When deciding where to stay for a Mount Rainier trip, I looked at a few different travel sites to see reviews of lodging close by the park. While Nisqually Lodge has some negative feedback, overall, I was comfortable to book it based on more recent traveler experiences and specifically for the cabins. So, when, booking it, I made sure to book a stand alone cabin. The cabin was definitely more recently built and just a few steps away from the main lodge. It had a full kitchen, a small deck, "fireplace", a comfy bed and small living room area. I was only there for two nights and would have gladly stayed longer (and wish I had!) It had enough space for 4 people but it was just two of us. The grounds were cute with Adirondack chairs, lawn games and hammocks. The lobby of the lodge was your basic rustic mountain vibe and the staff I interacted with, were very nice. The only issue we had was the hot water running out when taking back to back showers. Since it was a short stay and just the two of us, I didn't say anything. However if you've got more people with you, make note of potentially needing to take shorter showers. The kitchen had all the cooking utensils, plates, cups and amenities you'd want for making your own meals. While there are a few restaurants nearby, hours are limited. We brought some groceries and enjoyed staying in after days of adventures in the park. And speaking of the park, the lodge is just about 5 miles from the Nisqually entrance. Given how busy Paradise can be in Mt Rainier, I wanted to be parked by 7:30 am at the latest. It was so convenient to leave by 6:30 from our lodging and be through the entry kiosk in 10 minutes (with another 45 minutes or so to drive up to Paradise.) Overall, it was an amazing and memorable stay. Book one of their cabins (but check to be sure which one you're booking) and relax and enjoy your surroundings and proximity to the park. read more

Stayed in the "Cedar Cabin" for two nights while visiting Mt. Rainier. Pros: Cabin was clean, kitchenette was functional, proximity to park was great Cons: Front desk staff was not welcoming, the Cedar Cabin has a not-lovely view of the laundry room with the light on the exterior of the laundry room blasting in the front windows all night, all other cabins have view of trees and some privacy. Asked to move to another cabin and was told that they were all booked, spoiler alert - they weren't. All but one other cabin had folks in it. Shower is teeny teeny tiny. Would choose another option if we were to return. read more

My family of 5 stayed in the Family Suite for a night. We arrived to the lodge to find our room immaculate, the service at the front was excellent, and the homey cabin feel was so welcoming! We found ourselves wishing we were staying there for longer. Definitely recommend this lodging for its wonderful family oriented atmosphereat! read more

We had a unique situation and ended up needing a room last-minute. Called the front desk, and Ashley was super helpful in getting us the reservation that we needed! Our room was very clean and cozy/homey, with a nice bathroom and even a Keurig machine in the corner! Would recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable place to stay in the Ashford area. read more

What a quaint, little lodge. When we arrived, we only had to give our name and immediately received our room keys. The lodge is decorated just as you would expect for a mountain cabin. The room was large and very clean. There was a table & chairs, a big refrigerator, microwave, and large TV. We were glad to see the Keurig, too. My husband wanted Decaf and there wasn't any provided in the room; but they had some at the coffee bar in the lobby. All the amenities you needed for the bathroom were also provided. My only complaint would be to move the "smoking area" to the side of the building instead of at the front door. read more

My husband and I stayed at Nisqually Lodge for two nights in May and were very impressed with the lodge as well as with the front desk host, Ashley, who greeted us like family and was very accommodating to our requests. My sister and her husband joined us on the second night and also raved about the hospitality shown by Ashley. It was only a day before their tourist season began so there weren't many other people there which made it feel like we were at home. We played cards in the lobby by the fire and had a great time at this very nice lodge. The rooms were clean and roomy and it's close to Mount Rainier! I would highly recommend this lodge to others traveling in the area. read more

