I'd give 5 stars to Dr Fross. There is no better dentist than Dr Scott Fross. I was terrified of getting my tooth pulled. He's kind, explains everything, goes at a good pace so you can't overthink it and has a great sense of humor. I'd go to him again for sure and I recommend him for everyone. The office experience I would give a 1 or 2 stars. Here are some tips: 1) When you schedule your appointment, ask for the estimated bill then, not when you show up for your appointment so that you know exactly what you need to pay beforehand. I was shocked and surprised by the steep out-of-pocket cost, but since you're there for your appointment you can't challenge or back out. If cost is an issue for you, I would recommend that you check with other dentists too because some of the codes that are used is not covered by insurance. 2) I would ask to see the codes that are being used for billing when you get your estimate. I saw afterwards that one was wrong. When it was corrected it meant that I had a $229 refund. Mistakes happen, challenge if you believe there was a mistake. 3) I had to chase for my refund multiple times. Not a great office experience tbh. read more

I don't have any complain about Dr. Fross. I am not happy with the staff how they manages patient. They are clear about billing, and it looks like they are more interested to create unnecessary bill. I'm a huge skeptic when it comes to finding new doctors, and was particularly anxious about finding a doctor to get my wisdom teeth removed. However, I am so, unbelievably surprised with how wonderfully the surgery went and how smoothly the recovery is going thus-far. The pro's: 1. The woman at the front desk in the waiting room was pleasant and kind, which made me feel much more at ease going into the procedure. 2. I didn't have to wait at all in the waiting room before my consultation and procedure with Dr. Fross, which was surprising, given the long waits that are typical of a doctor's office. 3. Dr. Fross is truly an incredible physician. He explained the procedure and recovery instructions thoroughly, and was patient with all of my questions. I'm usually extremely anxious at any doctor's appointment, but Dr. Fross made me feel so comfortable that I hardly felt anxious at all. He even called in the evening to check-in, answer some more questions I had, and make sure I was doing okay post-op. 4. It is less than 10 hours post-op, and I have no swelling whatsoever. This, to me, is amazing because I had heard so many horror stories from friends who had extreme swelling for a week or two after their extraction surgeries, but that has not been my experience. My lack of swelling speaks volumes about what a talented surgeon Dr. Fross is. The con's: 1. I was a little surprised when I found out just how costly the procedure was going to be, and unfortunately, my insurance didn't cover much of it. However, the cost doesn't matter so much to me because I'm happy to pay more money for a good doctor. If cost is a more important factor for you, I would recommend finding out the cost well in advanced, and figuring out how much your insurance company will cover before booking an appointment. We just got the complete run-around from Dr. Fross and his staff. My son was scheduled to have 4 wisdom teeth removed. We had met with the doctor a month ago and that is what he recommended, so we set a date. We picked up the prescriptions they put in the system and started the antibiotics a day before as advised. Today we arrived 10 minutes before his appointment and the front office said they didn't have us scheduled. When I showed her our paperwork, she said someone canceled it on July 5. My family was on a backpacking trip on that date with no cell reception, it was a complete lie. Then she said they could fit us in for the removal of the bottom two teeth, not the four we had discussed. When we finally got to talk with the doctor, he showed us the x-ray and said he would only recommend removing the bottom two today and we would need to schedule the upper two for about a year from now because they weren't ready. He acted as if this had already been discussed. It had not. After a lot of pressing, I asked why we weren't told this at our first appointment a month ago and the doctor skirted around it for a bit and finally said, "Yeah, that probably falls on me". We never would have scheduled my son's wisdom teeth removal in two appointments, as there is nothing imminent about their need for removal. We walked because I have no trust at all in anything they say at this point. We will find another DDS. The whole thing was shady. read more

Watch your pocketbook! We called in advance and the billing assistant assured that our insurance would cover the cost of wisdom teeth extractions. That seemed great, until we received the invoice. Their response seemed to be "whoopsies, sorry, we did not realize you thought the cost would be covered". Rent on Middlefield road must be high; we learned later that we could fly to Utah for the same work, fully covered, including airfare, meals, rental and hotel included, for half of Dr. Fross's bill. read more

