What a frickin' tourist zoo Niketown is. Bring a bag of bananas to feed these crazy beasts. While Niketown makes it as easy as possible to get in&out purchasing per sales people and their palm pads, the sheer amount of tourists here is astounding. I've never needed some air Jordan's on vacation, but apparently tourists can't get enough. The shoes that Nike produces these days are in fact awesome though. I heard they put more r&d into them than computers these days. I wish I had the new age nikes in the 90's when I played serious sports, ergodynamic lightweight awesomeness. I think this is the grandest Nike Store I have ever been to. Nike produces the Air Jordan footwear which was endorsed by former Chicago Bulls basketball player Michael Jordan, so they better represent Chicago. lol. This store offers 5 levels of the latest and greatest Nike merchandise. Everything is expensive as hell, which isn't a surprise. I typically purchase all my Nike apparel from department stores or from the Nike Outlet anyway. lol. What makes this Nike store different from others is: -- Collection of Air Jordan's from over the years -- Hanging display of flat gold plated shoes that are strategically placed together as a puzzle to create a silhouette of the jumpman. Other than that, it is pretty much like all the other Nike Stores, just bigger. They also have a Nike+ Running and Nike+ Training Club (NTC) which are all free. The NTC sessions look amazing, and I wish they offered those services in San Diego. ---------- "RUN CHI" SIGN Chicago has a pothole problem, and often times they are not appropriately addressed. Artist Jim Bachor became frustrated with the increasing number of potholes in his neighborhood, so he took it upon himself to do something about it. Each pothole he came across were not only repaired, but transformed into mosaic art pieces. Bachor then started a "Pothole Installment Series" and Nike Chicago wanted a pothole piece for themselves. ---------- CONS -- They should have more memorabilia throughout the store especially treasures from the Chicago Bulls and/or Michael Jordan. Nike Chicago is a small let down these days. Offerings seem very limited along with its basic retail store set-up. Of course, back in the day when they had a large tribute to MJ as part of the decor it was a real experience to visit. I feel they could have themed the store better with all the great stars they have representing the company. Anyway, just an average store now that gives you more motivation to just stay home and go online to shop. I just left here, where I was buying a few last minute items for a Nike-themed party. With the terrible level of service here, the ONLY reason I didn't drop everything in the middle of the floor and walk out was to have something for this party. I went to the third floor (women's). I waited 10 minutes, making clear eye contact with about 3 employees (who were chatting with each other) while holding the shoe-of-interest. FINALLY someone realized I needed help. I asked for my size. She brought back my requested size, then WALKED AWAY, without waiting to see if the shoes fit or if I had any questions. I actually needed to go up half a size. So I waited ANOTHER 10 minutes for another employee to ask if I was ready to check out (with the ill-fitting shoes I was holding). I told him I just needed to go up a half size. He got the shoes, then HE disappeared. Seriously. I wandered around, interested in checking out the yoga gear, as I am also a yoga teacher and would love to break rank and wear something other than the teacher-cult brands of lululemon or Alo. NOT A SOUL HELPED. They chatted with each other, until one finally saw me holding multiple pairs of yoga pants and said, "We got lots of new stuff, huh?" This is a tourist attraction and not really a great place to get Nike Apparel if you are looking for very specific items. The staff, kind of mean, isn't as knowledgeable on the products as you would think they should be and the selection here is very limited. The only interesting thing about this store (and the location) is the Air Jordan merchandise. Keep in mind that Chicago sales tax is pretty high and this store naturally has high prices. I like visiting the big Nike stores when I travel to other cities or countries, they usually have unique items that you can only get at their location... I came to buy shoes and just eventually just left because nobody would help me. 50% of the store employees were just hanging out by the front door doing what appeared to me to be nothing. For runners out there it is just p-e-r-f-e-c-t!! I walked in the store on a Tuesday in early December, and was helped by a lady who really knew her stuff. I told her that I was looking for a shoe that would be good to train for a half-marathon AND that I could customize on line. She found the right pair, and took me to the computer for the rest of my 'experience'. In a few words, you can - choose your width - have a different size for your left and your right foot - customize EVERY SINGLE aspect of your shoe: base color and material, overlay, the swoosh, the laces, the sole,......EVERYTHING. - you can finish up by IDing your shoes with your name or whatever you want as long as it is 6 characters long. You place your order, and get your own very unique shoes in the mail 2 weeks later!! But the experience doesn't stop there: the Nike+ world is now open to you.....a chip in your shoe and you can do wonders!!!!!!!!! Go check for yourself. I just love it. read more

