I had a very negative experience with Nikola Tesla Electric. I contact them for an electrical inspection for insurance purposes. At the time I did not personally know that there are "certified electrical inspectors" and that electricians such as Tesla electric are not certified nor qualified to do home inspections for insurance purposes. Kostas certainly knew this or at least should have. Kostas was in the home for about 10 minutes during which he identified knob and tube wiring in the attic. He then proceeded to fill out his job form saying that the home was completely unsafe and needed a complete re-wiring for a cost of $20,000.00 He charged me $350.00 for this 30 minute service. However I felt he was wrong. I had a second electrician coming the same morning and he contradicted Kostas 100% saying there is nothing wrong with the knob and tube. He also recommended a "certified electrical inspector" to come and inspect the home and provide me with the document I needed. The inspector also contradicted Kostas of Tesla Electric. He documented that the knob and tube was safe and in good working order. He also said that the house had already been re-wired and that the home had 100% modern wiring with the exception of the knob and tube in the attic. The home needed nothing improved with the exception of a panel added to the breaker box ( $250.00 total cost) I contacted Tesla Electric with this information suggesting he refund me my payment since he got it so wrong. Kostas refused and insisted that the house was a fire hazard. In my opinion Tesla Electric is not not an honest business. read more

Short Version: If you need an electrician and you don't reach out to Kosta at Nikola Telsa Electric, you're messing up BIG TIME. This guy's the BEST. Longer Version: I'm always on the look-out for service experts who tell me what they're going to do and then do it. I want honest, dependable, experience. When I find them, I'll put their sticker on the appropriate panel or door in my home and always call them first. Didn't have an electrician, so I knew I was in for trouble when the power went out in half my house. During the coronapocalypse, I'd gone into my office, went to plug in my laptop for a Zoom meeting, and I heard a "FFZZZT!" just before the power cycled. TV went out in the living room; lights, clocks, routers & printer all cycled in the other rooms. Odd, but everything came back on. I poked around, looked for the cause, couldn't find anything, figured it was a short in the extension cord for the laptop plug, so I changed that out. Had my Zoom meeting, joined the bride for an evening movie, and everything seemed to be OK. A couple of hours later, I went back into the office. Flipped on the light, and the same thing happened with two notable exceptions: First there was no "FFZZZT!" Second, the power didn't cycle; it just died. Half the house, completely dark. It's the middle of the night, and tomorrow's a work day. I start contacting electricians right now. I'm not waiting for first light; I want my email, text, phone call to be the first thing they see when they start up in the AM. Not sure where in the list Kosta was, but he definitely was in the top 10. In the morning, the first responses I get are "Not in your area," "I'm on vacation," and "I can get to you six weeks from now." What part of "emergency" is hard? Kosta got it. He called & texted, and we connected quickly. He had a full day planned, but he understood "emergency" and made a special stop at my place. Before he started, he made sure I understood the meaning of "troubleshooting" and that he wasn't making any promises. I get it: I could be in deep doo-doo here. I followed Kosta around and watched how he methodically checked out one thing after another. He started at the PG&E panel at my house's point-of-entry; he moved to the breaker panel in the garage; he went into the office where I'd heard the "FFZZZT!" He checked plugs, switches, extension cords, etc. Nothing. Power was everywhere it was supposed to be except in the places it wasn't. No clear indication of what may have gone wrong. Kosta's about ready to leave -- he had another appointment, after all -- when he decided to check an outlet in the room that shares a common wall with the office. Juice was on in that room, but Kosta figured he could poke around. I figure his spider-sense got tingling. Sure enough! There is was. He checked a plug & no joy. He pulled the cover off & found the short. That was the "FFZZZT!" I'd heard. Weird that the breaker didn't switch off, but that wouldn't've helped ID the problem anyway. Within five minutes, the outlet was replaced, the power restored, and Kosta was on his way. As he was leaving, one of my neighbors asked if he could take a look at a plug she was having difficulties with, and he went right into her home -- no appointment necessary -- and fixed it for her. No charge! What an excellent experience. I made sure to get Kosta's sticker on my breaker panel door before he left. What a CHAMP! read more

After explaining that he wasn't a lighting expert, the Tesla guy was in a big hurry to leave upon arrival. He not only did not fix the problem of my flickering pendant lights, but he didn't diagnose the problem correctly either - basically blaming the bulbs, which he said may not be dimmable (they were). While he checked the transformer and wiring in the fixture, he never bothered to look at the light switch box for any problem there. Then he charged me $160 for the visit charge, which I would not have agreed to if I had known how little he knew about lighting. I will never use this company again. read more

