Birthday celebration with my family. Super decorations, the house is dark purple, so very cool. They have a small bar but fully stocked, bartenders are very friendly and they seem to like their jobs. This place is amazing! Last minute reservation on a crazy rainy night. We ordered the first 4 items on the menu - cauliflower, pretzel rolls with garlic dull butter, charcuterie and beets and all were delicious. Seriously - the beets - you would never think that beets, wasabi, radishes, raspberry, mint and chocolate go together, but believe me, they do. I've been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened, and we finally were in the area last weekend. There were only two other tables with people when we went Saturday night around 8 PM. That should've been a sign. The waitress was very nice, but the food was unacceptable. We ordered the hanger steak and scallops and both were so overly salted that we could not eat them. My husband rarely complains about food and he sent his back. It was so salty that you would take a bite and your tongue would literally be coated in salt. I didn't understand the flavor concept they were going for with the scallops. They came with smoked grapes and granola which I just did not think paired well. The portions are very small and the prices are high. I also thought it was odd that they only had three desserts on the menu; I was under the impression this place was supposed to be more of a dessert and cocktail establishment? Drinks are overpriced as well. We left hungry. read more

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. First impressions are huge and this place is so freaking cute. The ambiance is awesome. I took my mother for Sunday brunch and we sat at the bar. We had fried chicken and an everything biscuit and also some lemon ricotta pancakes. Tak about decadence. We were fighting over each bite, yet at the end were both completely satisfied. It's so rare that the portions are so spot on. If I had been in town longer I would have went back to try the regular menu. What an amazing concept. To top it all off, the bartender was super fun and the owner was amazing, as everyone in Austin already knows. I've been waiting for something just like Nightcap in Austin for 7 years and I'm so glad there is a late night cocktails/dessert place now! I had been anticipating it opening so I decided to have my birthday here this weekend with a group of friends. The space is really beautiful and larger than I expected. There's a big bar with an impressive cocktail list! I really want to try them all. My favorite was their version of a Aviation which was called Legs in the Air. I had made arrangements with the restaurant ahead of time and they took some extra steps for my birthday like decorating with balloons. I thought that was super sweet! Speaking of sweet we had a group so we just ordered one of each of the desserts for the table to share. Everything was spectacular and unexpected. My favorites were the Coffee & Donuts and the Rocky Road. Our server was attentive and very funny too. This was a great place for a group and I can also seeing it being perfect for a really romantic date. I can't wait to go back and try some of the savory items as well. Incredible inexperienced bartender. After ordering, she looked at the menu to see what ingredients were in the milk shakes I ordered. She then handed me a glass with two scoops of ice cream and a beer bottle on the side. That is not a milkshake. To top it off, it was missing half of the ingredients listed in the menu. The other milkshake was very heavy on the peppermint, like drinking cough syrup. Accordingly, ordering anything else was not an option. The ambience is nice, but I don't go to a bar to drink water. Paying was also a challenge as the bartender was really struggling to make any drink, a tragic scene. I will go back when there is a bartender with some experience or at the very least talent. read more

I don't even know how to describe last night. The ambiance is nice and the decor minimal. The drinks were terrible and tasted like cough medicine. Our food was even worse. We were given burnt pretzels and a pork dish paired with an extremely sweet banana sauce. I could hardly eat it. Our dessert was the best part unfortunately of the night, but I guess that is to be expected from a dessert bar. I hope this was a fluke and due to it being their first night. I love this place. I have driven past it for about a year, waiting for it to open. The restaurant is beautiful inside and outside, with the colors and the decor. Service is impeccable. The best part is the food-just amazing. My suggestion is order only a few small plates, because you *WILL* want at least one dessert per person :) I went for an early Valentine's day celebration with my boyfriend. Our favorite dessert was the "Salt and Pepper"-this amazing concoction of a chocolate cake (small), with toffee sticks and gelato. WOW. We had two desserts-the other was a Goat cheese parfait, which was pretty darn good too. For the small plates, we had a sweet potato bisque and the hangar steak. Both were great. One oddity we did notice-his menu was different from my menu. My menu listed the sweet potato bisque, his menu didn't. Weird. Fun touch-our check was delivered in a book. Cute!! Came here with a big group for my birthday dinner, however few menu options. The dinner options were a choice between chicken, steak, or scallops. Definitely more of a drinks place than food. I got the scallops which were okay and small portions however not worth the hefty price. Overall, lackluster bday dinner, not even a complimentary dessert or drink. While the service was good and friendly, Nightcap is way overpriced. A very basic old fashioned (with an annoying made up name) was a huge rip off at $14. The charcuterie board was okay, but nothing special and at $18, again, it was a rip off. With so many amazing places in Austin to get craft cocktails and great snacks/desserts, I highly recommend you go elsewhere. read more