I have no complaints regarding Dr. Fross's expertise in his field, it is the transparency in billing that I am unhappy with. His clerical that handles the billing, told me "insurance was all taken care of" when I asked prior to our appointment what would be my out of pocket. It was only upon arrival of my daughter's extractions, minutes before her surgery, that I was told I had to pay over $3000 and I had to pay over a $1000 that moment if my daughter was to have surgery in minutes. She had flown home from school and this was carefully planned out, which the clerk knew. After several emails and months, they gave me a small discount of less then $200. Dr Fross would not see my point of view and I was very disappointed. I felt so taken-especially when I checked out of area prices for surgery, and they were considerably less. read more

I should preface this by saying I actually really liked Dr. Fross. Everyone in the office was nice, and getting my wisdom teeth out went off without a hitch. At first, I actually thought I had a 4 or 5 start experience. Then I got the bill. I was 22 at the time and on my own and my parents insurance. When they ran them, the receptionist told me that the procedure was fully covered. This was why I decided to get all 4 teeth out instead of just the one I needed too. I was guaranteed it would be free for me. Not so. When the bill came in, I had been charged more than $700 out of pocket. When I mentioned this to them, they acknowledged that they had told me it would be free, and said they must have looked something up wrong. They did not change the price though, and I never got refunded the money. This is VERY SHADY business practice. I wish it hadn't been the case because everything else wen't very well, but alas it did occur and it really ruined the experience for me. I am very afraid of dentists. My dentist said he could not pull one of my back teeth and sent me to Scott Fross. I have no insurance so I had to pay in advance. Everyone there was nice. I went in one door and out the other in an unbelievable (approx) 20 minutes !! Dr. Fross is very handsome and nice. He is humorous and inspires confidence ! The needle did not hurt, I did not even use laughing gas. I felt one brief sharp pain and then no more. Afterwards, at home, I did not even have to take an aspirin. It healed up painlessly. After my last unfortunate visit with a dentist (see review of the dubious office of Dr. Keiles), I've been ambivalent about going to see any dental-related professional. However, my feelings changed when, while eating a slice of pizza, half my tooth fell out. Yes, gross. Yes, TMI. Sorry. So this happened right before winter break at grad school (not in the Bay), and I scheduled an emergency appointment with the dental school. The young lady there said, "OMGOMGOMG you need to get your tooth pulled now!!!" So, based on the Yelp reviews, I made an appointment with Dr. Fross. Dr. Fross is fantastic. He put my mind at ease, explained all my options in great detail, and suggested that it might make more sense for me to wait until I'm back at school to get the tooth taken care of. I'm usually very skeptical about going to the dentist. This was my first extraction and I was very nervous. However, the staff and Dr. Fross made the whole experience so much better. They really make sure you're comfortable and distract you from the process, which I definitely needed! The whole process was so quick and painless. Dr. Fross walked me through the care steps post extraction and was very detailed about it. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for orthodontic procedures. I also want to give them a shoutout for being so accommodative. I had to change my appointment three times and they were so nice and accommodative about it which was amazing. I absolutely adore Dr. Fross and his staff. Gosh, I wish they practiced general dentistry I enjoyed my visit so much -- which is saying a lot because who in their right mind enjoys getting their wisdom teeth pulled. Anyhow, I was referred to Dr. Fross several years ago by Dr. Emam DDS (who also has a spectacular practice) for a tooth extraction. Needless to say, I remembered Dr. Fross' pleasant demeanor and returned recently for the removal of my wisdom teeth. Dr. Fross is an awesome surgeon. During my surgery he explained the process thoroughly, entertained me with his anecdotes and even played some good music. I felt zero pain! I must also give credit to his assistant who was warm and meticulous and added to the overall experience. I thoroughly recommend this practice for many reasons, another being that they have state of the art panaramic x-ray equipment - so you only have to take ONE x-ray instead of all those uncomfortable ones. A couple years ago I had to have a tooth pulled (no connection to Dr. Fross), and I finally got around to arranging for a dental implant to install a new tooth on. I read all the Yelp reviews, and decided to go to Dr. Fross. No regrets whatsoever; he is great. He took x-rays and arranged for me to come back in a month or so to get the implant put in. He prescribed antibiotics and super-duper mouth wash to prepare my mouth for surgery, by using the mouth wash for a couple weeks and starting the antibiotics just before the surgery. The exact sequence in which I had to take the medicine was not immediately clear to me, and he spent all the time it took to make it clear and be sure I understood and was comfortable with what I needed to do. The day of the surgery I showed up right on time, and he brought me into the dental surgery room within minutes. The only pain was very minor, just the numbing shot in the jaw that you always get from a dentist. Dr. Fross used a small needle and did the shot quickly and with skill, less pain than most dentists. The surgery was so fast, I was amazed (perhaps 10 minutes). I literally had no pain, at all, during or after the surgery. I would recommend (and have recommended) Dr. Scott Fross to anyone who needs oral surgery. He is friendly, professional, and very skilled. read more

