I used to think of myself as a person who was afraid of haunted house-type attractions, since I'm easily impacted by scary movies. However, I've started going to a few and have learned that I'm not afraid of them in the same way. I get startled by someone jumping out from a dark corner at me, but not truly scared. There's a difference. So, now, I will visit these walk-through attractions with a different perspective. I appreciate the art that goes into making the scenery, I appreciate the different tactile experiences to target all your senses and the camaraderie of other folks who want to experience it together. Nightmare on 13th does a good job at all of it-I especially like how they mix up the scenes to level up the experience from just the same old same. I won't spoil any surprises, so you'll have to check it out yourself. I most love that they do a day haunt where you can walk through the attraction in the light and appreciate the sets without the scary ambience. I do think the price is a bit steep for a walk-through attraction. But so many people go, that the demand must justify the price. read more

2025 was the best year I've ever experienced! The creators truly outdid themselves. I've been coming here for decades! Each year, the creators change the floor layout enough to keep you on your toes. Went last Saturday night. Parking was easy and free, well lit. The entrance was very cool, there's a big courtyard w a fire pit and lots of areas for selfies or that can take a photo that you can purchase. There's a merch stand. Got the VIP pass for both sides. Didn't have to wait at all. But even if you waited, there's lots to see and that's part of the fun. Nightmare on 13th side was done very well. All the scenes were great. The Institute of Terror side was not as scary as it had just one theme but they did it well, we had some laughs in there trying to find our way through some of the scenes. This was a pretty solid Haunted House. It was all indoors and had multiple stories. I had two or three jump scares and for someone who is really desensitized to horror, that is pretty good. For 2025, the asylum (which was an add-on) was actually as good if not better than the main house. As usual, the main gripe about these things is price/value. It was $85 for two people, which is a lot for only an hour or so of fun. I can go to three movies for that price! read more

We went last night and ended up catching up to like 4 groups ahead of us and had 4 more groups catch up to us which completely ruined the scares. I love coming to Nightmare on 13th every year. My first year was on a date back in 2013, and I've been obsessed ever since! The themes change every year, although a few of the rooms stay the same, which I don't mind! My favorite is the spinning tunnel where you feel like you're falling over and can't stand up straight, despite it never moving. They take your photo when you first arrive, and give you a photo slip to hold onto. At the end, you are able to view your photos on the screens as well as purchase merchandise if you would like. Hoodies, lanyards, stickers, etc. A good thing to keep in mind is there IS flashing lights in this haunted house. My sister is epileptic and there weren't any signs I saw personally that notified us, but I had her keep her eyes closed while I found the way out of the maze. The only problem I had, was that this year when going through the maze, we found the exit, and the actor told us we couldn't leave because too many people were in the room ahead of us. Great, and I understand that, but we also had a pretty important health reason why we needed to leave. Forcing us to "go around a few more times" wasn't really okay, so after he tried to distract a couple other people, we went ahead and left. He should have been mindful of that, especially since it was very obvious my sister wasn't okay in that room. I love this haunted house and it's one of my favorites and I hope to keep this tradition! Nightmare on 13th is by far our favorite haunted house to visit during Halloween (we used to live off 1300 S, so it was easy to get to). We have made it a tradition to go every year (occasionally we can't), and have tried to take our nieces and nephews with us so we could spend time doing something fun. Nightmare has changed up the layout over the years as well as props and scenes. It's always fun to see what they've come up with. They have ViP and speed pass options (to bypass the lines) as well as an escape room they've added within the last few years. Outside they have plenty of photo ops for people too. Came all the way from Arizona for this haunted house & it did not disappoint! The details & animatronics were amazing. It took about 30-40 minutes to get through & was definitely worth the money. Love this place! Have gone here every year (minus covid year) and it had never disappointed. Great sets, awesome actors it was just so much fun! Can't wait to co.e back. The only downside was that they used to have a waiting area where there was a theatrical start to the attraction but they did not have it last year. Was a little sad about that as it was a unique addition that most places don't have. Please bring it back!! read more

This was such a cool place and the decor was great! You can totally watch people get scared while you wait in line. The anamatronics were incredibly impressive. They also have people on bungies that jumped out and springed back super fast. There was tons of jumping moments and the decorated rooms were impeccable. My only complaint is that the staff should smile or be more smiling (where applicable, like at the lines). It would make the guests feel more welcome and less like they are forcing you to be there later than you want. Also, at one point in the haunting, something sprayed air as you walked by and it totally smells like an "old man fart" which was really, really unpleasant. We know this was part of the haunting experience because all 4 of us got sprayed with this air thing. Still a great experience and worth the cost, or a great date idea! read more