We arrived a bit early and stopped to see if our room was available yet, and if not, to see if they could store our bags. We were very rudely told no to both--not a big deal if a service isn't available, but not being scolded for asking would have been cool? We were honestly a little wary of returning to check-in, but we had already paid. They weren't any nicer at check-in. There were also signs all over saying no breakfast after October 1st, despite it being advertised as part of the room on the website, in the multiple email confirmations we received, and included in the price. We inquired about a discount regarding the lack of breakfast at check-out (after standing in line behind another guest who was being scolded for bringing up an issue with his room), and were very rudely told we were wrong to think it was included. We had to fight and show proof that it was advertised, and after an unnecessarily rude conversation, we got a 5% discount on the rate. Don't get me wrong, the customer definitely isn't always right. I'm the kind of person who tips 20% after a bad meal. But I really felt like this was an extreme swing in the wrong direction, and for a pricey one-night stay, I found it very frustrating. Great staff | Clean | Comfortable stay $$ We decided to do a quick trip to Mt. Rainier and needed a pet friendly hotel for two nights. This place was perfect! We arrived 30 minutes early and were warmly greeted by a lady that checked us in. The lodge is cute and warm with the fireplace going. They have a wine hour from 5 - 8pm, though I couldn't drink because I'm pregnant. Room 102 - a few steps away from the lobby. Exceptionally CLEAN!!! Bathroom, towels, bedding, floor.... all clean. No scary stray hairs or questionable spots on bedding and towels. For a pet friendly place, they do an excellent job at getting rid of any pet dander. The room has a microwave, mini fridge, tv, and a Keurig. Bathroom has a hair dryer and nice complimentary shampoo/conditioner/soap/lotion set with makeup wipes. Don't leave your pet in the room unattended. Bed was comfy enough for us, although that will vary per person. I liked their pillows because it wasn't too stiff or too soft. Noise level - quiet hours start at 9pm. We were lucky and had good neighbors, but I woke up in the middle of the night at 1am because the people above us came home and decided to take showers. I understand people have different schedules, but if you're staying on the 2nd floor, PLEASE be mindful of your heavy footsteps. I could hear the woman talking to someone and going back and forth from the bathroom to the main room before taking her shower. I didn't sleep well the first night, but the second night was much better (probably because they left). Breakfast bar is good. 7:30 - 10:30 Eggs, sausage, gravy, bananas, muffins, oranges, cereal, waffles. They have some extra stuff in the mini fridge at the end: hardboiled cage free eggs, milk, various juice cups, fruit cup... Food in the area... restaurant in Longmire is open until 7:00, and there's copper creek inn down the road about 5 - 10 min away open until 7:00 also. Only option after that time is at the local "watering hole" in town. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would love to come back. read more

One of the best things about this place is it is very near to the park, the entrance takes about 15 minutes, and paradise inn about an hour from the lodge - sadly the close proximity of the park has led to people here taking things for granted and not making this a quality or convenient place to stay. We stayed at the suite which is a smaller attached building - it is a flat open conference room that they converted 4 bed room. The entrance is clean, but the sheets have bugs which gave me hives - but hey, I could at least drive to the park right next morning. read more

I booked a room here for my 80-year-old aunt to stay at for a recent wedding in Ashford. After the wedding I took her back to her room at 10:10pm. The lobby door was unlocked (despite the sign saying it would be locked nightly at 10pm.) (I left to return to the wedding.) Then, my aunt was unable to access her room due to her card key not working. She was planning to sleep on the couch in the unlocked lobby. Luckily, she was able to contact me, and I went back to pick her up. (I tried her room key and couldn't get it to work.) As the lobby was dark neither of us could see a way to contact anyone. So, I brought her back to my cabin and had her sleep there. (Better than sleeping on a couch in an unlocked lobby.) In the morning when she went back to collect her items in her room, (they had to fix her room key so she could get in) she was told that there was a blue button for after-hours service she could have pressed on the lobby counter. (We couldn't see it in the dark.) And they refused to give her any sort of compensation. I'm really disappointed in their service and attitude. I recommend that their staff point out the "blue button" for after-hours service at check-in for future guests. (Maybe even have it more noticeable with a light so it will show up in the dark lobby???) And that they lock the door at 10pm like the sign says. (That would have been a tip off that the room key wasn't working as it is used to access the locked door.) My aunt did say the breakfast was nice and the room was clean and tidy. My intention isn't to totally rip this place, but to let them know they could improve upon their customer service. I had really hoped it would be an easy, comfortable place for my 80-year-old aunt from the Midwest to stay for the wedding. So sad to have had this experience here. read more

