This place is well worth the 5 star ratings. I had gone to two other periodontists for a lot of discomfort with my lower gums (both sides). My regular dentist says that I have recession. Both periodontists recommended conservative methods/cleaning which weren't doing much for the moderate pain/discomfort Finally I took matters into my own hands, had my dentist write me a rec for Perio4u and couldn't be happier. Dr Zarkesh saw that while my recession wasn't too bad that I barely had any gingival tissue attached to the front of my teeth, letting food/plaque fall in the pockets and causing discomfort. She did a graft on me that day!!! She is very nice, bedside manner is great and professional. I've received a graft from another dentist that hurt like hell and left me in pain for weeks (even w pain meds). She committed a "FAILURE TO DIAGNOSE" when she refused to take an x-ray and said my tooth did not have an infection (WHICH SHE DID AND IT LANDED ME IN THE HOSPITAL) Dr Zarkesh, VIOLATED HIPAA requirements when she spoke to my previous dentist about more than just the work that was done and when she didn't hand over my file in the timeline HIPAA requires! Dr Zarkesh was able to extract my front tooth in one piece which made immediate implant an option so my overall treatment time was reduced in half thanks to the immediate implant. I went to Dr. Zarkesh for gum reduction and the whole process was amazing. Her staff were exceptionally kind and during the surgery they made sure I was comfortable and doing okay. During the recovery process, not once did I ever feel any sort of pain or discomfort. One night, I had a pressing question about the status of my teeth and she took her time to personally speak with me on the phone. During my follow ups she made sure I was satisfied and everything was symmetrical. One thing I appreciated was that she made sure that my roots were never exposed. I've been seeing Dr. Zarkesh for three years now for gum grafting. I had a lot of recession to both my upper and lower teeth due to over brushing (gotta keep them teeth clean) and biting down too hard. I've had four different surgeries done by Dr. Zarkesh and each one got easier and less painful. Her staff are also there to help you and are super friendly and responsive. Before I had my first procedure, she explained to me all the options I would have and we discussed the financial part as well. Knowing my insurance would only cover so much, we spread it out accordingly. She will also work with you to figure out financing the surgeries as this is not a cheap procedure. The first time I did decide to use my own tissue, and while it was painful (she had to remove it from my roof), she explained the procedure ahead of time and how to care for myself afterwards to reduce infection (which never happened). The other three procedures I did use a donor graft and took the antibiotics, and had no problems! I would recommend the latter as you're guaranteed the amount needed is what you receive, it's less painful and you can eat much quicker! Amazingly, when you get the numbing shots and the surgeries, it doesn't hurt! Dr. Zarkesh has this technique that makes it painless. She is very sure of hand and very precise. During the procedure she checks in with you to make sure you're alright and if needed, will give you additional numbing shots just to be sure. She knows exactly what she's doing and I would recommend her to anyone who needs periodontal care. read more

My dentist referred me to Dr Zarkesh for a procedure called a "crown lengthening". I've never had oral surgery before and not being particularly fond of going to the dentist, I wasn't looking forward to the experience. On my first visit, Krista (front office/reception) and everyone else in the office treated me as if I had been a patient of theirs for years. Highly professional, friendly and very concerned for my well being. Dr Zarkesh explained the procedure, and performed it quickly and efficiently. She gave me a prescription for painkillers, but all I needed were a couple of Tylenol that night and I was eating regular food the very next day. They followed up by phone to see how I was doing and when I went back to have the stitches removed, it didn't hurt at all. Very highly recommended. read more

