flavour. Also does a an "American" cofffee which is a very bland Colambian coffee. He talked about Blacks, Jews and about Italians beating their wives. I bought one of each (coffee). Very disapointing. I bought some supermarket ground coffee which I prefered. A "Sumatra" by Starbucks and an Espresso by Medaglia D'oro Got rid of the Colombian coffee and used half of his own blend before dumping it. I give this place 5 stars. This shop is as old-school as it gets. Reminds me a lot of the mom and pop shopss I remember shopping at in the Brooklyn I grew up in, which is an extremely rare gem these days. The coffee here is excellent - your not finding anyone roasting their own beans at ANY Starbucks location, so this is the real deal! Consistantly fresh and aromatic.