We stayed one night in Nisqually Lodge this week, and we were really quite disappointed. First, the staff were not great about keeping their masks on and made no effort to request that guests wear masks in the public areas. Second, we found out via a hand-scrawled note in the lobby that the included breakfast would not be available "due to COVID-19"; this was not noted in our e-mail confirmation. The problem is that the town of Ashford has no breakfast alternatives on a Monday morning (save the packaged donuts at the general store, recommended by the Nisqually Lodge front desk staff) as the bakery next door is reportedly closed on Mondays and other restaurants in town do not open until later in the day. We ended up back-tracking to Eatonville to find breakfast. (It's worth noting that all the other hotels we visited on our trip did provide their promised breakfast in take-out or socially distanced form.) Finally, the "newly remodeled" claim is a little overblown. Many aspects of the rooms are updated, but the workmanship varies. For example the tile floor in the bathroom is quite excellent, however the patch and paint is pretty shoddy where the light fixture and countertop were replaced. The shower head was not moved up from it's old-school 5' height during the remodel, the carpet isn't new, nor is the 32-inch TV. The room was comfortable and clean, but hardly upscale. Given that the Nisqually Lodge was more expensive on a per night basis than even the excellent Marcus Whitman hotel in Walla Walla (also on our trip, and offering a hot breakfast) I expected more. read more

Because of availability I ended up booking two different lodge during my trip to Mt. Rainier. Pricing for lodges near national park is over priced I think! But between Nisqually Lodge and a lodge nearby, Nisqually is less expensive by $50, with more spacious room, and cleanliness. My experience with front desk was good. I was informed no breakfast was included due to COVID-19. Definitely remember to pack food. Very limited options around the area. read more

Awful dump. The lobby looks fine, but walk upstairs and things quickly change. The carpets look like a murder scene. They say this is due to a cleaning accident, ok but then enter the room and the carpets in there are just stained from pure filth. No excuses. The curtains are a drab brown, the fittings worn and the furniture falling apart. The pillows are cheap and lumpy and uncomfortable. The plumbing makes a loud whining and clanging noise when any of your neighbors turn the tap on. It's so loud it woke me up. Except for cockroaches running around I cannot think of how this room could've been worse and the kicker is they charged almost $200 a night!!! Absolute robbery! This place should be shut down. A remodeled old motel on the main road going into Mt. Rainier Nat. Park. Some good features, such as an effective A/C, small refrigerator and microwave, other features made this a negative experience for us. The first thing you see going into the lobby is a huge, sad moosehead hanging on the wall. Several other sad stuffed animals hang from the ceiling. The room was good size but had no rugs made the floor cold and hard. This was really a problem when the people upstairs started their day around 4 AM. You could hear their every footstep as they rapidly moved around the room. They moved furniture and used the microwave (both very loud). This went on for an hour and then continued off and on for the next few hours. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you have no other options. read more

This place is disgusting. The carpet in the room was stained, the shower curtain was stained a brownish color, there was gunk stuck to the ceiling, the shower head was lower than my head (I'm 5'6"), and the shower drain was clogged. The bathroom sink is clogged. There is no coffee in the morning. Even if there was coffee, the only cream they have is powdered and there's a hair on it. They share one spoon for everyone to stir their coffee. They were supposed to have their crappy breakfast outside our doors by 9am. Charged $125 "extra fee" because they accused us of stealing a comforter. Called the manager to refute the erroneous charge, and they wouldn't listen to anything we had to say. They had no proof and no reliable source. Don't stay there unless you want to get robbed. There are so many other lodging options nearby. read more

This was a delightful spot! Disclaimer: we were there on a Wednesday night in late March, so there were not very many people in the hotel. But the lodge was super clean, and the management very friendly and accommodating. We showed up midweek for a friend's elopement/wedding (held at another location) but the managers readily accommodated our need to store the wedding cake overnight. We thoroughly enjoyed having a glass of wine in the lobby and getting to know Steve, one of the husband and wife managers of the place. They were helpful in answering our questions about the area (such as where we could find champagne for the wedding toast that we'd forgotten to pick up). Our room was clean and as well appointed as any downtown hotel. My only criticism was that the shower head in the bathroom was relatively low (good thing I'm not that tall)--but other than that this we had a terrific stay and would return again without hesitation. The location so close to the mountain is a big plus! read more

Quaint and comfortable lodge near the Mt Rainier park. Easy, quick check- in. We missed the complimentary 2 glasses of wine from 5:30-8:30pm since we checked in right at 8:30. Good to know if we stay here again in the future. :) The manager on duty pointed us to the Highlander down to road for dinner and also gave us a welcome bag of bottled water. Our room was on the 2nd level, clean, and well-stocked of shampoo, conditioner, soap, and towels for 4 people. read more

