Carlos was prompt, professional, explained what the problem was and did the job fast! He arrived at 8:56 AM and was out of our place at 9:28 AM. Things to note: they offer free estimates, but if you need troubleshooting like we did, the current rate is $200 the first hour and $100 per additional hour needed. If it's a simple fix like ours, you pay the troubleshooting cost plus any materials used. They were able to replace our breaker for us the same day as the scheduled diagnostic which was a great peace of mind for us. For more involved repairs, they provide an estimate before you give the okay to move forward. Their prices are more than fair for our area. C. Bates Electric did a great job with the installation of my Tesla Universal Wall Connector! (I purchased a Tesla Universal Wall Connector from Amazon because I have two EVs (Tesla Y Long Range 2021 and a Hyundai Kona Electric SE 2023) and they have different charging connectors). C. Bates Electric gave a fair price for the labor and the permit. Installation of a level 2 charger is not cheap, but C. Bates Electric actually beat all of the bids of the other contractors who service Pinole/Hercules/Rodeo. Timing. Because of the permit process, it took about 2 weeks before C. Bates Electric could schedule the appointment, and then we decided to schedule the installation the week after. On Wednesday, January 28th, Juve did the install and Carlos (the owner) supervised him for about 30 minutes. Then Carlos departed to another appointment, and Juve finished the job in less than an hour. Both Carlos and Juve were friendly and happy to have a conversation. Juve installed a 60 amp circuit, directly to my main electrical panel. The Tesla Universal Wall Connector installation was on the inside wall of my garage, just on the other side of the main electrical panel, which is located on the outside wall of the garage. The charger accesses 80% of the circuit or 48 amps. My Tesla Y charges at 45 miles per hour, while the Hyundai gets about 25 miles per hour. The Hyundai Kona is known to have slower charging speeds. FYI... the electrical inspector from Contra Costa County came by today, on Tuesday, February 3rd, and approved the installation. Although the inspector came today, I was able to use the charger since the installation last week. I highly recommend C. I'm only partially satisfied with the work done at my home. Two weeks ago C.Bates completed an electrical inspection of my home. Because the first evaluation was not satisfactory, they offered to do a second. During the second visit we agreed to work that was going to be done. The electrician came out today to do what I thought we agreed to a week ago. Most of the work was done except the outlet to the garbage disposal. Technician told me basically he could not fit whatever the issue was with that outlet. Provided no option or follow-up. when I said to him, or you telling me I won't be able to use my disposal, he said no but it will take deeper evaluation to determine the issue. Again, left me with no options. I am very disappointed. They offered to come back out after my daughter complained. However, at this point I'm just going to call someone else. I've lost my trust with them. It should not take 4 visits to get it right. read more

C. Bates Electric is phenomenal. They helped me to install my level 2 EV charger via my dryer circuit saving me thousands of dollars. Carlos came by to do a site visit and was very friendly and down to earth. He will not upsell you on things you don't need and will tell you if something will not be to code or pass inspections. Initially, we were planning to upgrade the main panel with a dedicated EV circuit for much more but given my home sub-panel was already quite full, Carlos was honest and said he could not do it. But when I asked him if we could help me install a 14-30 outlet in the garage instead to split my dryer circuit with the SplitVolt - he was willing to figure out a way. The install is beautiful and now I can charge 7x as fast as before for a fraction of the upgrade costs that everyone else was asking for (esp compared to trenching the main electrical line to try to upgrade the main line to 200 amps - which I don't need!). They also have an option to handle the city permitting process which I gladly paid for. I will update the review once that comes through. They were also willing to help me buy and install an ivory colored standard outlet in my house (the original one was very old and lose) for a very reasonable price! Impressively, C. One of the worst case scenarios for a homeowner - power went out throughout the house, and it was limited to only my house, not affecting any other structure in the neighborhood. I replaced the 20 amp circuit breaker fuse on my panel which I thought I had identified as faulty. It didn't do the trick, and we remained without power in various parts of the kitchen and house. Time to call a professional. I tried contacting several electricians in the area. The responses I got had limited availability, seemed sketchy without a verified license, or had somewhat heavy-handed policies about charging for diagnostics/troubleshooting even if they couldn't fix the problem. Carlos was by far the most responsive, professional, and trustworthy. He was not immediately available (I think he was on vacation), but he still responded to me very promptly to arrange a time and give me a fair idea of what to expect. Fast forward a couple days later, Carlos timely showed up with his brother, both very pleasant, nice guys. Long story short, they correctly identified that my power was out due to the 220V leg likely being damaged which ran from the transformer ACROSS the street, underneath the road, and to my home. This can apparently happen to the 50+ year old underground connections when there is a lot of rain. PG&E sent like a 15-man crew out the next day to fix the problem. (And had to come out again a few weeks later). At any rate, Carlos really came through for me during a stressful time, and his brother even helped me fix some light switches that stopped working long ago.
