    Ninja course with zip lines

What a great group of coaches! Coach Debbie was so sweet and gentle with the kids. They did guided painting, made slime, smoothies, perler bead creations, not to mention the whole ninja course which is amazing. My son ran off every morning and enjoyed every moment. And he slept like a champ every night!!

we loved the camp my twins and the whole short ave elementary had a blast u are now camp fun!! thank you!!!!

Extremely disappointing experience with communication, management, and programming at the YMCA…read moreCrenshaw location. My experience with the YMCA Crenshaw location has been incredibly frustrating, particularly when it comes to management and communication. In my opinion, **Brittani has been one of the biggest problems at this location.** I originally became involved because my child was attending dance classes, and the classes were repeatedly being cancelled because of staffing issues. Brittani approached me and asked for my help building out a dance program. She explained that I would be compensated at a higher rate because I could not only help develop the dance program, but also bring my professional experience in social media strategy to help promote it. I agreed because I genuinely wanted to help. I have extensive experience in dance, program development, and social media, and I saw an opportunity to create something that would actually benefit the children and families in the community. Instead, I have spent months dealing with a lack of communication and accountability. I interviewed in June, completed the required fingerprinting/background process, taught a class, and was told there was interest in moving forward. After waiting for a response, I began following up repeatedly. At times, I was following up weekly simply trying to get a basic answer about whether the program was happening and when it would begin. That should not be this difficult. If everyone claims to love the kids. I have heard consistent complaints from employees and members about the management at this location. I initially gave Brittani the benefit of the doubt because I believe in giving people an opportunity to prove themselves. Unfortunately, my own experience has now confirmed many of the concerns I had heard. From my perspective, there seems to be a major disconnect between the image of this YMCA and what is actually happening inside the facility. There are community events and plenty of photo opportunities, but where are the consistent programs for the children? Where is the equipment? Where are the classes? Why are basic programs so difficult to get up and running? I have personally witnessed issues with classes being inconsistent, activities being unavailable, and basic things not being organized or available when they should be. When major events happen, such as the Kid Cudi mens circle event, management is front and center ready for photos. But when it comes to actually building sustainable programming for the children and families who use this facility regularly, communication seems to disappear. That raises a legitimate question: **What is management actually doing to develop this facility and serve the community? Because in the 6 Months ive been there, Brittnani has done nothing but run the facility to the ground. I also find it extremely frustrating that I was asked to invest my time, experience, and professional expertise into building a dance program, only to be left without a clear answer or timeline. It all performative nonsense and I truly believe the 1.5 million in funds that Brittani has claimed to raise (Per her very public Linkedin) for this location isn't going to the facility or the community. The YMCA is supposed to be a community resource and a third space for families. The community deserves more than photo opportunities and occasional events. They deserve consistent, accessible programming, properly managed facilities, and leadership that is actually present and responsive. I genuinely wanted to contribute something positive to the Crenshaw community. I invested my time because I believed in what this location could be. Unfortunately, this experience has left me questioning the leadership, the communication, and the overall direction of the facility. Between Brittani and Delayzio I do not know whose hurting the facility and community more. But, both of them combined, is why that location has next to nothing, and they aren't looking for solutions either.

To me it seems like they just opened part of the school up to the public and it feels like awkward and invasive coming lol. I definitely would rename it from Baldwin Hills Rec Center as that implies the whole area uh, knows it exists first of all. Kenneth Hahn is closer to being that than here or even Houston Park or something.

The director, Rachel, encouraged this to happen. She would purposely reword complaints she recieved from staff about other to be more negative, misquote the staff accused and pass it off as fact in order to get away with writing people up. It was a very strange power play and a severe lack of empathy. We were threatened with termination if we talked about other coworkers being fired (3-4 were fired in the 2.5 months I worked there) or if we voiced any issues about the boss. We would get in trouble if we talked to one child for too long, and were generally there only to supervise and not allowed to bond with the kids. A lot of the staff was wonderful, but a lot were very harsh to the kids and would get in their face to yell at them. One in particular expressed a desire to beat a child up. The director would similarly be unfairly harsh on the children, and would often roll her eyes when they would come up to speak to her. Considering the fact that this program is not free, I would HIGHLY encourage families to look for alternatives to look into other after school programs if they could!

This location is at the beautiful Turning Point School in Culver City, adjacent to Surfas, and the metroline. The parking lot is small but the staff were great at directing traffic and getting everyone in and out. They ask you to walk your child for check-in on the first day, and then your child may be dropped off at valet on the subsequent days. Pick-up is always inside and you must show ID (nice safety measure). My daughter made a vacuum and was so excited to share her experiences each afternoon at pick up. She also had an unfinished (?) nightlight in her bag on her last day. We purchased the extended care for the week (because we work full-time regular office hours and planned to have our daughter there from 8-6). The last day (Friday) had a "closing ceremony" at 2:30 PM. I was disappointed because we weren't aware of this at enrollment. It was very difficult to attend and the entire camp literally closed down afterwards. Luckily I got the day off, but otherwise, my daughter would have been "stuck" there until 6 and it really did feel like they were "done". Most of the kids already had a mindset that they were done and packed, and the staff seemed to be ready to say goodbye as well. Meals and snacks are not included - bummer! Choicelunch, a hot food delivery service is available. One other disappointment for me - I decided to change locations (from Culver City to Brentwood) because of the commute and was charged a fee. Culver City was already waitlisted, so in my opinion, I just freed up another spot for them and shouldn't have accrued a charge. The customer service representative told me that it "takes a lot of work" to exchange locations but I just don't understand it. Galileo is new to So Cal and I would expect them to make some exceptions, especially if I'm helping them out (by freeing up a space). It's difficult to say if we'll return to Galileo next year. My daughter enjoyed it but she has enjoyed all the other camps she's attended. She's got an outgoing and fun personality, and she doesn't have difficulty meeting friends and enjoys challenges. There are other camps in LA that are also fun, offer meals and/or snacks and are less expensive.
