    Chalupa Plate
    Bill S.

Tasty food but too expensive. I had a stomachache all day afterwards. We ordered a chalupa plate, birria plate and side of rice and beans. The food was delicious. The interior of the restaurant is stark so there's not much for atmosphere. There was kind of a musty smell in the air. The person that took our order was efficient but not friendly. The bill came to $41 including tip. The food was tasty but in my opinion overpriced. Maybe if the interior was decorated really nicely I could see that price being more fitting. Something about the food did not sit well with me and I was in pain the rest of the day.

I was looking forward to trying this spot and I would say I was left wanting more, but maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I got the fajita burrito, and I definitely think I was allergic to something in it so I would ask about allergens next time since they are not clearly listed. But even besides that, it didn't feel fresh and lacked seasoning. My partner tried the birria plate and had a great experience with it though so I would recommend maybe trying that but personally may not be back!

This is a must go!!! I'm always so impressed by this place - it was so nice to see them expand into a brick & mortar when I was living here and it remains a staple in the community - I come here every time I'm back in town! If you're looking for vegan Mexican food, you've come to the right spot - my go to is the taco plate, but I've never been disappointed when I go. The service is super quick & there are plenty of seating options inside.

Very delicious vegan mexican food here in Austin Texas. The Gluten free chick'n flautas were amazingly delicious. The birria ramen had spaghetti noodles and didn't really stand out compared to others we've tried. But the best thing I had were those churro chips that had that ice cream!!! You gotta try it. Best dessert in town! The customer service was great! Looking forward to trying other things on the menu. Still a must try spot!

Nissi never disappoints!!!! Tried the ramen most recently, and while not my favorite thing I've tried, still solid!

My first time trying a vegan restaurant with some friends in town who are vegan (I am not) and this recommendation did not disappoint! A casual Tex Mex eatery with all vegan plates - from tacos to flautas and more. Overall it was tasty and I honestly would not even be able to tell a difference in some of the "meats". Plates are around $13-$16 and there are options for sides and chips and queso/guac. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, a shared shopping lot with ample parking. - Reservations? No, this place is casual and fast. Order at the counter, pay, and seat yourself. - Takeout? Yes, you can order to-go. FOOD RATINGS: - Flauta plate (4/5): This was my favorite. The "chicken" is good and the avocado crema and sauces are delicious. Perfectly crispy without being oily! Beans and rice are just okay. Not very flavorful. - Birria plate (3.5/5): Pretty decent tacos. Flavor was good but just left something missing for me. - Taco plate (4/5): Solid taco plate. You can choose your proteins. The salsas and sauces are so good!

This is the best spot if you're looking for hearty vegan Mexican food where you have a variety of options. I got this via delivery and my food arrived hot and mess free. I got the taco plate with 3 carna asada tacoes with rice and beans, was delicious! Very filling and I rotated between differences sauces. Was extremely filling and satisfying.

I came here with my sister thinking we'd have a spectacular Tex Mex vegan experience in Austin, but the food that was delivered to us were sub-par. My sister had heard excellent reviews regarding the nachos, apparently they offer a variety of "meats" in different styles and it's a simple add to a huge plate of nachos. I ordered the "carne asada" nachos and my sister ordered a different type of "meat" for her nachos, but when our plates came out, it looked as though there was no difference... The serving was HUGE though, and I wasn't able to finish. At the same time, I wasn't enthused in attempting to finish it anyways. I'd like to give these guys another chance, but it might be when my appetite is raging and I don't care what they end up giving me....

I was feeling down today and much like other yelpers, good food always makes me feel a little better. It was slow at work so I knew I wanted to find someplace that I hadn't tried before and had good veggie options. Lo and behold, how have I never been to this location? Especially considering how close it is to my workplace. My first impression was that the furniture and ambiance looked really cute. You could definitely have a group of people come to the restaurant for a celebration and they would have enough room. The service was also nice. And of course the food was Super fresh and tasty. I got the chalupa plate, it was crunchy and delicious! The orange salsa was too spicy for my taste but the green salsa hit just right. One tip, if you are taking your food to go and have a far distance to travel I would not get the Chalupa because it may be soggy. Thankfully my clinic is not far from the restaurant so mine was awesome. I will definitely come back and try a few other things at this place since everything here is vegetarian and I think also Vegan. Also, for my celiac friends they do have a bunch of GF options so that's cool too!

I am not vegan but I went with friends and really enjoyed my meal! The tacos were great and the nachos were super sweet.

