    Custom copper planter
    Crystal N.

During a backyard renovation, I came across the need for a custom size copper planter. I contacted Nine Iron, and was answered by Neil. I CANNOT express how amazing working with Neil has been. Neil made my vision for my pot come to life, it was exactly what I was looking for. During the process of creating my planter, I had other issues arise that needed a welder, and Neil ALWAYS went out of his way to help,. Even when the issues had nothing to do with him, he always made sure he helped me fix them. In the end, not only did Neil custom make my planter, he refinished it when it was damaged by another company, he created a custom spark arrester for an outdoor fireplace, created new custom handles for all our BBQ components, and did some work on our existing gates so we would pass inspection. There are very few people or companies out there with the work ethic and customer satisfaction of nine iron. If I could give 100 stars I would!

The legs on this piece have been broken for months because I couldn't find the right shop for the repair. I found Nine Iron Design on Yelp and gave them a call. Neil offered to take a look so I took the legs to his shop and he took on the task of welding the legs for me. He did a great job. After I put the legs on and refinished it with metallic paint and new glass knobs, it's like a brand new piece! I'm so happy with the result. Neil will be my go-to guy now! Thanks Neil, you're great! - Carla

If I could give this guy more stars I would. Neil has worked on my Hot Rods and Classic Cars and is SPOT ON and has "master welder" skills. He doesn't cut corners and he can weld from A-Z. But all kidding aside.. he's able to weld aluminum, steel, or whatever precious metal you throw at him. If you ever need custom work done this is the man for the job. From skyscrapers to seat brackets he's saving the world one weld at a time!

Slips in, no tools, sturdy as can be.

While I imagine this is not the ideal job for most welders, Neil took on the task without hesitation.

I had a very disappointing experience with Hand Crafted Metalworks…read more From the beginning, I was extremely clear about what I wanted. I provided a reference photo on the very first day and made it known that I am very detail-oriented, especially because this was a major custom staircase railing project costing around $20,000. I wanted the finished product to closely match the design, proportions, style, and overall look of the reference photo. Unfortunately, the process became frustrating and confusing. Instead of feeling like my vision was being understood and executed, I repeatedly felt like the design was being scaled back, reinterpreted, or changed from what I had originally requested. Multiple revisions were needed because key details were not reflected properly, including how the railings were supposed to continue down the lower steps and terminate at the bottom. One major issue was that the shop drawings showed a rectangular/square wood cap, even though the reference photo I provided showed a round wood handrail. That was a major design difference, not a small detail. For a custom project of this size, I expected the drawings to accurately reflect the design direction I had communicated from the start. Another major frustration was the coordination process. I hired Hand Crafted Metalworks expecting them to manage the project. Instead, I felt like I was being put in the middle between their metal team and their wood subcontractor. I was connected directly with the wood subcontractor, who appeared to be unaware of important details, including that the wood was already part of the original quote. At one point, it felt like I was being asked to coordinate or clarify things that should have been handled internally by the contractor. There was also confusion around the timeline. A timeline that had been discussed as approximately six weeks later appeared to become September, which was a significant difference. When I asked for clarification, the conversation became defensive instead of simply explaining the scheduling change. Overall, my frustration is not just about one isolated issue. It is about the entire process: repeated miscommunication, inaccurate design assumptions, unclear subcontractor coordination, changing expectations, and a feeling that I had to keep fighting to preserve the original design vision I clearly communicated from day one. For a high-end custom project, I expected a much smoother and more professional process. Instead, I felt like I had to constantly correct, clarify, and manage details that should have been understood and handled by the company. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. I'd post only after the credit card dispute is filed, not before, and keep screenshots/emails organized in case they respond publicly.

Our primary point of contact, Chris, was responsible for coordinating the project, yet we frequently had to make multiple calls just to get updates or receive a response. On one occasion, workers arrived at our home, informed us they needed to leave to purchase materials, and then never returned that day. The problems extended far beyond scheduling. The initial measurements taken for our custom railings were inaccurate, resulting in the wrong product being fabricated. When installation day finally arrived, the wrong order was delivered. We were assured the mistakes would be corrected, only for another incorrect order to arrive later. The same crew was repeatedly sent back to address the issues, yet the problems remained unresolved. The quality of the installation itself was also concerning. The railings were improperly installed, caused damage to our walls and floors, and portions of the installation began pulling away from the wall within a month. Given that stair railings are a safety feature, this was particularly alarming and further diminished our confidence in the company's workmanship. What should have been a straightforward project turned into months of delays, repeated errors, broken promises, and constant follow-up on our part. We were repeatedly given timelines and assurances that were never honored, and obtaining updates often required persistent phone calls. The most disappointing part was not the mistakes themselves, but the lack of accountability and follow-through. Every issue seemed to require multiple calls and reminders, yet meaningful resolution never came. After months of frustration, we ultimately canceled the contract because we no longer trusted that the project would be completed correctly or safely. Mistakes can happen in any business, but professionalism is measured by how those mistakes are handled. Unfortunately, between the inaccurate measurements, incorrect fabrication, poor installation, wall damage, communication issues, missed appointments, and failure to stand behind the work, our experience was extremely disappointing. I cannot recommend this company.