What can I NOT say about Dr Fross. He was so incredibly accommodating to me and my family as a last minute emergency (patient) but his staff was simply so kind and incredible to both me and my grandmother, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Dr. Fross adjusted his busy work schedule to consult and complete my Grandmothers emergency treatment (extraction of 4 teeth on the lower arch), but he was able to ease her worries and anxiety with his fantastic chair/bedside manner. Let me start by saying: I HATE going to the dentist. I had to get 2 wisdom teeth pulled and was absolutely dreading the experience. I went in to Dr. Fross's office at around 2:15pm. I had to fill out some paperwork, get dental x-rays, and have a quick consult with the doctor. He was very funny and charismatic during his consult and definitely put me at ease. Him and his nurse sat me down in the surgery chair, have me nitrous oxide, injected some local anesthetic (2 upper wisdom teeth), and after that it took Dr. Fross about 5 minutes to painlessly extract both teeth. I was completely done and out of there at 2:45pm. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely recommend Dr. Fross for any of your dental surgery needs! read more

Dr. Fross was very nice to me and I think he did a good job extracting my wisdom teeth. What happened after my surgery however, was unacceptable. The day of my surgery, I was told that I would be responsible for a copay of $ 200, which I paid for with my credit card. Two week after the surgery however, Scott Fross charged an additional $522.80 on my credit card without my consent. There was no phone call, no e-mail, no bill. The explanation given to me was that my insurance did not pay for it. What they should have done was notified me and send me a bill, at which time I can decide how to pay for the balance. Instead, they decided to make an unauthorized charge on my credit card. Make no mistake, a business that charges their customers without consent or even notification is a fraudulent business. There is no other way of putting it. Stay away from this fraud. read more

Avoid this office!!!! They are not that good at what they do and they are highly dishonest. Dr. Fross is not a bad guy personally, but his business is run both poorly and like a total scam. This was my experience: 1. On the morning of my appointment, the receptionist demanded $400. I told her I had called my insurance company the day before and they told me TO MAKE SURE THE OFFICE DID NOT MAKE ME PAY UP FRONT. The office should abide by policy, the rep told me, and they should bill the insurance for 90% of the amount after the surgery. The receptionist rudely told me "I don't bill." She expected the $400. When I showed hesitation, she said, fine, you said you only pay 10%? Then you have to pay $220. Amazing how the price comes down in just 2 minutes. Even then, I told her the insurance company told me I should not pay money before the service, but not wanting to argue with the rude receptionist and not being able to reschedule a major surgery, I paid her the money. I saw Dr. Fross in the background pretending not to hear the rudeness of his employee. 2. My surgery did not go that well. I was in intense pain for nearly 2 weeks. On top of that, the office was not clear on what the pre-op instructions were. Sure, Fross had written me a few prescriptions, but I thought they were for pain meds. I did not fill them because I decided that I would only take the pain meds afterwards if I needed them. The day before the surgery, the office called me and said "don't forget your meds." I had NO IDEA he had prescribed an anti-inflammatory -- apparently not taking that prolonged my pain. 3. Back to the money scam -- when I got the statement from my dental insurance, I found that $220 was almost $100 more than what I should I have paid. I called Fross' office. They decided to refund the overcharged amount...if they had not, I would have complained to the BBB as well as the ADA. Instead, I decided to write this review on Yelp. I will also tell my dentist who referred me that I did not like Dr. Fross and I would suggest he not refer people there. read more

