Went there today for the first time for lunch with my son and daughter. Everything we ordered had lamb in it because we all love lamb. The service was very good and the food was excellent. At one point 2 years ago they seemed to be improving their menu and seasoning. I love Indian food but I have often not finished the food on my plate. Sauces are all watery and poorly seasoned. Best part is their chapatti bread. Owners nice but need to reassess their menu. Price has gone up the last several years but food quality steadily worsening. Me and my boyfriend love Indian cuisine so we thought we'd give this place a try for lunch one evening. The service was good, but the food... not so much. The buffet was sad, practically empty, and messy. The food seemed as if it was sitting there for awhile as everything was luke warm. Some of the curry wasn't labeled either(the sticky notes labels were falling off of others) so it was a little bit of a mystery what we were getting. We waited around for more naan bread to be set out, but it never was (just another disappointment). The place was almost complete empty at noon so it was quite an awkward experience overall. Best Indian food in Corvallis. I love Indian food, so when I first moved here, I alternated between Nirvana and Evergreen (which is the other Indian restaurant in Corvallis) for awhile. Now I only go to Nirvana. Their food is consistently delicious, the service is consistently amazing, and the atmosphere is really nice too. Their lunch buffet is the best, they always have a great selection of hot entrees, cold salads and sauces and three deserts. It's all you can eat and the price includes a drink. The buffet is always well-split between a nice selection of both vegetarian and meat dishes. And their tandoori chicken is always perfect, yum! Compared to Evergreen's buffet, Nirvana's is far tastier. While Evergreen has a slightly larger selection of hot entrees (maybe 2-3 more), the food is not nearly as good. I'll take quality over quantity any day. Also, I HAVE to mention how great the service is. They're always friendly (but not irritatingly so), prompt with refills, and want their customers to enjoy their meal. Evergreen, on the other hand, has the rudest servers in town. And I didn't just experience this once. I really wanted to like the place so I'd have two Indian restaurants to enjoy, so I went multiple times, and they were consistently rude-- EVERY TIME-- so I quit going. The combination of consistently average food and always horrendous service was just not worth it, especially with Nirvana in town. In short, as far as Indian food in Corvallis goes, Nirvana has the best food and best service, hands down. Skip Evergreen, you aren't missing anything. ***UPDATE: November 2016. The items are delectable, home-cooked delicacies that extend into the "comfort food" category, and their salad selection is really amazing. I've only had Indian food once before, so I was weary to try the strange looking food with strange sounding names. I did wind up trying almost everything. They had the standard green salad and hard boiled eggs for non-adventurous folk, as well as tandoori chicken, slightly sweet with that warm fuzzy feeling Indian spices give me. The more adventurous dishes I had were also quite tasty. The dish labeled as just "Zucchini Vegetarian" was quite spicy and quite good. The potatoes in yellow curry-like sauce was also good. The carrot desert had a strange texture, but was very carroty and good. Basically, if you feel up for an adventure and haven't tried Indian food before, come for the lunch buffet. At worst, you'll fill up on all you can eat green salad and delicious naan. For 7.95, even that's a good deal. Great Chicken Vindaloo. I've been here a number of times and the food is always of excellent quality. The staff is very friendly, and they have a buffet which is good but they never have Chicken Vindaloo on it. Note, if you ask for "Very Spicy" they'll only give you american spicy. If you ask for a 10 on the Indian Spicy scale they will give you a legit 10 spiciness. I love spicy food and my mouth waters to think of it with a 10 spicy on my Chicken Vindaloo. As the second Indian restaurant in Corvallis, Nirvana has given Evergreen some competition. I've eaten at Nirvana a few times since it opened in 2008. It's located on 9th Street, in the building where Cha-Da Thai restaurant used to be. Nirvana has very good food at reasonable prices. I've been meaning to try the $7.95 lunch buffet (which I think is only $4.95 for students to load up a to-go box), but I haven't gotten around to it yet since Nirvana is not particularly close to where I work. I've been pleased with all the dishes I've ordered for dinner though (mainly curries or masalas or chicken vindaloo). They have some interesting naan varieties, but I think I slightly prefer the naan from Evergreen. Also, the mango lassi is great. If you don't know what to order and are looking for a good sampler for dinner, try one of the Nirvana feasts; the $18 chef special thali is a nice variety plate for two to share. Overall, I have no complaints. The service is friendly and the interior of the restaurant is clean with nice decor (including velvet paintings, as another reviewer mentioned). The prices are similar to what Evergreen charges ($8 to $11 per entree). While I don't eat at Nirvana as often as Evergreen, I can say that it is really nice (and perhaps unusual) to have two high-quality Indian restaurants in a fairly small college town like Corvallis. #corvsmb read more

