I was really excited to find this place close to where I'm staying! This is the kind of vegan restaurant non-vegans wouldn't mind going to at all. I got the carne asada nachos, and they were excellent. I thought they were a bit pricy at first, but then I got my food. It can easily feed two people!! I think I ate more than I should've, but I couldn't stop myself. If you get these, I'd recommend no or light lettuce because there is A LOT on top. I'd also maybe not get the beans next time. I was looking forward to trying this spot and I would say I was left wanting more, but maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I got the fajita burrito, and I definitely think I was allergic to something in it so I would ask about allergens next time since they are not clearly listed. You can tell that the folks running this place and making the food are paying homage to Mexico - not only is the food great vegan food, but it's all SO flavorful and complex. There are so many foods that I never heard of or had before going vegetarian 35 years ago, and then vegan about 15 years ago... but at Nissi, I can try all KINDS of things that I couldn't eat the traditional version of. Always bad service. This time I called ahead - first time instead of just dining in - and was told they don't accept orders over the phone. I just wanted life to be easy and I'm not going to use a third party service like Uber Eats or door dash to order as they suggested. Yelp lists their # as an option to place an order. Maybe they should take phone orders until they get that removed if they really can't be bothered. I would've pre paid. He didn't ask me if I would. He just cut me off to say that and now I'm back to square one, hungry with a migraine and frustrated. My sister had heard excellent reviews regarding the nachos, apparently they offer a variety of "meats" in different styles and it's a simple add to a huge plate of nachos. I was feeling down today and much like other yelpers, good food always makes me feel a little better. It was slow at work so I knew I wanted to find someplace that I hadn't tried before and had good veggie options. Lo and behold, how have I never been to this location? Especially considering how close it is to my workplace. My first impression was that the furniture and ambiance looked really cute. You could definitely have a group of people come to the restaurant for a celebration and they would have enough room. The service was also nice. And of course the food was Super fresh and tasty. I got the chalupa plate, it was crunchy and delicious! The orange salsa was too spicy for my taste but the green salsa hit just right. One tip, if you are taking your food to go and have a far distance to travel I would not get the Chalupa because it may be soggy. Thankfully my clinic is not far from the restaurant so mine was awesome. I will definitely come back and try a few other things at this place since everything here is vegetarian and I think also Vegan. We have heard a lot about Nissi's and excited this location opened . Let me start by saying our options were limited here as we don't eat soy. I wish we could give half stars because it was more like a 3.5 IMO. We came in late which is why it was a little empty. We ordered the tostadas and the "Birria" ramen with no protein (as all proteins here contain soy-bummer). The tostadas only contain an avocado spread onion and cilantro however it was really good once the salsas were added on. We also dipped it in the "birria" sauce which gave it a nice flavor. The salsas were all great I put all 3 on different sections of the tostada so I could try them. The habanero one was pretty good on the tostada it was spicy, but not too spicy! The Birria ramen was pretty basic, tasted like fideo with thin spaghetti noodle. I love fideo but was looking for something different here. We may try and go back and order some tacos with beans or something or even the tostadas again! Hoping one day they offer mushroom or chickpea fillings vs. the in house soy proteins. The inside of the restaurant wasn't the greatest but I did like the tables and the plants on the tables. The menu was either the one pictured here or they had a digital one that changed slides. Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. When we arrived they weren't too busy and never got too hectic, so I wouldn't worry too much about running into a long line. When I saw this spot made vegan versions of street tacos I was pretty skeptical, but I'm happy to say they entirely proved me wrong. In terms of enjoyment of my meal I'd put Nissi up there as one of the better street taco experiences I've had in Austin. Their Birria tacos in particular were absolutely fantastic. Usually I don't go for faux meats that try to replicate the taste of actual meat, but I swear if I didn't know this was vegan when ordering I'd have been fooled. It had that fantastic rich flavor and there was no noticable difference in texture. The corn tortillas held up nicely, and the consume added just the right amount of heartiness to the tacos. At $15 for 3 tacos they're a little pricey, but not totally out of line with what I'd expect for a sizable tacos in this part of town. We also shared a taco plate, which comes with 4 (smaller) tacos with your choice of protein along with rice and beans. We went for the Carne Asada and Cheek'n tacos. While these were far less convincing imitations of meat, they clearly weren't trying to replicate the flavor. The adobo flavor on the cheek'n was really good and definitely the one I enjoyed more. The Carne Asada had a really good texture, but the oak wood flavor didn't really do it for me as much. Their salsas are all fantastic and more than compensated for the lesser flavor on those. I can't recommend giving this spot a try enough, whether or not You usually go for vegan options its quality stands up to comparable non vegan spots in the area read more

When I first tried Niss, I tried a dish made with jackfruit andi my thoughts were- "meh." Since then I have tried othe things they make such as soy and seitan based proteins and I am slowly falling for their food. The proteins are delicious, flavor packed. As a life-long vegetarian, I am always skeptical of plant based meat substitutes, but Nissi Vegmex has done a really good job of making their dishes just as appealing to both vegans and non-vegans. The birria tacos are definitely a memorable reason to visit -- crispy tortillas stuffed with juicy and delicious vegan meat and cheese topped with cilantro, lime, and onions to taste. The consommé is mouthwateringly good albeit a tiny bit on the salty side. The meal is very filling and well worth the price point.