My husband and I decided on a last-minute getaway, and booked our stay here the day before arriving. The price was reasonable and the location is great (just a few miles away from the park entrance), so we were worried there would be a catch - but there wasn't! The entrance lobby is warm and comfortable, with several people wandering around and sitting in front of the fireplace when we arrived. The lodge staff were friendly and overwhelmingly helpful. Our room was on the first floor - a queen-sized bed room. It was also clean and comfortable. I was pleased to see a few modern finishes within the lodge environment. The t.v. was a little small, but on the plus side, there was a microwave in the room. Breakfast was provided until 10 am. We enjoyed scrambled eggs, sausage and gravy, biscuits, yogurt, waffles (from a DIY waffle maker), muffins, and bagels. Great spread. The lodge is a great deal, and I would recommend this place to others for a reasonably priced, fairly spacious, breakfast-providing, well-located stay with accommodating staff. read more

An ok place to stay close to the park's nisqually entrance. The room and the bathroom are slightly dated and had a musty odor when you enter but we got used to it. Be aware that during COVID without breakfast here you will not have any convenient option to get breakfast nearby. Ashford and Elbe are both quite limited in terms of facilities, and the one or two breakfast spots get busy. We ended up driving so far in the morning that we just canceled our day at the park and headed home. I'd recommend coming with breakfast and using the refrigerator in the room. read more

Hubby and I brought our 7 month old here for a spur of the moment mini vacation up to Mount Rainier. This place had reasonable prices online and it was well worth every penny! We didn't pre-book but were still able to get an amazing room! The room was clean and well stocked. And the breakfast was delicious too! The hotel manager (Jeanice?) was the nicest lady. Super hospitable and absolutely does her best to make your stay great. The hotel is very basic - but for a rustic area with campgrounds and cabins, it is great. They allow dogs, which is a bonus as Mt Rainier National Park does not allow dogs on trails or in their hotels. This is not a Four Seasons or a hotel conglomerate. It is a small business. read more

The people running the hotel were nice. But the bed was hard as a rock. The ceiling had leak stain and damage. The water was hot which was nice. The wine and breakfast was ok. But overall I felt like the place was too expensive for what you get. The rooms were very old and needed remodeling. read more

This was my second time staying at the Nisqually Lodge. We were hesitant to stay again but in the two years since we visited the first time they have invested a great deal into making it a beautiful and comfortable lodge. I highly recommend staying there. The main thing I require in a hotel is good uninterrupted sleep - that's what I pay for - so I was disappointed the front desk gave my room to a late night arrival so I was awoken by a stranger trying to enter my room (Do not disturb was on the outside door handle). This was around midnight when I was in deep sleep. I spent some adrenaline (my young son was sleeping in the other bed) getting in defense mode. Next, I get a knock on my door from a lodge employee asking me who I AM? Turns out they messed up the room reservations. Unable to sleep for 2 hours after, and more than annoyed that I had to announce who I was in the middle of the night, I had a *terrible* nights sleep. The next morning when I calmly brought this to their attention I got a cavalier apology and no concessions or considerations to make it right. The day of hiking we had planned on Mt. Rainier was shortened because I was tired and less energized from the events of the night before. Awful experience, I won't be back. read more

Beautiful location--room and bath were spotless. Continental breakfast was limited, but okay nonetheless (pastries, coffee, etc). Only setback: the owners are not very friendly at all. As in, we were afraid to ask them anything. They would mostly ignore us if they saw us in the lobby. Guess they don't have to be friendly seeing that places to stay are limited in that area. Overall, the place was clean and quiet--perfect for a one night stay. There is NO hot tub here. Do not believe the pamphlet. They'll look at you like your head is square if you ask about it. read more

Highly recommend a stay in this wonderful "mountain lodge". The owners live in lodge and are amazing hosts...almost like you are at a B&B. Happy hour wine served nightly, hit breakfast in the morning and a blazing fire to relax in front of in the lobby. Always enjoy supporting a local business owner, especially one who truly cares about you enjoying all aspects of your stay. Ask about the "big room", it has 4 queen beds and access out to a lawn the size of a football field. read more

I really liked this lodge! We stayed here for one night in July 2016 as we were heading to Mt. Rainier. It was definitely a lodge-y feel...the wood, decor, and sights make you feel right in the wilderness (my favorite was the giant wood-carved squirrel in the main lodge area!). Our room was a generous size and the sink/bar area outside the bathroom made meal prep a lot easier. The continental breakfast in the AM was much appreciated and was substantial enough for two vegetarians/vegans to get a good start to the day. The staff was pleasant and I would overall recommend this lodge to anyone! read more
