Nikko is the perfect place for date night, business dinner, or just pure culinary enjoyment. The staff here is very professional, courteous, and friendly. There are plenty of good choices on the menu (the mushroom risotto is excellent, which shows the breadth and scope of this Japanese restaurant). Again, the wait staff here is very attentive, always checking in and refilling our water or clearing our dishes. In particular, our waitress Lynn is amazing and made us feel right at home. She knows the menu inside out and had recommendations ready for us when we inquired (sake, appetizers, rolls). On top of that, she is very friendly and kind, which added to our positive dining experience. If I were starting a restaurant, I would hire all of my wait staff to be similar to Lynn in character, charm, work ethic, and customer-centric focus. For dessert, Lynn recommended the ube cake -- it was one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. If you want a big roll selection I suppose this is worth a try. If you want something further up the food chain like Nigiri or Sashimi you're going to pay a pretty penny to figure out this might not be the spot for you. I was excited to see chalkboard specials but the pricing looked like it was for 2 pieces of Nigiri but it was for 1 piece and the two choices we made were not very good (seaperch and ankimo). The tempura tipped us off immediately (greasy and overly fried, they looked like onion rings from a hamburger joint), and I'm afraid the sushi was that good, especially considering the price. Tried Nikko for lunch and was not disappointed, it was absolutely delicious! I had the Nabeyaki Udon, which had the broth in a tea kettle for an added touch of elegance. The one thing I would have changed was to hold off on the bonito flakes, they overpowered the broth. I ended up taking them out after eating a few of them. Overall tasty tho. The sushi was delicious and I had a few bites of salmon and a California roll. Chicken teriyaki was also very good. I want to try the Matsunomi Cream pasta next time, but I wasn't in a pasta mood at lunch. We came all the way from Missouri to visit this restaurant and we had no idea what to expect. Our server was knowledgeable and gave us some tips and recommendations on how to pace our evening. Consequently, this place gets my most superior rating, one that goes on top of my 5-stars, and that's the Kurt V "Wowza" award! What Nikko did the best out of all the other omakase I've been to is presentation. They brought out all the fish, hung it up in front of you, then explain what you're about to eat. Very cool. They have this one salmon dish where they hang 3 slices of fish over a bar then light a fire underneath. Even the appetizer dishes are presented in this extravagant setup. The sushi taste normal, like the other omakase places. The dessert was actually pretty good, it was this taro cake thing... I was very surprised. The environment can be loud since the omakase seatings are mixed in with the rest of the restaurant. To my surprise, it came served on a wooden board with endive and ginger sticks with a side of Gochujang. Super delicious and the flavors were very complimentary. This is one of the only restaurants around that purchases and prepares a WHOLE Bluefin Tuna with a carving show on Thursdays. To beat the Valentine crowds, we booked a reservation for lunch the day after. It was to actually celebrate my birthday. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much, but this place delivered beyond! The fish was fresh and everyone was super nice. We took advantage of the Valentine's Day omakase course. It was a really good deal. 1 glass of champagne (we subbed it with sake), there were 7 courses, but the 6th course had a 4-piece sashimi tasting and a 5-piece nigiri selection so really it was 14 courses with dessert for $130! Everyone was super nice and attentive. They have really cool events like the whole tuna cutting thing on Wednesdays, I believe. There's plenty of parking because it's in the same parking lot as the Southlake Town Square. It's really light and bright on the inside -- it's surrounded by windows. This is a great place to go on a date, to just go for lunch or have a nice dinner. Definitely recommend and would come here again. read more

I will admit, after seeing where it was located, I grunted a little. All I could think of, was the hassle of trying the find a parking space. Thankfully, I went around lunch time, and the parking wasn't an issue in the area where Nikko is located. Talk about Nikko, Nikko is beautiful. What first grabbed my attention was the outside dining space, it was so perfect. The weather, the flowers, the location; just beautiful. Because I was a little under the weather, I chose to place an order to go. As I walked in, the young lady was very pleasant and was anxious to help with whatever questions I had. After seeing the menus, the multiple menus, I was a bit confused and didn't know where to start. The hostess was spot on and was well versed when it came to the menus, I was