Came in for a late lunch at around 1:30 on a chilly Wednesday. There was one other table of guests, it's pretty quiet but many employees were behind the counter. We were greeted immediately by a friendly hostess at the order counter, though she wasn't sure how things were prepared or what ingredients were used she did know who to ask and how to request special instructions in their POS system. I ordered a veggie bowl with white rice, no sauce or butter for $6.50. I wasn't aware it came with a chunk of fried tofu also! Which was a nice addition but it's not listed and I'm going to assume they have egg in the batter it's coated with, for someone with an egg allergy that could be a serious issue. They have soy sauce and sriracha sauce with small cups for seasoning your dishes along with packets of ketchup and other condiments. The portion was big enough for lunch and very affordable. Cashier was laying on the counter at one point trying to climb over the counter into the dining area. This was in plain view of customers and staff. The fact that no other staff member corrected her tells me this behavior is openly accepted. The restaurant was not as clean as it use to be in the past. We just wanted to finish our meals and go. I was pleasantly surprised at the lightly fried tempura tofu on top of the generous helping of veggies. They open at 11. I was here before opening waiting on them to unlock the door. I was the first in line. It took almost 40 minutes to get my food after ordering. How does this make ANY SENSE? One of my go-to lunch options when I've got a few extra minutes. I'm a big fan of the chicken "bowl" with white rice and white sauce. You have two options for rice. They do charge extra for additional sauces, but it is money well spent! So yummy! Portion sizes are large. It does tend to take a while for your order to come out. In their defense, my food is always hot, fresh, and correct. No complaints here! read more

They can't take call ahead orders, unless you give them your credit card info over the phone. You wait 45 mins for the wrong order, and when you call to rectify it, they have attitudes and refuse to let you speak with a manager. Worst service ever!! My family stopped in for a quick bite on a Friday night while in town for a swim meet. We thought we could get some white rice and veggies and chicken. The person at the resister seemed annoyed to have customers, but the place was packed so I thought we'd give it a try. My daughter ordered the hibachi which was the best of a sorry bunch. Everything was very greasy. Overall: Horrible food. Terrible service. Alright, so I've gone back a few more times, and I feel they have improved. I noticed a slight change in staff, and the cashier is much friendlier. They can be quite busy but my food never takes more than 10 minutes to come out. I now have tried the steak bowl cooked medium with steamed rice, and kimchi. Both are pretty delicious and my steak is almost always cooked just the way I prefer. I do recommend it if you want something quick and tasty. read more

This used to be my favorite place to eat when I lived in Goldsboro. I decided to visit them while in town seeing family and I ordered the steak & chicken combo, I maybe 4 pieces of chicken in my meal and they were burnt and all the steak was cooked wrong & I had to spite out half my plate due to it being all fat piece or over cooked and hurt my teeth to even chew. The carrots were also the biggest pieces I have ever seen so they were not easy or good to eat. Customer service here is not exactly the best in town. Like what other reviewers say, the cashiers should be made to understand that happy customers = good business = they keep their job. They probably need a good manager here to train their staff. Moreover, floor is oily/slippery not just near the bathroom area (which is adjacent to their kitchen) but also in the dining area. Good food!! Not too expensive and you get a good sized portion. It can get a little crowded during lunch time, and there is minimal seating. I recommend the steak bowl! It has better quality and quantity of food compared to the new location they just opened on Wayne Memorial. Ninja is an express version of Sumo's. Its pretty decent for the price and the area. If you like the fried rice/chicken/beef from Sumo's you will like this place. I like asking for their white sauce and drenching everything in it. There's not a lot of options in Goldsboro, to be honest. It might be because of this place's cousin restaurant, Sumos, but I like this place. It has a similar taste (most likely because they use the same ingredients and cooking materials at both places) to Sumo's hibachi menu while being a little cheaper. So it is like a fast food hibachi joint if you don't have the time or patience to sit down and watch it get cooked in front of you (ain't nobody got time fo dat). Quality of food I received was also pretty consistent. One of the few places I went to eat at when I lived in Goldsboro and has some nice "fast food" type hibachi meals to select from such as rice, chicken, salmon, etc bowls with either white or fried rice. You can also call in and place your order ahead of time so when you get there your food is ready and waiting to be devoured. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a relatively healthy place to eat at rather than getting a burger or something greasy without spending as much as a restaurant. read more

AC was broken on a 90°+ day and management should have posted a sign so guest would be aware before deciding to dine in. Asked for refund and the self proclaimed "supervisor" had no clue on what to do. Had to end up asking the actual boss or possibly the owner to perform a refund. I called in a carry out order for two families, roughly $65. Went in to pick up and the cashier was both bothered to have customers and uninformed of what the restaurant offers. Got home to find part of the order wrong. Calling the store, I got stonewalled by the young female manager who seemed intent on not helping to solve the problem. 20 min into the call she finally agreed to remake the order at which point I declined because the children were hungry and I had told them to eat the wrong food. I wrote a letter to Jay Chin who owns both Hibachi Express locations, Sumos and the new Jays burger and Sushi bar downtown. It has been over 6 weeks and have yet to receive a response to the problems within his restaurants. I guess it's no surprise that the service was as bad as it is, they are only following the example of their owner. Had I received a response, I would have revisited Sumos and the new opening downtown but I wont spend my hard earned money somewhere if the owner doesn't even care about the service his employees are offering its customers. I do not recommend this place. Food is okay, but I have definitely had better food elsewhere. None of the staff is very friendly or helpful either. The thing that gets me about here is the price. Everything is so expensive! And they charge extra for everything. It cost twenty five cents for a cup of water. And extra sauces cost twenty five cents a piece.