The single-star is not for the wisdom tooth extraction, which was performed without complications, but for the office's lack of integrity regarding billing. Given that another local dentist was recently indicted for defrauding patients, you might think that dental practitioners would be a little more careful about trying to extract extra funds from the insurance company and the patient. Apparently Fross did not get that memo. Extraction should be a straightforward procedure for any oral surgeon. If you need your teeth pulled, why not patronize someone who doesn't inflate the bill or miscode charges? read more

After receiving a referral from my dentist, I went to the office for a consult and upon first glance, the secretary was very rude and disrespectful. She had a nasty attitude where she believed that I was inferior because of my skin color. She refused me service because she believed I hadn't the funds to pay. She refused my insurance claiming it was insufficient and inferior, therefore insisting on full payment for services. The secretary also talked down to me and treated me like I didn't belong in the office. Do not let the fancy office or the Menlo Park location fool you. Some people are more adept at hiding their racist attitudes than others! Bigots come in all shapes, sizes, and colors and live everywhere, including Menlo Park. read more

I've gone to Dr. Fross twice! He was recommended to me by my dentist, Dr. Gary Eggers, who is in the same building as Dr. Fross. I've also heard good things about Dr. Fross from my co-worker. I had very different experiences between the first (not so great) and second (really good) time I went. The first time I went to Dr. Fross, I needed two bicuspids pulled since I was getting braces and I didn't have enough room in my mouth for all my teeth (yes, the sadness of having a small jaw). I had localized anesthesia, and the teeth were pulled out in about five minutes. I had gauze placed in my mouth, and then disoriented, I was escorted out a side door and suddenly I was in the parking lot. I had no idea what just happened. I drove home not really sure what I was supposed to do for the recovery. I don't remember being told not to rinse, so when I got home, the first thing I did was rinse my mouth of all that yucky blood. BAD IDEA. The rinsing delayed my recovery because I couldn't clot properly. The instruction paper I was given didn't specify not to rinse either. It was not very informative. One week after I had my teeth pulled, I woke up in a large puddle of blood all over my bed because in my sleep part of my clot had dislodged and I had started bleeding. Gross huh? The second time I went to Dr. Fross, I needed to have all four of wisdom teeth pulled. I was originally not going to go back to him because of my first time's experience, but I couldn't get an appt at a different oral surgeon that came highly recommended, and my wisdom teeth were hurting, so I decided to just go for it. He had my records, he knew that I needed those teeth pulled, and he was right next to my dentist. My second experience was very very good (such a contrast to the first time!). I had general anesthesia and one of the nurses was massaging my head so that when I went under I would be calm and not stressed out. I didn't feel much pain from the needles and I passed out very quickly. When I woke up, I was delirious and shaking, but this was due to my body's inability to deal with the anesthesia well, and not because anything had gone wrong. The nurses were attentive and brought my boyfriend right away because apparently I had been demanding him as soon as I woke up. The nurses told him how to take care of me, and as soon as I was able, I was escorted out that mysterious side door again. I was given much better care instructions on paper this time too. As I recovered, Dr. Fross called and made sure that I was okay. He laughed and told my boyfriend that he had actually given me the pediatric dose of anesthesia since I'm 'tiny'. I was glad that he paid attention to that detail, because I can't imagine what I would have done if I had been given an adult sized version (flip out some more?). My recovery went very quickly. I had swelling for only about a day and a half to two days, and I was eating solid food by the third or fourth day comfortably. I also felt almost no pain except for the first day, so I didn't need Vicodin or even Advil/Tylenol. In addition, my two lower holes from the missing wisdom teeth were healed and closed over within a week. I didn't have to use the irrigating syringe! My top two holes are healing nicely too. They're not entirely closed (I had my teeth pulled about three weeks ago?), but they are definitely not open, and I didn't lose any clots, and I didn't have any bleeding after the first day. Based on my relatively easy and painless wisdom teeth pulling, I highly suggest Dr. Fross! read more