Kosta was fantastic. We've asked several electricians over the last ten years or so to help figure out why we have flickering in our house. We've spent over $20K on various electrical work (not just the flickering, but it's always on oiur list). I asked Kosta to just come and address this problem and then provide me with an estimate. Kosta and his father (both electricians) came to our house on the scheduled day (about a week later). They spent about 1 1/2 hours testing everything - I mean everything. Afterwards, they told me that they were 85% sure that the problem was the PG&E hookup from the street and that rather than trying to fix/replace other electrical system components that would cost us thousands of dollars and might not solve the issue, we should first contact PG&E because it's free. They only charged us $250 for their time. PG&E came and tested and said, yep, it's the PG&E hookup. We are now flicker-free for the first time in 12 years of owning our house and entirely because of Kosta. I'll definitely use him for all electrical work in the future. BTW, this was the second visit from Kosta. The first visit a few months before this one I asked him to help me solve a problem with my 240V outdoor socket because I got a Tesla. He came and tested it on his way to a job early one morning and fixed the issue within about 10 minutes and wouldn't charge us. As good of service as I've ever had. read more

So appreciative of being able to find someone who could come out on a Saturday within an hour to make the home safe again. We had a power surge that caused a plug to fry leaving a charred mess of electric in the electrical outlet. This knocked out power in two walls of one bedroom and the entire second bedroom. Once we realized this was beyond our ability to replace on our own we had to find someone on a Saturday. These guys were great, arrived in an hour and were VERY thorough. They replaced and repaired the old outlet, checked the main circuit box and replaced the main circuit for that part of the house, and did it all quickly and with a great attitude. We were very happy with the final cost, especially considering it was an emergency on a Saturday, the he was very cheerful and happy. We highly recommend these guys. read more

We have used them twice. The first time was fantastic and easy. The second time was this past week where we had purchased a NEST and my husband tried to install without success. We called them and they said they could wire it. Well, it was wired and did turn on, however, it was wired incorrectly and instead of AC, our house was being heated to 89 degrees for 4 days (looking forward to that bill). When we called them on Sunday they said they couldn't help and we should call NEST, which we did. NEST was fantastic and after about an hour on the phone with them, my husband and their technician were able to correct the issue (wired wrong). My husband called to give them a chance to rectify the issue and they said you signed the contract (ie approved) so we will not provide a refund. I understand they have a business to run, but I find it extremely disheartening that when we called because it wasn't working they a) did not offer to come and fix it and b) when someone else had to fix it, they would not offer any sort of refund. Sad to say we will not be using them again. I did give them 3 stars because they were so great the first time we used them. read more

Very timely response on the Friday before a holiday, when we suddenly lost one phase to house due to PG&E problem. Nikola Tesla (Kosta) upgraded our 40-yr old main panel properly but due to PG&E bad info/advice, they could not hook power back up until city permit was issued and PG&E had to come back Saturday to fix their problem. Kosta came back on Sunday to make the adjustments required by the city (included in our price quote), we got our power back the next morning. Costa was very fast and friendly. Super knowledgable and on time. I needed a few backyard lights removed and he recommended leaving the wiring in case I want LED lights in the future. He explained its low voltage and it won't be a safety issue. He showed me how to connect new lights and also said he can come back to attach them. Service call was $150 for one hour or less. What can I say, just a really great experience with Kosta. Needed to do some major electrical work in our house (replacing the vintage wiring for all of the outlets in our 100+ year old house), and a realtor friend recommended him. Kosta come over the next day to walk through the planned project, and he walked me through all of the possible approaches and answered all of my questions. He also quoted a very reasonable rate for the week's worth of work. He and his worker dove right in the next week. While the work was unavoidably disruptive, the two of them were considerate and kept us up to date on progress. The work was fast, and we were able to coordinate seamlessly with the drywall contractor when the work was done (he doesn't do drywall and painting). Quality of the work was really good. We just purchased a new dishwasher and the old outlet under the sink was old and crusty and ready to go. I called a few electricians here on Yelp and they were either too busy or didn't get back to me in time. George answered and told me someone could come over and do the job within a half hour. I was out and said I'd call back when I got home. Well, that went exactly as planned. I wish I could remember his name but, he was very nice. He tried a new switch, but when it didn't work, he helped me pull out the fridge so I could get it on an extension cord, and promised to come back on Saturday. He replaced our panel for a reasonable price (but $$$, you get what you pay for), grounded the panel, and took care of the permits with the county. I went through Nikola Tesla Electric a few month back in June and was very pleased with their speedy and thorough workmanship! I own a salon on Clayton and after having half of my shops power out and hearing noises from my fuse box I knew it was time to call an electrician to see what I needed to do. I was nervous because I had no idea what to expect and knew whatever the situation was that it was going to be a pretty penny!!! After calling them and leaving a message they called me back instantly and set up a time for them to check out the problem and give me an estimate. They came quickly and figured out the problem quickly. They broke down the situation to me and told me exactly what was wrong, what needs to be done and that they could do it and gave me a price. Knowing I was on a budget on fixing the situation they reassured me that it was a good price and if I wanted a second opinion I could get another estimate but I wouldn't get the same price. They were right. I didn't hesitate to call them back and move forward with them replacing my fuse box. We scheduled them to come ASAP to come in and they replaced the fuse box quickly and I haven't had a problem since. They were very kind and explained step by step what they did and they wouldn't let me clean or sweep up after them. They also let me know that if I have any problems with the fuse box again that they would come and fix it! Also they mentioned that since my fuse box was so burnt out that it might help with my AC situation so I'm hoping that it does!