My friend doesn't have a yelp account, but was a recent patient of Dr. Zarkesh: "I highly recommend Dr. Zarkesh. I saw her for gum graphs. I have a real phobia when it comes to dentists. I went in for a consultation; we discussed what needed to happen, and various approaches to pain/anxiety control. (Anesthesia - expensive, gas - inconvenient, Valium - maybe...) Later, looking at her schedule we found that she had an opening immediately after my consultation. I decided to go for it, without the benefit of the aforementioned medicines, phobia be damned! Dr. Zarkesh was incredibly gentle! The procedure didn't hurt at all, and indeed, she was even conscientious with the injections of local anesthetic. She has a kind bedside manner and I liked her assistants as well. (Of course there was some soreness after the fact..but what do you expect when someone has been cutting into your face? It wasn't a big deal.) About a month later I went back for another graph - completely without fear - which is quite a testament to Dr. Zarkesh's skill. Dr. Zarkesh's secretary is also fabulous and contributed to my feeling comfortable, and was great about checking in with me after the procedure. I really can't recommend her highly enough - and if you're feeling like I was a few short months ago - pretty freaked out about the prospect of this surgery in particular and dental stuff in general - I hope you select Dr. Zarkesh!" I call at 12:00 to confirm my appointment of 12:30 and see if they are on schedule. The receptionist confirms. I sit and wait till 12:45, then I leave the office. At 12:48, I get a call from Dr Zarkesh herself "I am ready for you now, dear" and then "we did not know you were in such a rush". This is completely next to the point...when patients are late, they pay, when doctors are late, we should just smile? I would not have walked out if this was the first time, but my husband drove to her office to hear that they could not check what was scheduled because "they did not have the tools". And I was kept waiting previously too. I don't say she's a bad periodontist, she's probably good, she did a deep cleaning and was going to check the results today. Saw Dr Zarkesh yesterday and she provided me with her exceptional care again. I went to her about 5 years ago for a tooth extraction, bone graft and implant. It was my first major tooth procedure and I was so scared. Her and her team was outstanding. So honest, gentle, professional and her work is flawless! I walked away completely satisfied and I felt like a new person. Recently I went to see a new dentist where I moved to up north in Roseville. They recommend another tooth extraction, bone graft and implant. Not only that they quoted me over double the price that I paid with Dr Zarkesh. I felt unsure about the care I was receiving and decided I wanted to go back to San Jose to see Dr Zarkesh. She did a thorough exam and X-ray to the area of concern. She explained everything to me and showed me that my tooth did not need to be removed. So much weight has been lifted from my shoulders. It was the best news I could have ever got! Dr Zarkesh is literally the best!! She is so honest and really thorough. The travel to SJ from Roseville was totally worth it!!! I love Dr Zarkesh and her office. I had a gum graft performed here a few years ago. Leading up to the procedure I was told I needed it on many teeth, but they could only do a few at a time. When I went in for the procedure I said I wanted them to just do the worst teeth and showed them which ones I thought that would be, and we agreed. Well, about a week after the surgery when the swelling finally went down I felt a pit in my stomach when I saw that they did the WRONG TOOTH! I payed around $2000 out of pocket for this one tooth where the gums had BARELY just started to recede. Similarly receded areas of my mouth have since healed from just switching to a softer toothbrush. When I told Dr. Zarkesh that she had done the wrong tooth, she said: "well, you needed all of them done anyway". I understand this from her perspective, but from my perspective as a 24 year old paying thousands of dollars out of pocket to go through a very uncomfortable experience, I really wasn't planning on getting all the other teeth fixed and still don't plan on it unless they get much worse. Because she didn't fix the tooth that was much worse, I'm now more likely to have to go though another procedure to fix the one that really needed it. It really upsets me that this happened during a procedure where I was fully alert and they could have talked to me if anything was unclear. It still bothers me to this day, which is why I am finally posting this. read more

I just finished my second of four gum graphing surgeries with Dr. Zarkesh that I will need. I wanted to write this review for anyone else that was in the same situation that I found myself. I have known for over 7 years that I would need gum graphing surgery but kept putting it off as a result of cost and fear of the procedure. I wanted to share that I am so happy to have found Dr. Zarkesh to handle my surgeries. I'll be honest, the procedure is not a fun one but if you have to have it done as I did, you want Dr. Zarkesh and her excellent skills. Both times now she has made me feel so comfortable and talked to me the entire way through the procedure. She lets you know what she is doing and why and how the procedure is progressing. This last time I even had to bring my 8 year old daughter along since it is summer and they were so kind to let her hang out in the lobby. During the procedure Dr. Zarkesh even asked her assistant to check on my daughter for me. This is a very caring office staff with a lead doctor who does excellent work. Dr. Zarkesh is wonderful and so is her staff. I was so nervous when I first went not knowing what to expect. After the deadening shots, I can honestly say I didn't feel a thing. Dr. Zarkesh checked with me throughout the procedure and I found that very comforting. When I left, my entire face was not numb, just the tooth that she worked on. I took one pain pill as directed but never needed a second one. No Pain!! Since then she has completed 2 more implants. It has been an investment but so much better then the 2 bridges I had. I had a teeth with unusual roots when I say unusual I men it, very long roots and they has a bump on the end. You may don't believe but one of the roots was in my sinus. That teeth was bothering me since I was a child and many doctor refused to remove it for me. Finally Dr. Zarkesh extracted that for me. I could see how difficult was that but she made it so smooth and easy for me. No more pain no more sinus problem and I'm extremely happy with her service. I was refered to Dr Zarkesh for a recurring problem with one of my molars. During the gum surgery, Dr Zarkesh identified the issue, discussed the details with me, and proceeded to remove the bad tooth and also insert some bone. Later a pin was inserted to support a new crown. Despite the serious procedures being done, I did not experience any great pain, far less than I expected. Dr Zarkesh was very careful and very thorough. I believe her skill and gentleness made sure that the effects of the procedures were minimized and I never had any problems at all. Everything healed up nicely and now I've got a great tooth with no problems. All the ladies in the office take great care of you, and follow up to make sure you're OK.