I probably had a little more fun then the others in my group (4 total) because I was the first one to go through and that tends to be the person they scare the most. I screamed so much! This is one of the things I live for! I think this year they did a really good job. I think it would be smart/better if they didn't scare the first person 95% of the time. In my case it made in entertaining for the group we did the Institute of Terror after and that was good. Nightmare on 13th was definitely better though! My first time walking through this haunted house was on Friday the 13th (4/13/18). I've seen pictures and heard stories about how great this place was but was always too chicken to actually visit. It took about 45 minutes to go through the house and boy is it scary! You have zombies coming to life, machined animals popping out of closets, scary masks with chainsaws, and creepy people holding butcher knives. And if that doesn't creep you out, the different rooms will! There are some with moving scenery and if you're not careful, you can easily hurt yourself. There are some stairs and some very narrow so be careful of that too! It's best to upgrade and buy tickets online. The line to get in and buy tickets were ridiculously long. Not sure if it's like this during their regular season, but it looked like an hour wait in line. read more

Going into this I was pretty skeptical and somewhat determined to be unimpressed. It's just that haunted houses can be stupid expensive and often seem cheap. That's what I was expecting here. I couldn't have been more wrong! Nightmare On 13th was pretty freaking legit. It was so well done! The whole thing was just clever and creative and I really appreciated it. It didn't seem cheap and tacky at all! The theming is cool and the scares didn't seem to get repetitive to me at all. Also, the scares here are all in good fun which I really liked. I never felt unsafe or that things went too far. It was just enough that I was screaming and laughing my way through the entire thing. I also liked that they take your picture and you can download it afterward for FREE. Usually places like this just try to scam you for every dollar, but I think this place genuinely wanted you to have a good time. I do still think that $25 is too steep, but all haunted houses around here are overpriced like that. With that being said, THIS is the best one! So pick this one! read more

I like many others had the sad experience of being put through the haunted house or 'nightmare house' with tons of people which would have been great. However I was shocked even in the beginning at how quickly they put us into the building within 5 seconds of them letting the people right in front of us into the experience. I basically had to self monitor myself as the people in front of us were so close and there was a very large group behind us that was basically on top of us the whole time. It really ruined the entire experience for me and my wife. Ironically they had several staff in hallways monitoring things yelling as groups to 'keep it moving' which was insane as we were literally in a line. They should have been staggering people more but had the exact opposite approach... Too add - we were stopped at least 5+ times for substantial amounts of time because they really had way too many people piling up on top of each other. We even bought our photos at the end for the 'COVID mask' keepsake and it was seriously so loud in that room that we could barely hear the nice people trying to help us. -5 for the managerial staff for their sub-par line organization and +5 for the lower level staff trying to make the best with what they had at their disposal. If it wasn't for them this experience would have been a complete disaster. We paid almost $100 with skip the line tickets and photos. We did save a lot of time from the normal line and the crowd was largely young (high school/college aged) but that wasn't a big deal. Maybe they think that because the crowd is younger that they don't have to be as accountable? My bottom line: If the line is long... the line is long. Don't ruin the experience over demand. It ruins your reputation and what I will now tell my friends. I would give the actors a 4 or a 5 but to get my point across that is why I give a 1 star. If you had a similar time I encourage you to share your experience as well! read more

It can be the best haunted house in Utah one visit, and be sub-par another. Try to avoid going when it's crowded, as they struggle to accommodate, and the show suffers significantly because of it. Some other points: The set design is the best in the state, and they don't rely on darkness to scare you. They manage to scare without deafening you (sometimes) read more

I can't speak on the other years previous to 2017 because that has been the only year I've gone. A group of four of us went and it was so much fun. It took about an hour to go through the entire haunted house so I definitely feel like it's worth the money. This is a HUGE warehouse they have dedicated specifically for Nightmare on 13th. The building remains decked out even while it isn't October anymore. Although the haunted house is only open for tours during October (it may open slightly before in September), and it goes through Halloween. Really cool special effects and my husband read that it was voted one of the top 100 haunted houses in America. It may have been closer to top 10 but I am not entirely sure! read more

It was so fun loved the actors and the props which they waited to let people go through so it wasn't just a huge line