We were greeted by the owner who was sitting at the bar, sat at a table and handed menus. After waiting for five minutes we were greeted by a server who told us the kitchen was closed. I love good food, but I love good company and great vibes even more. In a town like Austin, it's not hard to find good food, but some spots come up short when it comes to the hospitality factor. Not a problem for Nightcap. This laidback and inviting place hits the mark in both areas. A friend and I recently stayed at an Airbnb in Clarksville and, while walking around West Austin, we stumbled upon Nightcap. The restaurant wasn't even opened for the evening yet, but Christin, the owner, invited us in and showed us around her place. Since we had plans already, we decided to return to Nightcap the next night for dinner. When we got there, Christin greeted us like old friends. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks (strong and delicious) and checked out the menu. I'm vegan, so there wasn't much on the menu for me to order. No worries! Christin had her chef whip up a vegan risotto like it was no big deal, except that it was a big damn delicious deal. To top it off they MacGyvered a tasty vegan dessert for us. I don't think they realized how much I appreciated that they went out of their way to accommodate my vegan needs! I can't wait for my next trip to Austin so I can visit Nightcap again! read more

This place is fancy. I'm glad I came here dressed up! This place is better for intimate settings and is a great place to go out for a late night dessert date or even dinner date. It is pretty expensive for a college student but a good place to splurge. The inside looks as if you are in someones fancy living room and quiet ambiance-- the aesthetic was nice. I went with a friend and we ordered the sticky and sweet cocktail and then two desserts-- the chocolate sponge cake and dreamsicle. First off, the cocktail was yummy but strong. It had bailey's irish cream, godiva white chocolate liquer, and stoli vanilla. It first had a sweet taste but left the after taste of alcohol, but it wasn't too bad. The chocolate sponge cake was not too sweet and the chocolate and peanut butter surrounding it complemented it well. It was good but I don't think I would order it again. However, the winner of the night was the dreamsicle. Normally I wouldn't reach for a dessert with an orange flavor, but this one was so good! My favorite part of the dessert was the creamy vanilla ice cream. I could immediately tell that this ice cream was made from hand and it had the perfect amount of sweetness and richness. The olive oil cake was a spongy texture that paired well with the ice cream as well. Lastly, the orange sorbet helped end the dessert. I want to go back to try the savory options and need to check out the drinks as well! Overall, like the place! read more

We had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and tasted so clean and fresh we ordered a second one!! The mozzarella mousse was the special appetizer. Totally unique! My boyfriend and I have gone to Nightcap several times since its opening, and we've had a great experience every time! We've been able to try several dishes as the menu has changed, and everything has been creative and delicious. Of all things, I usually don't order chicken breast when I go to a restaurant (usually a boring dish to order), but my boyfriend and I always order the chicken breast to share along with each of our own entrees. It's that good! Seriously, do yourself a favor and try it. I'm also a big sucker for a good soup, and the veloutes and gazpachos that have been on the menu have been so incredible. Even the appetizer pretzels are worth talking about! Of course, the desserts are awesome as well. I love desserts that incorporate sweet and savory, and they have a wide variety of flavors and combinations that I've never found anywhere else. Whether we come here for the full dinner experience, or just for dessert and coffee at the end of the evening, Nightcap is always a great choice! read more

Sad but true story. We arrived about 9:55 on a weeknight. Restaurant stays open until midnight. The place was pretty empty. We stood by the entrance near the hostess stand for several minutes. No one was around. After several more minutes someone finally emerged at the bar straight across the hall that had also been unstaffed when we arrived. That person indicated that someone would be out to greet us. After a couple of more minutes we were finally seated. It was now several minutes after 10. We started reviewing menus. I noticed that on the savory side of the menu it stated that on weeknights you can only order those items until 10 pm. Meanwhile, a server walked by and told us she would be back. However, she offered nothing as much as water, which I would have very much appreciated. The minutes again started ticking away and there was not a staff person in sight. At about 10:10 we left. We'd spent 15 minutes there and accomplished absolutely nothing. read more