I don't wear Nike shoes, but I do really like their clothing and accessories. But you know what I like the best about this NikeTown? FREE MASSAGES the day after the Chicago Marathon! That's right, just bring your bib number or race medal, and you'll be treated to a relaxing chair massage. But don't even think about trying to talk your way into getting one if you didn't bring the proper documentation. I can't tell you how many people tried to finagle their way into getting a massage by trying to show a photo of themselves with their medal or asking "can't you tell I ran by the way I'm walking?" Rules are rules, people, and they are strictly enforced at NikeTown! You can also get your name screened onto a shirt for the race if you purchase one at the store, but expect a long wait. Other than that, it's a little hard to maneuver around inside and up to the multiple floors, but they do have a lot of merchandise here. read more

This is review is for the Nike Lab pop-up by Virgil Abloh. The concept of the space is incredible and shall I say commendable. Virgil provides an immersive experience that allows for creativity to be shone. Unfortunately, when you are trying to tap into your imagination to put it down on paper at one of the work station, and one of the gals working keeps moving you because she is closing that station down, it becomes too difficult to fully experience the lab. I understand that the workers want to get to their homes, but if you are scheduled to a certain time thats because of the availability you provided. There is no reason to start pre-closing an hour in advance. I would hope Nike provides at least a 30min period after closing time for the employees to close the shop. Therefore, it is not polite to remove people from the work stations you are promoting. These actions cause those who enter the shop to feel as if they are not welcomed. read more

I am a huge Nike fan. I live in "Track Town" also known as "Nike Town" in Oregon. When I saw this store I was so excited, 4 floors of NIKE?!?! Sadly, I was very disappointed in my trip to NikeTown. My husband shopped with me, he is a big Nike fan as well (the crazy guy always wears matching Nike garb when he competes in marathons). He loved NikeTown. The first floor was mainly basketball attire, for men. Okay, no big deal. The second floor had half women's athletic apparel- specifically just those fancy new sheer tank tops and a few pairs of running shorts. Then shoes. Third floor? More shoes. Forth floor has to be more women's apparel right? Nope. Men's clothes again and a meager section for children. If you are a Nike gal, you will be very disappointed. This place is ideal for guys and for shoe searchers. Otherwise, the women's selection is lackluster. Will have to get my Nike gear at Khols or Target instead! read more

This review is solely for Nike's free NTC classes that are held in a studio in a building next to the NikeTown store. Nike originally had an NTC studio in Lincoln Park that unfortunately closed down before I could attend any classes. Luckily for me, they set up shop on Michigan Ave and their classes were a staple in my fitness schedule until I recently moved away. First off, did I mention that they are FREE?! Classes in the city range anywhere from $15-30+, so finding a spot that offers free workouts 4 times a week is definitely something that anyone who works out should check out. Though, I must preface that most of the attendees are women, with the occasional male presence (especially in the NTC classes). Their weekly classes include yoga, barre, and NTC (basically an instructor led class of the Nike NTC app) and they all are AWESOME! They also have an occasional addition, such as a booty dance class and tabata. The instructors are all fantastic and they actually normally teach at studios across the city, such as Shred415, AIR, Barre Bee Fit to name a few. Some have even been nominated as the best trainers in the city/nation, which makes it really incredible that you can take classes with them for free. My favorite class has to be the NTC one because it really kicks your butt into gear and is a great 45 min. workout. Having instructors demonstrate the exercises that are in the app is really invaluable because you can learn to do them properly and later add them to your regular fitness routine. For you fitness buffs, I would definitely like NTC Chicago on Facebook and sign up for classes through the provided link. Classes do fill up though, so I recommend signing up for classes a week in advance during the morning. read more