Nirvana is nice, spacious and well lit. The owners seem welcoming and very helpful. Their buffet's hot, has a great selection of different foods, and is quite vegetarian friendly... ... Unfortunately I wasn't exactly a fan. I wanted to be. The butter chicken tasted more like tasteless buttered crab and was oddly shredded. The chicken seemed overdone and dry. The butter sauce was broken and looked to be made with whole butter, not ghee. The saag was on the sour side. The rice was on the soggy. I would say that Nirvana's strength may be in their vegetarian dishes- they have an onion, mushroom and vegetable blend that was very pleasant, though a touch salty. My mother and sister enjoyed the vegetable curry. The naan was very pleasant, especially their garlic naan. Their mint sauce was almost salsa-like, but good with the naan. Nirvana is probably not a place I would rush back to, despite the open atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. In the end, the food was off the mark, at least in the buffet. read more

Nirvana is a great restaurant - considering the issue of scale. Sure, you can find more variety and better food in San Jose, or even Portland. However, this is the Willamette Valley! Lunch at Nirvana is a bargain - just eight dollars for unlimited wholesome grub. Sometimes, offerings aren't to my liking; but sometimes they are. In a town like Corvallis, they cannot prepare my favorite dishes every day. So, Nirvana may not be the best restaurant - but it probably is the best restaurant in the area. Try it. read more

Lunch buffet today for 8.99 - how did I miss that the free fountain drinks include chai and coffee?! yay! Tandoori chicken was perfectly tender and hot, the tofu mattar was excellent and they didn't rush me at all or make me feel bad for eating multiple plates. The family/owners/staff were really nice and smiley, and refilled water goblets like you wouldn't believe. Definitely not fancy at all (no designs or extra decor in the bathrooms for example) but well kept and attentive. I saw some comments about the butter chicken. Lunch buffet today had chicken tikka masala and it proved to be sort of bland, a hint of sweet that I wasn't expecting or hoping for. However the cabbage and mint sauce more than made up for it. Weekends only have dinner buffet, and I may try that sometime, but this lunch deal can't be beat. It is a different restaurant from Evergreen, and I don't want to compare them. read more

I'd have to agree with most other posters, the meat at this place is so-so. The curry and veggie dishes are wonderful though. I stopped by for take-out and also picked up the chicken tikka masala and there were a lot of fatty pieces or extra chewy ones that tasted like there was some cartilage ground in it. Not that appetizing. The rice was also a bit overcooked. However the blend of spices were good. I don't normally like flavored naan, but I tried it here because a yelper said it was good. The onion and garlic on the naan were a bit chunky and over powered the Indian food. Gonna stick with good ol' plain next time and let the Indian spices do all the talking! After going to Evergreen, I think I'll continue going there even though it is a little farther away. Also, the prices here are a bit higher for less food. read more

One of the better buffets in town. I am not a Indian food eater, and I could not tell you if things where spiced correctly or not. When we went to this place for a dinner the staff welcomed us in, and offered us some fresh cooked bread, and head a little conversation with us which was nice. The food was flavorful enough for us to not be overwhelmed, but not be underwhelmed. The selection of buffet was about 20 different items total, with a range in what type of food it was. They had vegetarian, chicken, and goat curry's which where all delicious. I also loved the touch of Indian cultures that they have placed threw out the restaurant, and how they have Indian music playing which is another plus in my book. They only really loose their star from the strange parking lot they have been giving. I hate the fact that it is a giant loop with limited spots. Every thing else about this place makes it worth going to if you want to experience something new, with out breaking the bank. read more

I've been here a few times when passing through Corvallis and I am always pleased; the buffet has a nice selection of vegetarian and meat dishes; you can find the classic choices such as chicken tikka masala and saag paneer and, of course, fresh naan but they often have other not-so-standard options as well. Everything is kept fresh and from what I have experienced they don't water anything down. Since I haven't been getting great Indian food in Eugene for a few months now I was glad to find a place to stop once in awhile on our way out to the coast. read more
