As a true Italian I can tell you this is the blandest mildest pizza I've ever tasted.The pepperonis were falling faster than snow on snowy Sunday and the workers never asked how the food was.Honestly could've been better vivid smell across the whole house. I had a taste for some pizza and was looking for a place that wasn't going to break the bank. I stumbled on to Nighthawk, as it was referred to me. The pizza and wings were good, and the food came out rather quickly. The pizza took more time to come out, so plan accordingly. The staff were great in that aspect. As far as the ambiance, the restaurant reminded me of one of those family restaurants that we used to go to when we were kids in the 90s. It's a mixture of sports bar meet Chucky Cheese. So the ambiance was a little off putting, but once you get past that, it was cool. One last thing, if you're sitting and eating at the bar, the staff will ask for a card to put on file. They'll even swipe it, before you even settle up. So if you plan to use cash or paying through a reward program like InKind, plan accordingly. read more

I would love to gatekeep this place because we are obsessed. From the Midwest and I love my cheese curds and nighthawk delivered cheese curds that are Midwest standard. The fries were ok, nothing special, the wings are pretty good and a great ranch. We had been looking for a good Detroit style pizza in the DMV and this place is the best hands down. We build our own and do pepperoni, ricotta, and hot honey. If I could change one thing it would be to add more ricotta and hot honey, they don't add much. Usually when we do take out I won't add the hot honey because I'll do it myself at home which is fine. Atmosphere is fun and cool since it is s'est yourself and order on your phone. Spacious and kid friendly, is what first comes to mind. The customer service aspect of things was essentially nonexistent. I feel like the extent of the waitress' conversation with us was "hot and honey pizza". There was no "how are you doing" or "would you all like water". It gave more self service, which may very well be the concept here. The pizza wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anything to rave about. So maybe "average" would be the most befitting word. I have become a loyal patron of Nighthawk in recent months. Their pizza is stellar. The crust is perfect -just thin enough. They do have different iterations of crust as well, but we've been so pleased with the Hand - Tossed pizza, we have not ventured away. Love the cheese combinations and the freshness and creative uses of the ingredients! We also enjoy the Caesar Salad which makes a great shared starter. The beer selection is stellar and fun. Prices are quite reasonable by DMV standards. Staff is great. My only little "complaint" is the lack of "comfortable" seating ( there's plenty of seating but none of it is terrible comfy) But you can't have everything - but this comes pretty darned close. read more