Convince you to pay 3-4x the right price for items amid loud edgy music & then refuse to honor exchanges or refunds even if you have the receipt & less than 30 days after you bought it. Yep, that's pretty much this Niketown in a nutshell. Bought a finisher shirt from the Chicago Marathon on Oct 13. Needed to try & exchange it (I live out of state) so I sent it to a friend with a receipt to exchange. They were out but since the friend didn't have the card it was purchased with, they would only give cash/store credit at last price in system ($14 for a shirt I paid $42 for with the visual proof in front of them). I've bought thousands of dollars worth of Nike gear in the last several years but their refusal to make this right insures I never will again. Congrats, Nike Chicago. Clunk. That's my assessment of Niketown's redesign. This store used to be a vibrant maze of color and products, and it always seemed like there were loads of store associates available to help. After many months of being shuttered for renovation, this store has reopened with a new layout and new light fixtures, ostensibly to offer a different customer experience. The maddening escalator placement appears to be somewhat altered, but is still maddening nonetheless. This store seems emptier in goods, sales associates and customers. While it used to feel like an "event" to come to Niketown, now it just feels like any other store. On top of that, it's Fall, it's cold, and they had no Nike gloves or hats. None. What are you supposed to go running in? (Adidas gloves and hats!) WTF, Niketown (or whatever your new name is, because you were by far more awesome when you were actually "Niketown"). read more

This is the worst waste of space I have ever seen. Sports authority carries more Nike products than this store. I went this past Saturday to purchase soccer cleats for my godson, and they only had 3 styles of regular outdoor cleats (he needed turf soccer shoes). I proceeded to ask one of the sales reps what was the smallest size they carried in men's cleats, she said a 6. I went back one level to the men's area and asked about a particular pair of soccer shoes to which I was then told the smallest they carried was a 7.5. In the end we left empty handed. It is bitterly cold day in and day out, but don't you think for a minute this is going to derail my efforts to remain fit and get in game shape for the upcoming Chicago Summer. Step into my shop of necessities if you will. My most recent annual January trip yielded the following down low: *a pair of The New Nike Air Pegasus for everyday outdoor running *a pair of The New Nike Zoom Structures for indoor cardio *a pair of The New Nike Zoom Equalon for casual wear *& a pair of The New Nike Air Max Motos for travel Shoes only tipped the scales at over $500 after Daley took his cut, but I was good to go and had more damge to do. From there, 2 Nike Storm Fit Jackets, 2 pair of Nike Windless Running tights, in addition to 8 pair of dri-fit athletic socks brought the grand total to about $1200. Kinda pricey, but I'm investing in my Summer, and doing so while protecting myself from the harsh Lakefront elements for the next few months. I've been buying my fitness apparel here and only here since I first moved to Chicago. It's an important enough as Whole Foods when prioritizing my survival protocol. The staff must have physics degrees, because they know everything about every single item that they carry. I like that. Do they send their employees to Oregon for a 2 year Nike Residency program or something? I'm seriously impressed. The store has multiple levels with sections divided by sport and gender for your convenience. Even if you know what you want, I encourage you to walk the entire store ceiling to floor to see what you are potentially forgetting for yourself or if something catches your eyes for a loved one. When it was all said and done, it was a big day for me walking out of here. In the rough streets of Lakeview, you have to bring it or risk being left behind. Nike did an awful job handling the Chicago marathon finisher gear. They are usually bad but this year was ridiculous. The gear was supposed to be at fleet feet but never delivered it. Instead they only had it available at their "lovely" Michigan Avenue store. I made the trip down there, paid a fortune to park, walked through crazy downtown foot traffic to find out that all of the gear was pretty much gone. No joke, I walked up to the first free salesperson and asked if they had any finisher gear. He grabbed another salesperson who said "it's pretty much gone". I said "ok, well I'll look at what you have". He responded "how? We put it all away in storage" and looked at me like I was bothering him. Seriously? I'm there to pay their outrageous prices for stuff just because they bought the rights to stamp "Chicago marathon finisher" on it and they don't even want my money? I honestly hope another company gets the rights to the marathon gear next year. Nike has no idea how to handle it. I also hope I never have to step foot in the downtown Nike store. Hands down the biggest Nike store I've ever been to. The staff is friendly. The layout is fantastic and everything is easy to find. They even have a large online order screen if you're looking for something they don't have it store. The only thing I would change? Having a bigger women's selection. The whole first floor is women's attire and shoes but there was no golf attire but for men and that was the 4th floor. I know you can't please everyone but after seeing the men's selection I definitely wanted to check out what they had for us too. Just a friendly suggestion. read more

Needed new running gear since the Shuffle is approaching and wanted to get it in enough time to break it in; prior to race day. Surprisingly enough, I found shoes, pants and a jacket in my respective sizes. And their pants come in longs! They were actually 1cm too long on my legs! Saweet. Im super happy with the products, but the store was set up oddly; it doesn't really flow. And like it has been stated, the customer service was lacking. I had to seek out employees, instead of them trying to be informative to customers looking to purchase (hello you are losing money!).
