Needs better service for a place that adds 25% gratuity to the check including beverages

I used to come here once in a while because it is just block away from my house. I have other favorite sushi restaurant but this place is more convenient especially when I want to have a quick and not so expensive sushi. I know that some restaurants has hard time keeping and finding staff, this restaurant might be one of them. Today's sushi was one of the worst I have ever tasted for a really long time. Aloha roll, and samurai roll had not a good balance of flavor, portion of sashimi/rice. It did not taste fresh at all. Very disappointing. However, waitress was friendly. For that reason it is two stars instead of one. I would not be coming back .... at least for a long time. read more

Let me make one clarification. The food is amazing. What I feel is a major growth edge is related to customer service and online order processing. Last week, my wife ordered a meal for our family of six via their online service. I am not a native of the Apple Valley area so I traveled over 25+ minutes, one-way, to pick up my order. When I arrived, after spending a few moments clarifying with the representative that our order was via their online system, I was handed a bag - in hindsight, I should have checked the bag, but I was not provided with a receipt and I should have asked my wife the entire order content. In all, I thought everything was accounted for after I traveled back home. Once back home, my wife informed me that we were missing significant parts of our meal. My wife tried to utilize the online order system she placed her order with but it would not work. After several attempts, we were able to speak to a representative on the phone. After working very hard to make the representative understand that we were missing items, they gave us the option to return to the location (I remind you, this is a 25+ minute drive one-way). It is at this time, my wife drove to the location. Prior to her drive, the representative let her know that she would have the meal prepared prior to her arrival. Unfortunately, when my wife arrived, she had to wait and they STILL did not have all the food prepared. Actually, they informed my wife that the grill was closed and that our missing order items could not be made at this time. At this point, my wife asked if she could get a refund and the representative informed her that she would have to call some number to clear up the bill because they could not give a refund at this location (possibly corporate). The worker did notify my wife she could return another day to get the missing items at no charge. ***Lessons Learned*** It pains me to write this message, and yet I know it is important to share my recent experience. I can remember in the past when I frequented the establishment and was very satisfied with the service and meal. I am not sure if it is under new management or leadership. With all that is been going on, staffing could be a major concern. All I know that I am still $30+ dollars short on a meal. I would ask that Ninja Sushi consider the following: 1. Find a new online ordering system. It is obvious it is difficult for you and your staff to track or interpret orders; therefore, affecting customer service. 2. Buy your establishment an improved call system (i.e., phone). 3. Training. If turnaround/ retention of workers is an issue, I wonder if you can take some time to see what your employees need. 4. Leadership. Who is the leadership in this place? Are they on call to assist employees when though decisions have to be made? Just my thoughts. If you got this far in my review, I appreciate you. I am sure I will give the establishment a second chance in the future, but, in the meantime, I wanted to express my frustration in the poor quality of customer service received. Honestly one of THE BEST sushi places in the neighborhood and the service here is great. I love the happy hour deal here and the variety in the menu as well. Food was good...really good. It's all the accoutrements that ruined the experience. Waitresses were friendly but never came back to check on drink refills ( there were only 3 tables of people eating so not too busy ). Food pricing was fair . My main and number one turnoff was that they were playing Mariachi / Mexican music in the kitchen...that music was twice as loud as the music they were playing for the ambience of the restaurant. EDIT: Our Salmon on top of our roll was Brown and slimy, we let the lady know and she said it looks like that because of the way they catch the fish. I said I've never seen raw salmon look old, brown/gray tint and slimy. She said that that is the way their Salmon looks‍ I told her that we were not going to be eating the rolls and if we could get a refund being that we hadn't even touched them? She said no that they don't do refunds but that they could remake the rolls. (Mind you that we had already waited an hour for the 3 rolls we got) I told her no because we were afraid to eat their sushi if it's not fresh and looks spoiled. She said ok just take pictures of the rolls and talk to the manager tomorrow when he's there and see what he says. So basically I spent almost $50 for food we had to throw away! Absolutely horrible! We could of gotten fresher sushi at a grocery store! Employees made us feel like we were bothering them. Service took forever it took an hour for 3 rolls ordered to go. Ambiance felt unfriendly and not welcoming at all. Will definitely never come to this location. read more

This used to be my favorite sushi restaurant in the High Desert but the new management has completely changed everything I liked about it. They refused to make any cucumber wraps (my favorite) or any customized dishes I asked for. The pricing has gone through the roof and they didn't seem to care about customer service. Sunburst salmon; never fails to taste amazing. So delicious! Japanese food never comes cheap, yet this place has a great balance between fine cuisine and pricing. Great quality food, as expected. The staff is unique, they're more than just friendly, they really know how to cater to your needs and always asking if help is needed. I gave them a 1 because there is no lower ranking. I tried calling in an order, but the line was busy & it was impossible to reach anyone. I went online for a pickup order. I was giving them 2 hours to prepare. When I got there for pickup, no one cared that it was not ready (after 2 hours!!!). The only option they gave was to wait another 45 minutes while they prepare. Small gem. This place is so so soo good. We are not sushi connoisseur but we have been to several different spots up here in the high desert as well as down the hill. None of them have gotten close to how delicious their sushi is. We were happily surprised. I really like their food but seriously their customer service is lacking, changes should be made. We have been coming here every since we moved to the high desert four years ago in the last year the quality of fish has gone down my husband and I just wanted to chop it up to covid. However last week we went and dined in and the quality of the sushi rolls were terrible the rice to fish ratio is terrible. They're serving staff seems lost any other sushi bar I have ever gone to when you're sat down they take your drink order they bring back your plates your soy sauce dish and usually napkins and wasabi and Ginger we had to ask for each and every item. I ordered a pizza roll which I have ordered many times in the past and it came with salmon looked like zucchini and scallops which it was only supposed to have scallops and onions but I asked to remove the onion when I pointed this out the sushi chef argued with me and said that's the way it comes I said please read your menu it doesn't come like that and ask them to remove the dish. Maybe they are Under New Management and they're being greedy with their ingredients but that's how they are going to lose customers. I recall when I search for a sushi place 4 years ago this place was highly recommended with a 5-star rating now it has three and a half Stars something is wrong somewhere. read more

This is my family's go-to Sushi Spot! It's always clean when we go at various times of the week, its a small location but the food is always amazing and consistent! You can't beat the prices! They also have deals on Beers for a Large only $6 and $1 for a second one, small 2 for $4 & they also offer small Sakes for only $.99 cents Hot or Cold. We order our rolls separately but you can also do All You Can Eat for $24 each. Eel sashimi & Peppered Salmon is a must! For a fried not so raw roll go for the Golden Mexican Roll. I was out delivering my friends Christmas gifts (habanero infused tequila) and after a shot or 2 we decided to get sushi. We all ordered large beers and designated one of us to do the All You Can Eat Sushi ordering while we drank our beers. I photographed the first 3 plates and then just settled down to eating and drinking as you do. I ate everything except the one with jalapeno. The service was friendly and quick and we ate our fill. I didn't expect to find the freshest and the best sushi ever in a strip mall in the high desert off Hwy 18 but I found a cool casual joint to grab a beer eat some sushi and hang with friends. read more
