But the woman leading the recruitment sham kept acting and talking as if there were other participants, going as far as saying, "Oh there are so many questions! One moment, I'll get to you." She was giving examples of people their clients might want to hire. The first example was a middle aged great haired man. Clearly not me. Omg but the second example.. was like a mirror image of me. They knew taking money upfront and saying they are a talent agency was against the law. They violated the Krekorian Act that went into effect in 2010. I saw an ad on Facebook for a Spike Lee movie audition and registered for a callback. I was invited to a Zoom call, but when I joined, a lady from Detroit dominated the conversation, talking about her successful career for 30 minutes without providing any relevant information. She then mentioned that a link to register for their website would be sent, which requested credit card information without disclosing pricing details or subscription terms. When I asked via Zoom chat if I could sign up later, I was told the link would expire soon. It became clear that they were only interested in getting us to sign up for their website subscription. The whole experience felt like a scam, and when I declined to sign up, she asked me to leave the call. What struck me as odd was that no one else was asking questions, and I couldn't see any other participants. Got baited on here when i clicked on a facebook ad about Blacklist looking for background cast which forced you to put in your email before they'd give you further information. Then received text to set up virtual casting call (~15-30 minutes) They spent the entirety of the call talking about their company nine9 talent agency and how it normally costs 499 for the casting card and headshots but for today it would cost 99... then somehow a monthly fee gets pulled in there was never any audition- just a trick to get people to sign up (which when i saw the name on the forms i googled and found all the horrible reviews for) Complete waste of the 40 minutes and none of my questions in the q/a portion about the auditions were answered which was clearly done to avoid having to tell everyone there was no audition today. read more

I saw an ad on social media for a casting call. The casting call was relevant to Chicago-based shows. Chicago fire and Chicago PD to name two. It turned out to be just an advertisement. He logged into a zoom. Sounded exciting. 15 to 20 minutes later discovered it was purely a way to get people to sign up for their agency. Then they could possibly help you maybe get a casting call. The most misleading aspects of this company was the fact that they said there was a monthly fee for their support. However the first one was free. I filled out the form provided information. I was then charged $99. I don't feel that they presented their business accurately on the promotion of the casting call as well as the fact that they said that the first month is free and then charged me. I requested the cancellation of my membership. However they decline providing me with a refund of my $99. I am taking the time to write a review in hopes that others won't get the scan. An hour or so later I got a text from "Kim" about coming in for an evaluation (see a couple reviews down. Apparently "Kim" is very busy in NYC and Detroit). I had been contacted by this agency in the past and read their reviews so I was not at all happy to realize this was the same bait and switch as before. The Craigslist ad is extremely misleading. I have a comp card, website and many professional photos of my own. I would NEVER pay an agency a fee. A real agency signs you and takes a percentage. They invest in you. The initial interview is a short interview and a headshot-- they then invite everyone back for a second & final round and tell you to wear all black for a photo shoot in case you're chosen. From there, they charge you $500 to create a talent listing that they will apparently use to match you with opportunities. Good thing I didn't feed into this scheme after doing some research, including the 84 complaints on the Federal Business Bureau. Any real modeling agency takes a percentage (usually 10-20%) of what you make from the job. A agency's job is it to book your client for jobs so they get their commission as a agent. Upon the 2nd, they offer contracts and announce their services. They charge both a monthly fee (39.95) and an expensive one-time fee ($500) for head shots and preparing promotional material. Once I signed up, I was taken to a side room for head shots, which were incredibly rushed. I asked to speak to the manager about my concerns and, while waiting, looked into the company, discovering a litany of Nine9 internet horror stories and nearly a hundred complaints received by the better business bureau, all documenting the same deceitful behavior. Upon meeting with the office manager, I expressed my serious concerns and asked to immediately void the agreement I had made 2 minutes prior. After attempting to deflect and ignore my request, she finally promised to write an email to myself and Nine9's headquarters re: my agreement-termination immediately after our meeting ended; that email never arrived.