Food portions were large and visually appealing but did not hit the mark of replicating meaty flavors. Definitely has various spice undertones but the flavors werent as strong as it was visually expected

For a city with no shortage of exceptional Mexican and Tex-Mex fare, it's a struggle to name one single greatest example of the art. However, it's not hard to make a concise recommendation that covers all cravings. Nissi VegMex is the first place newcomers should visit, regularly winning praise from eaters from near and far. Authentic, bold flavors crafted from scratch with traditional methods are applied to plant-based proteins, so nothing is lost in translation. Every entree is a knock-out so even if you come late and discover, for instance, that the very popular birria tacos are sold out, a second, third, or even fourth choice still won't disappoint. True, it's hard to match the Mexican version of au jus, pairing crispy tacos with sweet, sour, slightly spicy, and deeply savory stew for dipping, but you'll forget all about it with one bite of any dish. The "cheek'n" flautas were my first order and remain a nostalgic favorite. Served with well-seasoned rice and beans plus a refreshing little side salad, these crispy rolled tortillas come smothered with an artful drizzle of crema and avocado sauce. It really is a perfect meal, satisfying without over-stuffing, checking all the boxes for varied textures and tastes. Even my dad, a lifelong omnivore, declared that if all vegan food was like this, he could easily ditch meat for good. Real food made from scratch isn't ready in an instant, so grab a drink from the bar or enjoy an icy glass of hempchata (that's hemp-based horchata) and enjoy the scene. Where should you go if you want genuine Mexican food? What if you're on a budget? How about vegan, or gluten-free option, too? Want a taste of true Austin in just one night? Nissi, Nissi, Nissi, and Nissi. If anyone says different, they must not be from around here.

We got one Austin roll ($22), volcano roll ($15), creamy spicy tan tan ramen ($20), teriyaki sesame tofu yakisoba ($20). I have had their sushi and yakisoba but tried their ramen for first time. I was impressed with their packaging. As you can see in picture, veggies and noodles box was on top and soup at bottom. The only thing I didn't like how noodles became very sticky because of how tight they were packed. So I got it as cold (because I live 30 mins away) and sticky. Ramen came with all the veggies like grilled Chinese broccoli, tofu, sweet corn, marinated shiitake mushrooms, red onions and negi. Yakisoba noodles had the Stir-fried noodles tossed with cabbage, scallion, carrot, marinated shiitake mushrooms, and fragrant negi in a savory house sauce. It was good if you like this type of noodles. Austin roll had Smoked tempeh, tempura tofu, jalapeño, pickles. And on the to Avocado, roasted garlic oil, tempura flakes, smoked paprika, teriyaki. Volcano roll was a deep fried roll which had spinach, avocado, sweet potato. On top: spicy mayo, sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, Caviart and tempura onion. I would say this is the best vegetarian sushi place I've found in Austin. So if you're in search, this wouldn't disappoint you.

They recommend consuming the cheeses within 7 days of opening. It's just my husband and me in the household, so finishing a whole package of cheese in a week's time could be daunting. Speaking of the brie, it wasn't my favorite of the selection I received, which was a curated collection of Lorie's from Shark Tank. When we first got the delivery Dear Hubby and I set up a charcuterie tray for ourselves as a late lunch / early dinner. So many wonderful tastes! We opened four of the cheeses to sample them and left two for later. It's been wonderful for me to have better vegan cheeses than what the local grocery stores tend to stock. Real flavor! The food was fresh, unique, so flavorful and very filling. Presentation of each course was stunning as well. Completely worth the $75 pre fixe price. The restaurant is very small with maybe 10 tables per seating and only two seatings per evening. Plan ahead to visit this gem as they book out months in advance. I've already booked my next reservation for April :)

Fry Let me tell you…read moreabout FTG. The little food truck in the back of a sweet-ass dive bar called Mama Dearest. Do you wanna know about the dive bar? You'll have to check out my other review. But just know it's filled with weird taxidermy and novelty items that are one of a kind. But I digress. Back to the food. I would like to tell you I tried everything on the menu as many times as I came here. But alas, only four or five things. Unfortunately, their pierogies are the best thing I've ever had. Not just in Austin, but ever. I am now desperately seeking pierogies that rival FTG's. It's not just the pierogies themselves... but the sauce, it would make angels sing. Every time I tried something new, my heart would long for the pierogies. I finally gave in to my desires and quit trying other new things. I think next time I go back I'm just going to ask strangers if I can have a bite of their food, so I can say I've tried everything. But until then, this review is for what I have tried. After the pierogies. My next favorite things in order. Fried chicken (perfectly crisp bites), jerk chicken (little spicy, not dry, perfect), chilli (so spicy), gnocchi. The cheesecake would technically rank after the pierogies, but because they're a dessert I don't wanna mess up the order here and confuse y'all. The two dudes that work this truck, are here EVERY time. I'm pretty sure the only days they take off is Mondays and Tuesdays. Tell them the girl from Kansas City with a big dog sent to you. Lastly. Know that you won't find this place overrun with college kids or snotty hipsters. Just regular people enjoying a good dive bar.

Rating: 2.7/5 [Postmates delivery]…read more We were so excited to try FTG's food, especially given its high Yelp rating. Unfortunately, it ended up being extremely disappointing. The meats were unforgivably dry, though everything else was good. Steak & Zab ($22): The zab, a mix of green beans, mushrooms, and broccoli tossed in salsa macha with sabayon, was actually enjoyable. I liked the flavors, but it was a bit too creamy/saucy for my husband (likely due to the sabayon). The steak, however, was dry and very chewy. Asian Style Spare Ribs ($17): This came with a 1/3 rack of spare ribs, a Thai cabbage salad, and five-spice fried potatoes. The potatoes were fire, and the salad was solid. But again, the meat missed the mark--super dry for the most part. We tried dipping it in the sabayon and other sauces to add moisture, but it didn't help. The fish sauce glaze didn't come through either. The only redeeming quality was the generous portion size.