My husband and I spent $70 to go tonight. We were expecting this to be better than The Fear Factory, where we went last year (which we LOVED). We were really disappointed. The short version: The general admission attraction was slow moving, too loud, and boring. Too many animatronics, too few actors, and not enough space for the actors to really do much where they were stationed. The additional "X-Scream Area 13" attraction was pitch black the whole way through. It was just irritating trying to walk in the dark for a long time while wet things occasionally hit you in the face and random pairs of hands sporadically caressed your head. The long version: Although the sets and animatronics are elaborate and clearly pricey, the actors were lackluster. The poor crowd control meant an unending shuffling line of people. We went soooooo slowly to try not to run into the people in front of us. We shambled along narrow corridors like a line of cattle. The actors seemed to have memorized lines that they recited at the general room. The background noise (music? Sound effects? Unclear) was so loud that the actors were shouting to be heard. A couple times I stopped and leaned in to hear them. I asked one of them to repeat themselves so I could hear them. The kid behind us was having a great time. He appeared to be somewhere between 9-12 years old. I wouldn't go back even if it was half the cost. I wish I could get back our $70. Don't go. Do the Fear Factory. Much, much better. read more

i have been meaning to go to this haunted house since i moved to slc 5 years ago. i was pretty disappointed with my experience. the actors looked cool and the scenery was nice. the music and speakers were set to the loudest setting and often hurt my ears. we were forced into into a big group and ended up getting the scares ruined for us. i also had to deal with constant sudden stops and running into people that would stop walking. read more

Without a doubt the best haunted house I've ever been too. I was out in Utah on training w/ the National Guard and luckily was able to meet a friend from my unit when we deployed and we hit dinner then hit Nightmare on 13th. We had an absolute blast. I honestly didn't know I couldn't take a picture at a certain part of the haunted house . Instead of telling me something like "Hey you can't use you camera here" any type of vocal warning... an employe aggressively launched at me trying to block the camera . Since it was kind of dark it took me a second to realize it was not a monster trying to scare me and what he wanted me to do. I immediately put my phone away and that was that. The situation was improperly handled, that type of correction was uncalled for. I was there to enjoy the experience, not cause and disturbance. I was in town to visit my daughter who is at U of U and we decided to go here for opening night 2022. All I can say is "wow!" I've never been to a haunted house like this. Even Six Flags and Universal Studios, with all that $$$ and resources, are fairly "meh." I loved everything about it--the scale, the pacing, the animatronics, the costumes, the jump scares, the working through various horror themes.... It's worth a trip to SLC just to see this. read more

I would like to start this review by saying I have gone to nightmare on 13th 2-3 times a year every year since I was 16. I have always absolutely loved this haunted house! I love that it changes every year, that the building is repainted, that they really put in the effort to scare you! This year my boyfriend and I went and I have to say I will not be returning again this year. I was extremely disappointed by the lack of change because I remember most of the layout from the previous year and there was not as much effort put into scaring people. Positive side of this experience: -As always, I love how much effort is put into the costumes and makeup. -The wait was not terribly long for a Thursday, so that was nice. -I love that they keep you entertained up to the point you enter the actual haunted attraction! Negative side of this experience: -As with most haunted houses, we got tangled into a group of about 20 towards the middle. I would love if this haunted house utilized like a red light/green light system or something to better manage that, but I understand that is a lot of work to put in. -There was ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGE this year in the layout or really anything. I have loved in years past how they kept you on your toes with different themes and layouts, so I was really disappointed that this did not happen. -Actors although some played their part EXTREMELY well, did not put in effort to the character they were playing. Overall, I will continue going to nightmare on 13th every year until they decide they are done. I have always loved this haunted house and never had any issue up until this year and with the reputation they have built for themselves, I am EXTREMELY disappointed. Out of the 4 main haunted attractions in SLC (Fear Factory, Chaos Castle, Strangling Bros, and here) this one is by far the best this year. 5/5 stars! Definitely check it out! After paying $25 online, we drove up around 8:30pm, found parking easily in the lot, and stood in line for 20 mins before starting our scary journey inside. They have great things to see while waiting (huge dragon, video of folks getting scared inside, short videos with voices/animatronics), so the wait wasn't bothersome at all. Once inside, we went through what felt like 25 different rooms each with their own theme. Brilliant! My favorites were the brick wall ledge and the hanging jason masks. There was a ton of variety, and the actors were on their A-game. It took about 45 mins to get through everything, and you can take a drink/candy break for cheap at the end and view your formal pictures. We downloaded ours from the website for free instead of buying printed ones. Awesome haunted house! read more

If you have small phobias like fear of heights, claustrophobia etc but enjoy being scared then you'll have a really fun time getting legitimately freaked out! And it was short lived and the actors had TERRIBLE B.O. I waited in Line for over an hour and 45 mins just to get in, only to be rushed through some of the foulest smells and un-original use of props and space I have ever seen only to come out at the end in 15 mins and trying to get the smell and nausea to go away! But if you're a TWEEN and you want low quality, enjoy over spending and like to wait in line all night long then this is definitely your scene. read more