Nothing too "wow"....I learned I'm not a fan of Detroit style pizza. Too overcooked for my taste but maybe that's how this style of pizza is. I was just disappointed from the minute I walked in, multiple staff made eye contact with us and never a simple greeting. This is my second time at Nighthawk and I was disappointed in the food and service. I recommend that we do my retirement going here and my guys did a recon. They said that the pizza was average. So, today we should up and I ordered everything for my team. The thin crust meat pizza was burnt and the presentation of the pizza was not appealing to the eyes. The burger and fries was on point. But my Detroit style pizza was amazing, the crust was crispy, the ricotta cheese melt in your mouth. Nighthawk has an outside seating, advantage size bar, big this place is large enough to accommodate at least 100 people. The do have video games and games you can bring to your table. To order you just scan the QR code, which makes it easier to order, but it would be nice to have the face to face with someone. Because they do ask if you want to leave a tip. Well below pizzeria quality pizza, you could taste in the cheese, sauce, and dough. Cheese curds are something not usually on menus in the dmv but these went really well with the beer. Our first priority when traveling once we've checked into our hotel is to find food and beer. We researched a couple places before getting into town and created a DC Yelp Collection to try to keep track. We arrived in town a little later than expected but were happy to see that Nighthawk was still open. Upon walking in we were quite surprised that the place was pretty empty. A handful of people were sitting at the bar and maybe two other tables were filled. Good news for us since we were tired and hungry. Menus are available via QR code at the table. We ordered a couple slices of Jumbo Pepperoni Pizza, BBQ wings, and two local IPAs. We've seen some big pizza slices, but the slices that arrived to our table were huge. If sliced smaller, each can easily be 2-3 slices. Needless to say, I got full pretty quickly. Lots of yummy cheese, good amount of pepperoni slices, and a nice thin crispy crust. Hit the spot! The BBQ wings were good. My husband really liked them. I'm a little picky with my wings and prefer traditional old buffalo wings. But the BBQ wings did have a good flavor and I appreciate that they had a dry rub instead of being smothered with some generic sauce. We both loved our beer, the DIBS and the DITTO. Service was fast and friendly. Although, I was a little disappointed that we needed to remind the server to bring our beer. Extra napkins, sauces, utensils, and water were accessible at a self serve station to the side of the restaurant. Looks like there were games/arcade area in the back. Could be a fun spot to hang out, watch a game, and have dinner/drinks with friends. A selection of their beers are available in Crowlers for purchase in a fridge by the entrance. Some members of my organization came here on a weekday for an happy hour type event and were pleased with the visit. I walked over from the Pentagon, about a 15 min walk. There is metered parking available in the public lots as well as the mall garage if desired. The restaurant offers plenty of room and picnic table seating to where we didn't have an issue finding a private area for our group of 5. The noise level was low and we were able to communicate without screaming. There were no servers taking orders so we had to request food and drink at the bar. We initially ordered beers and then followed it up with pizza a little later. Food and drink were timely, nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered a sausage pizza for our group and took a Detroit style Meats pizza home to my wife. The pizzas weren't bad but they didn't wow me either compared to pizza I've had elsewhere. Slices on the sausage pizza came out quite large and I wished they might have been smaller to better accommodate the group. With the carryout pizza, I had also ordered fries but for some reason they didn't make it on the ticket and I had to request once the pizza arrived without them. A quick fix as they set a record for cooking fries with the turnaround. Service seemed pretty good and the restaurant did eventually get more customers as the time got later but still plenty of space. The pizza was a little pricey but not bad considering all the factors that contributed to a nice organizational event. I'd likely return especially for an organization event given proximity to the Pentagon and available space to accommodate without much concern. They do take reservations, not that it was needed in my case for this visit. read more

The place is bigger than it looks from the outside, so we were able to find a table deep inside to hang out. The menu has your typical options for pizza, plus others if you love more toppings. I'm glad they had a Detroit-style option which my friend has never had before. We split one pizza between the two of us and it was more than enough. It took a little while for it to come out, but it was with the wait. Delicious bread and cheesy. The other items on the menu sound good! We came last night to this place after seeing the great reviews. I support restaurants and hate to see things like this happen. We showed up last night and ultimately sat down at the bar. At no point in the entire experience did any staff assist voluntarily or happily. That runs counter to any brewery or brewery restaurant I've visited. Typically, you have several people excited to talk beer and food. To be fair, it was a fuller crowd. I've been in bigger brewery restaurants though with larger crowds where there was virtually no wait. There were two-three people working at the bar. I'd say maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the bar seats were full. I understand the bar staff likely had tables to pour for so I get it, but they made no eye contact with us whatsoever. They didn't say hello, or I'll be with you in 5-10 minutes. We'd have been fine with it. We tried to flag down the staff and again they didn't make eye contact. We almost left but thought this place gets great reviews, we're missing something. After about 10 minutes, a guy came over to help. He made no suggestions and really did nothing to welcome us or show any level of service. It reminded me of a fast food restaurant where the team member possibly or understandably would rather be anywhere but here. Again there were no drink suggestions, just a withdrawn look like please order so I can move. We ordered food and it did come out fast. When it came out, we got no silverware. We tried to wave someone down and again they actively avoided making any contact with us as customers. Finally, I found some plastic silverware by leaving the bar and walking over to an area. Again, if that's what other customers are given, I'm good but tell me or show me. Then I look halfway through my meal and see some other customers at the bar getting proper utensils with their meal. I didn't understand. We didn't complain or make a fuss. But no one ever checked to make sure we had what we needed. The plastic utensils melted in the food we were eating. Finally, after signaling another bar staff person, she begrudgingly got us regular silverware. The meal was nothing spectacular but not bad. Suddenly we noticed the bar staff towards the end of our visit being more helpful. While you can say well they caught up and trying to focus on the bar, it felt more like we want a tip now so we'll refill drinks and make a presence. Then we received our tab and the amount was wrong. To me, it was a clerical error and they did fix it. If I hadn't been paying attention or asked, I'd have overpaid. Again though, the staff wasn't really concerned about it or acknowledging it happened. I think they just said I'll fix it but no hey sorry about this or this has been happening lately my apologies. We would have stayed longer but it just felt like we'd invited ourselves to a party and we weren't welcome. Let's face it. There's plenty of places to go in a large city where they appreciate your business and you feel welcome. They've got a seemingly fun place, but food and particularly service need vast improvement. This is our backyard bar and we can't say enough good things. The management and staff there are excellent. It's an ideal, easy place for parties and special events. They always have delicious beer on tap, with monthly rotations. They have a great selection of pizza, including gluten free and Detroit style. $5 HH slices are a vibe too. read more