impressed! Excellent, hospitality! When I see a menu that large, I tend to stick to what I know is ordered most. Yes, I watch too many Gordan Ramsay shows and learned how how to navigate large menus, go for what is ordered the most. That way, you'll always know the food will be fresh. Menu: Miso soup: I'm a fan of miso soup, heck, miso all together. I did think the broth was a little too light for, I prefer a stronger miso taste; but it did hit the spot and was enjoyed. Spider Roll: Was delicious, I love soft shelled crab, the crab was so fresh and very good. Blue Crab Roll: I actually really enjoyed this roll; it was my first time to have this roll, and it will not be my last. The crab was fresh and plentiful, there was no skimping. Ube Mille Crepe Cake: I was pleased, I finally found a balanced dessert where Ube was the main ingredient. Well, done! Overall, I enjoyed this new discovery, and we will definitely be visiting again. As someone mentioned below, this is the perfect date night spot, you should get there early evening, and you'll have a better chance of finding a decent parking spot. Came here for what we hoped for a quick dinner. It was packed on Tuesday night ! That was surprising. The place was modern and lit up and bright. Very nice restaurant! Lots of friends, lots of intimate dates in the booths. All the food looked amazing. We got the half priced oysters, tasted like a ponzu sauce and pickled wasabi. It was very tasty but very tiny. I can't imagine paying full price for these. The Wagyu lettuce wraps tasted like bulgogi marinade. The beef quality did not taste like Wagyu. So we liked it but didn't love it. The table near us got the fried chicken lettuce wraps and that looked better. The protein roll is our fav. I love a carbless roll. This was hefty but so was the price tag. Overall the food was good but expensive. We were on our way to another dinner, so wanted a light quick meal. It was $70-80 for the 3 dishes and took 2 hrs. Heard along the vines that this was a must try sushi restaurant so here I was! Decided to celebrate my birthday here with my fiance and it was pretty good! Checking in was smooth with a reservation, but man it was busy on a Saturday evening. Ambiance wise: Tables felt stacked on each other, asked for a half booth seating and each table was less than a foot away. Wasn't just the half booths, but the other tables on the floor were literally right up on each other lol. It made it so hard to get out to use the restroom. Went to Nikko for lunch. Their lunch special was a good deal, had two rolls of sushi (classic and specialty) along with multiple sides, this was my favorite thing we ordered. I also ordered a ceviche roll from the regular menu and while the role was good, for the same price as the lunch menu, I liked the lunch menu roll better. I ordered the Emerald as my drink and the coupe it was served in was pretty small but I enjoyed the drink, it was refreshing. Pretty good! - Yellowtail crudo (5/5): Chef special (testing out something new) that we received as friends of the chef. - Toro tuna roll (5/5): My favorite roll! Generously filled and perfectly tasty. - Lobster roll (5/5): Loaded with fried lobster and stuffed with crab salad, this was worth every dollar. Toward the end of our meal, our waitress removed our plates while we were still eating--I was still finishing up before my plate was taken away. Her name started with m. We weren't provided with enough soy sauce plates or appetizer plates, and the napkin at my seat was torn. We had to wave down the waitress several times to get her attention to even get our water filled. The most concerning was how the check was handled. We were not asked if we wanted separate checks, and before we realized, the bill was brought to our table and was automatically split in half without clarification and expected all of us to pay for other people's food. No It should be restaurants responsibility to ask before hand whether any parties are together or will be splitting checks. This left us all in an awkward position of having to sort out and calculate what each person owed afterward, including food items we did not personally order. In a professional dining environment, it would be expected for the server to inquire ahead of time how guests would like to handle the checks and ensure it is accurately divided based on what was consumed and not places the guests in an awkward and unfair state to pay for everyone else's food! The Madai sushi had a nice little kick to it. We also ordered the torched sake toro, which was one of my favorite dishes of the night. The fish was juicy and dense, and it melted in my mouth as soon as we started eating it. We got two rolls. The rainbow roll was fresh, but I felt the crab flavor was a bit too strong for my taste. My favorite dish of the night was the Spicy salmon roll. I made it crunchy, and it was very fatty and flavorful. I also liked the sauce they used on top of the roll. I would definitely order it again. Overall, this is a beautiful restaurant with good quality fish.
