What a great experience! We heard about the West County Regional Trail, that extends from Forestville to Santa Rosa. We found Russian River Cycle Services on Yelp and rang them up. They set us up for bikes the next day. When we arrived, our bikes and helmets were waiting and we were given a map and directions. The day was amazing. So much beauty. I was lost, cycling in a new area because I simply had to get out of Dodge, and Brian was kind enough to take time out of his day to give me directions and advise me on a much safer route than I had planned. I ended going up Harrison Grade and back to Graton, and gorgeous ride, and very safe in traffic. His shop was beautifully arranged, sparking clean, hand sanitizer at the ready. I hate leaving one or 2 star reviews, but I found this place through fellow yelpers and want potential customers to know that this business is sadly unreliable -- from the initial reservation, to dropping off the bike, to giving directions, to charging you for the bike. First, this business was completely unreachable. I must have tried calling their number about 20 times over a 2-day period at various hours and no answer despite the 7 days/week 7am to 7pm stated hours. I left messages too (voicemail and through yelp). It wasn't until 4:45 PM the second day of calling that they finally called me back. At that time, the told me they were out of bikes until the next morning. Nevertheless, I thought I would try to fit it in a very short ride very early the next morning before my family left (lemons into lemonade, right?). Sort of. I stressed that I had until 8:20 the next morning to bike and was staying on a house on top of a very steep hill. No problem, said the owner, be there 7am the next morning. The next morning, I was again left waiting. By 7:15am, no one showed up. I finally got a hold of the company, and she said she had tried to call me, but was unable to get up the hill. I had no missed calls!!! When I asked her what number she called, she gave me some totally different number. I explained that was not my number - she tried to claim I had given her a second number, then eventually just said "whups". Again, really disappointing. Nevertheless, having woken up at 6:30 am to bike, I was determined to make the trip. After driving to town to meet her, I had only 40 minutes left. She told me a non-traffic path was only a "few minutes away," which turned out to be completely not true. I ended up spending most of the trip on a traffic paved road (still pretty though, hard to really go wrong in this setting!). After all that, I was charged $20 (i.e. no real discount of any kind) for a ride that lasted 40 minutes. Before coming to Sonoma, I had hoped that biking through the region would be one of the highlights of my trip. Unfortunately, due to this company, it just didn't happen as planned. read more

This is the place to get bike rentals if you're near the Russian river! Jennifer is very nice, accommodating and reasonable. We had some schedule changes come up but she accommodated them with smiley faces. The bikes are great. Really comfortable high end Marin touring bikes. They were sleek gray, well maintained and without gaudy advertising that makes you look like a tourist in town, though everyone will still know. The bike seats are really comfortable. She delivered and picked the bikes up from where we were saying in Forestville! She also has vouchers for wine tastings and knows the small spots you should check out on the bikes. Brian is knowledgeable, friendly and skilled in his approach to cycle repairs. He discovered the issue that was ruining my Cannondale Synapse Ultegra shifting ....an incorrect cable installation by another well-respected West County repair shop that crossed the shifter cables in the frame tube, causing them to crimp. These guys are great! We rented a bike for the weekend to get around Monte Rio and Guernville and it was such a great way to explore! RRSC set us up and the owner found a nut that worked on my Yakima rack and lent me a wrench that I needed to lock the bike on my rack and figured out a way for us to return the bike after hours (and not get charged for an extra day!) they also gave us a map showing bike trails and quiet roads to get around on...really sweet friendly folks and great service! read more

I rented bikes from Jennifer, the owner of River Rider Rentals just last weekend. She offered a great price, delivery to the vineyard of my choice. She recommended where to start my biking and wine tasting journey. She gave great tips on safety, rules for biking and drinking and mapping out the bike path. She also offered to collect the bikes from any location as long as we locked them up and gave her notice. This was the perfect option for biking through the vineyards. Called River Riders, they were completely out of bikes at that moment. and were busying collecting returned bikes.