Take out review: I was in the area around dinner time and wanted to try Nighthawk's Detroit style pizza. Ordering on Toast was super easy. I parked (illegally) in the lot across from pentagon row, but I was only there for a few minutes so I'd recommend finding legal parking if you're dining in. When I walked In there was a sign saying "to-go orders at the bar". I was helped immediately and on my way in just a few minutes. While I was waiting I got a glance at the beer list and it looked pretty good! The hot honey pizza had about a 30 minute ride home. It was still hot. I loved everything about this pizza-the crust, the spice, the tad of sweetness. Definitely recommend trying Nighthawk ! read more

TL;DR 2.5 stars This might be a place to go for a drink, but as someone who doesn't drink I went for the pizza and the games. I left partially satisfied with the games and completely unsatisfied with the food. You really can't go bad with pizza, but when it's not quality, don't pretend it's worth $$. The full review: This place is decent for the entertainment but severely lacking when it comes to the food. For a $20 pie I'd better be blown away, but I left this place feeling a bit ripped off. I'm not even sure it'd be worth coming back for their $8 happy hour pizza specials (only available for cheese, pepperoni, or sausage). I was also not a fan of their ordering system. You seat yourself and scan the qr code at the table to get the menu. You're only allowed to see the menu once you type in your name and phone number. Not a big deal, but also why can't I just look at the menu without giving my number? Why do you need that information? The menu has three sections, Happy Hour, Drinks, and Food. The Drinks section is looooong. And for someone not drinking alcohol a pain to scroll through. And the Happy Hour section also started off with several tabs of drinks that so closely resembled the Drinks tab I thought it was broken. Once you select what you want you have to hit a different order button to send it to the kitchen and that's when you enter your details to pay for the food. There are plenty of seating options and I'm sure it can get really loud when the place is full. When we went it wasn't too busy but the music was a lot louder than I was expecting and wasn't really the kind I wanted to listen to for an hour, but that's probably more of a me thing than a restaurant thing. We probably could've eaten outside to escape the noise (but then we'd lose the AC too). The highlight of the venue was the board games. While the selection wasn't that big and the pieces in the game were a bit messy and mixed up, I did have fun playing Battleship for the first time in many years. This last complaint is totally my fault. I had a 10% coupon that I totally forgot to use. And I'll probably not be going back to use it. What a waste. What we got: Tater Tot Nachos - 1* glad we got this with the happy hour special of $8 instead of the full priced $15. Was a joke. It's normal tater tots (that part wasn't surprising), taco bell style cheese sauce (tastes better at taco bell on a taco), hickory smoked pork shoulder (tougher at times and really not flavorful), and pickled peppers (the best part of the whole thing). Oh, and maybe 6 slices of scallion for garnish. I was starving and kept eating this while waiting for our friends to arrive before ordering our pizzas and I honestly started feeling a bit sick. We gave the rest of this dish to our friends when they arrived. Hot Honey Pizza - as a pie on its own, it was ok, maybe 3*. As a pie for $20 it was *1. I'd have been happier with a five dollar Little Caesars and a garlic dipping sauce, thank you very much.