In this area, dentists refer periodontal specialists and oral surgeons without real cause - and that is what I ran into. I was referred to Fross for a spot on my tongue. He took a look and in all fairness said, "Your dentist shouldn't have referred you - it's nothing," and I left. Those 60 seconds cost $144 and another $86 for the late charge and collections threat. Dr. Fross is professional, easy-going, and did a great job of giving me details of what to expect. He probably spent more time explaining the procedure than actually performing it. Consult, extraction and I was out the door in about a half hour. Can't say I even felt anything! FIVE STAR EXPERIENCE... had an amazing experience with Dr Fross and he had an amazing staff as well. He's extremely nice, helpful and accommodating. I had to get my wisdom teeth removed because they were really bothering me. so my dad was referred to Dr Fross by a friend. I called right away and was able to get a consultation appointment within the week. I got to the appointment and met with him, took x rays and immediately told me the process and what was going to happen. he was very knowledgable and knew exactly what he was talking about. I had to get all 4 taken out and scheduled myself for surgery that same week!! Before I left the consultation he gave me 3 prescriptions, one for inflammation, one for infection and one for pain. The day of the surgery I went to the office, and when I walked in, it was a good vibe. I was nervous but I got through it. he have me laughing gas, then and iv with the anesthesia. and I was knocked out. like KNOCKED OUT. so painless. it literally felt like 5 minutes. when he was done I was pretty much free to go. and thanks to all the mess he prescribed me I have no chubby cheeks and very very veryyyyyyy minimal pain. thank you Dr Fross!!! read more

I was extremely nervous to have my wisdom teeth removed. As someone who at almost 24 had never had so much as a cavity or stitch in my whole life, I was most nervous for the anesthesia. Finally two of my teeth erupted and I decided that I had put this off long enough. My best friend recommended Dr. Fross and even though I looked others up on yelp, I'm very glad that I went with him. The procedure went extremely smoothly and I was given laughing gas so I wouldn't be nervous for the IV. I briefly quasi woke up during it but didn't open my eyes and was only vaguely aware of him saying "good job" to one of the assistants before nodding back to dreamland. Not unpleasant at all and that was something I was very concerned about. They were very attentive after the surgery and I experienced zero nausea (yet another of the things I was scared of). A day later and I still haven't experienced ANY swelling and while it is a little uncomfortable to have gauze in your mouth and be aware of not using one side of your mouth, I haven't experienced anything close to what I would call pain. I feel like I could start eating regular food in the next few days but will remain cautious as dry socket is something I reallly do not want. For anyone wondering, they also sent me home with all of the gauze I could need as well as a nifty ice pack that stays velcro-ed to your head so you don't have to hold it there. I still have to have my other side out but this time around I know I'll be a lot less nervous. read more

OK, I agree that the high co-pay does sting a bit, but I knew about it before I came in (and he refunded about half of it when the insurance came through) so I have no complaints there. The procedure itself was remarkably quick and nearly painless. From the time they slapped the gas mask over my nose to the time I was in the recovery room texting my girlfriend to come and pick me up was about 35 minutes. They sent me on my way with a week's worth of painkillers but I only needed them the first day. I also had a very bad experience with billing at this office. I was led to believe the charge was less and that I would get refunded over a $1000 by my insurance-I didn't. I was told to pay the money upfront-sounds very similar. I hope that Dr. Fross has changed office staff as this happened some time ago and was very distressing. read more
